Governor Tambuwal Picks Up PDP Presidential Nomination Form

Featured Image
Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal on Thursday picked the presidential nomination form of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 elections.

Tambuwal is one of the Governors who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP. The Governor as well as his supporters arrived at the PDP headquarters at Wadata Plaza in Abuja on Thursday evening.

This is coming weeks after he declared that he had been under tremendous pressure, to join the 2019 presidential race. Speaking with reporters after picking the form, Tambuwal was asked about going head to head against President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

“I believe you need to check my political antecedents. I have always been confronted with this kind of hostile environment. You remember how I emerged as Speaker of House of Representatives and how I remained there as Speaker of House of Representatives.”

“So I am not discouraged by whatever that may come up as a challenge from the administration,” he replied.

Ahead of the 2019 Presidential elections, the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu as well as 15 other presidential aspirants have endorsed Fela Durotoye as their consensus presidential candidate.

Fela Durotoye emerged as candidate through a consensus arrangement of a coalition tagged, “Presidential Aspirants Coming Together” (PACT). Durotoye is a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), while Moghalu is of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

The aspirants said they met in July and August to discuss a viable strategy and consensus-building to win the 2019 presidential elections.

In a statement signed by Durotoye, he expressed gratitude for his emergence as the winner.

His statement read,

“It is with profound gratitude and great humility that I accept your nomination as the Consensus Candidate of the Presidential Aspirants Coming Together (PACT).

“I would like to honor all the members of PACT, 18 leaders, all uniquely qualified and able to represent 190 million Nigerians at the highest office in our nation; who displayed great humility; understanding that none of us can win as individuals, but by coming together as a team, we bring our unique abilities and diverse strengths to the table; but most importantly, being honorable to put the country first and themselves last. You are true nation builders and our nation owes you a great debt of gratitude.

“Today, I would like to extend a hand to those who have left our coalition and welcome those of similar ideologies who are yet to join us, we are stronger together.

“I take this nomination as a Consensus Candidate with great sense of responsibility; knowing that I and our generation have been entrusted with a mandate to show Nigerians the kind of leadership they truly desire and deserve and to inspire the hope of a better future; a New Nigeria.

“The 2019 elections will be a referendum between our past and our future; between the same old change and a New hope, the old and the young, politics and good governance, joblessness and jobs, politicians and nation builders and between experience and expertise.

“We don’t expect it to be easy. We will be held to higher standards than the establishment, our methods and conduct scrutinized more closely to determine if we are the same old wine, repackaged in new wine skins.

“We assure you that we are nothing like what our nation has experienced over the last 58 years, but we will earn your trust, and eventually, your votes.

“I am not arrogant to claim that i have all the answers, but I am humble enough to say that I will listen to all your questions.

“And with such a great team beside me, the hopes and dreams of Nigerians before me & by the Grace of God above me, we will deliver a New Nigeria, starting on May 29th, 2019.

Aspirants who make up PACT include Kingsley Moghalu, Yele Sowore, Dr Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, Ahmed Buhari, Tope Fasua, and Sina Fagbenro-Byron. Others include Eragbe Anslem, Jaye Gaskia, Mathias Tsado, Victor Ani-Laju, Alistair Soyode, Godstime Sidney Iroabuchi, Clement Jimbo, and Elishama Ideh.

Lagos State Government Unveils Ultra-Modern Ferry Terminal

Featured Image

In a bid to boost the potentials of the water transport sector, the Lagos State Government has inaugurated an ultra-modern ferry terminal and the headquarters of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) in Ikoyi.

The State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Adeniji Kazeem who was in attendance as a representative of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode said the development was part of efforts to harness the potentials of the water transport sector for the overall benefit of residents.

According to him, despite its potentials, the sector has remained largely underdeveloped and accounting for less than one per cent of the overall traffic in the state, a development he said necessitated the massive investments and reforms of his administration in the sector.

“In furtherance of our commitment to develop the water transportation system which is an integral component of the Lagos State Multi-Modal Transport System, we have invested significantly in the provision of water transportation infrastructure especially the rehabilitation of existing and construction of new jetties; purchase of two clearing machines with navigational equipment to tackle the challenges posed by water hyacinth and the ongoing installation of safety signs for routes demarcation, among others.

“In addition, we have concluded plans for the procurement of seven high-capacity passenger ferries to complement the existing ones, while we also plan to assist commercial ferry operators to acquire new standard boats.

“All of these are with the intent of encouraging more private sector investment in water transportation. The long-term objective is to reduce the pressure on our roads as our people increasingly embrace water transportation system,”  He said.

A multi-level car park was also commissioned within the same premises.

Bye Fiona! Emmy Rossum Is Leaving Shameless After 9 Seasons

Featured Image

Well, one thing we can’t blame Frank Gallagher for sadly. Shameless star, Emmy Rossum who plays the role of Fiona Gallagher in the hit show has announced that she would be leaving the show for good after its ninth season.

The 31-year-old announced her departure in a via Facebook, writing,

“It’s hard thing to put into words, feelings. But I’m going to try. This business is always an adventure, full of travel and opportunities to tell stories. Usually as an actor, every few months, you travel to a new place, start a new project, build a new character, learn new rhythms, new inside jokes with your crew, make new friends.”

“Until ‘Shameless’ came into my life 8 years ago, I led that kind of transient wonderful life of an actor. And I never realized how much I actually craved the kind of continuity that this show has given me. And given all of us in the crew. Season after season I’m amazed that our same crew comes back. And it’s not just because it’s a wonderfully written, wonderfully layered show. There are these real connections, real friendships that bring us back season after season after season,” she added. “See, in real life, unlike Fiona, I’m an only child. I never had a big family. Being ensconced in that messy Gallagher family love is something I’d always dreamed of. But even off set, it feels real. We’ve watched the kids grow up into the strong, talented, independent human beings that they are.”

Shameless

She also praised her character: “The opportunity to play Fiona has been a gift. There are few characters — female or otherwise — as layered and dynamic. She is a mother lion, fierce, flawed and sexually liberated. She is injured, vulnerable, but will never give up. She is living in an economic depression, but refuses to be depressed. She is resourceful. She is loyal. She is brave. I knew it the second I read the pilot script, this was different, this was special.”

“I know you will continue on without me, for now,” she concluded. “There is much more Gallagher story to be told. I will always be rooting for my family. Try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block.”

Shameless Season 9 premieres on September 9.

Genevieve Nnaji’s directorial debut, LIONHEART, has been announced as an official selection in the Discovery Section of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), September 6-16, 2018.

Set in Southeast Nigeria, LIONHEART tells the story of a young woman, Adaeze Obiagu (Genevieve Nnaji), who becomes saddled with the responsibility of running her sick father’s business under the suffocating supervision of an intensely crude and eccentric uncle.  Her competing business instincts and family obligations become a catalyst for drastic change not everyone is ready to embrace.

2019: Saraki Officially Declares For Presidency

The Senate President Bukola Saraki has officially declared to run for the office of the president of Nigeria under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Saraki made this declaration on Thursday at Sheraton hotel where he met with young aspirants of the PDP.

What Jonathan Told Saraki About The National Assembly

In the 12th point in his speech, he said:

“It is with all these in mind, and taking account of the challenges that I have outlined, that I have decided to answer the call of teeming youth who have asked me to run for President. Accordingly, I hereby announce my intention to run for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the coming General Elections in 2019 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). I do so with the firm conviction that I have what it takes to secure inclusive growth for Nigeria and Nigerians.”

See full speech below as published by Channels:

SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY (DR.) ABUBAKAR  BUKOLA SARAKI, CON, PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, AT A DIALOGUE WITH YOUTH AND YOUNG ASPIRANTS HELD AT SHERATON HOTEL, ABUJA, ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 30, 2018.

PROTOCOL.

1. Let me say, once again, how wonderful it is to see so many talented and purposeful young people at this first edition of the Public Dialogue Series with Political Parties on Youth Candidacy and Party Primaries. Looking at you, I see future leaders who present themselves as capable and worthy to take on the mantle of leadership in this country, and this gladdens my heart.

2. From my interactions with many of you, and with your contemporaries across the country, I can see that we are blessed with a determined generation that stands ready to join with us to power a Nigerian renaissance. The quality of people I see here today affirms my belief that, indeed, you are Not Too Young To Run.

3. I deeply appreciate this opportunity to share some of my ideas about where we are as a nation, as well as the challenges before us as we approach the great decider that is the 2019 General Elections.

4. It is widely acknowledged that ours is a relatively ‘young’ country bursting with tremendous energy, ability and potential. More than 70 per cent of our population is under the age of 40.  You are indeed the future of this country. Ordinarily, such a young population would be the envy of many Western countries that are faced with ageing populations, but the dire state of our affairs tarnishes the youthful advantage that we have.

5. Up and down our country today, Nigerians are crying out for succour. Many of our children are hungry. Many people are dying of avoidable or otherwise treatable diseases. Many have fallen below basic living standards, and are now among the 87 million that sealed Nigeria’s position as the country with the highest number of people in extreme poverty. Our young people lack opportunities. The necessary education facilities and system to equip them for the future simply do not exist. We are not creating the jobs needed to usefully engage them in order to grow our economy. And too often, the youth feel shut out, prevented from having any say in the direction of this nation.

6. The harsh conditions of extreme poverty faced by the people, fuels the state of insecurity all over the country. Hunger, lack of education and lack of opportunities push many Nigerians into criminal activities including terrorism. Many of our communities are paralysed with fear – due to incessant communal crises, kidnappings and other social ills, as well as the threat of terrorism. We are failing abysmally to tackle the problems of today and to prepare for the future.

7. Our economy is broken and is in need of urgent revival in order for Nigeria to grow. GDP growth rate has declined. Diversification remains an illusion. Unemployment is at an all-time high. Businesses are shutting down. Jobs are being lost in record numbers, and the capital needed to jumpstart our economy is going elsewhere.

8. Nigeria is perhaps more divided now than ever before. We are increasingly divided along regional, religious and ethnic lines. Nigerians are also divided by class, a festering gulf between the ‘Haves’ and the ‘Have-Nots’. The fault lines of this nation are widening to an alarming degree. We must do something fast, and we must be brave about it.

9. We must ensure the security of lives in Nigeria. As things stand now, no one is safe in this country. No one feels truly safe. We must restore the sanctity of the rule of law and strengthen democratic institutions in order to build a just, fair and equitable society for all. We must rebuild the trust of our people in government. We need a new generation of leaders that are competent, with the capability to rise to the challenges of the 21st century. We must pull this country back together and rebuild, block by block, with dedication and commitment.

10. You will agree with me that this is an urgent task that requires the concerted efforts of each and every one of us. If we look around today, what do we see? What is the condition of our citizens? Where are we as a nation? How are we perceived locally and internationally? Why are we not making the expected progress? Why are we not growing? There is no time to waste. The time is now, to come together to stimulate growth in Nigeria, especially in the national economy.

11. The choice we face in the forthcoming election is either to keep things as they are, or make a radical departure from the old ways. To find a better way of doing things or keep repeating the mistakes of the past. To fix the problems or keep compounding them.

12. It is with all these in mind, and taking account of the challenges that I have outlined, that I have decided to answer the call of teeming youth who have asked me to run for President. Accordingly, I hereby announce my intention to run for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the coming General Elections in 2019 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). I do so with the firm conviction that I have what it takes to secure inclusive growth for Nigeria and Nigerians.

13. My Plan for Nigeria has inclusion in all aspects of the country’s affairs as a central pillar. Every citizen has the inalienable right to feel a sense of belonging, no matter their background or creed, or what part of the country they come from. No matter who you voted for or what your convictions are, government must work for you.

14. Your generation does not deserve to live in the poverty capital of the world. It is no longer an issue of how we got here, but how do we get out of this situation? I promise you that I will lead the fight and employ every God-given resource available to us in turning things around. I am determined to grow Nigeria out of poverty. We will stimulate the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as one of the ways of energising the economy and to create wealth for our people, especially the youth.

15. I want to see the youth play major roles at all levels, not only in government but also in the private sector and indeed in every area of Nigerian life. This will be a government driven by youthful energy, innovation and a pioneering entrepreneurial spirit. Nigerian youth will be given all the opportunities to realise their potential to the full within a national framework that guarantees inclusiveness.  For youth who have ideas and capacity, we will make sure that there is funding for their ventures; and we shall build on the Made in Nigeria legislation as part of our job creation drive.

16. My plan is to secure Nigeria by redesigning our national security architecture, while adequately equipping our security agencies to fulfil their primary role of protecting lives and property.

17. I will address our infrastructural deficit through aggressive financing initiatives including mutually beneficial PPP arrangements, regular floating of bonds and other financial instruments, which will ensure stable, adequate and reliable funding to see to the completion of core projects especially road, rail and power.

18. My plan is to protect all Nigerians and defend their constitutional rights and freedoms. I will stand for and uphold at all times the principle of the rule of law, which is the bedrock of democratic governance.

19. Ours will not be a selective fight against corruption. The emphasis will be on strengthening institutions, with a particular focus on deterrence. We cannot afford to compromise our institutions with proxy wars against perceived political opponents. We see the fight against corruption as crucial to Nigeria’s economic development.

20. I offer leadership driven by empathy. Where leaders are responsive to the citizens. Where they know that government cares. We will not be indifferent or turn a blind eye to the real concerns of our people. Every single Nigerian life matters.

21. For me, the leadership we deserve is one that will be a source of pride to all Nigerians, one that will be respected and admired in Africa and around the world. It should be a leadership that can hold its own and stand tall anywhere in the world. That is the type of leadership I offer.

22. As a former two-term Governor and currently President of the Senate by the grace of God, I believe I possess a unique blend of executive and legislative experience to push for and implement reforms that will deliver real improvements in the daily lives of our people. I know what it takes to create jobs and grow the economy. I can make the tough decisions when it matters. I will spearhead a new agenda that can transform the lives of ordinary Nigerians in real terms.

23. Believe me when I say that it will not be business as usual. This will be a dynamic government of action that will pursue the growth of Nigeria with doggedness, determination and conviction. I will lead a result-driven administration. We shall set targets with clear timelines to ensure that anticipated deliverables are met. You can benchmark us and hold us accountable. In short, I assure you that I will deliver on all promises. What I envision is a new chapter in governance in this country. We will be driven by what is best for Nigerians.

25. I have deliberately chosen the opportunity of being here with you, my Number One constituency who I see as the future of our great country, to make my intention known. I believe the Nigerian youth are critical to rebuilding and growing the economy, and restoring our national pride.

26. I therefore ask you and all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with me in this noble cause.

My brothers, My sisters, Let’s Grow Nigeria Together.

God bless you all.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Twitter Agog As DJ Cuppy Reveals Why She Stopped Being A Feminist

Popular Nigerian Disc Jockey, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has stirred up a hornet’s nest on social media after she revealed why she stopped being a feminist and concentrated on just making herself a better entertainer.

In a recent interview with City FM, Florence, who is the daughter of oil magnate, Femi Otedola, said she stopped regarding herself as a feminist because she does not really understand it.

In the interview, she said:

“I used to consider myself a feminist, until I realised that I did not really understand it. I don’t like people who are hypocrites. People are out there speaking about women rights, but behind closed doors are doing crazy things.

“I will never come out as a feminist because I am in a male-dominated industry, so I have a certain scenario. I deal with men on a daily basis and I realise that they will always think that they are better than women. I don’t think it is going to solve it.

“But you must also limit the amount of attention you give them because let’s be honest, the more energy you put into one thing, the less time you can into another.

“If I literally sat down all day and spoke about how hard it is being a woman, I won’t have time to sit here talking with you, because I will be somewhere in Alade market talking about how women need better rights.”

There is no gainsaying that her opinion will not go down well with a lot of people propagating feminism in the society and majority of them have begun to flakes at her on Twitter.

A section of Twitter users also backed her.

#360TvSeries: “Mr Robot” To Come To An End With Season Four

Featured Image

“Mr. Robot” will come to an end on USA Network after its fourths season

The fourth season of the award-winning drama is set to premiere in 2019.

Season four, announced in December, was originally set to feature another cycle of eight episodes but sources say that order has now been expanded to 12..

The series stars Rami Malek and Christian Slater. It follows Elliot Alderson (Malek), a cyber-security engineer who became involved in the underground hacker group fsociety after being recruited by their mysterious leader Mr. Robot (Slater), whom he later discovered to be the projection of his dead father. Following the events of fsociety’s five/nine hack on the multi-national corporation E Corp, the series explores the consequences of the attack, the motivations of those involved and the disintegration between Elliot and Mr. Robot.

When I first created the world of Mr. Robot, I thought it would be a niche television series with a small, cult following. Over the past three years, it has become so much more, and I am continually humbled by the show’s recognition and by the amazing cast and crew that work tirelessly to help bring my vision to life,” Esmail said Wednesday in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Since day one, I’ve been building toward one conclusion — and in breaking the next season of Mr. Robot, I have decided that conclusion is finally here. Everyone on the creative team, including the amazing people at USA and UCP, didn’t want to say goodbye, but we ultimately have too much respect for Elliot’s journey to extend past its inevitable ending. Therefore, season four will serve as the final chapter of the Mr. Robot story. To fans of the show: thank you for the past three years, and I can’t wait to share this exciting final season with you.”

Though it never enjoyed big numbers in the ratings department, the show received critical acclaim and won an array of awards, including an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor for Rami and Outstanding Music Composition For A Series.

Rami has not only won the Emmy, but he has been nominated for a slew of awards for his portrayal of the hacker Elliot.

Lyon President Reveals Florentino Perez Told Him Mariano Diaz Was ‘Not What Real Madrid Were Looking For’ Before They Signed Him

Featured Image

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez reportedly told Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas that his new signing, Mariano Diaz, was ‘not what he was looking for’.

According to spanish outlet AS, Aulas explained that Mariano Diaz had asked to leave with just days remaining of the transfer window after an offer from Sevilla arrived.

However, the player wanted a return to Madrid instead. Upon calling Los Blancos chief Perez and signalling Mariano’s intentions, the Real Madrid president replied that the Dominican Republic international did not fit the player profile that he was looking for.

Mariano Diaz insisted that it was his desire to return to the Santiago Bernabeu, however, and after Aulas told Perez of Mariano’s firm intentions, the offer came from the Spanish capital.

Aulas said: “Before, Mariano had already told me he wanted to go to Madrid, I called Florentino Perez and he told me that it was not the player profile he was looking for, but Mariano insisted that he wanted to go to Madrid and then the offer came.”

Aulas also revealed that Real Madrid paid a fee totalling €33m, but 35% was deducted as a result of Los Blancos buy-back clause after selling Mariano to France just last summer.

Due to the clause, Madrid only paid around €20m to bring their former player back to the Santiago Bernabeu to provide competition for Karim Benzema.

Arsenal’s new goalkeeper Bernd Leno has spoken out about his lack of first-team minutes under manager Unai Emery since moving from Bayer Leverkusen to the London capital

Bernd Leno is yet to make his full debut for Arsenal this season, having to watch on with Petr Cech preferred as the first choice in north London.

Speaking with German newspaper Sport Bild, Leno opened up about having to watch on from the sidelines since his £22.5m switch to the Premier League this summer.

Leno said: “I am convinced that my change was the right decision, I’m not crazy. It may take a few weeks or months, but my time here will come.”

Arsenal boss Unai Emery also responded to questions surrounding Leno after the opening day defeat to Manchester City, saying: “We want the competition with the goalkeeper and also every player in the squad, The position is the same. The same chances for all the goalkeepers.

“Petr Cech had a very good pre-season. He has experience of continuing to defend our goal. Leno is starting with us, he is working very well and also played very good in pre-season. He can wait his moment.”.

Chelsea Never Had An Interest In Signing Nabil Fekir – Lyon President Jean Michel Aulas

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas has revealed that Chelsea never had any interest in signing Nabil Fekir

Lyon had seemingly been prepared to sell Nabil Fekir to Liverpool earlier this summer before the transfer broke down before the World Cup.

Fekir was linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge towards the end of the transfer window but despite discussions being held, Aulas has indicated that the Blues were not interested in the France international.

Aulas said: “In the beginning when we thought about our summer transfer window and how to organise the future squad, we thought that he was practically gone.

“That’s why we have been able to adapt things. We spoke with Chelsea representatives, and they had no interest at all in him. From then on, we realised we could change our plans.”

Manchester United Defy Jose Mourinho, Offer Anthony Martial 5-Year Deal

Manchester United Defy Jose Mourinho, Offer Anthony Martial 5-Year Deal

After being linked with a move away to Real Madrid, Chelsea and Spurs all summer, and after speculation that Jose Mourinho wanted him sold, Anthony Martial is close to signing a new five-year deal with Manchester United, reports The Times.

Mourinho was ready to offload Martial this summer but any such move was vetoed by Ed Woodward, United’s executive vice-chairman.

Telegraph reports that the club wants to keep Martial, regardless of how Mourinho feels about the Frenchman, in a move that will cast further doubts over the manager’s future ahead of Sunday’s crunch game against Burnley at Turf Moor.

IT’S OFFICIAL: Mourinho’s Manchester United Are In Crisis!

Bear in mind that Woodward refused to sanction moves for two Mourinho transfer targets this summer – Belgium  defender Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur or Leicester City and England centre-half Harry Maguire – much to the manager’s frustration.

Mourinho no longer has control over transfer matters and the club’s willingness to give a lucrative new contract to a player he does not wish to keep further undermines his position.

‘Nervous’ Usain Bolt To Make Footballing Debut On Friday

‘Nervous’ Usain Bolt To Make Footballing Debut On Friday

Usain Bolt is set to get a first taste of competitive football on Friday in a much-hyped game, but the sprint superstar admits he is nervous with his fitness levels not up to scratch.

The Jamaican is likely to be handed a 10 or 15 minute run-out for Australia’s Central Coast Mariners in a friendly against an amateur side as he works towards his dream of earning a playing contract and becoming a professional footballer.

Such is the buzz swirling around the match that it will be broadcast live on pay TV and 10,000 fans are expected to cram into the Central Coast Stadium for what is normally a low-key pre-season fixture.

The club, which finished bottom of the domestic A-League last season, is planning fireworks and other entertainment to keep fans amused until Bolt makes his entrance.

All eyes will be on the eight-time Olympic champion with a local paper planning to distribute 100,000 cardboard cut-out face masks of the 32-year-old for onlookers to wear.

“I think that will be a bit weird, but not too weird,” Bolt, who favours playing left wing, joked of the masks. “I’ve seen a little bit of that in track and field. But it will be something new to play the first game and see that.”

Bolt dominated sprinting after taking double individual gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and he remains the world record holder for the 100 metres.

He went on to win a further six Olympic golds and pick up 11 world titles before retiring last year and pursuing his passion for football.

Despite being used to running in front of 100,000 spectators and millions of TV viewers, the nerves are jangling as he enters a new phase in his career, having tried out with several other clubs around the world to no avail.

“There will be nerves, definitely. It’s not like a charity game anymore, this is a career I’m pursuing,” said Bolt.

“I expect to make mistakes, but I also expect to go in, make myself proud and push myself.”

His football dream is still a work in progress, with Bolt admitting this week to struggling with the constant stop-start of the sport, unlike his usual quick fire sprint on the athletics track.

“He doesn’t have football fitness, which is natural. We have not brought him in and said you have to do this and do that by this time,” said Mariners coach Mike Mulvey, who has given Bolt an indefinite time to prove himself.

“For this Friday, it comes down to what the fitness coaches tell me with regards to how his body’s coping with the loading we’ve got at the moment.

“But I would imagine he’s going to be playing some part on Friday.”

Biafra: IPOB Declares Nationwide Strike On Sept 14

Biafra: IPOB Declares Nationwide General Strike On Sept 14

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said that it will declare general strike across the South-East and South-South geo-political zones and other areas where Biafrans reside on September 14.

The Pro-Biafra agitators said the declaration was to mourn those killed in the struggle for the restoration of Biafra Independence since 2015.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group stated that inhabitants of the two geo-political zones and other conscientious Biafrans living in other parts of the country and the world over are required to stay indoors on that day and away from work or other daily business activities throughout the day.

It said it would be a protest to register their anger regarding men and women killed at Afaraukwu in Umuahia during Operation Python Dance II on September 14, last year, those killed in Ngwa, Aba, Igweocha (Port Harcourt) and buried in unmarked mass graves as a result of military invasion of Biafraland by the Nigerian Army.

Besides, it said all businesses, offices, markets, schools and road transportation would be shut down for 24 hours from midnight of September 13.

The statement read: “As a result of ongoing campaign of ethnic and religious persecution, genocide and humiliation of the people of Biafra in general and Igbo people in particular by this Buhari regime, culminating in the abominable incarceration of innocent mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers in Owerri prisons, we the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) do hereby declare September 14, 2018 a day of general strike, mourning and resistance across Biafraland.

“Inhabitants of South-East/South-South and all conscientious Biafrans living in other parts of Nigeria and the world are required to stay indoors away from work or daily business activities throughout the day of September 14, 2018 to register our anger and protest regarding the men and women killed at Afaraukwu in Umuahia during Operation Python Dance II on September 14 last year, those killed in Ngwa, Aba, Igweocha (Port Harcourt) and buried in unmarked mass graves as a result of unprovoked military invasion of Biafraland by the Nigerian Army.

“We shall also remember all those killed in the struggle for the restoration of Biafra Independence since August 2015 when the army shot dead Mr. Okafor in Onitsha on a peaceful march from Nkpor to Onitsha main town. Their sacrifice will neither be forgotten nor will it be in vain because come what may, this generation of IPOB must and will restore Biafra.

“Nationwide general strike observed as a sit-at-home across Biafraland on September 14, 2018 is the only way we Biafrans can honour our fallen brethren and legitimately remind our northern oppressors and their collaborators in our midst that enough is enough! We do not want another Operation Python Dance or another mass murder of Biafra agitators and humiliation of our mothers in our land. Biafraland we state categorically must emerge a free nation under God, whether our enemies like it or not.”

President Buhari And His Lifeless Presidency

President Buhari And His Lifeless Presidency By Adebayo Raphael

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

Since the beginning of Nigeria’s fourth republic in 1999, the present administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by President Muhammadu Buhari is unarguably the worst. The failure of the incumbent administration to live up to expectations, within and outside Nigeria, relegates every measure of the towering hope that welcomed it.

This piece was written by Adebayo Raphael. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The current president of Nigeria has consistently proved to the world that he is undeserving of leading this magnificent country of 180million extraordinary people imbued with unimaginable potential. The Nigeria that our current president projects in the world, is a backward, ignorant, antiquated, unalluring, visionless, confused, unimaginative rudderless country. At different times when president Buhari has had the opportunity to blisteringly fly the flags of Nigeria before the world, he unabashedly sullied it instead.

So when I learned that the unscrupulous president of the United States of America, Donald Trump, allegedly referred to Nigeria’s president as a “lifeless” person he never wants to meet again, I shuddered in grief and astonishment. Grief because I realized that once again, our president has fumbled abroad. Astonished because the president’s henchmen ostensibly painted a picture of Eldorado after the meeting. Although this is characteristic of the APC and president Buhari’s administration, it is an insult to the collective intelligence of Nigerians. And I must confess that I am excruciatingly worried, as president Buhari meets with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May today. And I hope he doesn’t fumble much, or at least, he should be considerate and not sell Nigeria off.

Lifeless President: Nigerian Govt Speaks On Trump’s Statement To Buhari

Although I do not wish to dignify president Trump with a response, but as the saying goes, “if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.” The administration of president Buhari is exceptionally lifeless. It only comes to life when it wants to abuse human rights, arrest journalists, invade the homes of judges, shield corruption, waste public resources on presidential junkets, hire crowds to attack peaceful protesters, subvert the democratic process, and engage in fruitless propaganda.

Under this administration, Nigeria’s economy slipped into a recession, and Nigerians have been dealing with emasculating economic hardship ever since, despite statistical claims that we have exited the recession. As of today, more than 10million people have lost their jobs in the last three years of this administration, despite its promise to create 3million jobs annually. Nigeria currently shares about 15% of the world’s unemployment rate with approximately 30million unemployed people in the country. According to UNICEF, Nigeria has about 10.5million out-of-school children – the highest in the world, and 60% of these children are in the northern part of the country, and 60% of them are girls. According to the Brookings Institution, Nigeria is currently the extreme poverty capital of the world with about 87million extremely poor people, and a trend of Nigerians sinking into extreme poverty every six minutes. At the helm of Nigeria’s economic affairs, is a minister who has shown no remorse for forging the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate – all under president Buhari’s watch.

If you choose to look beyond Nigeria’s economic woes, you certainly will not find solace in her messy security crisis. Since president Buhari came into power in 2015, thousands of Nigerians have died from the sanguinary binge of killer-herdsmen, with debilitating impact on Nigeria’s food basket in the middle belt of the country. Almost on a daily basis, the number of Internally Displaced Persons and farmers being forced out of their farms continues to skyrocket. The consequence of these endless attacks by herdsmen is the impending famine that would likely hit Nigeria in 2019 or sooner. The commander in chief of Nigeria has refused to address this national threat head-on for reasons best known to him. He has refused to do as much as admit that these killer-herdsmen are terrorists, as swiftly as he did with members of the IPOB in the Southeast, who never killed anyone with impunity, even at the climax of their agitation. Nigeria’s soldiers hardly get their pay, and when they die, the army either denies it or abandon their bereaved families.

Trump Never Wants To Meet Someone As Lifeless As Buhari Again

The tyranny of president Buhari’s administration on the people is demonic. He has unabashedly shown us that once a tyrant is always a tyrant. His endless assault on freedom of speech and of the press is emblematic of his past as a military dictator. His intolerance for criticisms renders his facade of a reformed democrat null and void. His haughtiness for transparency and accountability is inimical to democracy. His lack of empathy is cruel to humanity. His lack of objectivity, irredentism, and bigotry taints the dignity of leadership. His lack of capacity for a progressive leadership worldview is unbefitting of our great country. I don’t know about you, but not only is president Buhari lifeless, his presidency is lifeless, too.
