Update On Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) 2018 Recruitment

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has dissociated itself from a recruitment advertisement purportedly by the corporation currently trending in the social media.

According to a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs, Mr Ndu Ughamadu, the corporation informed Nigerians that it would as usual advertise at appropriate time, vacancies in the corporation through the national dailies.

It further advised unsuspecting members of the public to be wary of the scam.

“The advertisement, set in NNPC’s corporate colour with its logo and a corporate picture, sets candidates’ entry requirements to include Master’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) and National Diploma, is fake.”

“The recruitment announcement or invitation to recruitment interview of this nature appearing intermittently in the social media should be discountenanced,” it said.

According to the statement, the NNPC is not carrying out any recruitment exercise now.

“The National Oil Company dissociated itself from the fake e-mail address to which unsuspecting prospects were asked to direct their Curriculum Vitae in the placement advert,’’ it added.

The corporation further “reminded job seekers to note the antics of scammers who deploy, on social media platforms, such communication strategies as text messages, vacancy announcements and forged letters inviting them for non-existing job interviews.”

These, it said, were tricks to extort money from them, and cautioned that any applicant who entertained such invitations would have himself or herself to blame.

It encouraged those who had already fallen victims to volunteer information to the law enforcement agencies.

Mbappe Banned For Three Matches

Featured Image

French teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe has been suspended for three matches after his red card against Nimes last weekend, the French league announced on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old, who also scored in the 4-2 win, was sent off for pushing over Teji Savanier after the Nimes player hacked him to the ground.

The French champions will be without Mbappe for Ligue 1 games against Saint-Etienne on September 14, Rennes on September 23 and Reims three days later.

The ban does not affect Mbappe’s participation in PSG’s mouthwatering Champions League opener against last season’s runners-up Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday, September 18.

Savanier, who was also dismissed by referee Jerome Brisard after the incident, has been handed a five-match suspension.

Mbappe had already been booked in the first half of the encounter last Saturday for taking the ball away before a Nimes free-kick.

It is the second red card of Mbappe’s young career after he was sent off in January for a bad foul on Rennes’ Ismaila Sarr during a French League Cup semi-final.

As he is currently with the France squad preparing for Thursday’s UEFA Nations League opener against Germany in Munich, he was not present at Wednesday’s disciplinary hearing.

Mbappe was named the best young player of the tournament after scoring four goals as France won the World Cup for the second time in July, becoming only the second teenager after Brazilian legend Pele to net in a World Cup final.

He has already scored four goals in just three appearances for PSG this season.

Defection: PDP Lusts After 6 APC Governors, 27 Lawmakers

Following the gale of defections that gorged into the country’s political-sphere in recent times, the opposing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that it was almost concluding discussions with more state governors and members of the National Assembly elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to dump the ruling party for the opposition party.

APC Releases Timetable For Primaries – Presidential Candidates To Pay N45m

According to the party, it had already concluded discussions with six APC governors and 27 APC members in the National Assembly, who it said had also drawn their consultations and secured the mandates of their constituents to move to the PDP ahead of the 2019 general election.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, said that the party had verified that discussions on control of party structures in the affected states and senatorial zones had also reached advanced stage and would be completed in a couple of weeks after which the governors and lawmakers will announce their defection to the PDP.

Lami Phillips Raises Alarm As Lagos Demolishes Pedestrian Bridge At Dowen College

He further stated that the affected lawmakers have promised to defect from the ruling party to the PDP as soon as the two chambers of the National Assembly resume sitting.

His words: ”However, in line with decisions reached at the discussions, the members of the National Assembly decamping (sic.) to the PDP will cross-carpet at the reconvening of session in the two chambers, which will increase the PDP majority in both chambers.

“The party wishes to assure its members  that all grey areas of the  agreement, including issues of waivers and accommodation for participation in primaries, are being smoothened out by the former Governor Liyel Imoke-led PDP Contact and Integration Committee, which has been galvanizing our alliances among stakeholders across other parties, including those from the APC.

“The PDP also commends the spirit of tolerance, dialogue, accommodation and oneness of purpose that pervade the alliance among members.”

“I’ve Been Better Than You This Entire Decade” – Joe Budden Replies Eminem

“I’ve Been Better Than You This Entire Decade” – Joe Budden Replies Eminem

Joe Budden has responded to two disses Eminem made about him on his new album ‘Kamikaze‘.

Eminem’s tenth studio album, Kamikaze, continues to dominate the conversation as the album sees Marshall getting personal, naming names and ruffling more than a few feathers and among them was his former collaborator and Slaughterhouse member Joe Budden.

Trouble started between the two when the album dropped on Friday (Aug. 31) and Eminem, on the songs “The Ringer” and “Fall,” mentions Budden by name.

On ‘The Ringer’, he rapped: “I’m sorry, wait, what’s your talent? Oh, critiquin’ / My talent? Oh, b*tch, I don’t know who the f*ck y’all are.” Later, on ‘Fall’, he added: “Somebody tell Budden before I snap, he better fasten it/Or have his body baggage zipped/The closest thing he’s had to hits is smacking b*tches.”

However, the rapper-turned-broadcaster, replied via the latest episode of his The Joe Budden Podcast on Wednesday (Sept. 5), rather than a traditionally recorded diss in the booth.

“I heard the album,” says Joe, addressing Em directly, “and because I don’t think you know all the members that were in the group, I don’t really think you know our history. Let me tell you what Joe Budden has thought this entire time. I’ve been better than you this entire f*cking decade!” Letting that one sink in, Joe hits them with a Kanye West-esque “hanh?” for good measure. “In my rapper brain, I’m a content n***a. You gotta say something! You have not said anything for the better part of a whole f*cking decade!” Mal chimes in with the ad-lib: “that’s true.”

“You have rhymed a bunch of words,” says Joe.

Machine Gun Kelly, who is also one of Eminem’s targets on ‘Kamikaze’, has already responded to the record with a diss track called ‘Rap Devil’.

Eminem called him out on the track ‘Not Alike’ over comments Kelly made about his daughter Hailie in 2012.

After the madness that was Infinity War and Thanos killing half of the Universe, the little ray of hope Marvel offered us came in the form of the Captain Marvel logo in the Post Credits scene, since then we’ve learned a Captain Marvel movie is in the works.

Marvel already announced that Brie Larson was going to be playing the role of Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel but now we finally see other images from the movie. EW released a first look at Larson suited up in the iconic superhero costume as well as in her Air Force pilot uniform as Officer Carol Danver.

We also get to see Ronan the accuser, since this movie is going to be set in the 1990s, this Ronan is still a regular high ranking Kree soldier and hasn’t been destroyed by the power stone as we saw in Guardians of the Galaxy. This movie also looks like it’ll introduce us to one of Marvel comics most popular sinister alien race, the Skrulls.

One final bit from the photos is we see a young, eyepatch-less Nick Fury who is probably still just a regular S.H.I.E.L.D officer here, kudos to the graphics team for the work they did to make Samuel L Jackson look younger than ever.

Femi Adesina Tells Atiku To “Mind His Language Against Buhari”

Femi Adesina Tells Atiku To “Mind His Language Against Buhari”

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, has reacted to a statement credited to a former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar that President Muhammadu Buhari is “power drunk.”

Abubakar, who is a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was quoted as saying Buhari is “very uncompromising, power drunk (and) will not be ready to leave power without a fight.

In an interview with the AFP, Mr Abubakar, said unlike former President Goodluck Jonathan, who peacefully relinquished power in 2015, the country is now dealing with “a retired general, very uncompromising, also power-drunk; who will not be ready to leave power without a fight.”

Osinbajo Says Atiku’s Understanding Of Restructuring Is Vague – Ex-VP Fires Back

“The characters that are involved this time, as far as the leadership of this country is concerned, are different from 2015,” he was quoted by the AFP as saying.

In its response on Wednesday, the Presidency said it agreed Mr Buhari was “uncompromising” in dealing with corruption, but denied he was “power-drunk”.

Adesina further stated that “let the former Vice President rest assured that there will be no ‘fight’ over power in Nigeria.

“Not under President Buhari’s watch. The people don’t want a fight. It is some political leaders we must beseech to eschew pugnacity and mind their language.”

Read Adesina’s full statement below:

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, was quoted by a foreign news medium as accusing President Muhammadu Buhari of being “very uncompromising, also power drunk; (and) who will not be ready to leave power without a fight.”

Rather than use the name of President Buhari to buoy his bid to get the presidential ticket of a party, whose flag has been flying at half-mast since it got roundly trounced at the polls in 2015, the former Vice President needs be told that the President is truly uncompromising, but only when it comes to looting the common patrimony of Nigerians, and squandering their riches.

President Buhari is uncompromising in the quest to restore probity and accountability to public office. He is uncompromising in cleaning the rot Nigeria was consigned into pre-2015, thus the war against corruption is being fought without fear or favour. The President is equally resolute in the determination to ensure that Nigeria is no longer a mono-economy, depending only on oil.

Yes, President Buhari is single-minded in effecting change in every area of Nigerian life. So, Alhaji Abubakar is right, if that was what he meant by the President being “uncompromising.”

But power drunk? No! And being a man “who will not be ready to leave power without a fight?” Never! Not President Buhari, who has demonstrated in many ways that he is a committed democrat, though also a retired military general. He has no apologies about that. Through a sterling military career, he served Nigeria with his heart and might, before venturing into partisan politics.

In many ways, President Buhari has wielded power with decency, and as a means of serving the people, rather than for personal ends. If there’s one person not intoxicated by power, it is President Buhari, and scores of millions of Nigerians know this. That is why they will invest him with power again next year, knowing that he won’t misuse or misapply what has been entrusted to him.

Former VP Abubakar may want to borrow a leaf from the decorous language employed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, in answering his recent press statement on the restructuring debate. That is the hallmark of statesmen, and not crying wolf where none exists, which is what the allegation of being uncompromising and power drunk truly is.

President Buhari is actuated by service to country, and nothing else. So, there couldn’t be anything like “not ready to leave power without a fight.”

Indeed, the insinuation of a fight is the mindset of a man who is either undemocratic, or has seen defeat staring him, and his party, in the face.

Let the former Vice President rest assured that there will be no ‘fight’ over power in Nigeria. Not under President Buhari’s watch. The people don’t want a fight. It is some political leaders we must beseech to eschew pugnacity, and mind their language.

Just Like Apple, Amazon Hits $1,000,000,000,000 In Value

Amazon.com Inc yesterday joined Apple Inc in the $1 trillion club, becoming the second member of the group after its stock price doubled in 15 months – reflecting the online retailer’s striking transformation from a profitless bookseller into a disruptive force of commerce.

It is understood that the company’s shares rose as high as $2,050.50 on Tuesday morning, pushing it over $1 trillion in value, before immediately falling back and then ending the day at $2,039.51, below the $1 trillion threshold.

Apple Is Now Worth $1 Trillion

Investors have rewarded the Seattle-based company as it demonstrated better financial discipline in recent quarters, reporting record profits because of lucrative businesses such as cloud computing despite aggressively spending on industries from health care to grocery delivery.

“They’ve proven they can make it work,” said Michael Lippert, who manages the Baron Capital BCAP -98.00% Opportunity Fund that counts Amazon as its largest holding. “They’re spending a lot on all these things to build and enforce their competitive advantages.”

Just Like Apple, Amazon Hits $1,000,000,000,000 in Value

Amazon and Apple, which hit the trillion-dollar milestone on August 2, symbolize the growing influence of tech companies on markets and the economy. The industry is amassing wealth and power, creating a new order in business where the most valuable resource is no longer oil, but data.

While it took Apple almost 38 years as a public company to achieve the trillion dollar milestone, Amazon got there in 21 years. While Apple’s iPhone and other devices remain popular and its revenues are growing, it is not keeping up with Amazon’s blistering sales growth.

Nigeria’s foremost afrosoul singer, Lami Phillips-Gbadamosi, has raised the alarm after the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led government of Lagos state stormed the premises of Dowen College in the state and begun its planned demolishing of the students’ pedestrian bridge.

The singer, who appears not to be in any good mood with the state government, took to her Instagram page on Wednesday, September 5, where she posted a video of the incident accompanied with the write ups below:

NCAA Reveals When “Nigeria Air” Will Receive Certificates To Operate

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has disclosed that it would deliver the Air Transport Licence (ATL) and the Aircraft Operators Certificate (AOC) to the new national carrier, Nigeria Air, in the next 90 days.

Speaking on Tuesday at a news conference in Lagos, the Director-General, NCAA, Muktar Usman, a captain, said the proposed December take off of the carrier was still feasible.

Mr Usman said, “We still have more than 90 days to the end of the year, so, it is still feasible, all things being equal. I am just talking from the regulatory point of view.”

He assured the flying public and Nigerians that the government was still working round the clock for a successful take off of the airline.

According to him, the government will continue to work effectively on the project until it is delivered to Nigerians at the stipulated time.

He noted that talks surrounding the proposed national carrier had reduced significantly because most Nigerians were beginning to understand and buy into it.

FG Launches “Nigeria Air” As New National Carrier

Mr Usman explained that the role of Transaction Advisers to the project was a gradual process, adding that the process so far had been transparent.

“The government intention about the takeoff of Nigeria Air is to get the best for the flying public because Nigerians have been yearning for a strong and viable carrier.

“We want a carrier that will meet the demands and potential of the domestic market, the regional market and the international market,” he said.

The Airline Transport Licence (ATL) is the highest level of aircraft pilot certificate.

Those certified as Airline Transport Pilots (unconditional) are authorised to act as pilot in command on scheduled air carrier’s aircraft.

On the other hand, the Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) is the approval granted by a National Aviation Authority (NAA) to an aircraft operator to allow it to use aircraft for commercial purposes.

“Stop Arresting Yahoo Boys” – Police IG Warns SARS

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has cautioned operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) to stop arresting internet fraudsters otherwise known as ‘yahoo boys’.

Daily Trust quoted the police chief as saying that their area of operation covered armed robbery and kidnapping; warning further that any officer caught arresting cyber-crime suspects would be sanctioned appropriately.

Buhari Refuses To Sign Electoral Bill, Gives Reasons

Idris gave the warning yesterday at the FSARS headquarters at Magbo in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The IGP was represented by the team leader of South West Monitoring Fact Finding Committee on SARS Reform, DCP Adepojulo Ilori.

He said the committee had embarked on the inspection of SARS detention facilities across the southwest states.

SARS Officer Sacked For Extorting N5,000 From Lagosians

The committee reviewed the case files of all the suspects in detention and promised to transfer all civil cases to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation to de-congest the detention facility.

Ilori said: “We are visiting all the FSARS facilities in all the commands in the Southwest states and ensure that the IGP’s directives are strictly complied with. To achieve this, we are soliciting the usual unflinching support of the media, the civil liberty organization, human rights organizations and the entire members of the public to promptly report their observation to the CP of the state concerned because we cannot achieve this without your cooperation.

“We are very sure as from now that you are going to see a positively transformed FSARS operative that will now function as per their specific role of nipping robbery, armed robbery and kidnapping activities in the bud. This why we are here.”

“For now, SARS will be operating in our normal uniform until after we might have completed our fact finding mission even the presidency will still have inputs.”

If You’re Nigerian, You Owe China N15,000!

Featured Image

If You’re Nigerian, You Owe China N15,000!

For the N3 trillion Nigeria has received from China in the last four years, every Nigerian now owes China N15,000 in debt.

That’s just N3,000 short of minimum wage.

The debt comes from two huge tranches of aid from China: $3.1 billion in 2014 and $6 billion for infrastructure in the last three years, according to political analyst Theophilus Abbah.

Simple mathematics. Divide the combined total, just over N3 trillion, by the 198 million population Nigeria always talks about: that’s a nice N15,000 in debt to China for every Nigerian.

And that doesn’t even include the loan agreement signed this week in Beijing where China pledged $60 billion in credit facilities, a quarter of it interest free.

Nigeria, China To Sign Agreement Worth $328million

Analysts say getting governments indebted to China is the republic’s way of outsmarting the US and the UK in Africa trade

“They are active in Liberia, Ghana, Angola,” minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, told Bloomberg.

“They are throwing money where their mouth is and in very many respect is one area where they have beaten both the US, European and British in things like this.

“Africa requires a lot of development funds; China is able to provide it. Not just provide in terms of money but provide with adequate technology.”

The implication is Africa may be unable to resist Chinese trade and international politics.

Recently, at the World Health Assembly, the US proposed watering down recommendations against breastmilk substitutes and threatened all countries who opposed its stand with sanctions.

Only Russia stood up to the US and saved the recommendation.

A United States lawmaker, Rep Chris Smith, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, said in a recent opinion article that China also uses foreign aid as a “bargaining chip” in corrupt African countries with plenty of natural resources for them to exploit.

“AidData, a research laboratory at the College of William and Mary, argued in written testimony submitted to my committee that China effectively buys the votes of African governments at the United Nations; they concluded that if African countries voted with China at the UN an extra 10 per cent of the time, they would receive an 86 per cent bump in assistance,” the lawmaker said.

Nigeria has accepted the Chinese Yuan as a reserve currency, which will begin to compete with the US dollar.

The US lawmaker lamented that the Chinese in-road into Africa could be dangerous.

“All of these trends—rising levels of debt, shoddy infrastructure projects, and investment that permits human rights abusers to consolidate their influence and power—point to serious risks for the future of the African continent.”

Kanye West Begs Drake On Twitter Over Pusha T Feud

Kanye West appears to have extended an olive branch in the direction of Drake, as the former attempts to make amends with the latter after months of a back-and-forth feud.

In a series of tweets in the morning on Wednesday, Mr West apologized for a summer of disputes including the well-publicised beef with Pusha-T.

Drake Fires Back at Pusha-T, Kanye West

“Sending good energy and love to Drake and family and crew,” he captioned a screenshot of Drake’s stage from his Instagram account. “I haven’t seen the show in person but the images look incredible online. I understand where the confusion started.”

Kanye praised Drake’s current live show, while saying sorry for releasing Ye in the same month as Drake’s Scorpion.

He also expressed regret that he put out “Lift Yourself” without including a feature from the OVO rapper.

West said that when he announced release dates for the many albums he was producing at the time, “I was a bit ramped up doing 25 tweets a day TMZ happened shortly after.”

He went on to say that at the time they were “building as friends and brothers” and added, “I should have spoken to Pusha about the Quentin Miller bar. There should have been more songs with my involvement that had any negative energy towards you.”

Kanye also denied that it was him that told Pusha-T that Drake had a son.

He ended his tweets by stating “This is all Jedi level” and telling Drake he will be attending a stop on the Aubrey and the Three Migos tour in the next week.

Nigeria Bans Coach Salisu Yusuf After He Was Caught On Video Accepting Bribe

The big stick has been wielded on Super Eagles’ Chief Coach, Salisu Yusuf, as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has slammed a one–year ban on him from all football-related activities.

The ban is coming after the adoption of a report by the NFF Committee on Ethics and Fair Play.

VIDEO: Nigerian Coach Caught On Camera Taking Bribe

As contained in a statement on Wednesday, the committee considered the complaint by the NFF as well as the coach’s defence of a video documentary in which he was seen accepting $1,000 bribe from an undercover reporter, Ghanaian Aremeyaw Anas, posing as a player’s agent.

In the statement issued by its spokesperson, Demola Olajire, the NFF said it had accepted the report and approved the committee’s recommendation.

The coach has also been told to pay a fine of $5,000 to the Federation within three months.

In its report submitted to the NFF Secretariat on Tuesday, days after inviting the coach to state his own side of matters, the committee, chaired by Nuhu Ribadu, said it:

1) Established from the admission of Coach Salisu Yusuf and also found as a fact from the documentary and video evidence before it, that he accepted the cash gift of $1,000 offered by Tigers Player’s Agency, an undercover reporter, purportedly interested in acting on behalf of Players Osas Okoro and Rabiu Ali, for their inclusion in the list of players for 2018 CHAN Competition in Morocco.

2) The Committee found as a fact that it was not an error of judgment on the part of Coach Salisu Yusuf but a conscious and deliberate decision to have accepted the cash gift of $1,000 from the decoy player agent/undercover reporter, purportedly interested in acting on behalf of Players Osas Okoro and Rabiu Ali, even though the evidence before the Committee did not establish that his conduct influenced the choice of the two players.

3) That the two Players could have made the team to 2018 CHAN Competition in Morocco on the basis of their talent and performance.

4) That Coach Salisu Yusuf did not accept the offer of 15% of the anticipated transfer fees of the said players, as there was no follow –up action on the promise.

5) That the act of the Coach, which was widely published on the British Broadcasting Corporation, has a damaging effect on the reputation and integrity of Nigerian Football, as he ought to have conducted himself more professionally in line with the Code of Conduct signed alongside his Contract with the Nigeria Football Federation, as his conduct in public and in secret should be exemplary, since coaches are role models.

6) That the FIFA Code of Ethics, NFF Code of Ethics and FIFA Disciplinary Code, did not contemplate negligence or error of judgment as a defence to violation of any of the provisions as contained therein, as punitive measures must be adopted to serve as deterrent to other intending offenders, even though, that he is a first time offender.

On the committee’s decision, it stated that “In accordance with Art. 22, FIFA Disciplinary Code, he is hereby banned for the period of one year, from partaking or involvement or participation in any football related activity, effective from the date of this decision. He is also fined in the sum of $5,000 to be paid within three (3) months of the date of this decision…”

The committee also ruled that an appeal against the decision can be made to the NFF Appeals Committee.

With Mainasara Illo (Member), Justin Okoroji (Member) and Joshua Onoja (Secretary) also present, the committee said it passed its verdict of guilt on the defendant based on “Art. 20, as well as Art. 21 (1) and 21 (3) of the NFF Code of Ethics. It also made reference to Art. 10 and 11 of the FIFA Code of Ethics.”

Article 20 states that “Persons bound by this Code may only offer or accept gifts or other benefits to and from persons within or outside NFF, or in conjunction with intermediaries or related parties as defined in this Code, which i) have symbolic or trivial value ii) exclude any influence for the execution or omission of an act that is related to their official activities or falls within their discretion iii) are not contrary to their duties iv) did not create any undue pecuniary or other advantage and v) did not create a conflict of interest.”

Article 21 (1) states that: “Persons bound by this Code must not offer, promise, give or accept any personal or undue pecuniary advantage or other advantage in order to obtain or retain business or any other improper advantage to or from anyone within or outside NFF. Such acts are prohibited; regardless of whether carried out directly or indirectly through, or in conjunction with, intermediaries or related parties as defined in this Code. In particular, persons bound by this Code must not offer, promise, give or accept any undue pecuniary or other advance for the execution or omission of an act that is related to their official activities and is contrary to their duties or falls within their discretion. Any such offer must be reported to the Ethics Committee and any failure to do so shall be sanctionable in accordance with this Code.”

Article 21 (3) states that “Persons bound by this Code must refrain from any activity or behaviour that might give rise to the appearance or suspicion of improper conduct as described in the foregoing sections, or any attempt thereof.”
