He said the action of the government has badly affected health delivery in the country, as the profession has gone unregulated.

The president further read from a communique issued at the end of the National Executive Council of the association.

The communique read: “The NEC call on the Federal Government to immediately re-constitute the Council of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

“The NEC also directed the National Officers’ Committee (NOC) to approach the court of law to seek for the interpretation of the statement ‘the Council shall be a body corporate in with perpetual succession’ as clearly stated in the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act Cap M8.”

“NMA has decided to defend the health of Nigerians and by the 30th of September if the council is not constituted, we will take decisive steps that will make people know that we are serious about it.

“For your information, all what the Nigerian government needed is to just give only one nominee because every other member of the council are statutory member. I don’t know why it is difficult.”

Paris Saint-Germain’s Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola Wanted To Join Chelsea This Summer

Featured Image

Chelsea goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain’s goalkeeper Alphonse Areola wanted to move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Alphonse Areola was the only member of France’s World Cup-winning squad who was Uncapped and finally got his debut in Thursday’s UEFA Nations League 0-0 draw against Germany.

“We spoke a lot in the summer. He wanted to come here but the final decision was not my responsibility,” Lollichon was quoted as saying in Le Figaro. “It would have been a pleasure to work with him.

“I did not have to wait until Thursday [on his France debut] to discover Alphonse. For me, he is already the best French goalkeeper today.

“His size, his ball-playing qualities, his calmness — he is the goalkeeper most adapted to playing in the way of the team. We eulogise about Lloris too much, but Areola is above him.

“Against Germany, he was very good in his position and his ability to cut out balls behind his defence. It is the base of any goalkeeper, but not everyone can do it as well.”

Areola was linked with a move away from PSG in the summer following the arrival of Gianluigi Buffon from Juventus, and Lollichon said rotating goalkeepers does not help.

“Alphonse is very proactive,” he said. “It is sad to see a club like Paris play a 40-year-old goalkeeper while you have a 25-year-old Areola who meets all expectations.

“In Ligue 1, Buffon can play another one or two years, but in the Champions League be careful — it is much faster and I have got reservations.

“Rotation among goalkeepers is ridiculous. Ask Petr Cech if he enjoyed being second choice with Arsenal in the Europa League last season — he was crazy!

“Alphonse will grow alongside Buffon, who can add to his game every day. However, he must play, otherwise he will miss his chance.”

Panic As Earth Tremors Shake Abuja, FEMA Reacts

The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on Friday assured residents that there was no likelihood of earthquake within the territory and the country, after the earth tremor in Mpappe and its environs on Thursday.

Residents in the Federal Capital Territory were alarmed by the sudden shake of the earth in the the affected areas.

The director general of the agency, Abass Idris, said there was no cause for alarm.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, he said the earth-shaking around Mpape and some parts of Maitama district does not imply that the FCT and indeed the country is under the threat of an earthquake.

“We are urging all residents to calm down and be rest assured that the abnormal situation would soon stop,” he said.

According to him, the possible cause of the incident may be due to earth tremor which he explained, is a “sign of seismic movement within the earth that was caused by a sudden break along a fault line.

“This sudden release of energy makes the ground to shake which may be caused by stress in underground rocks and may be due to rock blasting and mining activities in the area.

“When personnel of the agency interacted with residents of Mpape and its environs, they gathered that this was not the first time the shaking has occurred but has happened five years ago.”

He appealed to the residents of the affected area to remain calm as the agency was doing all within its powers to bring the situation under control within the shortest time.

He, however, said that there was need for residents to relocate to a safer zone during the tremor.

He urged the residents to vacate their houses and take cover under desks or tables and hold tight until the shake is over.

He also said that residents should stay away from windows and objects that are likely to fall and also find a clear spot away from buildings, trees and power lines.

“If you are in the car, slow down and drive to a clear place, stay in the car until the shaking stops.”

A resident of Maitama, Victor Okoye, who experienced the tremor, told NAN that he initially thought it was a blast from one of the quarry sites in Mpape which sometime happened but found out that it was not what he initially assumed.

“When I came outside my house, I discovered it was indeed a shaking and a lot began to run through my mind as I thought the end of the world was here,” he said.

Another resident in Mpape, Alice Adetola, expressed shock over the incident, adding that the experience terrified her children.

“I held on to my children and began to pray to God for mercy. I even began to think towards relocating if we make it through the night.” (NAN)

Nas Denies Ex-Wife’s Domestic Abuse Claims, Says “I Hate You So Much Right Now”

Nas Denies Ex-Wife’s Domestic Abuse Claims, Says “I Hate You So Much Right Now”

Nasir Olu Dare Jones popularly known as NAS has responded to the allegations made by his ex-wife Kelis against him, saying: “I do not beat women.”

Singer Kelis had earlier this year claimed that Nas had been physically abusive during their four-year marriage.

“Did he hit me? Mmhmm. Did I hit him back? Mmhmm. I’m not afraid to throw a punch, but I wouldn’t have started it,” she had said.

She claimed that while Rihanna was struggling with injuries from Chris Brown that she was also suffering same with NAS.

The pair divorced in 2009, with Kelis saying in April that she considered going public about the alleged abuse at the time – after seeing pictures of Rihanna’s face following an attack by Chris Brown.

“I remember so clearly, when the pictures came out with that whole thing that happened with her and Chris Brown, and the only way I can describe it was like Double Dutch.

“‘Do I jump in? Do I say it?’ Because I had bruises all over my body at that time,” she told Hollywood Unlocked.

“Seeing her, the way she looked, and then looking at myself, I was embarrassed,” Kelis said. “He knew it. He looked at me like, ‘Are you gonna do it?’.”

However, in a series of lengthy emotional posts, Nas revealed his struggles trying to see his son, how he ignored the signs that she is jealous and how he now hates her.

Nas, who’s one of the best-selling hip hop artists in history, also remembered the “good times”.

“I HATE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW. But I thought you was beautiful.

“You came into my life at a time I was grieving from my mom’s passing. You was a friend. Because of that I wanted to marry you,” he wrote, before apologising for not being “the most faithful husband”.

Antonio Rudiger Apologises For Unintentional Stamp On France Defender Benjamin Pavard

Featured Image

Antonio Rudiger has apologised to France full-back Benjamin Pavard after his studs left painful-looking marks on the Les Blues defender defender in Thursday’s UEFA Nations League clash.

Antonio Rudiger insisted it was not deliberate and has wished Pavard a swift recovery.

Sorry for Benjamin Pavard, it wasn’t intentional,” Rudiger tweeted on Friday.

“I have apologised to him right after it happened and I also want to use this opportunity to wish him a speedy recovery!”

Pavard did not accuse the centre-back of anything malicious and claimed the incident was merely part of the game.

“It’s really painful, but it’s part of football,” said the Stuttgart man. “Honestly, I don’t know if he did it intentionally. I haven’t seen the replay yet. All I can say is that it’s part of football.”

Pavard admitted the world champions were fortunate to escape with a draw against a Germany side determined to make up for their shock group-stage exit at the World Cup.

“We really suffered against a really good German team,” he said. “They were vengeful after their World Cup.

“I think they had more energy than us. They returned from their holidays much earlier than us. We stayed strong as a team; that’s our strength.”

Diego Maradona Appointed Manager Of Mexican Second-division Club Dorados

Diego Maradona has been appointed manager of Mexican second-division team Dorados

The club issued a short video on their social media channels with the messages “Welcome Diego,” and “Make it a 10,” the Argentina great’s shirt number as a player.

Dorados, who are based in Sinaloa state in northwest Mexico, gave no further details, Mexican newspapers said Maradona had been hired to replace Francisco Gamez.

Dorados fired Gamez earlier on Thursday after a poor start to the season that brought three points out of a possible 15. They are 13th in the 15-team league, joint bottom of the table.

The 57-year-old has had short stints coaching clubs in Argentina and the United Arab Emirates but his longest spell in charge was with Argentina, who he led at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Dorados’ goalkeeper, Gaspar Servio, welcomed Maradona’s appointment.

“That one of the greatest of all time and the top idol that we have [in Argentina] will coach us gives us pride,” Servio, from Argentina, told TyC Sports.

“We are very happy with the experience he will bring. We need someone like Diego. We found out [Thursday] through rumours but it surprised us because still had a coach. I think [Maradona] will take us where we need to go. I hope he is the person that leads us to promotion to the top flight.”

Nacho Monreal Blasts Mesut Ozil’s Critics For Inventing Stories About Him

Arsenal full-back Nacho Monreal has accused Mesut Ozil’s critics of inventing stories about him

Mesut Ozil has endured a difficult start to the season and The Arsenal boss Unai Emery has urged him to work harder in matches.

The 29-year-old often finds his passive body language interpreted as a lack of effort but Monreal leapt to his team-mate’s defence.

“People must understand that every player is completely different,” said the Spaniard. “He is like that [quiet] and 10 years ago he was the same. So you can’t expect on the pitch that he starts to fight, to talk with the referee because he never did it. He is not going to change in this case.

“The important thing is he plays at his highest level, gives a lot of assists, scores a lot of goals and basically helps the team. That’s what he knows. He doesn’t know how to go up to a player and grab him by the throat.”

The former German international was reportedly involved in a training ground bust-up with Emery after learning he would not be starting last month’s Premier League match against West Ham.

The club denied any suggestion of a disagreement and Monreal added: “People have been a bit unfair with him. He is a very famous player and obviously people love talking about him. Recently, it is always bad things. Like last time, he was sick and that’s why he didn’t play.

“People started to invent that he had a problem with the manager. It wasn’t like that. He got a cold, he was sick, that’s it. That’s why he didn’t play.”

“People started to invent that he had a problem with the manager. It wasn’t like that. He got a cold, he was sick, that’s it. That’s why he didn’t play.”

Per Mertesacker Relieved Not To Have Played More Regularly For Arsenal Last Season

Featured Image

Former Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has reiterated his relief at rarely being selected to play during his final season at the club.

Per Mertesacker, 33, retired in May to take up leading role in the Gunners’ academy

He made just 12 appearances despite being fit and available for the majority of last season

Mertesacker claimed in March that he felt physically sick before matches and how he was struggling to cope with the demands of professional football.

And on Friday he told the BBC: “Especially in my last year, I felt something and felt the pressure and it was very awkward sometimes.

“I was happy about not necessarily playing, just training was enough for me.

“Being in a career and going from highlight to highlight and playing a lot of matches you go through it and think it’s normal when you play in front of 60,000 and you almost want to vomit in front of every game.

“It’s not right playing these games to have that fear about what’s going on with me. The fact that I actually felt better after saying ‘I’m going to stop’, I had less pain.”

“Sometimes you don’t feel like doing sports or don’t feel like doing workouts [where you are] spending eight weeks together and you just don’t see your family,” he added.

“So it [football] has taken some bits and pieces as well – my health at one or two stages where you give absolutely everything and your body is just exhausted and you try to continue but your body says ‘I’m done. I need an injury I need a break.’ That’s what I’ve experienced.”

Chelsea Job Much Tougher Than Managing Napoli – Maurizio Sarri

Featured Image

Chelsea Manager Maurizio Sarri believes he has a harder job at The Blues than Carlo Ancelotti does succeeding him at Italian side Napoli.

Maurizio Sarri replaced Antonio Conte as coach at Stamford Bridge in July

The 59-year-old has made an impressive start with Chelsea, who are unbeaten after four League matches, whereas Napoli suffered a heavy 3-0 loss to Sampdoria at the weekend.

However, Sarri is fully aware that Conte secured the Premier League and FA Cup during his two-year spell in charge at Chelsea, while he failed to claim any silverware at Napoli in three seasons.

“I won nothing at Napoli,” he said. “Conte, on the other hand, won here and it’s difficult to take his place.

He added: “Here it is totally different: it is an absolute party, it is a pleasure to arrive in the stadiums and see the fans with different shirts take a beer together. I sign autographs to the fans of the opposing team on the sidelines, before and after the match. There are games with so much intensity, physicality. The English way is a different football from the Italian one, played in extraordinary stadiums.

“How do I see Italy now I live in London? Close up, full of problems. But when we are far away, there is a bit of nostalgia and something is always missing, like the food, although I’m getting used to meat and salmon here.”
