Spurs Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris Banned For 20 Months

Tottenham’s goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, who had admitted being more than twice the drink-drive limit when he was stopped sometimes ago by police in central London, has been banned from driving for 20 months with a fine of £50,000.

The 31-year-old Frenchman, who captains the north London side, admitted a charge of drink driving at Westminster magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Lloris was driving his 2018-plate Porsche Panamera along Gloucester Place, Marylebone, on August 24 when he was pulled over during a routine stop by police.

The court heard Lloris provided a sample containing 80 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit in England and Wales is 35 microgrammes.

Prosecutor Henry Fitch said police in an unmarked car spotted Lloris’ vehicle driving at 15mph in a 30mph zone.

The court heard that the goalkeeper veered his car “towards parked vehicles” before correcting himself and went through a red light.

David Sonn, defending, said the, “spectacular fall from grace” was not lost on Lloris.

“On July 15, he was arguably the proudest man on the planet (having captained France to a World Cup triumph),” Sonn was quoted as saying by the BBC.

“Just 40 days later, he was arrested. He experienced the indignity of being handcuffed and put in a police station overnight.”

Sunderland Sack Papy Djilobodji After He Comprehensively Failed A Fitness Test

Featured Image

Sunderland have sacked Papy Djilobodji after he reported late back to pre-season training and then failed a subsequent fitness test.

Sunderland had been weighing up their options regarding the defender after himself and Didier Ndong, failed to report to pre-season training following relegation to League One.

But now the Black Cats have revealed the full extent of Djilobodji’s breach of contract, confirming he was AWOL for a month having been given July off on unpaid leave to try and find a new club.

After then returning at the start of September, he failed a fitness test prompting urgent action.

The club released a statement on their website confirming the termination of the defender’s contract.

The statement read: ‘Sunderland AFC has given notice under its contract with Papy Djilobodji. Djilobodji, who was under contract to SAFC until June 2020, indicated in June 2018 that he wished to leave the club.

‘In order to facilitate that desire, the club entered into a written agreement with the player allowing him to spend the month of July on voluntary unpaid leave.

‘When that period came to an end, the player was expected either to leave for a new club – having reached a deal satisfactory to himself and SAFC – or to return in shape to play professional football.

‘Instead, he returned to Sunderland over a month later, in the first week of September, ignoring written requests for his return. On his return, he was subjected to the same fitness test that his fellow professionals had undertaken on their return. He comprehensively failed that test.

‘As a result, Sunderland AFC can confirm that it has accepted Papy Djilobodji’s repudiatory breaches of contract and notice of the same has been provided to the player.’

Zimbabwe Bans Public Gatherings

Zimbabwe Bans Public Gatherings Over Cholera

Zimbabwe on Wednesday banned public gatherings in the capital Harare following a cholera outbreak which has claimed at least 21 lives and left hundreds of people ill over the past week.

The outbreak, first detected in the township of Glen View outside Harare, has prompted the health ministry to declare an emergency in the city.

Cholera Kills 18 Persons In Borno

“In light of the declaration of the state of emergency, the police in Harare will not allow any public gatherings,” police spokeswoman Charity Charamba said in a statement.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing to members of the public to take heed of the warning and cooperate as this will assist in alleviating the continuous spread of cholera.”

The ban came ahead of a planned rally by the opposition MDC party on Saturday at which it was due to hold a mock presidential inauguration of party leader Nelson Chamisa, who it claims was denied victory in the July 30 election due to fraud.

At least 21 people, including two pupils from the same school, have died over the past week in Harare from cholera and at least 3,000 haven fallen ill from cholera and typhoid, according to the health ministry.

“We are now at 3,067 cases… The number of deaths has risen to 21,” health minister Obadiah Moyo told reporters on Tuesday.

One school was closed in Glen View.

Lack of clean water, infrastructure
Chamisa toured a health facility treating people and called on the United Nations to help contain the situation.

“It’s more than just an emergency it is a national disaster,” he said.

Britain warned prospective travellers to Harare about the cholera outbreak and urged travellers to learn to recognise symptoms of the disease.

Cholera outbreaks have occurred regularly in the city as authorities struggle to provide potable water and sanitation facilities.

Informal housing areas without running water have mushroomed and basic infrastructure has collapsed due to years of neglect.

Tests on water samples from some wells and boreholes showed the water was contaminated with cholera and typhoid-causing bacteria.

Zimbabwe, which was ruled by Robert Mugabe from independence in 1980 until his ousting last year, suffered its worst cholera outbreak in 2008.

A total of 4,000 people died and at least 100,000 people fell ill.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who succeeded Mugabe, has pledged to revive the economy and improve public services.

“To contain the outbreak and mobilise resources we have declared a state of emergency in Harare, and are working closely with our international partners,” Mnangagwa said Wednesday on Twitter.

UNICEF advised Zimbabweans to prevent the spread of cholera by regular hand-washing, drinking only safe water, washing food, cooking it throughly, and avoiding shaking hands.

With the move off, a statement from Terry read: ‘After considerable thought, I have decided to decline a contract offer from Spartak Moscow. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Spartak and wish them and their supporters well for the rest of the season.

‘They are an ambitious club and I have been very impressed with their professionalism.

‘But after assessing this move with my family, we’ve decided this is not the right move for ourselves at this time. Good luck Spartak.’

Jay Jay Okocha’s Former Club Bolton Wanderers Avoid Administration And 12-point Deduction

Featured Image

Former club of Super Eagles of Nigeria legend Jay Jay Okocha, Bolton Wanderers will not be entering administration after paying off a loan to their major creditor.

Chairman Ken Anderson announced this week that his offer to settle a £4million debt with interest was rejected by financiers BluMarble Capital Ltd.

Anderson warned the club were facing administration as a result, which would have meant a two-year transfer embargo and a points deduction of 12 points.

But the loan has now been repaid and the Championship side – currently eighth in the table – have staved off the threat of any sanctions from the EFL.

A statement from Anderson read: “Following on from all the speculation, I am pleased to confirm that the loan from Blu Marble Capital Ltd has been repaid.

“I am also pleased to be able to confirm that the loans to both PBP (Michael James) and Brett Warburton have been extended on better terms for the club and I am extremely grateful for the continued support, help and assistance of Michael and Brett.

“I was also able to reschedule and reduce a number of other club liabilities which in all have reduced future costs and liabilities by circa £1.5m and will be of great assistance to the club going forward.

As previously stated, I believe the club now has one of the lowest debt positions in the Championship.

“I am also pleased to confirm that the club did not go into administration and there are no points deductions or embargo implications.

“I fully appreciate and understand that the last couple of days have caused some consternation for you all, and I would like to apologise for that, but the whole process has been very complex and far from easy.

“We can all now put this behind us and move onwards and get fully behind the team as they look to continue their excellent start to the campaign when they return to the University of Bolton Stadium on Saturday for the game against QPR.

“I would like to thank you all for your patience and we can all look forward to a season of progress both on and off the pitch.”

Teachers Begin Indefinite Strike In Edo On Friday

Peeved by the failure of the Edo State Government to meet its demands, the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has disclosed that it will commence an indefinite strike on Friday.

The union had given the state government a 21-day ultimatum to meet its demand or face an industrial action.

However, in a statement made available to journalists in Benin on Tuesday and signed by the state Chairman, Pius Okhueleigbe, and acting Secretary, Mr Moni Modesty, the union alleged that the government had failed to meet the teachers’ demand for improved welfare.

“The union magnanimously gave another seven-day extension period to the government to meet our demand which ended 13th of September.

“And failure to meet the demand, Edo state public school teachers will commence an indefinite strike action with effect from Friday 14th,” the statement stated.

The teachers’ demands include the financial implementation of the 2013 to 2015 primary school teachers promotions as approved by the government with the arrears of last January to July inclusive as well as teachers deliberated omitted or denied  promotions by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB.

The state’s chairman of SUBEB, JoanOviawe, said the government was in discussion with the teachers to avert the planned strike.

The Premier League Is Tough – Naby Keita

Featured Image

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has admitted that “the Premier League is a tough league”, but insists he is “very motivated” to be a success in English football.

Naby Keita moved to Liverpool from RB Leipzig during the summer transfer window, and he has appeared in all four of his new team’s Premier League matches this season.

The 23-year-old, who has played in France, Austria and Germany, has said that he has felt support from ‘everybody around him’ as he targets a long career at Anfield.

“I think it’s fair to say that the Premier League is a tough league,” Keita told Liverpool’s official website. “I’m very motivated to be playing in it – it’s an attractive proposition – but I’ve been told by many people that a lot of overseas players come into the Premier League and they take time to integrate, depending on the circumstances.

“So playing in the Premier League can be difficult, but I am very motivated to play here, not just for myself and my teammates, but for the club. Everybody around me has been very supportive towards me so I am certainly giving everything I can to get settled into the team quickly.”

Toby Alderweireld Insists He Never Wanted To Leave Tottenham Hotspur

Featured Image

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has insisted that he never wanted to leave the club this summer, despite widespread reports indicating otherwise.

The Belgian international now has less than a year remaining on his contract, but he rejected reports that he was pushing to leave Spurs and insists that he was always focused on working his way back into the team.

Tinubu: What The Most Powerful Man In Babylon Must Know

Tinubu: What The Most Powerful Man In Babylon Must Know By Fredrick Nwabufo

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

I have been thinking about Jagaban, Bola Ahmed Tinubu lately. I think he deserves an encomium for tipping into the expansive shoes of the sage, Obafemi Awolowo, by forging a united bunch out of disparate broomsticks. But honestly, I do not think he has the intellectual grit, ideological purpose and discipline of the late former premier of the western region.

This piece was written by Fredrick Nwabufo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Jagaban has single-handed pulled the south-west under his suzerainty. This is no mean feat. No politician, in the present day Nigeria, has achieved this. As a matter of fact, no politician commands passionate followership or has the same clout as he does. That is why I say he deserves an encomium.  In fact, he deserves some accolades.

However, I think Jagaban also deserves a bit of cautioning. His empire has gained so much vastness, vulgarity and glamour like Babylon that he now thinks himself God.  He has erected a tower “subbing” Babel, and now plays “Bruce Almighty”.

The inexorable reality is that every empire has a date with a fall. And often, like in the days of history told, empires crash after their potentates betray a fatal flaw – hubris. Why does the picture of Xerxes, in the movie “300”, come to my mind?

Anyway, Jagaban is betraying a fatal flaw now. While speaking at the palace of Oba Jimoh Olanipekun in Osogbo, Osun, he boasted, literally, that he was richer than the state; hence his interest in a particular candidate becoming governor was not to purloin the treasury. This alone is an indictment.

Yes, is Tinubu’s statement not a self-indictment? But no one is asking questions, because it is Jagaban.

Oh! And there are reports of a company, Alpha Beta; he is allegedly linked with being involved in money laundering, tax evasion and fraud. Of course, this news will not elicit mass hysteria and outrage because Jagaban is involved.  The Jagaban of Borgu has a solid network in the media. And he holds the plug to President Buhari’s re-election ambition. No offence must come from the government or else he pulls it.

Also, there are rumours that he is angling to deracinate a governor he picked, baptised and anointed in 2015. Good. That is not my business really, because politics is governed by interest. Selfish interest, I mean. But to what end?

I believe Jagaban looks himself in the mirror every morning and says with a smirk on his face, “I am the most powerful man in Nigeria”. Yes, you are. But the strength of a powerful man is also his weakness.
Hubris!

Ambode ‘In Trouble’ As Femi Otedola ‘Accepts’ Lagos PDP Governorship Ticket

Following a report that businessman, Femi Otedola, has accepted to become the torchbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Lagos State governorship race in 2019, the second term bid of the current governor of the State Akinwunmi Ambode, might not be as easy as anticipated.

Ambode ‘Faces Impeachment’ For Declaring For Second Term

Popular celebrity publisher, Dele Momodu, yesterday disclosed that PDP has offered Otedola, who is currently on vacation the governorship ticket and he has accepted it.

Sharing the news on his verified Twitter handle (@DeleMomodu), he tweeted:

“Breaking news: Lagos 2019 promises to be interesting. PDP offers Femi Otedola governorship ticket. He’s accepted and personally confirmed to The Boss newspaper.”

The development means Otedola may likely run against Ambode, the incumbent Governor, or Jide Sanwonolu, Bola Tinubu’s favourite, one of whom is likely to emerge candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in 2019.

The development also comes a day after Ambode officially declared interest in a second term, telling supporters at Alausa:

“In these three and a half years as your Governor, I have seen visible proof that we can achieve unbelievable things when we all come together with no more than our belief in our dreams.

“We achieved because you believed. But there is still a lot more to be done. But I am not daunted. I am not tired. And I am sure you feel the same way because we all envision a better Lagos, a Lagos of our dreams.

“So, I humbly call you again, to give me your support as I seek to continue with your mandate to steer the affairs of our State. I ask you to believe again and together, let’s achieve more.”

Barely hours after Ambode’s declaration, a report emerged that there is a threat to impeach him if he does not drop his second term bid.

Evans: Lawyer To Alleged Billionaire Kidnapper Arrested In Court

Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje, the lawyer who had represented the alleged billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka, Evans, has been arrested by the Nigerian Police on Wednesday morning at the premises of the Federal High Court In Ikoyi, Lagos.

It was gathered that operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Yaba, swooped on the lawyer as he made to park his car at the court’s car park.

Ogungbeje, who was billed to appear before the vacation judge, Justice Muslim Hassan, was immediately whisked off by the policemen.

The lawyer had dumped Evans in June of this year, claiming the case exposed him to threat.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that we have fought a good fight this far despite repeated and sustained threats to my life and my defence lawyers, I dare say we have no regrets whatsoever having conducted the Criminal charges involving our client this far,” the lawyer said at the time.

It is also understood that Ogungbeje is famous for stepping in to defend controversial cases.

In April, he filed a suit asking the Federal High Court to stay proceedings on the forfeiture of $43,449,947 (about N13 billion), N23,218,000 and £27,800 (about N10.6 million) found in a flat in Ikoyi, Lagos.

During the hearing, the presiding judge, Justice Muslim Hassan, threw out Ogungbeje’s application describing him as a meddlesome interloper and a busybody whose application was strange to law.

Female Lawmakers Ban From Wearing Fake Nails, Eyelashes

There are strong indications that female lawmakers with artificial nails and false eyelashes have been banned from Tanzania’s parliament.

It was gathered that on Monday, September 10, during a House session in Dodoma, Tanzania, Speaker of the Parliament, Job Ndugai banned female Members of Parliament from entering the house with fake eyelashes and fake nails.

Tanzanian Speaker of Parliament, Job Ndugai bans eyelashes, nails .

Tanzanian Speaker of Parliament, Job Ndugai bans fake eyelashes, nails .

According to reports, the Speaker of Parliament, stated that both cosmetic trends could cause health problems.

In his words, Ndugai said, “With the powers vested in me by the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, I now ban all MPs with false eyelashes and false finger nails from stepping into Parliament.”

The Speaker further said that he currently consults with “experts” on whether to equally ban the use of excessive makeup in the house. That of course would arouse the question of what is, “excessive.”

This is coming barely a day after Tanzanian President, John Magufuli begged women to stop using birth control mechanisms as he feels the country needs more people — in a world where countries aim to reduce or control population.

His words: “Women can now give up contraceptive methods” in a country the BBC says, “has a population of around 53 million people, with 49% of them living on less than $2 (£1.50) a day,” and where, “on average, a woman in Tanzania has more than five children, among the highest rates in the world.”

“The outrageous comments were made at a rally in northern Meatu district of Tanzanian where Mangufuli says the use of contraceptives were lazy. The Citizen quotes him that, “They do not want to work hard to feed a large family. And that is why they opt for births controls and end up with one or two children only.”

“I have travelled to Europe and elsewhere and have seen the harmful effects of birth control. Some countries are now facing declining population growth.”

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on his intention to surrender himself to the agency on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

The governor, in the letter he personally signed, said he was notifying the agency of his decision to make himself available to the EFCC “to clarify issue(s) or answer questions on issues within my knowledge.”

In the letter dated September 10, and addressed to the chairman of the EFCC, governor Fayose stated that his desire to submit to the commission was hinged “on several and serial actions of your commission for some time now, including but not limited to freezing of my accounts and attempts to secure temporary forfeiture of my properties.”

According to him, this is an “indicative of the commission’s desire to have me clarify some issues or answer some questions but for the immunity I enjoy under Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution as the sitting governor of Ekiti State.”

“I wish to inform you that my term of office pursuant to which I enjoy immunity against investigation and prosecution under the above provision shall lapse by effluxion of time on Monday, 15th October, 2018.

“As a responsible citizen of our great country, who believes in the rule of law, I wish to inform you of my decision to make myself available in your office on Tuesday, 16th October 2018 at 1pm to clarify issues or answer questions within my knowledge.

“Kindly confirm the suitability of the above date or indicate by return, the commission’s convenient date.”

A stamp on a copy of the letter, entitled “Notification of my decision to make myself available in your office to clarify issue(s) or answer questions on issues within my knowledge”, indicated that it was received in the office of the EFCC chairman on Tuesday, September 11, 2018.

Fayose has been in a battle of wits with the anti-graft agency and had also been in and out of courts with the commission over his personal and state’s finances.

He is expected to hand over government to Dr Kayode Fayemi, when he completes his tenure on October 16.

Atiku Reveals Why Buhari Is Nigeria’s Most Incompetent Leader Ever

An erstwhile Vice-President Abubakar Atiku has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to retain significant individuals in his party was a sign of weakness and lack of leadership, adding that “never in the history of Nigeria has a more incompetent person served in the chambers of the exalted office of the President.”

Ambode ‘Faces Impeachment’ For Declaring For Second Term

The ex-VP, through his campaign organisation, said his attempt to come to power “is to clean the mess that Buhari would leave which has resulted in job loss, poor economy and ranking of the country as one of the poorest.”

President Buhari had on Tuesday lashed out at defectors from the All Progressives Congress, describing them as weak and selfish politicians.

Reacting to Buhari’s comment which was made while receiving the All Progressive Congress nomination forms, the spokesperson for the Atiku Campaign Organisation, Segun Sowunmi, said:

“Never in the history of Nigeria has a more incompetent person served in the chambers of the exalted office of the President. No President of Nigeria, politics apart, will speak in such manner. The fact is that freedom of association is guaranteed by all the United Nations’ conventions and the constitution of our country.

“That Buhari has not been able to provide leadership and keep high-network individuals in the APC is to his own weakness and a question of his lack of capacity to keep Nigerians together. We are in the campaign and we are on the ballot. Atiku is attempting to become the President to clean the mess that Buhari caused in our country.

“Buhari has made many Nigerians lose their jobs and our country has become one of the poorest countries in the world. He has divided the country and people cannot move freely. He has made a mess of the economy.

“Therefore, we take his comment as not possibly referring to us. He should speak to issues, development, job creation, restructuring and so on. Obviously, these things he cannot do.”

Barnes: Klopp Under No Pressure To Deliver Trophy For Liverpool

Featured Image

Liverpool club legend, John Barnes believes Jurgen Klopp is under no pressure to win a trophy for Liverpool.

The Reds finished 25 points behind Manchester City last season and reached the final of the Champions League.

Barnes would rather Klopp reduces the gap to City than win a trophy this season.

“Well, would we rather get silverware and win the League Cup and finish 25 points behind City or finish second behind City by three points and not win silverware?” he said to the Star.

“That for me is more important. That shows progress.

“That shows that you’re going to be consistently challenging at the highest level for the league and that will mean they’ll be challenging in cup competitions.

“So the whole idea of needing silverware, for me, is not as important as getting much closer to the top.

“Because if you’re much closer to the top of the Premier League, that means that you’re consistently winning matches and playing well which would help you in cup competitions as well.

“Yes, it would be nice to win a trophy, but I’d rather not win a trophy and finish second, seven or eight points off the top.”
