EFCC Finally Reacts To ‘Freezing Of Davido, Adeleke’s Bank Accounts’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finally reacted to reports making the rounds on the internet that it has frozen the accounts of musician, David Adeleke, aka Davido and that of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke.

Nigerians React As EFCC ‘Freezes’ Davido’s Bank Account

In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, the commission said there was no truth in the claims being circulated by the Peoples Democratic Party and some politically motivated elements.

The statement read, “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has been drawn to media publications alleging that it had frozen the account of Senator Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the September 22, 2018 Osun State governorship election and those of his family members, including the musician, David Adeleke.

“The Commission calls on members the public to disregard the report, which is patently false and contrived to dress the agency with a partisan garb in the unfolding political contest in Osun State.

“For the avoidance of doubt, at no time did the EFCC place a freeze order on any account belonging to members of the Adeleke family.

“The purported freeze order which has unfortunately been amplified by pliable sections of the media without any attempt at confirmation is alien to the Commission and another example of fake news.

“The EFCC frowns at the seeming attempts by faceless forces to drag it into the political fray and, for the umpteenth time, restates its neutrality as a law enforcement organization that is sworn to uphold the law at all times, irrespective whose interest is at stake.”

EFCC Blasts UK Bank HSBC For Predicting Buhari’s Failure

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has slammed HSBC, a prominent bank in the UK, days after it predicted that Nigeria’s current economic struggles look set to continue if President Muhammadu Buhari wins a second term in office.

According to a recent report, the bank predicted that if the President wins his second term bid, it would “stunt the economy”.

The bank had said a second term for Mr Buhari “raises the risk of limited economic progress and further fiscal deterioration, prolonging the stagnation of his first term, particularly if there is no move towards completing reform of the exchange rate system or fiscal adjustments that diversify government revenues away from oil.”

However, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, on Saturday criticised the HSBC report, also accusing the bank of money laundering, with emphasis on $100 million Abacha Loot.

Also, in a post titled ‘The Story of HSBC’, the anti-graft agency listed similar allegations made by Shehu.

The anti-graft agency took to its social media accounts to say that the multinational banking group, which is Europe’s largest by total asset, was synonymous with money laundering.

The EFCC said it will not “rest on its oars” till all the funds allegedly in possession of the bank are repatriated back to Nigeria.

“HSBC Bank plc is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. HSBC’s international network comprises around 7,500 offices in over 80 countries and territories in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa,” the post read.

“Since inception, HSBC is synonymous with money laundering and has paid billions of US Dollars in fines across the world.

“In Nigeria, the bank laundered more than $100 million for the late dictator, late Gen Sani Abacha in Jersey, Paris, London, Switzerland and Geneva. The Bank is also involved with laundering proceeds of corruption for over 50 Nigerians including a Nigerian serving Senator.

“Part of Abacha Assets yet to be recovered are: $12 million in HSBC Fund Admin Ltd with account number S-104460 in Jersey; $20 million in HSBC Life (Europe) with account number 37060762 in U.K and $1. 6 million in HSBC Bank plc with account number 38175076 in U. K.

“We shall not rest on our oars until every penny belonging to the FRN is repatriated to Nigeria as to improve the lives of the people.”

Nigerian Prophet Reveals Who Will Defeat Buhari In 2019

The founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has declared Senate President, Bukola Saraki, as the candidate that will unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 Presidential election.

According to Ayodele, Saraki when eventually elected would lead Nigeria for four years and would turn around the fortunes of the country.

In an interview with Daily Sun, the cleric said:

“Saraki will rule for just four years and put the country in order. I am talking as a prophet of God. I said in 2015 that so many things will happen in Buhari administration and it happened. If PDP puts their house in order; that is what will defeat any party. If PDP wants to do well, let them be united, and know what they are doing and do the right thing. I don’t belong to any party.”

“I am not giving any opinion; there is poverty everywhere and because of this, people will vote against their conscience because this is the election of the highest bidder. People will not want to vote for the people they want, but they will vote for a temporal bail out, and that will not settle the case.”

On the spate of defection in Nigeria’s political scene, Primate Ayodele said:

“Most people who are defecting will still land in jail because judgment is coming to all Nigerian leaders. Those who are defecting now are not seeing the consequences ahead of them. The forefathers of this nation are not asleep; they want to revenge, we have done a lot of blood sacrifice and that is why things are happening like this. It is politics everywhere. They are just doing packaging; nobody is talking about anything that is happening to Nigerians, or how they feel.”

Samklef Reveals How He Overcame Depression, Talks Akon And Wizkid

Samklef Reveals How He Overcame Depression, Talks Akon And Wizkid

As the gale of depression continues to dominate the news, popular music producer and singer, Samklef, has revealed that he has also had his fair share of the emotional turmoil.

Speaking with The Punch on Sunday, the ace music producer, said:

“Entertainers are human beings too and we also go through tough times. When the issue of Harrysong came up, I understood his plight because I’ve also been in a similar situation.”

On what triggered the emotional turmoil, Samklef said:

“It has to do with my upbringing. I lost my father at a very early age and I didn’t grow up with my parents. Imagine an 11-year-old boy, who had to struggle for everything in life, but he was eventually able to turn all the negativity into something positive.”

“That is my story and it still affects me till date because I’m very emotional. Till now, I don’t like playing games because I would feel very bad if I lose. I always like to win.”

On how he overcame it, he said:

“Whenever I’m feeling down, I listen to soul-lifting songs such as those by Don Moen and other inspirational singers. That’s my reset button. If you ask anybody around me, they know there’s no dull moment with me. I always stay away from negative vibes because I’m very emotional.”

The singer further maintained that he had never considered committing suicide despite the low moments in his life.

“I have never considered suicide. I have been through worse things and I always survived. At the age of 14, I was on the streets of Lagos Island living alone. I realise that everything I’m going through is a phase. There are times that one would feel that things are not working out and that happens to everybody. Once something is not working out for me, I move on to the next thing,” he said.

Dismissing insinuations that his recording deal with Akon’s Konvict Music had not been favourable to him, Samklef said:

“Everything is fine and my album will be out soon. People, who feel Akon has not been supporting my career, should ask him if that is so. We have a perfect deal and I’m okay with it. Things may be rough at the beginning but everything will take shape eventually.”

On his relationship with Wizkid, he said:

“I wouldn’t actually say we fell out. It is just that everybody has moved on and I am happy for his progress. He is making everybody proud. Success is not about how much you have but about how much impact you have on people’s lives. We recorded some songs together in 2016 which we didn’t release and we might decide to put them out later. Personally, I have paid my dues in the industry and I am happy about that. People, especially haters, will always talk. If you’re not important, nobody will talk about you.”

EFCC Orders Customs To Monitor Fayose – Arrest Him If He Tries To Flee Nigeria

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has directed the Nigeria customs service to place Ayodele Fayose, outgoing governor of Ekiti, on its watch list.

In a letter dated September 12, and addressed to the comptroller-general of customs, the anti-corruption agency asked the customs to beam its searchlight on Fayose, saying he may be planning to flee the country.

EFCC Orders Customs To Monitor FayoseThe letter which was signed by the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, read in parts:

Request for Watch-Listing of Persons.

Case Of Conspiracy, ABUSE OF OFFICE, CORRUPTION, THEFT AND Money Laundering

The under listed suspect is under investigation in connection with the above mentioned offences and there is a reasonable suspicion suggesting that he may likely leave the country either through the land borders, airports or seaports in order to evade investigation. Hence, you are kindly requested to watch-list him and arrest him.”

EFCC Orders Customs To Monitor FayoseReacting to the directive, the customs instructed all zonal coordinators, area commanders and comptrollers to monitor Fayose.

“Consequently, you are requested to monitor the subject and report to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission through the provided contact details if sighted,” the customs wrote in a letter dated September 14.

Bear in mind that the governor had last week written the Commission, telling it that he will surrender himself to the agency on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

Fayose has been in a battle of wits with the anti-graft agency and had also been in and out of courts with the commission over his personal and state’s finances.

He is expected to hand over government to Dr Kayode Fayemi, when he completes his tenure on October 16.

Nigeria Prepares To Recruit 5,000 Unemployed Nigerians for BRISIN implementation

The Federal Government has disclosed plans to recruit 5,000 unemployed Nigerians in the Federal Capital Territory under the Basic Registry and Information System in Nigeria  scheme.

Dr Anthony Uwa, the Head of BRISIN implementation in Nigeria, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja that more Nigerians would be recruited after the pilot phase.

NAN reports that BRISIN is an integrated system for the collection, storage and distribution of information to support the management of the economy.

Uwa said the system aimed at bringing developmental and economic growth in the country through the use of data collection of people and other relevant information.

“The data received will be used to plan for the management of the nation’s resources,’’ he said.

NAN reports that the project was initiated by the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration, while the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration inaugurated a Technical Committee for its implementation.

According to Uwa, since BRISIN covers all aspect of the economy, the recruitment is not restricted to a particular field or discipline.

He however, said the implementation would commence with the social welfare, an aspect of the project, with special attention to disability data bank.

“We are giving attention to social welfare and building the disability data bank to attain the actual number of disabled people in the FCT.

“We are recruiting 5,000 people out of which 200 will be sent to Italy for training on various aspect of the project and they will be the trainees’ trainers.

“They will be trained mainly on the use of data on every aspect of economic management with attention to health, education, economic monitoring, fiscal and revenue control, migration and human trafficking.

“BRISIN recruitment cuts across all cadres, from school certificate to PHD holders so the recruitment is not restricted.

“The recruitment will be published on e-transact by next week, the portal will be opened for about six weeks and the public will be sensitised on how to access and fill the form through the portal.

“Also, the 5000 people we are recruiting does not mark the end of BRISIN recruitment but just a pilot phase, as we start from FCT we will train those to work in other states,’’ Uwa said.

On the funding, he said a budget had already been allocated to the project but being as it was small, a BRISIN international Foundation was established to help source fund to supplement government effort.

“The budget is small so we have to look for donors from well-meaning Nigerians, corporate organisations and international donors so we do not depend on government funds alone.

“With this foundation, we want to see those claiming to love Nigeria come and donate generously to the implementation.

“When this is fully implemented, it will reduce the risk of Nigerians that engage on illegal migration, so this foundation is as important as BRISIN itself.

He urged Nigerians not to consider the move as a political affair being that it was an election year, but see it as a dream come true for Nigeria to attain the height it ought to have regarding job availability.

According to him, considering the economic monitoring, a lot of people will be involved, so it will create jobs and also a multiplying effect of job creation in the nation.

Digne: I Had To Quit Barcelona For My Career

Featured Image

Lucas Digne has hailed the quality at Barcelona and the class of Lionel Messi, but says he had to leave the club for Everton, because of his career.

The France international was snapped up by Barcelona from PSG and played at Camp Nou for two years.

Digne improved his game at Barcelona, but a lack of game time saw him dump the La Liga giants for Everton.

Digne added on his decision to link up with Everton: “Of course, Barca is the biggest club in the world – and everybody knows that. But I came to Everton because I felt there was a very good project here.

“I had such a good feeling about the club that I said to Barcelona, ‘Please let me leave to go to join Everton because it’s the best thing for me and my career.’

“In the beginning, they didn’t want to sell me. But when the coach Marco Silva called me I had such a good feeling. I knew I wanted to come Goodison Park.

“Now I am here, I want to win a lot of games and, if it’s possible, a trophy too.”

Ozil On Bergkamp Comparisons: I Am Mesut Ozil And I Am Not Done

Featured Image

Mesut Ozil has responded to comparisons with Dennis Bergkamp and aims to claim legendary status his own way.

The former Germany international is known for making play easy with his forward thinking and assist, falling into the same sphere as the iconic Dutch.

Bergkamp won three titles with Arsenal, scoring 120 goals and Ozil is keen on becoming a legend without being compared.

He told the club’s official website: “The fans have backed me ever since I arrived five years ago and because of that, I’ve been able to play in my preferred style.

“I always want to control the game, give assists and help my team. It was like that with me from the start. In my position you have many possibilities playing forward. You can demand the balls, make telling passes or score yourself.

“I’ve been told so many times over the years that this is how Bergkamp played. Of course that makes me proud and it is an honour to be compared with him. Bergkamp is a living legend at Arsenal and he was an amazing football player.

“But I do not want to compare myself with anybody. I have my own style and I’ve had it since I was a kid. I am proud of these comparisons, but I am Mesut Ozil and I’m not finished yet.”

He added: “Most kids only enjoy scoring goals but ever since I was young, I’ve always loved to give assists.

“Why? It’s simple really. Through giving an assist, your friend can score and you help your team. Whenever I receive the ball, I always think offensively so I can pick out chances to score a goal or assist someone. That’s why it’s normal for me to always get the ball and play it forwards.

“In my opinion, a creative player should always have fun on the pitch and should trust their playing style in order to help the team. I’ve been playing this way my whole life, which is why I still enjoy giving my team-mates assists to this day.”

I Held Talks With Tottenham Before I Joined Liverpool – Georginio Wijnaldum

Featured Image

Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed that he held talks with Tottenham before deciding to join Liverpool in 2016.

Georginio Wijnaldum scored 11 goals from 38 outings during his first season in the Premier League, and Newcastle United’s relegation led to the Magpies cashing in on the Dutchman.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a successful two years at Anfield, but the player has suggested that his career could have taken a different path.

Wijnaldum told The Telegraph: ” I met [Mauricio] Pochettino when I left Newcastle. I just felt Liverpool wanted to come to an agreement quickly.

“Tottenham have shown over the years the quality of their players and manager. I see Tottenham as a team like us, wanting to play good football. They are always looking for solutions in the game and play as we do.”

I Need To Improve From The Penalty Spot – Lionel Messi

Featured Image

Lionel Messi acknowledged that his disappointing record from the penalty spot is something he must continue to work on.

Messi, 31, missed four of the eight penalties he took last season for club and country, including one against Iceland for Argentina at the World Cup.

In total, he has missed 24 penalties during his career, and he even handed spot-kick duties to Luis Suarez in Barcelona’s win over Huesca before the international break despite being one goal away from a hat trick.

“I would like to be more effective from the penalty spot,” Messi told Catalunya Radio. “But it’s difficult to work on penalties. It’s not the same taking them in training as it is in a game. You can have an idea in your head or something you have worked on, but it’s more difficult than it seems.

“The goalkeeper has a lot to do with it, too. If they guess right, they save it. But it’s obvious that I’d like to get better at taking penalties.”

However, while Messi has struggled from 12 yards in recent years, other areas of his game have improved.

“I’m most proud of how my final pass has improved,” he said. “In the last year, I think I have developed a lot when it’s come to setting up chances, whether they’ve ended up in goals or not. In that sense, I have grown a lot.

“I’ve also improved at taking free kicks a lot, even with my right foot. I am always trying to learn and improve every day.”

Messi, who has played as a winger and a false nine in the past, said he is happiest in the position he is now in — starting on the right but dropping deeper to get on the ball.

“It’s normal that your game evolves,” he said. “When I made my debut I was 17. I played in a different position and in a different way back then. Football has changed since, as has my way of playing and moving around the pitch.

“I like where I play now the most. Teams sit deep and put a lot of people in the middle, so it’s easier getting the ball a little deeper and coming inside from further out. Moving to the wing means that a lot of the time, the full-back doesn’t know what they’re meant to do. In the middle, it’s harder to get the ball, because there are fewer spaces and a lot of bodies.”

Mourinho Jokes, Smalling’s Hair My Only Issue

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho has praised Chris Smalling’s recent form, but said he is not impressed with the defender’s hairstyle.

The England international centre-back scored a brilliant goal in the 2-1 win over Watford, to end the host’s 100% start to the league.

Smalling was also a good match for Deeney, keeping the Watford attacker from performing at top form.

“He was good, the only thing I don’t like from Chris at this moment is his haircut, but I am nobody to tell him that,” Mourinho joked in his post-match news conference.

“But he’s playing really well, also Victor [Lindelof]. And I repeat, Marouane [Fellaini] is really important for them in two difficult matches, matches of two-against-two, because Burnley and Watford play two strikers, two powerful strikers.

“They can hold the ball, they can make runs, they are good in the air, they are physical, clever, so I think these three guys [Smalling, Lindelof and Fellaini] were very important for us today again, and when a central defender can score a goal, even better.”

“We made defensive mistakes against Brighton and against Tottenham,” Mourinho said. “Against Brighton we didn’t deserve to win that match, but against Tottenham I think we did deserve to win it.

“But six goals and defensive mistakes, and then we go to two matches away – difficult matches, different stadiums, Burnley, Watford – and I felt that my central defenders they needed, especially in this moment of a bit of instability, they needed somebody to support and to give them the first wall; physicality.

“But Marouane is giving us more than that. He is giving us that, but he’s giving us also quality and simplicity in his football. He’s playing simple.

“He’s playing simple and well. So I’m really happy. I’m really happy with Marouane.”

Marcelo: Fans Don’t Miss Only Ronaldo

Featured Image

Real Madrid defender, Marcelo believes Cristiano Ronaldo is not the only star the club misses.

Ronaldo, who is the leading goalscorer at the Bernabeu switched to Juventus in the summer, ending his nine-year stay with Madrid.

Madrid started the season well, dropping points for the first time in the draw against Athletic Bilbao.

Asked if Madrid missed five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo, left-back Marcelo told reporters: “I think supporters also often remember Raul, Zidane… Not only Cristiano.”

“The draw is a bit disappointing,” Marcelo added. “We were hoping for a fairer outcome, which would have been to win the game.

“We gave it our all to do so and we improved in the second half but we have to move on from this game and think about the next. We had a lot of the ball and created chances but it just wouldn’t go in for us. We’ve got a fantastic team, we played well, but we couldn’t win the game.

“We didn’t want to drop any points here. We also lacked a bit of patience. After going behind, we tried to get on top quickly, but that’s the way things go in football. We came very close to getting the three points. We’re firing on all cylinders right now.”

Messi Eager To Improve Penalty Efficiency

Barcelona and Argentina talisman, Lionel Messi has pointed out one aspect of his play he will like to improve, his efficiency from the penalty spot.

The five-time ballon d’or winner is considered the best to ever play the game, winning 33 trophies already in his career.

However, Messi is not all that satisfied with his play, as he wants to improve his penalty.

Messi, who missed a spot-kick against Iceland at the World Cup in Russia, told Catalunya Radio prior to Saturday’s 2-1 La Liga win over Real Sociedad: “I would like to be more effective from the penalty spot.
