Real Madrid ‘Better’ Without Ronaldo – Bale

Gareth Bale has won four Champions Leagues in five years at Real Madrid, but believes the Spanish giants can be even better in their quest for a 14th European crown despite the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bale has shone in the spotlight since Ronaldo’s departure for Juventus, scoring in all of Real’s opening three La Liga wins and providing the equaliser for Isco in a 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

Watch Video: Ronaldo Scores First Competitive Goal For Juventus

“Obviously it’s going to be a little different from having such a big player there,” Bale told British newspaper the Daily Mail.

“It’s maybe a bit more relaxed, yes. I suppose there is more of a team, more working as one unit rather than one player.”

Fired by his anger at being left out of the starting line-up in Zinedine Zidane’s last match in charge of Madrid, Bale came off the bench to score twice in last season’s Champions League final to beat Liverpool 3-1.

However, it is Ronaldo’s goals that have led Real to so much success on the continent in recent times.

The Portuguese has been the competition’s top scorer for the past six seasons.

But ahead of their Champions League opener against last season’s semi-finalists Roma on Wednesday, Bale insists Real can be even better this season.

Marcelo: Fans Don’t Miss Only Ronaldo

“We can be even better again,” he added. “Another start and another challenge. We’re ready for it.”

The strained relationship between Bale and Zidane may have led to the Welshman looking for an exit this summer had the French coach not decided to bow out after winning a third straight Champions League in just two and a half years in charge.

Bale avoided the question of whether new boss Julen Lopetegui is a better manager than the French great, but accepts Lopetegui’s command of English has made it easier to communicate.

“Obviously it helps,” said Bale. “In Spanish I can talk but maybe not go into that amount of detail with them that I would need to.”

Sacked Workers Get N86.7Billion From PenCom

PenCom releases N86.7bn to over 275,000 sacked workers

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) said it had released N86.7 billion to sacked workers of various companies who participated in the Contributory Pension Scheme.

Acting Director-General, PenCom, Mrs Aisha Dahir-Umar, who disclosed this on Monday in Lagos, said the amount was for the settlement of 275,172 disengaged workers.

She said the figure represented the total paid from 2004, when the CPS came into effect, to June 2018.

Dahir-Umar also said the amount was about one per cent of the N8.23 trillion pension assets.

The acting director-general noted that loss of jobs in both public and private sectors have been on the rise since the recession because employers want to control expenses.

She said in order to fulfil its promise, the commission had allowed the sacked workers access 25 per cent of their pension contributions, especially if they were unable to get new jobs.

“The lean prospect of finding a new job after the loss of an earlier job was responsible for increase in demand to access 25 per cent of pension contributions.

“The PRA 2014 allows contributors, under the age of 50 years, who were disengaged from work and were unable to secure another job within four months of disengagement, to access 25 per cent of their respective Retirement Savings Accounts.

“The commission also recently reduced the assessment time after disengagement to four months from six months,” Dahir-Umar said.

The acting director-general said in the second quarter of 2018 about 12,854 workers have been disengaged.

She, however, said the disengaged workers have been able to access N5.6 billion from the pension assets within the timeframe.

“Of the entire disengaged workers who accessed their pension contributions, about 93 per cent were from the private sector.

“Some of the beneficiaries invested the money in business ideas in order to be self-employed.

“Others used it to meet their more immediate financial needs,” she said.

‘Who Am I To Speak After Jagaban?’ — Says Ambode At Launch Of Jim Ovia’s Book

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State left the audience laughing after he acknowledged Bola Tinubu, a National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with a light-hearted remark, during the launch of ‘Africa Rise and Shine’, a book by Jim Ovia.

Tinubu and Ambode were guests at the launch of ‘Africa, Rise and Shine’; a book written by Jim Ovia, businessman and founder of Zenith bank.

At the ongoing event at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre, Lagos, Ambode was invited to speak immediately after Tinubu and the former acknowledged the political prowess of APC godfather, who is fondly referred to as ‘The Jagaban’ by admirers.

Upon mounting the podium, Ambode acknowledged the dignitaries, saying he was not prepared to give a speech.

“Actually, I didn’t prepare to come and say anything here… And who am I to speak after the Jagaban has spoken?’ Ambode asked.

The duo are reportedly not the best of friends in recent weeks.

Banks To Pay N10,000 Fine If Money Transfer Exceeds 4 Minutes – CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released stiff regulations that would henceforth make it compulsory for deposit money banks and other financial service providers in the country to return failed transactions into the account of its customer under the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) within 10 minutes or face severe sanctions.

Nigerian Prophet Reveals Who Will Defeat Buhari In 2019

In one of the regulations, the apex bank stated that delayed application of inward NIP into beneficiary’s accounts beyond four minutes would attract a penalty fee of N10,000 per item.

It made this known in a circular, ‘Circular on the regulation on instant inter-bank electronic funds transfer services in Nigeria’ issued to all deposit money banks, microfinance banks, other financial institutions, mobile money operators, development finance institutions, payment service providers and other stakeholders.

The CBN stated, “The sanctions above and any other prescribed in the Nigeria Bankers’ Clearing System rules or any amendment thereto, shall apply.”

An electronic funds transfer or an NIP, according to the apex bank, happens between two distinct entities when delivery from the sending entity to the receiving entity takes place within one minute (60 seconds), while a payments system where delivery to the receiving entity occurs beyond one minute is considered to be an ACH system.

The bank said any failed instant payment transaction not reversed into the customer’s account within 24 hours, based on the complaint of the sender and/or beneficiary will attract a fine of N10,000.

According to the letter signed by ‘Dipo Fatokun, CBN’s director, banking and payments system department, the regulation will be effective from October 2, 2019.

EFCC Blasts UK Bank HSBC For Predicting Buhari’s Failure

According to the document, on an occasion where a sending entity erroneously sends value contrary to the customer’s instructions due to wrong account number, wrong amount, duplication among others to a receiving entity and requested the reversal in writing within 14 working days of the transaction, the receiving entity should oblige within one business day without recourse to the customer (beneficiary) of the receiving entity provided funds are available.

An automatic indemnity would be inferred against the sending entity making the reversal request.

“MFM General Overseer Dr Dk Olukoya Did Not Send Me To Sowore For Any Reason” – Dr Akinloye

Featured Image
The General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, Dr DK Olukoya was alleged to have offered to fund the presidential campaign of Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore in the upcoming 2019 general elections. These allegations have been strongly denied.

According to a member of the church, Dr Aaron Akinloye, Dr Olukoya did not send him to Sowore, for any reason. In a recent video that has been circulating for some days now, Sowore was seen addressing a group of people with wrong information on a Maryland US lawsuit that had been won by MFM in a US court, further more claiming that the MFM general overseer sent someone to him for a meeting, as well as offered to bankroll his political ambition.

Dr Akinloye who met with Sowore claims the meeting was about more private matters and he was in no position to undertake the alleged assignment. Akinloye took to nairaland to refute these claims, ‘’I Dr Aaron Akinloye have never said that the General Overseer sent me to you. You would recall that we were talking about UNILAG Alumni when you showed interest in the development of the school. Please, be very careful with the way you spread unconfirmed news. Mr Sowore, let me ask you, on what capacity would the G.O have sent me to you? I am not his media person. Please, be careful the way you are going about this.”

To further exonerate himself from Mr Sowore’s allegation, Dr Akinloye added, “In fact, Sowore needs help. He needs plenty of prayers. Does he think he can sit down somewhere and begin to confuse the whole world? People that know him should call him to order. Somebody who said he was ready to confess his sins before the man of God. Sowore, we know your history while in Unilag anyways. I am not surprised. Why am I even disturbing myself over your cantankerous attitude?”

He added that Sowore’s claims that Dr D.K Olukoya offering to finance his political campaign was a mere media stunt to get attention, stating that the G.O neither gets involved in politics nor does he know about Sowore’s political ambition. “Sowore what is your problem? When did I tell you that the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries would like to finance your campaign? You must be out of your mind. The man of God who doesn’t get involved in politics. Does he even know that you are contesting for anything? If you are looking for attention, you won’t get it. I strongly advise you to desist from your antics, particularly the way you are dragging me into this mess. If you fail to desist from slandering my name, I will take a legal action against you.”

Harry Kane Denies Reports Claiming He Is Fatigued

Featured Image

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has denied reports that he is fatigued after he failed to score against Liverpool on Saturday.

Questions were raised over Harry Kane’s workload during the World Cup this summer and, despite Kane winning the Golden Boot at the tournament, those concerns have extended into the new domestic season.

Kane has now gone 249 minutes without a goal following a busy year for club and country

“People are always going to look for stuff, especially when you are a big part of the team and someone who is there to get the goals. As a team we can all do better and as the striker you get spoken about more, but I feel sharp and fit and if I wasn’t the manager would not be picking me,” Kane told reporters.

“He believes in me, I believe in myself and hopefully I can score a couple of goals on Tuesday and it will be put to bed. I said in regard to signing players the gaffer believed we had a strong squad and he did not want to sign payers for the sake of it. It showed huge trust in the players and we have to repay it.

“Energy wise there was no fatigue but it was not good enough with the ball. We will bounce back – through the season we are one of the fittest squads and we will continue to be this year.”

Bernardo Silva: I Expected Easier Second Season

Featured Image

Man City midfielder, Bernardo Silva has credited a greater confidence and a chance to settle, for having a better start to this season.

The Portugal international joined City from Monaco last season for a reported fee of  £44 million.

Bernardo only started 15 of the 35 games he played last season, but has been instrumental to four of their five wins so far.

“The second season is always easier than the first one. When you change it’s always more difficult. You have to adapt to the way your team plays, you have to adapt to your team-mates, to the league, to the referees,” he said.

“Obviously I have more confidence, I feel better with the team and I hope I can do better than last season.

“I’m happy because I’m helping the team and that I’m feeling well, I just hope that I can continue this way.

“I can play either in the centre or wide, I can do whatever the manager thinks is best for the team. It depends on the games, I feel comfortable both ways.

“It was a great start for them [Chelsea and Liverpool], for us as well even though we drew one game.

“It’s still the beginning, a lot of games to play, we’ll see what happens but we want to try and win the Premier League.”

Foster: De Gea Is The Messi Of Goalkeepers

Featured Image

Ben Foster of Watford has described Manchester United goalie, David De Gea as the Lionel Messi of goalkeepers.

United ended Watford’s unbeaten run with a 2-1 away win, producing a stellar performance.

De Gea was criticised for his poor outing in the World Cup, but pulled off impressive saves to keep United in it.

Former United keeper Foster, who left Old Trafford in 2010, likened De Gea to Barcelona superstar and five-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi.

“He is the Messi of goalkeeping. He has been the best goalkeeper in the world for years,” Foster said. “He is absolutely brilliant now. Some of the saves he makes at really critical times are just breathtaking.

“He does it all the time. It’s almost like he is not even bothered either! It would be so nice to pull those saves off, get up and it’s almost like he just wants to go home. He can’t be bothered!

“But seriously, he is brilliant. A top goalie and if any young goalie out there wants to learn how to be a goalkeeper watch David De Gea. He is world class.

“I think the thing with David is that because he is so natural, from what I hear as well he is not a great trainer. Training doesn’t do it for him.

“But three o’clock, the adrenaline rush and what comes with that is what turns him on. I think that’s something that you can’t really teach. He’s got the game management, the game nous of what to do at any given time and when it happens.”
