Unai Emery’s Pre-match Press Conference Ahead Of Premier League Match Vs Watford

Featured Image

On keeping the squad focused after winning six games in a row

We’re going to continue working on our ideas with our work every day and also the focus is only on the match tomorrow against Watford. Each match is very difficult and we are also looking at our game against Brentford on Wednesday for this game.

Against Watford is the same, we will have the same focus, the same ideas and the same preparation so we can give the best performance. We are working in this direction.

On how he assesses September’s results

Thinking each match like our mentality is the focus. We’ve used different players but not for different competitions because we are playing three matches in a week and we need to use them to have the best performance quality and individually also.

My first idea is to be very demanding of myself and ourselves to have the best preparation individually, and if they are playing well we will continue to give them chances, but keep thinking about our performance. We need to think to win each match.

On how is enjoying life at Arsenal

I am enjoying it because I love my work and when I can explain my work with the players, they are responding as I want and also with every match with a good result, like the last matches, I am happy. For me, it’s a very good experience at the moment.

There are still many matches, many days and I hope many years for continuing to improve here with my experience and my knowledge. But now, at the moment, I think the club is giving me a lot of positive things.

I am working every day with the players with a very big commitment and my demands are very great, very big and also my challenge here too. I want to share with the players and with the club also, my challenge to learn and to improve together.

On what he doesn’t like about England

I was born in the north of Spain, with the rain. Then I lived a lot in Spain, with the sun. I love the sun a lot. But also, we need the rain. Maybe if it was raining less, it’d be better.

On playing with Javi Gracia in Spain

In 1995/96, in Real Sociedad for one year. I knew him there, as a player and teammate with me. As a coach he’s very competitive. He is improving and he is growing up in football with this mentality. He’s very competitive and here, I think Watford is starting the season very well because they are playing very well.

Tomorrow is, for us, a big challenge to overtake him in the table and win against him. But I know before that it’s a very difficult match and for them also, it’s one very, very big challenge.

We are excited and I think they are excited for the 90 minutes we are going to play tomorrow.

On whether he considers Aaron Ramsey important

For me, every player is very important. With their relation with the team. I considered each player, his space, an important space in the squad

On whether he has told the board he wants Aaron to stay

There are three elements, three aspects. One is the player and also the player with their family and representatives. The other is the club and the other is the squad. My focus is always on the team.

My focus is preparing with the players and only thinking about the match tomorrow.

Each player has individual aspects to work or to do or to speak with the club or with the team, but my aspect for the focus, only to think, is the matches and preparing for the matches and to speak with the players if they are thinking and are very concentrated on work for giving us the best performance and to help the collective performance.

On Joachim Low being upset that Mesut Ozil didn’t speak to him this week – and whether he spoke with Ozil himself

It’s one decision that is very, very individual. I respect his decision to play or not play with the national team. But it’s the same, like when I speak

I want only their focus for our match and for the match tomorrow. I think we need the energy, the performance, the concentration to only be thinking about our matches.

Tomorrow is our focus and I speak every day with the players and I spoke with every player – also with Mesut – to the focus and the concentration to prepare for the best performance tomorrow.

On whether Arsenal are in a better position now than he expected they would be at this stage

I think and I work with my mentality to look forward to be better in each moment and after each match. Now, the table is also, I think, giving us the moment they are doing at the moment, each teams.

Our performance also, after the first two against Manchester City and against Chelsea, is getting better.

But we need also, our challenge is, tomorrow we are on the good way but also when they are coming a lot of matches and difficult matches, to be more prepared for the possibility to win against the first teams like Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham, but also for very difficult games like tomorrow, against Watford.

I think the Premier League is the most important competition for us because it is giving us the best performance in 38 matches and I think the regularity is giving us our best performance.

On Troy Deeney’s comments about the Arsenal squad last season – and whether Arsenal can cope physically with Watford

I think it’s a big match and a rivalry match tomorrow. They want to win against us with good things tactically and good things also individually.

But we know, tomorrow we need to play and we need also in the individual duels on the pitch, to win for step-by-step in the 90 minutes so we can impose our ideas, our job and our moment physically on the match.

They are a team with very good players, very competitive and with the duels they are a very hard team.

On the current confidence levels at Arsenal

Each match gives us the opportunity to take more confidence. We are winning, I think the confidence is the best on our individual players and also on our collective work.

But every match is one challenge to show and to give, to find our best moment and best performance. I think each player is thinking well, but also we need more.

On whether he has looked towards Javi Gracia to learn about English football

Yes, maybe here there are not a lot of coaches knowing about Javi Gracia’s work, but in Spain he’s a respected coach.

I know him and he’s a very competitive coach. Every team he has, they are very organised and here I think he is improving also with their best players and with this organised idea with quality players like they have.

I think he is doing a very good job. For me, every coach in England – Spanish coaches, French coaches, English coaches – I learn the conditions with these coaches. I watch every match learning things in the 90 minutes with them.

Like Javi Gracia, I think I can learn with him too.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini is confident Declan Rice will sign a new contract at the club

Highly-rated teenager Declan Rice has turned down West Ham’s initial offer, reported to be worth around £15,000 a week, and his current deal runs out at the end of next season.

Rice has impressed in a deep-lying midfield role for the Hammers this term and will not be short of offers from elsewhere.

But his manager is not concerned that the 19-year-old’s head will be turned.

“Declan I think must try to continue to have good performances, not thinking about more or less money at the moment,” said Pellegrini.

“Nobody at the club is stupid. He’s not a young player anymore and I don’t
think he will have any problems with his contract in the future.”

Is Eden Hazard the best player in the world at the moment?

“Maybe, I don’t know. He is one of the best. I’m absolutely convinced that he can improve. If he’s able to improve in training maybe he will be able to use at 100%. I think we’ve only seen 75-80% of his potential. If he can improve he can be the best in the world.”

How do you think he can improve?

“With more intensity in training.”

Will he be the best player in the world next year if he does that?

“I think so.”

Is he the best player you’ve coached?

“It’s very difficult I think to compare him with others. He’s a genius. He’s unique.”

Do you have a slight psychological advantage over Liverpool after the win in midweek?

“I don’t think so. It will be another match in another competition with different teams. Maybe they can increase their determination after Wednesday. It was a difficult match on Wednesday and it will be a difficult match tomorrow as they are a top level team. I think they are ready now to win the Premier [League].”

Are you surprised that they’ve not won the league for 28 years?

“Yes. It’s very strange. Now they are ready.”

How difficult will it be to leave Fabregas and Cahill out after playing so well the other night?

“I was very happy with their performance. Fabregas and Cahill played 90 minutes after a long time, so I’m not sure if they’re ready to play twice in a week for 90 minutes. After Wednesday I am sure they will be very useful for us over the season.”

When you say Eden Hazard needs to show more intensity in training, what do you mean by that?

“More continuity from the physical and mental point of view. He has the opportunity to improve more and be the best player in the world. He’s a genius. Technically he’s the best. I want him to be the best in the world.”

How exciting is it for you to take him from 70% to 100%?

“It’s very interesting challenge. I want everything.”

Are you expecting a different game to the one on Wednesday?

“Of course. It’s a different competition with a different starting XI. It will be an open match.”

Have you spoken to Cahill about his future?

“I’ve spoken with him. There’s October, November and December, so I think he has to wait. I was very happy with the performance of Cahill. It’s far from now. We’ve still October, November and December.”

Is Rudiger fit?

“I don’t know. Yesterday he had training in the second part with the team. We need to see the last training. There’s the possibility to recover.”

You meet Liverpool for the second time in four days, you will be the perfect spy for your former club Napoli…

“Napoli know Liverpool very well and I saw some of the people from Napoli at the game on Wednesday.”

What do you think about Klopp?

“He’s one of the best coaches in the world at the moment. He did very well last season with his players. They are ready to win maybe the Premier League or Champions League. They are ready to do something important”

What’s the latest on Pedro, Christensen and Loftus-Cheek?

“Christensen was not injured, he only had stomach ache during the match. Pedro yesterday had the last part of the training with the team like Rudiger and Loftus-Cheek. We need to see the last training and then we’ll decide.”

West Ham forced you to play more on the right, can you describe what Hazard possesses and does it remind you of any player in the past?

“He’s unique. It’s very difficult to compare him to another player. I think that he can also play on the right side. We also have Willian on the right who faced West Ham. We can change the wingers. The last goal he scored he started on the right. For us it’s normal for him to play on the left or the right.”

FRSC Speaks On Fake Appointment Letters In Circulation

FRSC Speaks On Fake Appointment Letters In Circulation

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has disowned the fake employment letters of appointment into the corps currently in circulation in the country, describing it as a scam.

This is contained in a statement signed by the agency’s Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.

FRSC Issues Statement On Employment Letter Circuiting The Internet

NAN reports that the FRSC had on May 28, asked interested applicants to upload their application forms on the FRSC recruitment portal.

NAN also report that the FRSC on Sept. 13 issued a statement distancing itself from such fake appointment letters and scheduled its screening and physical fitness assessment on recruitment for Sept. 24 to Sept. 29 across all the states.

Kazeem said that the screening of applicants by the FRSC had commenced transparently nationwide and the process will climax with an aptitude test to be conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board.

“There will also be an interview for all successful applicants after the aptitude test.

“So, the purported employment letter in circulation is a scam,”he said.

He advised applicants and Nigerians to be wary of swindlers and mischief makers.

“We hereby further warn applicants not to fall for these fake employment letters, “he said.

He attributed the circulation of the fake appointment letters to the handiwork of fraudsters aimed at defrauding unsuspecting applicants or for the purpose of discrediting the Commission.

The FRSC spokesman said that the fake employment letter had surfaced before the commencement of the screening exercise and was promptly disclaimed by the FRSC.

He reminded the applicants that the Corps Marshal does not sign appointment letters, as was done in the letter in circulation, saying the format also does not conform to FRSC standard.

“The contact number or name of our staff is never included in employment letters.

“The name of the Deputy Corps Marshal mentioned in the said letter was wrongly spelt.

“The wordings and language of the letter clearly showed that it did not and cannot emanate from a world class organisation like the FRSC,”he said.

Songwriter-Singer Kay Jay Ogbonna signs multi million Naira management deal with The Boost Entertainment

Featured Image

Having previously signed a futile management & record label deal in the past, Nigerian songwriter-singer Kay Jay Ogbonna has just signed a multi million naira management deal with The Boost Entertainment which will be handling all his bookings and management affairs.

Kay Jay (born Victor Ogbonna, from Abia State) started music professionally in 2012 as a songwriter, composing songs for A list African/Nigerian artists such as Tunde Ednut (‘Catching Cold’), Iyanya (‘Iyanu Mashele’), KCEE (‘Burn’ & ‘Psycho’), Naeto C, Kach (‘Olo’), Chuddy K (‘Go Down’), Stunna (‘Balance’ featuring Iyanya), Samklef, Tillaman, Bimbi Philiphs (‘Duro Dada’).

With hit songs such as ‘Sell Over’ featuring Skales & Omo Akin (Produced by Kenny Wonder) and ‘Work & Pray’ featuring Shaydee (Produced by Blaq Jerzee), Kay Jay is set to release a new single in November 2018 produced by Blaq Jerzee, as well as announcements of future endorsements and partnerships, and plans for his body of work coming soon.

Currently nominated for the Nigerian Entertainment Awards 2018 ‘Fresh Vibes of The Year’ category alongside the likes of Davido’s artist Peruzzi, rumor has it that Kay Jay is the new ‘Kid’ on the block, watch out WIZ!

Artist statement

“I signed with The Boost Entertainment firstly because we have the same vision, I see them making me one of the biggest artists in Nigeria and beyond. Despite being newly established, this is one of the first and few music management companies in Nigeria that fund the artist, and I feel that is how it should be – it gave me even more assurance to work with them. They are not just bringing funds, strategy and ideas; they are bringing full hands on involvement and direction, with a unique attention to visual content creation – this is the structure that many (new/upcoming and young) Nigerian artists require to launch and succeed, our problems have always been how to finance and how to promote our music. The Boost Entertainment will provide all the support I require to achieve my goals and dreams. Five years from now I see myself becoming a big brand, winning multiple awards, opening an NGO to give back to communities by feeding the homeless and helping the less privileged. I also hope to write a book about the business of songwriting, in which I will detail the challenges we face as songwriters in the Nigerian music industry.“

Management statement

“Fate had its way when we crossed paths with Kay Jay while in search for music talents. The Boost Entertainment was established with a mission to catapult noteworthy artists to greater heights by providing all the fundamental support that artists require to initiate, expand, and progress. As already mentioned by the artist, one of the highlights of meeting Kay Jay was a mutually shared vision and approach, which led to an instant synergy and flow. With this official signing of Kay Jay our first artist, we plan to activate and create a new SI unit for music content management and creative business positioning. We at The Boost Entertainment believe that strategy and business direction with the right goals are the key structures in building a 360 music powerhouse.”

Chelsea Will Struggle To Keep Eden Hazard Next Summer -Cesc Fabregas

Featured Image

Cesc Fabregas believes that Chelsea will face a very tough task to keep Eden Hazard next summer

Eden Hazard has less than two years left on his deal and  he is prepared to wait before discussing fresh terms as he discovers if Chelsea can qualify for the Champions League again and challenge for major honours.

Cesc Fabregas told Standard Sport: “It was an easy decision, especially now, because at this stage how much can Eden cost? Not many teams in the world can buy Eden Hazard. He still had two years left on his contract.

“Next year if he has one year left, that’s a different story. You don’t have as much power as a club. Eden is one of the best players in the world.

“But having two years left, especially how the market is, it’s basically impossible to sign him up. I don’t think it was that hard from the club.”

Paul Pogba’s Expensive Earring Goes Missing In Manchester United Training Session

Featured Image

Twenty-five members of Manchester United staff were reportedly required to help search for Paul Pogba’s missing earring during the club’s training session.

According to The Sun, Paul Pogba was unsuccessful in his effort to find the costly jewelry and has since been offered a cash reward if it does turn up.

The incident is said to have happened at Carrington on Tuesday morning, a day before the 25-year-old had a tense exchange with manager Jose Mourinho in front of the TV cameras.

A source is quoted by the publication as saying: “Paul’s not been having the best time at the moment at United as everyone knows. He’s been stripped of the captaincy, had a furious bust up with the manager and is unsure what kind of a reception the fans will give him when United next play.

“Throw in losing an earring that cost thousands of pounds and it’s been the week from hell. He’s told the staff at the ground that he’ll hand over a good cash reward if anyone manages to find it for him.”

Germany’s Coach Joachim Low Speaks About Mesut Ozil Snub

Featured Image

Germany boss Joachim Low has insisted he attempted to meet with Mesut Ozil at Arsenal’s training ground on Monday but accepts the player does not want to talk

Mesut Ozil quit the German national team citing racism within the German FA.

Joachim Low and general manager Oliver Bierhoff visited Arsenal’s London Colney training complex in the hope of talking to Ozil, with whom they’ve had no contact since his withdrawal from the national team, and said the club was informed of his visit in advance.

“Mesut was not there, and thus we must accept it that he currently does not want to talk to us,” Low told reporters at a UEFA meeting in Nyon on Thursday. “I don’t know the reasons.”

Bild reported that Low and Bierhoff were not allowed to attend training “at the behest of Arsenal coach Umai Emery,” who later rejected the report when he told reporters: “It’s not true.”

Meanwhile, DFB president Reinhard Grindel criticised Ozil’s refusal to explain his decision.

“I think it’s not OK that all communication is refused here,” Grindel told ZDF. “I’d think it would be good to enter talks when you voice severe criticism in a statement.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that his side can stop Eden Hazard

Chelsea and Liverpool are meeting for the second time in three days- an a magnificent individual strike from Eden Hazard gave the Blues a 2-1 victory in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Hazard will start for Chelsea having come off the bench earlier this week, but Klopp feels that his backline can nullify the threat offered by the Belgium international.

At a press conference, the 50-year-old told reporters: “Stop passes to him? Good idea? Being close? Good idea, but he likes players being close sometimes.

“We all know we could have stopped that goal but he used that situation. No player is not defendable. We have to close the right spaces

Barcelona Unveil New Crest As They Drop ‘FCB’ Lettering

Featured Image

Barcelona have announced plans to change the club’s crest in order to “adapt to modern times”, from next season

The Barcelona badge has gone through numerous versions since the Catalan giants were founded in 1899 but the current design has been the same for the last 16 years.

The Spanish giants have now decided it is time to modernize it though, with the new design seeing the removal of the ‘FCB’ acronym from the middle of the badge among several other slight changes

“(The) basic form remains the same, but FCB acronym and inner black outlines removed to produce a more homogeneous, harmonious and brighter crest design.”

The new design has already been approved by the Barca board but now needs the approval of club members, with a decision set to be made on October 20.

If it is ratified, the new crest will effectively be introduced for the 2019-20 season.

Thomas Tuchel has won over the senior players at Paris Saint-Germain because he is more approachable than predecessor Unai Emery. Tuchel was also seen mocking Neymar’s theatrics in training by pretending to kick the Brazilian. (L’Equipe)

PSG right-back Colin Dagba, who was targeted over the summer by RB Leipzig, has agreed a new contract at the Parc des Prince. The 20-year-old has broken into the first-team picture under Tuchel but, with his deal due to expire in 2020, Leipzig were preparing an approach either in January or next summer. However, Dagba had committed his future until 2023, also agreeing a salary increase. (L’Equipe)

Buhari Reveals What He’ll Do If Re-Elected In 2019

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that his government will do better if he wins re-election in 2019 and “survives the next four years”.

According to the Nigerian supreme leader, “ordinary Nigerians” form the core of his support base, maintaining that “they always vote for me”.

The president made the comment on Thursday, September 27, during an interactive session with Nigerian professionals based in the US and Canada.

“If I win the next election and I survive the next four years, I will do better,” he said.

President Buhari further recounted his experience in politics, saying he suffered electoral corruption from 2013 when he started contesting for the presidency.

“I’m always conscious of the ordinary people because they are the ones that always vote for me. A lot of big men have no time to go and queue on the line for hours,” he said.

“There were even pregnant women who were on the line for hours and they delivered. They are my constituencies; they always vote for me.”

The president explained that he had warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies to ensure that every vote counts by allowing Nigerians pick whoever they want without harassment.

There might be scarcity of petroleum product as the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Association (PENGASSAN) have joined the strike ordered by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Nationwide Strike Continues As Presidency, Labour Disagree

The Punch quoted Mr Adamson Momoh, a spokesperson for NUPENG, as saying on Thursday that “we are part of the United Labour Congress; so, any decision that they take, we will abide by it.”

The National Public Relations Officer, PENGASSAN, Mr Fortune Obi, also said the association had been directed to join the ongoing strike.

He stated, “PENGASSAN is an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress; so, the directive is that we should join the strike, and after the Central Working Committee meeting, the CWC has issued the same directive as the TUC to our members.

“We will manage the protest technically; there is nowhere in the world where you will abruptly stop oil production. It is a process. So, even if our members are joining, which is to respect the directive from our principals, it is something that must be done systematically.

“We have our members in different departments and areas; some are in essential duties area, and they will continue to deliver their duties.”

The NLC on Wednesday directed all its members and affiliate unions to commence a nationwide strike on Thursday, following the failure of a meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, in Abuja on Wednesday, to produce the expected outcome.

The 2019 Recession And Real Reasons Nigeria Air Failed

The NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, said the industrial action would commence due to the refusal of the Federal Government to reconvene the meeting of the Tripartite National Minimum Wage Committee to enable it to conclude its work.

Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck has suggested that he is happy to wait for a more regular chance to impress

Danny Welbeck is currently Arsenal’s third choice striker behind Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the Premier League, but he has scored four times in all competitions.

However, Welbeck has said that he is prepared to bide his time this season having made a late return to pre-season training after the World Cup.

The 27-year-old is quoted by the London Evening Standard as saying: “You have got to wait for your opportunity. A few of the lads had a bit more of a pre-season than me which made it a bit difficult, I came a back a bit later than the others.

“I got 90 minutes last week, 90 minutes [on Wednesday] and I’m just going to build on it from there and keep improving. I am happy with the goals, it is more important that we went through to the next round and put in a good performance against a strong side.”

#OsunRerun: Buhari Congratulates Oyetola As Adeleke Heads To Tribunal

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, September 28, congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Governor-elect of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, for winning the state governorship election.

#OsunRerun: Adeleke Rejects Results As APC’s Oyetola Wins

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President said the people of the state had shown that they are supporting his administration’s good governance agenda by voting for the ruling party.

“Thank you Osun State for supporting our good governance agenda by re-electing the APC.

“I assure you that we will continue to work for the progress and prosperity of the state and the nation,” he said.

The President urged the governor-elect to always remember that the electorate expects unreserved commitment to delivering results that directly impact their lives and families.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has vowed to retrieve his ‘stolen mandate’ from Oyetola at the election petition tribunal.

Adeleke said this while speaking in an interview with journalists shortly before the final figure was announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, on Thursday.

The PDP candidate, who spoke through his brother, Dele Adeleke, said he would meet with the party leadership and tribunal would be the next step for the party and the candidate to take.

He said, “It will be foolish to allow this 419 result to stand. The party will meet and I believe that the tribunal is the next step to take.

“Adeleke’s mandate can’t be stolen, it will be retrieved. The wish of the people will stand at the end.”

Nationwide Strike Continues as Presidency, Labour Disagree

The nationwide warning strike embarked on by the organised labour continues today (Friday) in spite of the intervention of the presidency, which met with leaders of the striking workers at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Abba Kyari, had on Thursday met with Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, and his team to work out a truce that would see the workers suspend the strike and return to work while negotiations resumed on Thursday as proposed by the federal government.

ASUU May Join Strike As NLC Declares Total Nationwide Shutdown Today

During the meeting, Kyari was reported to have said that the federal government is yet to take a decisive position on the ongoing nationwide industrial action, adding that the purpose of the meeting is to understand what led to the strike.

According to Mr Kyari, what led to the strike was not the figure of the minimum wage but the process to arrive at the figure, which was stuck.

“The purpose of this meeting is to know what led to the strike. It is the process of arriving that figure that got stalled,” ThisDay quoted him as saying.

In his response, Wabba said the federal government made a promise to the unions but did not disclose the nature of the promise made by Mr Kyari.

He said, “The Chief of Staff tried to give us detail of government position which we will have to go and convey to our members and then we can revert back to him.

“This is how far we have gone but clearly I think we have tried to share details of the information that pertain to the issue of the national minimum wage and how the ongoing negotiation was stalled and also the best way to get out of it.

“Government has given us their words which we will also go and communicate to our members and revert back to government.

“The strike as you are aware is called by a larger organ until we get their mandate before we can make any pronouncement on the strike.

“All the discussion we have had, we will communicate to our members and therefore it is the outcome of our meeting with our members that we will also communicate to government.”

“We will try to do that very shortly as soon as possible. As we get out of here we put our heads together and try to see how to get our organs informed.”

But a member of the delegation disclosed at the background that the strike would continue despite pleas from Kyari that it should be called off, saying the government had enough time to avert the strike but failed.

“The Chief of Staff was begging us to call off the strike but it is not possible now. If we do it, our members will lynch us.”

A last ditch effort by the federal government to avert the strike ended in a stalemate on Wednesday.

The workers are demanding a new minimum wage of about N50, 000 instead of the current national minimum wage of N18, 000.
