Manchester City are interested in Hoffenheim young talent Ilay Elmkies. The Israeli midfielder recently featured in the Bundesliga club’s 4-2 win over City in the UEFA Youth Cup and among those impressed was coach Pep Guardiola. (Sport Bild)

Former Manchester City youngster Jadon Sancho has signed a new deal at Borussia Dortmund until 2022, despite interest from Premier League sides. The 18-year-old has featured in eight games for the Bundesliga side this season, providing six assists and a goal. (Sport Bild)

Spain

Barcelona’s financial results show a record turnover of €960 (£854m), yet the Spanish champions also saw their costs rise to €929m (£827m). This may force Barca to reduce their wage bill and could even rule out any big signings in the January transfer window. (Mundo Deportivo)

Luka Modric admitted after Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat to CSKA Moscow that “the atmosphere in the dressing room has not been good” at Real Madrid following three games without a goal or win for the reigning European champions. (AS)

Barcelona representatives plan to be in attendance at the Parc des Princes tonight for PSG’s Champions League clash with Crvena Zvezda to watch midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The French international is refusing to sign a contract extension with the French champions and will be allowed to speak to other clubs in January. (Mundo Deportivo)

Italy

Juventus are hoping to make the contract extension of Daniele Rugani one of their main priorities once they have recovered from the unexpected departure of CEO Beppe Marotta. Rugani, who has been linked with Chelsea, sees his contract expire in 2021 but plans to renew the deal have been delayed due to a reshuffle in personnel in the Turin club’s offices.(Calcio Mercato)

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s agent, Mateja Kezman, has confirmed that there is no minimum-fee release clause in his new contract at Napoli and that when he is sold it will be at a price the club has agreed to. (Corriere dello Sport)

France

Marco Verratti’s contract at PSG doesn’t expire until the summer of 2021, but the French midfielder may be on the verge of signing an extension until 2023 after his agent Mino Raiola and the Parisian club came to an agreement. (L’Equipe)

Report: Adrien Rabiot Rejects PSG’s Third Contract Extension Offer

Featured Image

Adrien Rabiot has reportedly rejected a third offer to lengthen his contract at PSG

According to ‘Paris United’, Adrien Rabiot and PSG are still yet to come to an agreement over a new contract. The Frenchman, whose current contract will expire next summer, has now said “no” to the ‘Parisiens’ for a third time.

The French international does not seem ready to extend his contract with PSG, at least for now. PSG are trying to convince the midfielder with the help of Tuchel, but it is proving difficult.

The latest offer presented by PSG and rejected by Rabiot included a salary of 7.2 million euros per year with bonuses.

Cristiano Ronaldo Denies Rape Allegations -‘It Goes Against Everything I Am’

Featured Image

Cristiano Ronaldo has denied an accusation of rape made against him by Kathryn Mayorga, claiming such a crime was “against everything that I am and believe in”.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of raping Kathryn Mayorga in June 2009, the summer before he joined Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The claim was originally settled when Mayorga’s silence on the event had been bought by Ronaldo, but now her lawyer is questioning the legality of the out-of-court settlement.

A civil complaint has been filed in Nevada and Las Vegas police have reopened their investigation into the allegations.

“At the time the report was taken, the victim did not provide detectives with the location of the incident or suspect description,” said a statement from the Las Vegas police on Monday.

“As of September 2018, the case has been reopened and our detectives are following up on information being provided.”

The full complaint can be read of the ‘Der Spiegel’ website here, featuring Mayorga’s full description of the alleged events in Las Vegas.

Today, Cristiano Ronaldo has responded via his Twitter account, saying: “I strictly deny the allegations of which I am targetted. I consider rape an abject crime, contrary to everything I am and believe.

“I will not feed the media spectacle mounted by those who want to promote at my expense.”

This response also comes after a post on Instagram, in which he called the allegations “fake news”.However, this was later deleted.

Robert Pires Backs Alex Iwobi To Become The Difference-maker At Arsenal

Featured Image

Arsenal legend Robert Pires has spoken of how Alex Iwobi’s performance against Watford ‘made the difference’ between the two sides, and predicts big things for the young player’s future with the ‘Gunners’.

Alex Iwobi’s 30 minute cameo against Watford last weekend had club legend Robert Pires purring, as the Frenchman later admitted that the young Nigeria international has a promising future with the Premier League side.

Iwobi was the catalyst in a mid-game revival which saw the ‘Gunners’ turn the result on its head; the midfielder provided the cross for Craig Cathcart’s own goal, and also played a large role in the build-up to Mesut Ozil’s second. And club legend Pires has revealed that he made the extra effort to speak to Alex Iwobi after the game, in order to praise the player for the impact he had on the outcome of the contest.

Speaking to ‘Standard Sport’ about Iwobi’s performance in the match, Pires said: “He’s a great player, very fast. He finds good solutions on the field with his vision. He has good mentality and spirit. Of course, he’s young but he’s learning very quickly. Arsenal with Alex Iwobi and Alex Iwobi with Arsenal have a good future.”

Jose Mourinho Bans Paul Pogba From Speaking To The Media

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho has stopped Paul Pogba from speaking publicly about the troubles at Manchester United.

The Manchester United manager  laid the law down after stripping Paul Pogba of the vice-captaincy last week.

Jose Mourinho was angered by a series of inflammatory interviews given by Pogba in recent weeks and has banned him from talking to the media for the foreseeable future.

The £89m midfielder’s call for United to “attack, attack, attack” after last month’s 1-1 draw with Wolves was the final straw for Mourinho, who insisted he would never captain the club again.

Asked to speak after the goalless draw with Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday, Pogba said: “I’ve been told I’m not allowed.”

It followed his four-word response to an interview request after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham when he said: “You want me dead?”

I Wish I’d Worked With Maurizio Sarri Sooner In My Career – Ross Barkley

Featured Image

Ross Barkley has said he would probably be a better player if he had worked with a manager like Maurizio Sarri earlier in his career.

The Chelsea midfielder has established himself as an important player for Maurizio Sarri this season, featuring in six of Chelsea’s first seven Premier League games.

He has had to wait for his first-team chance since arriving from Everton in January, suffering a hamstring injury and featuring only twice in the Premier League under Antonio Conte.

“Right now I think Sarri’s philosophy is helping me a lot because over the years I haven’t really been coached much,” Barkley said.

“I am at an age now where I understand football a lot more, and how important it is to take the different tactics from different managers on board.

“You only need to be around the gaffer for half an hour to understand how intelligent he is. His attention to detail is really important for everyone to understand what he wants.

“I’ve thought about it and I believe if I did have that type of approach from a coach when I was younger then maybe I would have improved a lot more.

“But these things happen in football, and where I am now is where I believe I should be. I’m in the right place to show what I’m capable of.”

Barkley said he believed he had fallen into a trap common for footballers who become first-team regulars at a young age.

“When you go through the youth system you’re always going into analysis work, you’re always looking at every way of improving and your coaches are always on top of you,” he said.

“Once you get into the first team it can sort of change, because game to game managers are focused on weekly results and not more player development.

“That’s just the way it can go — some players are more fortunate than others to have coaches who are fully focused on improvement.”

However, Barkley played down the suggestion that he might have been better served by moving away from Everton sooner.

“It was hard for me to leave,” he said. “They were my boyhood club, I supported them since I was a young kid. It was a really difficult choice for me to take, but I felt it was the right time for me to make the step.

“I believed that we were going in the right direction to be a massive club and compete for titles, but it didn’t go that way and then I felt like I needed to take this chance [to join Chelsea].”

Croatian Court Rejects Perjury Charge Against Luka Modric

Featured Image

A Croatian court has rejected a charge of perjury against Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric.

Luka Modric had been accused of giving a false testimony at a trial relating to his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in 2008.

The trial saw Dinamo Zagreb chief executive Zdravko Mamic and three club officials sentenced to prison over embezzled funds from transfers which are thought to have cost the club more than £13.1m and the state around £1.3m.

That verdict is being appealed, and the Zagreb municipal criminal court has now ruled that the perjury charge against Modric was “premature” with the initial trial still not final.

Modric is accused of signing a clause in his contract when he had already left Zagreb for Spurs in 2008, whereas he claims that he signed it in July 2004.

Last month Croatia’s state attorney charged another Croatia international, Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren, with the same offence as Modric.

Manchester United Charged By UEFA For Late Old Trafford Arrival

Featured Image
Manchester United have been charged by UEFA after arriving late for their Champions League match with Valencia on Tuesday night.
Manchester United team coach was delayed in traffic on its way from the Lowry Hotel in Manchester city centre to the stadium, with manager Jose Mourinho later blaming the police for the delay after they were refused an escort to the ground.

However, Greater Manchester Police have since insisted that they have been in consultation with clubs “over a period of months” to inform them that they will now only provide police escorts when there is a risk to players.

Kickoff was delayed by five minutes for the Group H clash, which ended in a 0-0 draw as United’s winless run stretched to four matches across all competitions.

Valencia have also been charged as both teams were reportedly late out of their dressing rooms, even after the new kickoff time had been agreed.

UEFA have also charged the Spanish outfit for a kit infringement due to their substitutes wearing neck warmers with the manufacturers’ logo visible.

The European governing body’s regulations shows that late kick-offs bring a warning to the coach and team for the first infringement. A second infringement brings a €10,000 fine for the team and one-match under probation for the coach.

Issues relating to team arrivals can bring a warning or €5,000 fine for the second offence

First Europa League game at Stamford Bridge, proud of that?

“Yes of course. I think that the Europa League is a very important competition so we have to play very well tomorrow because we have to play against a good team. They have played very well in the first match of the group stage, they were a bit unlucky I think, so it is very important for me to play in Stamford Bridge for a European match.”

Will this game impact the Southampton game on Sunday?

“I don’t know. I don’t think that in West Ham we didn’t win because of the match in Greece. We changed a lot of players so I don’t think the reason was that.

“Of course tomorrow we need to change some players because we have spent a lot of mental and physical energy in two matches against Liverpool and then after this match we have to play a match again in 62 hours so tomorrow we need to chage. I don’t know how many players but we need to change.”

What’s more important? Top four or winning the Europa League?

“At the moment for my club it is more important to be in the Champions league. To play the Champions League is more important at the moment but I want to arrive to the end in the Europa League.”

Team news?

“I have to speak to Pedro who is doing better like Loftus-Cheek and so I think that tomorrow every player is available. I have to change, 5, 6, 7 players. I don’t know at the moment. I want to see training in the afternoon and to see the last training tomorrow morning.”

Favourites to win the Europa League?

“I don’t know. We want to arrive to the end but the Europa League is a very unusual competition because at the moment we don’t know all the names of the opponents . In the second round eight teams will arrive from the Champions League so it is very difficult but we want to arrive at the end of the competition.”

Why is playing in the Europa League more difficult for Premier League games than Champions League?

“I think it is more difficult because in the Champions League usually you have 80 hours from a match to the other match. In the Europa League, especially in England, we have only 60, 64 hours and so it is more difficult. In Italy it is a little bit different especially when you play away because you can ask to play on Monday nights and in Italy usually if you play at home on Thursday you play on Sunday but at 8 o’clock, 9 o’clock so in England it is more difficult.”

You haven’t won a trophy as a coach, does that bother you?

“I don’t know in Italy it is not very easy to win a trophy in the last 7, 8 years only Juventus won a trophy so it is very difficult. In England it is difficult because we have 6, 7 teams that can win so it is difficult. I am here to win, I want to win, I want to win something and I hope to be able to do it.”

Doesn’t keep you awake at night?

“No, I need to sleep for 8 hours every night otherwise I am in trouble.”

Will Hazard, Hudson-Odoi or Ampadu play?

“I don’t know. For sure not both, Hazard or Odoi, but I don’t know at the moment. As I said a couple of weeks ago, the period from the first international break and the second for me is my pre-season so I would like to see every player in this period. Maybe tomorrow it is time to see Loftus I think. I don’t know for Odoi at the moment.”

Is Loftus-Cheek fit?

“He was unlucky in the last three weeks after the match with the national team. He had a problem in the last 5, 6 days he has been better so I think that he is able to play tomorrow.”

FG Speaks On Planned Hike Of Universities Tuition Fees To N350,000

The Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday, October 3, dismissed the news making the rounds on social media that the Federal Government had approved the hike in tuition fees of Nigerian universities to N350,000.

Mr Sonny Echono, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry made the clarification at a symposium in Abuja.

University Of Ibadan (UI) Reveals Cut-Off Marks For 2018/19 Admission

Echono, who said the Federal Government was not planning to increase the tuition fees, urged Nigerians to remain calm on the issue.

UNILAG Announces Dates, Venues For 2018/2019 Postgraduate Entrance Exams

The symposium has its theme: “The Right to Education means the Right to a Qualified Teacher’’.

“The Federal Government did not and has no intention of introducing new tuition fees in our public universities not to mention the figure to N350, 000.

“What is true is that the present administration is committed to guarantee quality of education.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the ministry of education along with the ministry of finance to jointly organise a workshop that will inform on a very sustainable and workable recommendation of funding education in Nigeria.

“And to this end, we have been engaging various stakeholders including ASUU who can come up with a very useful contribution that will bring all these recommendations achievable.”

Echono added that the ministry was working toward re-establishing the education bank to address the role of education funding as the government cannot do it alone.

Aston Villa Sack Manager Steve Bruce After Just One Win In 10 matches

Featured Image

Aston Villa have sacked manager Steve Bruce after the club’s poor start to the season.

Aston Villa only missed out on promotion to the Premier League through defeat in the Championship playoff final last season, but just three wins have been recorded in 11 second-tier fixtures during the current campaign.

Tensions boiled over at Villa Park on Tuesday evening as a supporter threw a cabbage in the direction of Steve Bruce on a night where the club let slip a 2-0 lead to only draw 3-3 with Preston North End, and the club have decided to act by parting company with Bruce after a  two-year spell.

Bruce accused the supporter who threw a cabbage at him before the game of showing a lack of respect. “Unfortunately, it sums up the society we are in at the moment,” he said after the match. “There’s no respect for anyone. Certainly for someone like him, I’m surprised he knew what a cabbage was. I find the whole thing hugely disrespectful.”

A club statement read: “We would like to place on record our gratitude to Steve and his team for their hard work and commitment. We wish them well for the future.

“The process of recruiting a new manager has begun. In the meantime, Kevin MacDonald, Aston Villa U23s manager, will be in charge of the team for our trip to Millwall on Saturday.”

NYSC Okays Enrolment Of Corps Members Into NHIS

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has approved the enrolment of corps members into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, the Director-General of the NYSC, announced the approval of the health services scheme to pressmen at the opening ceremony of the 2018 edition of the NYSC Annual Management Conference which coincides with the 45th anniversary of the scheme held in Akure.

NYSC DG Reveals When Increment In Corpers’ Allowance Will Take Effect

Kazaure further disclosed that apart from the approval of enrollment into the NHIS, the orientation camp of the scheme now has a consultant from the Federal Medical Centre on ground as part of the partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health to attend to any critical emergency health issue.

The NYSC DG used the opportunity to commend the corps members who participated in the Osun State gubernatorial poll, describing them as good ambassadors of NYSC.

“This annual management conference is for the top managers to come together and critically review the operations and policies of the scheme by setting an agenda so as to improve on the programme in subsequent years,” he said.

On the increment of allowance of corps members, he said the scheme was not different from the civil service and would need to wait for the new National Minimum Wage.

Kazaure said the scheme had cleared the backlog of unpaid staff allowances and also created a robust forum to interface with members of staff and labour unions for industrial harmony.

He said the theme of the conference is very apt in view of the laudable achievements recorded by the scheme in its 45 years of existence and the need to evolve strategies that will enhance operations and open new opportunities.

Fulani Herdsman Devastated As Thunder Kills 23 Of His Cows

At least 23 cows have been killed in Ekiti State after a deafening thunder was reportedly accompanied by a downpour recorded in some parts of the state in the last couple of days.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident, which occurred at Okeowa Eluju, a farmstead in Iloro-Ekiti, Ijero Local Government Area of the state, has caused apprehension among local residents.

Behold The 25-Year-Old Lady Who Already Has 9 Children!

Confirming the incident, a Fulani herder and owner of the dead cows, Abdulkadri Kadiri, said he was devastated by the development.

“I went to farm after about six hours heavy downpour on Monday morning, only to discover that 23 of my cows had died.”

”After careful observation, I found that there was no trace of bodily injuries on the dead cows. I want to believe it is an act of God since I did not offend or quarrel with anyone,” he said.

Kadiri, however, said he had not experienced such incident in his 35 years of business.

Also confirming the incident, the Regent of the community, High Chief Joseph Alofe, described the victim as a gentle and peace loving herder.

The community leader, who also described the incident as strange to the village, called on government and well-meaning individuals to assist the herder, to revive his business.

EFCC Rejects Calls To Jail Lai Mohammed

EFCC Rejects Calls To Jail Lai Mohammed

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has informd a Federal High Court in Lagos to dismiss a motion filed by a former Minister of State for Finance, Nenadi Usman, seeking to commit the Information Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, to prison for alleged contempt.

The anti-graft agency made this submission yesterday, at the resumed trial of Mrs. Usman alongside a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, one, Danjuma Yusuf and a company, John Trust Dimensions Nigeria Limited, on a 17-count charge of alleged N4.6 billion fraud.

The EFCC, in the charge marked FHC/L/C/251c/2016, accused the defendants of conspiracy, unlawful retention of proceeds of theft and money laundering.

Mrs. Usman had in a motion on notice filed through her lawyer, Chief Ferdinand Orbih (SAN) argued that the inclusion of her name on the looters’ list released by the information minister during the pendency of an alleged fraud case against her is contemptuous.

The former minister added that Lai Mohammed’s action is an attempt to prejudice the mind of the public against her in the case pending before the court.

Reacting to Usman’s lawyer arguments on the motion, counsel to EFCC, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, urged the court to decline the Nenadi’s request for the information minister to be summoned to explain why he should not be committed to prison over his action.

Oyedepo insisted that the applicant (Nenadi) was never referred to as a looter by the information minister saying what was published by some newspapers only bordered on allegations and cannot be said to be prejudicial to the applicant’s case in court.

He further argued that there was no advertorial from the Ministry of Information to substantiate the claims against the information minister.

“The minister of information is not a party to the criminal proceedings against the applicant. There is no evidence to show that the alleged contemnor works with the various media houses that published the alleged offensive publication. Besides, there were no allegations against the media houses that published the alleged offensive publication.

“There was nothing that connects the ministry of information to the motion which was taken out to annoy the prosecution. The motion is lacking in substance, it is an abuse of court’s process and should be dismissed”, Oyedepo submitted.

Justice Mohammed Aikawa reserved his ruling on the motion until Nov. 16.

The tweet – which certainly hyped the current condition of the country – however, didn’t go down well with a lot of peeved Nigerians on social media and they vented their chagrin on her, especially a Twitter user Wole (@Kingwole), who did a thread to address her tweet.

Bear in mind that Ebri had yesterday cancelled the election, saying they had not conducted the election.
