The former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Alhassan, on Monday, Ocotber 8, received 50,000 supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) into United Democratic Party (UDP) in Taraba state.

Alhassan Resigns From Buhari’s Cabinet, Reveals Why She Can’t Remain His Minister

Aisha, better known as “Mama Taraba,” who is the governorship candidate of the UDP in the state, during an event held at the Unity Hall in Jalingo, the state capital, assured the defectors of justice and equal treatment in the UDP.

Also speaking, the Leader of the defectors and former chieftain of the APC in the state, Uba Mairiga, said the injustice meted to him and his supporters in the APC was the reason they dumped the party.

Mairiga, who contested for Jalingo II State Constituency in APC but lost out in the primaries, also submitted his UDP nomination form to contest for the seat.

“Due to unfair treatment and injustice against me and my supporters, I have decided to leave the APC with over 50,000 of my supporters to the UDP.

“My supporters and I have left APC and would work for the success of the UDP at all levels in the state,” he said.

Is Hotyce The Nigerian Rap Messiah?

Featured Image

Is Hotyce The Nigerian Rap Messiah?

Just like her jollof rice, Nigerian music is making waves all over the world, so much so that more international acts have started genially featuring Nigerian artists without asking for money, but one thing stands out, the Nigerian rappers are not necessarily moving at the same pace as their pop act counterparts and this may be attributed to a school of thought that believes; Nigerians are not necessarily interested in hip-hop.

But, this has been proven a fallacy with events like the recent JCole concert in Lagos December, 2018 that had over  70% of the audience rapping to his new album word for word.

MUSIC: Hotyce – We Don’t Do That Over Here

This has not always been so, from the days of Mode Nine’s lyrical genius, to Overdose’s still unmatched depth, wordplay like Terry tha Rapman’s and Edris Abdulkareem’s clever use of pun, Nigerian rap had times that some would describe as the glory days.  Shortly after the epic Edris Abdulkareem-Obasanjo run out, there was a brief slump period where everything went quiet for a while.

Then 10 years ago, the generally acclaimed king of Nigerian Hip-hop, MI Abaga released his first album ‘Talk About It’ on the 11th of December 2008 and till date, no Nigerian rapper or rap album has been able to generate the sort of wave MI obtained then. You have three days to prove me wrong, take your time.

MUSIC: Hotyce – 10 O’Clock In VGC

Are you done?

In 2017 when it felt like South Africa and other African hip-hop acts were getting bigger raves than those in the Nigerian hip-hop scene, MI asked his Nigerian counterparts to ‘fix Up’ with his single titled ‘You rappers should fix your life’ but instead, they came for his head with a couple of them putting out sulky records to challenge his authority.

MUSIC: Hotyce – The Man Ft. Spanky Manolo

It’s a year since the release of ‘You rappers Should Fix up Your Life’ and Nigeria is yet to witness any hip-hop record heavy enough to make MI lose sleep, but I think I have finally found the one, he’s Hotyce.

I stumbled on Hotyce’s new record by chance and since then I have gone back to listen to some of his old tunes. His voice has got the sort of hunger for success that I saw in MI the first time we spoke about his music and I’m willing to bet that he is going to shake the hip-hop table when he finally puts out an album.

MUSIC: Hotyce – Hell Yeah

I think Hotyce is the Nigerian hip-hop messiah we desperately prayed for, if you don’t believe me listen to his new record here.

Governor Fayose Threatens To Dump PDP

Barely 24 hours after the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) elected its presidential candidate, the outgoing governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose has threatened to quit the party.

It is understood that he issued the threat to leave the party after the National Convention held on Saturday in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.

Atiku Beats Tambuwal, Saraki, Others To Win PDP Presidential Primary

The governor informed newsmen on Monday that he would renounce his “membership of the PDP anytime from now.”

“After consultations, I will speak clearly to Nigerians,” Fayose, who has been one of the most vocal critics of the Buhari government, said today, Nigerian Guardian reports.

Before Fayose’s surprising announcement, there have been rumours that the Ekiti governor was planning to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress. But he said that will never happen.

“I remain in PDP and those associating me with the APC can continue to celebrate their own political self deceit,” Fayose said on August 5.

Meanwhile, a former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, was declared the winner of the party’s presidential primary, defeating the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Senate President Bukola Saraki, and eight others.

Guardiola Apologises For Taking Penalty From Jesus

Featured Image

Pep Guardiola has apologised for his decision to deny Gabriel Jesus a penalty shot, and hand the duties to Riyad Mahrez.

Manchester City had a shot to go ahead and win the crunch tie against Liverpool to go clear at the top.

Jesus stepped up to take the penalty, which was won by Leroy Sane, only for Guardiola to favour Mahrez.

Guardiola has apologised for making that decision, telling reporters after a 0-0 draw: “During the training sessions every day I see Mahrez taking the penalties and it gave me a lot of confidence. It will be good experience for him, next time it will go in.

“Jesus wanted to [take it]. I apologise. It was my decision.”

Guardiola added: “Normally for the last six, seven months the penalties were always Sergio’s but he was on the bench. He was on the pitch when the first penalty was not given.

“Maybe we need two penalties to score one goal. I would not like to speak about the referees, about the decisions. We should talk about the game, the football.”

Chelsea Legend John Terry Announces Retirement From Playing Amid Aston Villa Links

Featured Image

Chelsea legend John Terry has announced his retirement from playing

The long-serving Chelsea defender and England captain has hung up his boots at the age of 37 and is understood to be primed for a quick return to management with Aston Villa.

He is poised to become Thierry Henry’s assistant at the club he played for last season, with former Arsenal star Henry in pole position to be named as manager this week.

Terry wrote on Instagram: “After 23 incredible years as a footballer, I have decided now is the right time to retire from playing. I have many people to thank. My wife Toni and my two children, Georgie and Summer, for being my rocks throughout my career – I couldn’t have done it without you, I love you with all my heart.

“I thank my parents, Sue and Ted, for the sacrifices they made for me as a boy, giving me the best opportunity to fulfil my dream and become a professional footballer. My brother, Paul, for his help and advice throughout my career – and all my family and friends for their great support.”

He added: “As a 14-year-old, I made my best and biggest decision: to sign for Chelsea Football Club. Words will never be enough to show how much everyone at the club means to me, in particular the fans. Right from the outset they have given me total support, on and off the pitch, and I have a tremendous bond with them.

“We achieved so many great memories together and I couldn’t have succeeded without you. To me, you are the best fans in the world. I hope I have done you all proud wearing the shirt and the armband.

“My club career and heart will always belong to Chelsea, but I am grateful for my loan spell at Nottingham Forest in 1999, which was invaluable for my development as a young player.

“And I also want to say a huge thank you to Aston Villa for giving me the opportunity to play at such a big club and captain it throughout the 2017-18 season. It was a privilege to represent such a renowned football club with great fans. I look forward to the next chapter in my life and the challenges ahead.”

Terry turned down a move to Spartak Moscow last month, despite reportedly having a medical, saying it was not right for his family. His last game as a professional was Villa’s 1-0 Championship play-off final defeat to Fulham in May.

Terry won 78 England caps, five Premier League titles with Chelsea, five FA Cups and three League Cups.

Buhari Bombs Atiku, Accuses Him Of ‘Dollarising’ The Political Arena

Featured Image

Buhari Bombs Atiku, Accuses Him Of ‘Dollarising’ The Political Arena

The President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organization, a group authorized to speak for the president ahead of the 2019 elections, has reacted to the emergence of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), presidential candidate.

While telling Nigerians to be worried about the credibility of Atiku, the President’s campaign team said the ex-VP was only able to win the primary because he bought delegates’ votes.

In a press release signed by its spokesperson, Festus Keyamo, SAN, the group said the former VP did not win the election on a free and fair basis but induced the delegates financially.

The statement read, “We wish to congratulate His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on his emergence as the candidate of the PDP in respect of the forth-coming 2019 Presidential Election.

“However, we note with interest all the reports in the media as to massive vote-buying at the PDP primaries (especially with foreign currency). We contrast this with the speech of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2014 APC Convention when he said as follows:

“I have always served Nigeria to the best of my ability. I have always tried to give more to the nation than it has given me. This is the principle of service that has guided my public life. Thus, I am not a rich person. I can’t give you a fistful of dollars or naira to purchase your support. Even if I could, I would not do so. The fate of this nation is not up for sale.”

“There were also media reports in the 2014 APC National Convention that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar freely used the same method of massive vote-buying in foreign currency, but he came a distant third. Till date, he has not denied those media reports. The claim therefore that the process that produce him now as a candidate of the PDP was free, fair and transparent is suspect.”

“It is therefore clear that going into this election the issues that will agitate the minds of Nigerians most would be centered around the credibility of the candidate of the opposition and the kind of values he brings into our politics.”

“Nigerians would ask themselves whether he can be trusted with our national resources with this proclivity for ‘dollarising’ the political arena, thereby taking us back to the warped values from which President Buhari is trying to extricate the nation. One wonders what such a candidate would do with public funds.”

“Nigerians would also note with interest the verdict of Atiku’s former boss when he was Vice President on his credibility and integrity, calling him unprintable names at different occasions. Nigerians would note that in all of these occasions, Atiku Abubakar had never defended these allegations against him by his former boss, but continues to court his support and cooperation.”

“Nigerians would want to know how candidate Atiku Abubakar intends to inspire a nation to believe in his ability to fight corruption in the face of very damning reports both locally and internationally concerning his records on corruption whilst he was in public service as a Customs Officer and later when he was Vice President of Nigeria.”

“We note with amusement that on many occasions Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has tried to claim some credit for certain ‘achievements’ during the tenure of President Obasanjo when he was Vice President because, according to him, he was ‘part of that Government”. We also wish to remind Nigerians that as much as he claims the credit, he must be prepared to accept joint liability for all that happened in that Government. He cannot blow hot and cold. In due time we shall talk about all these.”

“Taking all the above into considerations, Nigerians would rightly ask whether a leopard can indeed change its skin despite all the sweet talk they expect to hear from the opposition candidate during the election.”

“Finally, in the history of elections in Nigeria, the choices before Nigerians have never been clearer than now: Nigerians would have to decide between a candidate with a history full of credibility crises, damning reports on corruption both home and abroad and another candidate, (the incumbent President) with an unblemished record in public service.”

Bill Cosby “Already Seeking To Be Released From Prison”

Bill Cosby “Already Seeking To Be Released From Prison”

Barely less than two weeks since Bill Cosby got sentenced, there are strong indications that his lawyers are now trying to not only get him out of prison but have the case and the judge tossed too.

It was gathered that a defense motion filed on Friday outlines his attorneys’ requests, which include the overturning of the actor’s conviction and three-to 10-year sentence on account of errors made in his sex assault case and trial.

“The defendant, William H. Cosby, Jr., moves this Court for a new trial in the interest of justice, or at least for reconsideration and modification of the sentence imposed on September 25, 2018,” a defense motion filed in Pennsylvania state court on Oct. 5 and made public this weekend declares, according to Deadline.

Denied home arrest or bail, Cosby is said to have already had an appeal attorney in the courtroom with him and promises of filing a motion on the matter — as he now has.

The defense motion argued that trial Judge Steven O’Neill erred in declaring Cosby a sexually violent predator who must be imprisoned to protect the community.

The lawyers also called the sentence more punitive than necessary, given the standard two- to three-year guideline range for the crime and the fact Cosby is 81 and blind.

They also said the trial evidence never proved the encounter with accuser Andrea Constand took place in 2004, and not 2003, or that Cosby was arrested within the 12-year time limit.

Cosby’s defense team claims Judge Steven O’Neill should’ve recused himself from the sentence hearing following the 2017 mistrial and ensuing retrial this spring.

“For the reasons detailed in Mr. Cosby’s previously-filed motions for recusal (which are incorporated here by reference, without being repeated and set forth at length), and for all the foregoing reasons, a reasonable observer could question the impartiality of the judge who imposed the September 25, 2018, sentence,” the filing says.

“Accordingly, Judge O’Neill should have recused himself from imposing sentence.”

Taylor Swift Breaks A Major Political Silence, Endorses Two Democratic Candidates

Considered by many as an apolitical figure in pop culture, who avoids any mention of her personal politics, Taylor Swift, has however changed that perception about her on Sunday night.

Taylor Swift’s New Album ‘Reputation’ Sells 1.05M Copies In 4 Days

The singer took to Instagram to endorse a Democratic Senate candidate, saying “several events” in her life and “in the world” over the past two years had caused her to feel “very differently” about voicing her political opinions.

Taylor Swift Breaks A Major Political SilenceSwift also plans to vote for Tennessee hopeful Phil Bredesen, who is running against Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn.

“I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country,” Swift wrote in an IG caption.

“I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG.”

“I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent. I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love. Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn.”

Swift said Blackburn’s voting record in Congress “appalls and terrifies” her — and her beliefs are not representative of her “Tennessee values.”

“She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape,” Swift said. “She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values. I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives.”

Swift further enjoined her followers to “please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values.”

“For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway,” she said. “So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count. But first you need to register, which is quick and easy to do.”

Valverde Bemoans Barcelona’s Misfortunes

Featured Image

Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde says they are always swimming against the tide, following another dropped points in the league.

Barcelona have failed to win their last four games in the league, after their 1-1 draw against Valencia, missing their chance to go top.

Garay opened the scoring in the second minute, before Messi restored parity halfway through the first half.

Barca were unable to find a winner at Mestalla as the titleholders missed the chance to reclaim top spot and Valverde bemoaned his team’s slow start.

“The team have gone out with the mentality that we have to have, the same as four days ago which was ideal, then we start and score in two minutes, it was the opposite [against Valencia],” Valverde said.

“The goal can happen, we train so that it doesn’t happen but they are circumstances in football, nothing more.

“It’s true that this year we are with this dynamic of always having to come back from behind, it seems we are always swimming against the tide, but we know that it will change.”

“It’s true that we played four days ago, but they had five,” Valverde continued. “When the opposition sits back and defends well and together, it’s difficult.

“They were waiting for a mistake to catch our defence out, it’s a long fight to see how you resolve it. I thought that we could resolve the situation with the players we had on the pitch.”

Valverde added: “It was a hard-fought game, like always here. The goal stunned us a little, they had two or three good chances, then we started to dominate the play again.

“The game was there for the taking if we took our chances or they capitalised on a mistake from us. Everyone has their style, we play, we would have liked to have won.”

Tuchel: Mbappe Could Have Scored Seven Goals

Featured Image

PSG gaffer was left purring after the display of teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe against Lyon and believes he could have scored seven goals in that match.

The France international forward scored four goals in the space of 13 minutes in the 5-0 rout against Lyon.

The 19-year-old Mbappe is also the youngest player to have achieved this feat. He has broken a 45-year record in the Ligue 1.

Speaking about Mbappe post-match, Tuchel told reporters: “He did not have much luck against [Red Star] Belgrade [in the 6-1 Champions League rout of the Serbian champions]. He has shown a great mentality in training these past two days.

“[Against Lyon] he worked a lot tactically for the team and defensively sacrificed himself. He received his award with his four goals and he could have scored five, six or seven!

“I’m very satisfied because he has not lost confidence, he has been magnificent. With Neymar they were dangerous all the time.”

Asked if the Mbappe-Neymar partnership is the best attacking duo in football, Tuchel replied: “One of the best yes. But don’t forget [Edinson] Cavani or [Angel] Di Maria, nor the other players.

“I know you’re looking for a big headline but the team have suffered and it’s everyone’s efforts that have been rewarded. We have some of the best players in the world but that will be all [laughs].”

Let me express my thanks to the leadership and members of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) for your belief and wholehearted response to my vision for Nigeria, which has brought us here today.

To the love of my life, Pastor Nedu Ezekwesili, and my children, I would not be taking this step without your support and inspiration. Your love makes me a stronger and better person everyday.

I am grateful to God for the Divine Providence that has brought us to this point and placed us in this nation in this season of great opportunity. I have abiding faith that His mighty hand will lead us aright as we take our message of hope to the people of this nation.

I have taken some really difficult decisions in my 55 years on this earth, but choosing to mount this challenge for the presidency of our great nation is the toughest decision I have ever had to make.

I believe that every generation faces its defining moment – and for us, this is our moment. A moment when our country’s motto: “Unity and faith; peace and progress” no longer holds meaning for citizens.

In place of unity in diversity, we are faced with divisions, the likes of which we have not seen since the Civil War. The ruling political class stokes divisions between the “97% and the 5%”; their failed policies widen the inequality between the haves and the have-nots.

Instead of faith in our can-do spirit and a shared vision of our future, Nigerians across the country suffer a suffocating hopelessness and despair. Our young people have given up; abandoned their hopes and dreams. They are leaving the country in their numbers every day. What a tragedy!

Instead of peace and safety, our humanity is assaulted daily by killings, violence and kidnappings from Jos to Dapchi, from Afara to Zamfara.

Instead of progress, our country now appears to be marking time; stagnant or declining on all the most important indices. The few opportunities available are cornered by a greedy political elite.

Ladies and gentlemen, the choice before us at this moment is clear. Do we wither in the face of this unsustainable cycle of failure by successive administrations? Do we sit content on the sidelines while our country and our people move closer and closer to the tipping point of economic, security, political and social collapse?

I have a message today for the forces of the status quo and their defenders – Enough is now finally enough. We would no longer watch Nigeria be consumed in the flames of a mediocre political class that bumbles from one crisis to another and fails to live up to its responsibilities.

I offer myself to lead a people’s movement that will permanently terminate bad leadership, ethnic and religious divisions, mediocrity and failure in governance in Nigeria.

I bring a message of hope. A hope that a stable, progressive and prosperous society is possible. A hope that together – with the support of those in this room and the millions who will join us on this historic journey in the coming weeks and months – we shall remove any barrier standing in the way of the #NewNigeriaOfOurDream. We shall begin by pulling down the stronghold of the two failed dominant political parties – #PDPAPC. We will disrupt the politics of this nation, displace the old order and replace them with a new movement of visionary and dynamic leadership that will mobilize Nigerians to build a new nation.

The #NewNigeriaOfOurDreams which we will build from 2019 will be measured on four planks of progress. As president, I will not take my eyes away from any of these four planks at any time:

  1. A high standard of living which we shall measure by real GDP per capita. It is a pity that Singapore which got its independence five years after Nigeria now has a real GDP per capita of $60,000, while Nigeria’s GDP per capita as at 2017 was $1,944
  2. A high knowledge capital which we shall measure by adult literacy. Today, the adult literacy in Singapore is 98%, while adult literacy in Nigeria is just 57%
  3. A high longevity which we shall measure by life expectancy at birth. Today, Singapore’s life expectancy is 85 years, Nigeria’s life expectancy is a mere 52 years
  4. A strong, resilient, sustainable and thriving nation which we shall measure by the fragility index. Today, we are the 13th most fragile country in the world. This is beyond unacceptable.

Let us not forget that the current government promised to create three million new jobs yearly, but under its watch we have seen more people lose jobs. Unemployment and underemployment have actually risen to 40% of the population. We can and we will do better. As senior economic adviser for the Open Society, I have advised some of the most reform minded governments on our continent. I served for five years as the Vice President of the World Bank in charge of the Bank’s operations in 48 countries. I know what sound economics that creates jobs and produces prosperity looks like. I know what it takes to build a productive and competitive economy. It is time to get our country and our country men and women working again.

Let us not forget that this government promised to kill corruption before it kills us, but under its watch the culture of corruption continues to fester under a regime of favoritism. There is no comprehensive strategy to the fight. There is not even a sincerity to it.  We can and we will do better. As co-founder and pioneer director of Transparency International, one of the foremost anti-corruption organizations in the world, I ruffled feathers without fear or favor. As the head of the Due Process office under the Olusegun Obasanjo government, my team cleaned up the public procurement and contracting process in Nigeria. Some of the most sustainable transparency laws in Nigeria today have my imprint – from the public procurement to NEITI.

Let us not forget that this government promised to keep Nigerians safe and secure. But crime, violent conflicts and insurgency are on the rise. We can and we will do better. As president, the dignity of the Nigerian life will be at the centre of everything I do. My approach to security will be holistic. There is the militaristic intervention which we will take seriously, but just as important is a preventive intervention to crime, an economic intervention, as well as a climate and sustainable development intervention. The situation in the Middle Belt which has resulted in the sad loss of thousands of lives this year alone is one such issue that will receive the necessary holistic response from my government once and for all.

This government does not want to reform the NNPC and make it an efficient company we can all be a part of and be proud of, but that is exactly what we shall do from 2019. The current ruling class is afraid of diluting the excessive powers in the presidency and taking the difficult decisions in the oil sector that will benefit our children. Under my watch, the private sector will be positioned as the key to the productivity and expansion of the economy.

This government does not understand the power of disruptive technologies – the world is leaving Nigeria behind. The world is going through a 4th Industrial Revolution with profound changes that will basically change the world as we know it. How can a country gifted with millions of young, vibrant, brilliant people, be satisfied with just being onlookers at a time like this? It ought not to be so, and it will not be so under my leadership. I believe in the miracle of new, smart and disruptive technologies – from Artificial Intelligence to Quantum computing to Big Data and the Internet of things – to accelerate our productivity and global competitiveness. Under my leadership the young shall have their moment to demonstrate  that they have the skills and attitudes to lead the rest of the world through knowledge.

My government will substitute oil focused governance with human capital governance. Today we have 13.5 million kids out of school. That’s a ticking bomb and things must change. Under my watch, education will be the new economy; education will be the new oil.

Make no mistakes about it, the economy that this administration will be handing over to us in 2019 will not look pretty. The skyrocketing debt burden they have foisted on us, the serious fiscal crisis and the deep structural imbalances that they have done little or nothing about will await us from Day ONE. As frightening as that realization is, think about what a great opportunity it will be for Nigerians to demonstrate our can-do spirit. Think about the effect that visionary leadership can achieve when the whole country is mobilized to sacrifice and work hard to achieve speedy recovery that benefits us all. That is exactly what we will do. What a great comeback story that will be!

But it’s not just about this government. This government is part of an evil ruling class, including those who were in the PDP, who then went to the APC and are now in the PDP again, asking for our votes. What do these people take us for – fools?  Enough is enough of these #APCPDP Siamese twins.

Their mantra for governance is #TheEliteFirst or #ThePowerfulFirst or #TheGodfatherFirst. Our mantra for governance is #CitizensFirst.

Let me tell you something you will be hearing a lot when I become president: Equality of opportunity. Get used to it. Equal opportunity for all – for young people and older people. Equal opportunity for women and men. Equal opportunity for those from my region and those outside my region. Equal opportunity for all means equal opportunity for all. No exceptions. No parochialism. No favoritism.

I believe with all my heart that wherever you turn to in this nation, you can find hardworking Nigerians with character, competence and capacity. You can find them in the North. You can find them in the South. You can find them in the East, and you can find them in the West. Men and women with character, competence and capacity. Those are the kinds of people that will form my inclusive team from Day ONE in a historical #ProjectRescueNigeria that will birth the #NewNigeriaOfOurDream.

Ladies and gentlemen, my solemn commitment to Nigerians are not empty words. I have three decades of proven integrity and excellence at the highest levels of private sector, civil society, international development and government to show that a vote for me is a vote for capable and competent leadership. It’s a vote for the character, competence and capacity that I and you have longed for for so long, and have not gotten.

The roles I have occupied throughout my career were never just jobs to me; they were purpose-driven assignments. And now, the season has come for me to take on a new assignment to help lead our country out of the morass of governance failure.

In the last few weeks, I have gotten calls, received text messages and verbal advice from well meaning people who have said to me: “Oby, why not sit this one out? 2019 is too close and there is not enough time for a campaign.” They want me to wait till 2023 when – they think – I stand a better chance of winning.

I have had calls, texts and advice from some other well intentioned people who are concerned about what this race would do to me as a person. They have seen how Nigeria’s political arena has ridiculed so many great people who dared to run in the past. They are worried that it would do the same to me, maybe reduce my voice, affect my reputation and my career. I have heard all and I appreciate all those concerns.

But my running for president is not about me. This campaign is not about Oby Ezekwesili. It’s about a nation that is yearning for hope of what can be. If my strength fails me at the time my nation needs me the most then I have no business running in 2023 or any other year.

Those who know me know how much I hate politics, but I had to ask myself this time: “What do I hate more than politics?” I realized that my dislike for politics is nothing compared to how much I hate bad governance. I do not know much about politics but I know about empathy and caring for people and the serious issues that matter to people. And right now, our people have hit a level of despondency that I have never seen before. What is my career and reputation in the face of such despair? I am ready to put it all on the line. I will run this race the way I have done everything in my life – with values which are non-negotiable. I am not running because I am in a good position to win, I am running because Nigerians need a champion, and I desire to be that champion. And I hope I would not run alone.

So if you are tired of a government that does not work for your prosperity, join us.

If you are tired of a system that is rigged by the 1% of our political class against the 99% of citizens who simply ask those who lead them to create the right environment that supports their hard work, then join us.

If you are tired of small thinking and unintelligent governance; a leadership that ignores the power and productivity of women and young people, join us.

If you are tired of the exploding debt that leaves nothing for investment in our future; then join us.

If all you desire is a Nigeria that will guarantee hope, progress and prosperity of its people, then join us, support us, stand with us, and let us make progress together.

The time is now, my fellow Nigerians, to take our destiny in our own hands. Let us dream big dreams and do big deeds together. Let us band together to make Nigeria a country that inspires its citizens, inspires Africa and inspires the world. Let us make this country a place of boundless dreams, boundless opportunity, and boundless hope. We cannot turn back, and we must not waver.

Fellow Nigerians, I come with #HOPE2019.

God bless you all. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Here’s Why Nigeria May Experience Scarcity Of Rice In 2019

Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, has hinted that the country may experience rice shortage if appropriate measures are not taken to replant after the recent flood.

The minister is said to have made this statement in Abuja on Thursday at the inauguration of National Agricultural Seed Council (NASC) Molecular Facility and the 2018 seed fair and Farmer’s field day.

He said that the flood had affected some major rice producing states, adding that the country might experience scarcity of rice, if not addressed.

His words: “We have to find out a way to assist farmers, who were affected by the flood; places like Jigawa, Kebbi, Anambra and Kogi were majorly affected. Farmers lost everything they planted.”

“There are different varieties of rice that are being produced at NASC like faro 66 and 67 which are flood tolerant.

“We hope to get them into the field in large quantity for farmers to plant in the near future.

“We are also hoping that as soon as the rain seized, we are encouraging farmers to replant so that the residual moisture on the soil plus irrigation can give us another crop by the end of December or early January.

“Otherwise, we will be in serious trouble for rice, millet, sorghum and maize next year.”

Don’t Dump APC Because You Lost – Buhari Begs Losers

President Muhammadu Buhari has pleaded with all the aspirants who lost out in the primary elections of the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to abandon the party.

Bishop Kukah Says “No World Leader Is As Irresponsible As A Nigerian President”

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, the president pleaded with them to demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship.

He advised the aspirants to learn from Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos state, who lost his reelection bid but accepted it in good faith.

The statement read: “In every competition, someone has to win and someone has to lose, but those who lost should not abandon the party or lose their enthusiasm for the advancement of the party.”

“The larger interest of our party is greater than our individual ambitions, and we should, therefore, work together for its success, despite our losses.

“In politics, we shouldn’t lose hope permanently because tomorrow could present another opportunity for us to contest again and win.

“Losers of the primaries should always put the party first because we are in it together to serve the country, and I am always proud of our members who demonstrate sportsmanship and a good party spirit.”

Buhari congratulated the winners and asked them not to mock those who lost out in the race.
