WAEC To Name And Shame Candidates, Schools, Invigilators Involved In Exam Malpractice

The Nigeria Examinations Committee of the West African Examinations Council has recommended that the names of candidates, schools, candidates, invigilators and supervisors caught aiding and abetting examination malpractice should be published to serve as a deterrent for others.

In a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu, WAEC said the decision to publish names of offenders was part of WAEC’s resolutions at its 66th Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) meeting held at Ogba, Lagos on October 10.

The committee is described as the highest decision-making organ of WAEC on examination-related matters in Nigeria and meets twice a year, to consider matters relating to the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates and Private.

2019 WASSCE: WAEC Begins Registration For Private Candidates (See Details) | Apply Here

WAEC through this committee has decided that any candidate, invigilator and supervisor caught involved in exam malpractice will have their names published.

Ojijeogwu said; “Candidates, invigilators and supervisors caught aiding and abetting examination malpractice, WAEC, ANCOPSS and the States Ministry of Education will publish their names to serve as a deterrent for others.

“States Ministry of Education and school principals are to check the ugly trend by looking at the calibre and integrity of teachers nominated as supervisors for public examinations.

“The Committee observed that even with the commendable efforts of the Council in the fight against examination malpractice, the menace is still on the increase.

“There was high rate of impersonation as a form of examination malpractice during the WASSCE examinations.

“In the course of considering the various reported cases of malpractice, the Committee, after diligent deliberations, approved appropriate sanctions in all established cases of malpractice, as prescribed by the Rules and Regulations governing the conduct of the Council’s examinations.

“It approved that the entire results of candidates involved in proven cases, which attract Cancellation of Entire Results (CER) be cancelled, while subject results of those involved in proven cases, which attract Cancellation of Subject Results (CSR), be similarly cancelled.’’

”In addition, some candidates will also suffer other sanctions such as barring them from sitting for the Council’s examinations for a certain number of years, some schools will be derecognised for a specified number of years, some supervisors that were found wanting in the discharge of their examination duties will be formally reported to their employers and blacklisted while some invigilators will be reported to the appropriate authorities for disciplinary action.

The decisions of the Committee will be implemented without delay and the affected candidates and schools duly informed by the Council. However, the results of candidates who were exonerated by the Committee will be released.”

NLC, TUC Set For Another Industrial Action Over Minimum Wage

NLC, TUC Set For Another Industrial Action Over Minimum Wage

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (NUC) have threatened another industrial action following the lingering issue of a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

Details Of Nigeria’s New Minimum Wage Negotiations Revealed

The threat was issued on Thursday, October 11, by the President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, during an interview with newsmen in Lokoja, Kogi State on the sidelines of the commissioning of 1,200 Housing Units for workers by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN),

According to him, workers may soon resume their strike after a meeting soon to be convened on modalities for the action to ensure that they are not shortchanged.

He also berated Minister for Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige, describing his position on the minimum wage as an afterthought that has no place in collective bargaining.

FG To Announce Nigeria’s New Minimum Wage This Week

Wabba stated that Ngige’s position was at variance with the agreement at the tripartite negotiations committee meeting held last week.

On Wednesday, the minister had said there was no agreement on the figure to be paid as minimum wage, as negotiations was still on and this is at variance with labour’s position that the negotiations committee agreed on N30, 000 as the new minimum wage.

But Waba said the issue was sufficiently discussed and a figure arrived at, adding:

“The issue of minimum wage has been concluded and a figure agreed upon and for anybody to say that there was no conclusion on the matter, is not correct.

“It is misplacement of information and, therefore, labour will meet to take appropriate decision.”

Speaking, TUC President, Boboi Bala Kai Gama, said he did not believe that the Federal Government would renege on its earlier promise on the minimum wage.

“Probably, the appropriate information has not been passed out but at the appropriate time, we will release the correct information.

“What we are saying is that the committee set up by government resolved on a figure and the figure will be announced when the chairman of the committee will present the report to President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The minister may be talking for his paymasters, but he should allow the committee to talk and the chairman of the committee is the best person in this regard,” he stated.

Usain Bolt Scores Two Goals In First Start As Pro Soccer Player

The world’s fastest man Usain Bolt has scored twice in his second trial match for the A-League’s Central Coast Mariners to boost his chances of realising his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

The Jamaican eight-time Olympic sprint champion scored the Mariners’ third and fourth goals in a 4-0 win over Macarthur South West and celebrated with his trademark lightning bolt pose.

The first goal was a coolly-taken individual effort while a defensive mix-up gifted him a second in the pre-season friendly in Campbelltown.

“I think I made some slight mistakes but I’m just happy to get the chance and I’m proud of myself,” Bolt told Fox Sports after his withdrawal on 75 minutes.

“Scoring a goal in your first proper match is a big deal. It was a good feeling.”

“I’m happy I could come here and show the world I’m improving. I’m keen to be a Mariner, to play my best and get into the team.”

The decision to withdraw him with 15 minutes remaining – with the prospect of a hat-trick tantalisingly close – was met with predictable boos and he departed to a standing ovation.

“I think I’ve improved in every area,” Bolt said. “I think my touch is that little bit better; my vision needs to improve a little bit more. I think my running off the ball is where I’ve improved most.”

Yung6ix Says “He’s The Only Rapper In Nigeria Right Now”

Popular Nigerian artiste, Onome Onokohwomo, better known as Yung6ix, has said he is currently the only rapper in the country and that no other artiste is doing rap music.

The raving Hip Hop star, who made this known during a show on Hip TV, further added that “it’s a fact” that there is no rap artiste like him in Nigeria.

His words: “I am the only rapper in the country right now. I can’t see anybody doing modern day rap music apart from myself. It’s just the truth. It’s just the fact. They don’t do it like I do it.”

The rapper further disclosed that being a native of the south-south region of Nigeria has been the most challenging thing for him in his career.

“Coming from south-south Nigeria has been the most challenging stuff because when people want to do anything, they keep the south-south out of it,” he said.

“When they want to give awards, they keep us out of it. First of all, which other rapper from south-south has been doing this for the past ten years?

“I had a chance because I came into the industry under the right record label.”

Speaking on the rise and growing influence of the Afrobeats genre, he said:

“When we started, the industry was not on this level. We are past the point where Afrobeats is so big. We are about to conquer the world.”

The More They Vilify Atiku, The More They Demarket Buhari – Ademola Adeoye

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

Two days ago, I said to a few people that it is impracticable for Mr. Garba Shehu to say that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is corrupt and a security threat and we all laughed about it. A few minutes ago, Mr. Garba Shehu released a few lines to the public space, responding to what Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo said (while receiving Atiku and some Nigerian leaders in his Abeokuta home) about the man who puts food on his table.

This piece was written by Ademola Adeoye. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of

Like I did wittily say two days ago that Mr. Garba is not capable of taking Alhaji Atiku to the cleaners, when I read through what he wrote, I nodded that I was right that he is politically-spineless. He only said the PDP is corrupt, not Atiku Abubakar! Mr. Garba can take chief Obasanjo to the cleaners, but he is not able to do so when it comes to the man—who opened the door for him to get to where he is today.

No matter how reckless and power-drunk folks become in the corridors of power, they dare not satirize and skit their godfathers. They can play to the gallery, taking a few people to the cleaners to score some cheap political points, but they don’t joke with those—who are able to uproot them from where they are planted. Politics is like a game, but most Nigerians are yet to understand. Politicians are hardly serious about national affairs. They are only interested in their belly and pocket.

Mr. Garba Shehu said and I quote verbatim—in his letter, responding to the drama that took place some hours ago on the inside of the house of His Excellency, Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo: “We are busy on various national issues including the restructuring and the diversification of the economy, fighting corruption, terrorism and other threats to national security; increasing the availability of electric power, improving education, health, and providing long delayed infrastructure—roads, rail, airports and so forth.” Garba did say that they are busy restructuring Nigeria. While I do not want to say he lied, but it is clear as water that he was not saying the truth, because, how can an administration that does not believe in national-restructuring say it is busy restructuring Nigeria? Nigerians demand to know how the administration of President Buhari is handling the issue of restructuring, because anyone who puts the issue of national-restructuring on the back-burner will lose the coming presidential election!

Mr. Garba also said that they are busy improving the health-sector of our nation. If this is true, why is it that Mr. President does not treat himself medically at home? Why does he go abroad to be treated medically? Why is it that State Governors, Senators, Local government chairmen…travel out of Nigeria to treat even headache? Where were we when the PDP was in power and where are we now? Nigerians want to know. We are sick and tired political-lies!

Also, he said and I quote: “The President will not relent in the war against corruption, because the ordinary people are the ultimate victims if we surrender to corruption and let its perpetrators go unpunished.” One thing Garba Shehu needs to understand is that the soap of anti-corruption war is not going to sell in 2019. Nigerians bought into it in 2015, but now, we do know better. How many APC chieftains have been arrested, prosecuted and jailed since PMB got to power? The fastest way to become a political saint is to cross from the PDP to the APC.

In Garba’s letter, he kept using this disparaging word: “ordinary” for our people. Who exactly are the ordinary Nigerians that Shehu was talking about? I like to quickly correct him that there is no Nigerian who is ordinary. Every Nigerian is precious and priceless. There is no difference in value between the President of Nigeria and the common man. I guess this is one of the reasons why our people are being treated, not as human beings—because the ruling-class thinks they are ordinary. Nigerians demand an apology from Mr. Garba Shehu!

This is where I am coming: The more the supporters of President Buhari vilify Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the more they are de-marketing PMB! Some years back, it was the supporters of His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who made GMB to become popular. They tore Buhari to pieces on social media, television and radio, but the more they did all that, the more the electorates began to fall in love with him. And against all odds, he won the last presidential election!

Since Alhaji Abubakar emerged as Presidential candidate of the PDP, many Buharists have been dragging the man in the mud, saying that he is both corrupt and a security threat. The question is, if he is truly corrupt as Mr. President’s supporters are alluding; why is he walking freely? Does it mean that he is above the law or our law is only for the poor? Also, if Alhaji Atiku is truly a national security threat, why can’t the government of PMB take him in for questioning, prosecute and jail him? Lastly, instead of vainly vilifying the man, I advice that you start selling your candidate to the angry people of Nigerians and maybe they’d buy into him before February, 2019.

30 Fuel Stations Shut Down In Benin For Cheating Customers

The Weight and Measures Department in the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment has shut down 30 filling stations in Benin.

Chief Media Mythology Officer of the Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment, Nwachukwu Cordelia, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Benin on Friday.

Nwachukwu, who was in the state for a surveillance inspection in Benin, Auchi and Uromi, said that the fuel stations were shut due to faulty meter pumps used by petroleum marketers.

“We have investigated about 120 filling stations and some of the marketers are doing well, while some are cheating buyers.

“We had to shut the filling stations cheating buyers and invite them to our office for questioning.

“Most of the filling stations put the blame on tanker drivers, evaporation and task forces that are after them,” she said.

NAN quoted Nwachukwu as saying that the filling stations that were shut down would be opened after an investigation about why they tightened their meter pumps.
