Spain

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar is open to a move back to Barcelona and the Catalan club are thought to be willing to consider the return of their former player. The Brazilian forward is currently unhappy in the French capital, and is worried that he will be overshadowed by World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe at the Ligue 1 side. (El Mundo Deportivo)

Barcelona continue to be linked with a number of centre-backs, and they will look to make a move for one of them in the January transfer window. The club’s first-choice target is Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt, but he will be difficult to get mid-season. Tottenham’s Belgian centre-back Toby Alderweireld is an alternative target, and the 29-year-old is considered a realistic option given that his contract expires at the end of the current campaign, although Spurs to have a year-option in his deal. (Marca)

Another candidate Barca are considering is a short-term loan deal for former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. The 34-year-old Serbian currently plays for Zenit Saint Petersburg, and though the deal may suit Barcelona, it might not be ideal for the Russian club who are looking to return to the Champions League after finishing a disappointing fifth last season. (El Mundo Deportivo)

Marcos Alonso has been offered a contract extension at Chelsea even though his current deal still has over two seasons left to run. A new contract will be signed this month and could be announced within days, tying the player down at the club until at least 2022. Barcelona and Real Madrid have been interested in the Spain full-back, but he would prefer to sign a new deal with Chelsea. (AS)

Italy

Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella is an Arsenal transfer target. The Italian international is wanted by a number of clubs in Italy while Liverpool are also keen on landing the 21-year-old. The Gunners see Barella as a possible replacement for Aaron Ramsey, who is out of contract in the summer. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

Tottenham will rival Juventus and Internazionale for Danish centre-back Joachim Andersen, who could cost up to £30m. The 22-year-old has impressed for current side Sampdoria, who have made a good start to the new Serie A campaign. Inter are favourites to sign the defender who is yet to be capped by Denmark. (Sport Mediaset)

There are yet to be any formal offers for in-demand Chelsea transfer target Krzysztof Piatek, according to the player’s agent. The Polish striker has more than a goal per game for Genoa in Serie A this season, and is attracting interest from across Europe. “There has been no official offer for our player from any club. Many clubs have contacted us in recent weeks, but I cannot name them.” said the player’s representative, Szymon Pacanowski. (CalcioNapoli24)

Turkey

The latest Liverpool transfer rumours have raised the possibility that Divock Origi could leave the club in the near future. The Belgian is yet to feature in a match-day squad this season and Galatasaray and Besiktas are both interested in the striker. (Turkish-Football)

NYSC Extends Online Registration For Batch C PCMs | Bans Benue Varsity Graduates From Service

The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that the ongoing registration exercise for the 2018 Batch C Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) has been extended to Friday, October 19, 2018.

The announcement was made on Tuesday on all its social media platforms.

It said” BREAKING NEWS
This is to inform 2018 Batch “C” Prospective Corps Members that Online Registration has been extended to Friday 19th October, 2018.
Signed:
Management.”

Meanwhile, the Management of the Benue State University (BSU) in Makurdi, has said it is investigating the challenges that led to the banning of prospective corps members from the institution from being mobilised for the mandatory NYSC.

The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the institution, Prof. Msugh Kembe, who spoke with newsmen on Wednesday in Makurdi, said the institution was shocked at the decision of the NYSC to prevent it from mobilising its prospective corps members for service.

He said: ”The NYSC did not inform the management of the institution of its decision before executing it. The organisation did not inform us that it had issues with the current list of prospective corps members from our university.

”On the second of October this year, the Dean of Students reported to me that they could not upload the names of prospective corps members from the university on the NYSC portal. ”The management of the university then detailed the Liaison Officer to write a letter to find out why the university could not upload its list of prospective corps members on the NYSC portal.

“We just got a reply of the letter just few minutes ago, but we are doing our investigation to find out whether the fault is from the JAMB, NYSC or the university. But I assure you that if the problem is from our school we will fish out the culprits and sanction them.

“We have the best forensic expert in the whole of the country from this university and we are going to engage his services to find out those behind this.

”I wonder why the NYSC did not fish out the culprits and sanction them, rather it decided to come down heavily against the whole university.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the prospective corps members from the BSU and other higher institutions in the state had been banned by the NYSC from partaking in the compulsory youths service programme on allegation of falsification of age and other sundry reasons.

Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr Pleased With His Young Players Effort Vs Libya

Featured Image

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has praised the effort and quality of his young players after they secured a very important 3-2 away win against Libya in Sfax on Tuesday

Speaking with reporters after the match ,Gernot Rohr suggested he was satisfied with the team’s performance, despite needing a late winner, in difficult conditions.

The German said: “Today the other team played with more caution at the back. They were aware of our threat on the counter which didn’t allow for them to give us so much space to exploit.

“The pitch here is much smaller in comparison to our home ground at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, a turf which we enjoy playing on, as we express ourselves better due to the space.”

Super Eagles seemed to be in control early on , racing into an early two-nil lead, while playing some eye-catching football.

However, a combination errors from Francis Uzoho and a midfield collapse dragged Libya level with 16 minutes remaining.

Despite the scare, Odion Ighalo scored a composed left-footed 81st-minute match-winner – his brace on the night – as Nigeria moved to top spot in Group E

While acknowledging his players almost blew their chances of going top of the group , Gernot Rohr credited the opposition for handing his young and largely inexperienced Super Eagles team a tough fight.

“It was a demanding second-half and ultimately a difficult victory for us,” he said, “but these difficult victories can help our young team learn in experience and give confidence as we look to take valuable lessons from our latest conquest.

“We played against a very good Libyan team. Despite the loss, they aren’t eliminated just yet and I believe they can still do something in their final two matches.

“Next up for us is a trip to South Africa, where we will look to play a beautiful football match against Bafana Bafana, to achieve our qualification objective,” the manager concluded.

Nigeria Approves Implementation Of “No Work, No Pay Principle” During Strike

Nigeria Approves Implementation Of “No Work, No Pay Principle” During Strike

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the implementation of the no work, no pay principle when workers go on strike in the federal public service.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, said this on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while briefing State House Correspondents after FEC meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, the approval was sequel to the adoption of the Draft White Paper on the Report of the Technical Committee on Industrial Relations Matters in the Federal Public Service.

Ngige said that the public service in Nigeria was bedeviled by problems and conflict areas; hence governments, over time, set up various committees and brought out circulars in a bid to stem industrial disputes.

The minister said that the technical committee, which was inaugurated on April 27, 2016, did their work and submitted it to the FEC in October 2017.

“FEC in turn impaneled a committee of 10, which I chaired to do a government Draft White Paper on those contentious areas that the technical committee had looked at.

“These contentious areas are enforcement of section 43 of the Trade Dispute Act Law of the Federation 2004; this is the section that deals with lockout of workers by their employers without declaring redundancy appropriately.

“Because in some establishments, especially in the private sector, workers are locked out by their employers; so the law there says that if you lock your workers without passing through the normal channel-due process.

“For the period of the lock out, the worker is assumed to be at work and will receive all the remunerations and allowances, benefits accruing to him for the period and that period will also be counted for him as a pensionable period in the computation of his pension.

“But when workers go on strike, the principle of no-work-no-pay will also apply because that principle is enshrined in the same section 43 of the Labour Act.’’

The minister quoted the section as saying that for the period a worker withdraws his services, government or his employers are not entitled to pay.

Quique Setién Flattered By Reports Linking Him As Ernesto Valverde’s Replacement At Barcelona

Featured Image

Real Betis manager Quique Setién is reportedly on Barcelona’s radar as a possible replacement for Ernesto Valverde. Although he takes the rumours as a compliment.

“This is the same thing that was discussed with the Spanish national team. I’m flattered that it has come out, but if we pay attention to everything that comes out… Barcelona have a great coach, you have to respect him, especially colleagues,” said the ‘verdiblanco’ coach in an interview for ‘Canal Sur’.

In this sense, Setién wanted to emphasize in his speech and spoke in favor of Ernesto Valverde: “He is doing a great job and I think Barcelona are looking good, regardless of whether they fail”.

Quique Setién also underlined his concentration on the current Betis season: “I am thinking about Valladolid, that we have to play well and maintain the intensity. I don’t like [international] breaks, you have a string good performances and they cut that streak. That’s what worries me.”

However, Setién again complained publicly about the state of the Betis training camps: “I’m very happy in Seville with a lot of things, but not with everything. There are things that worry me a lot, but it can’t always be repeated”.

“The state of the training camps, as I’ve already told the club, is a very serious matter. We can’t get the pitches to be suitable for work”, he said bluntly.

“We have got the Huddersfield game to prepare for and I will always be there for the team.

“The only thing I can do is wait for my chance and work hard in training. I always try and be ready if I am playing or not playing.

Thierry Henry Hoping To Emulate Pep Guardiola At Monaco

Featured Image

Pep Guardiola will provide the “reference” for Thierry Henry as he begins his managerial career at Monaco.

Pep Guardiola worked with Thierry Henry while both were at Barcelona from 2008-2010, and although he was phased out under him, the Frenchman remains an avid admirer.

As with Guardiola at Barca, Henry’s first job in management comes at the same club at which he started his playing career.

He is widely recognised to have played his finest football under Arsene Wenger at Arsenal from 1999 to 2007 before returning for a brief loan spell in 2012, but it will not be his fellow Frenchman he will model himself on.

Speaking at the first press conference since his appointment at Monaco, Henry said: “Pep is the reference, for me, I’m not saying for everyone.

“There’s no right or wrong; that’s the reference for me. We learnt how to play the game when I went to Barcelona under him. With Pep you can talk about the game; he will not even go to sleep and will still talk about the game, you will fall asleep and he’s still talking.

“The invention he had in the game; he’s well ahead of the game, I saw it closely.

“You learn from people; they inspire you. But you also need to put your own little mix in it.

“Talking about the managers that I had; I learnt with a lot of them, every single one of them. Whether they challenged me, whether sometimes they were doing the wrong stuff; that’s when you learn the most – when things are not going well.

“But if I talked about Arsene, Arsene unlocked a lot of stuff in my mind, made me understand what it was to be a professional, what it was to perform. I will never forget that. You know the relationship I had with him so I will always carry some of the stuff that he was doing.

“A lot of people (also) inspired me in France.”

Henry claimed it was a ‘dream come true’ to return to boyhood club Monaco.

‘When the offer came it was quite logical; my heart talked,’ he explained.

You know the connection I have with one club in London, but this is where I started. This club will always have a big place in my heart.

‘So to be able to come here and start here again is a dream come true, I won’t lie. There’s a lot of work to do, as you can imagine, but I’m more than happy to be here.’

BREAKING: Senate Orders CBN To Suspend ATM Maintenance Charges, Increase Withdrawal To N40,000

Senate Orders CBN To Suspend ATM Maintenance Charges, Increase Withdrawal To N40,000

The Nigerian senate on Wednesday, October 17, directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to inform all commercial banks in the country to increase the maximum amount customers can withdraw from automated teller machines (ATMs) to N40,000 per transaction.
Presently, the maximum withdrawal is N20,000.
The senate also asked the apex bank to suspend ATM card maintenance fees.
The upper legislative chamber directed its committees on banking and finance to conduct an investigation into the propriety of ATM card maintenance charges and to also invite Godwin Emefiele, governor of CBN, to explain why the charges are allegedly skewed in favour of the banks.
The senate gave the directive on the back of a motion sponsored by Gbenga Ashafa, senator representing Lagos east.
While moving the motion, Ashafa said the CBN is becoming “insensitive” to the plight of Nigerians.
Contributing to the debate on the motion, Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, said the numerous charges by the banks are unacceptable.
“If we have institutions in Nigeria, they should make sure to do their jobs to protect Nigerians,” Ekweremadu said.
“Banks should have recognisable charges to let customers know what they are up against.”
The motion was adopted by the senate after it was put to a voice vote by the Senate President Bukola Saraki.

NAFDAC: Malco Vitamin B Complex Injection Banned In Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced the ban of the importation, sale and distribution of Malco Vitamin B Complex injection in Nigeria due to contamination.

The ban was announced in a statement issued by the Director-General of the agency, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, in Abuja on Wednesday

While the drug is produced by Shreechem Pharmaceuticals PVT Ltd, India, Adeyeye said laboratory analysis by WHO indicates that the product is unfit for human consumption.

According to her, the use of the product could cause serious health hazard, urging healthcare providers and members of the public to stop the administration and use of the affected product to avoid negative health complications.

The director-general therefore directed all importers, wholesalers and retailers to immediately stop the importation, distribution and sale of Malco vitamin B complex injection.

She urged anyone in possession of the affected product to submit it to the nearest NAFDAC office.

Adeyeye also advised consumers to report any adverse events related to the use of the product to the nearest NAFDAC office or NAFDAC PRASCOR 20543 toll free.

“NAFDAC has been informed that the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZARMA) has directed International Drug Company (IDC) Limited, Lusaka, Zambia, to recall all batches of Malco vitamin B complex injection manufactured by Shreechem Pharmaceuticals PVT Limited, India.

“The recall is a precautionary measure due to observed particulate materials possibly microbial growth in the bottles of the product.

Usain Bolt Rejects Contract Offer From Maltese Champions Valletta

Usain Bolt has turned down a contract at Valletta.

Usain Bolt rejected a two-year deal with Maltese champions Valletta, HIs agent has confirmed.

Bolt has been trying to earn a contract with Central Coast Mariners and netted twice in a trial match last Friday.

With the A-League season beginning this weekend, Bolt’s future with the Australian club remains unclear.

However, agent Ricky Simms said his client had decided against a move to Malta, with Valletta having gone public in their pursuit of the 32-year-old.

Simms told Omnisport: “There is a lot of interest in Usain playing football. We are regularly approached by clubs from all over the world.

“The only difference with the latest offer is that it was made through the media.

“I can confirm that Usain does not want to pursue the opportunity in Malta.”

Bolt – who retired from track and field in 2017 – has been training with the Mariners since August.

He previously spent time training with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, Mamelodi Sundowns and Stromsgodset

Real Madrid Protest Against La Liga Matches In The United States

Featured Image

Real Madrid are protesting the Liga match between Girona and Barcelona in the United States.

La Liga asked the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for permission to stage the match on 26th January in Miami, Florida, though did receive criticism from both the Spanish Players’ Union (AFE) and the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales.

Permission also needs to be granted by UEFA, the US Soccer Federation and Concacaf for the game to take place – the proposal comes as part of a 15-year-deal with US media giant Relevent.

Real Madrid have now released a statement to the RFEF on their views, saying: “First of all we would like to declare that Real Madrid were never informed that La Liga had requested to play the game nor of the intention to make the request, and we were never asked our opinion on it.

“Nor, obviously, did La Liga obtain Real Madrid’s agreement, despite the fact that this game affects a competition in which we participate.”

‘Los Blancos’ maintain that it is “fundamental” that teams play each other home and away so that there can be “integrity and equality” in La Liga.

Usain Bolt To Be Included In FIFA 19

Featured Image

Usain Bolt will be included on FIFA 19 even if he does not sign a professional contract with Australian club Central Coast Mariners.

Usain Bolt is chasing a full-time deal with the A-League side, and recently scored twice in a trial match against Macarthur South West United.

However, if Bolt does not find a club, he may still appear in FIFA 19 as a free agent and, as expected, will likely be the fastest player on the game.

Speaking to ‘Fox Sports Asia’, a source from ‘EA’ remarked: “If Usain is picked up by the Central Coast Mariners then he will automatically be included in the winter update or the next major update. But if he isn’t listed then he might be included as a free agent.”

“He will also be the fastest player in the game.”

NNPC Reacts To $3.5 Billion Subsidy Fund Claims

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Wednesday, October 17, reacted with a denial to claims that it has in its custody 3.5 billion dollars Subsidy fund.

The Senate had on Tuesday resolved to set up an ad hoc committee to investigate $3.5bn Subsidy Recovery Fund allegedly created by the NNPC and solely managed by its Group Managing Director Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu and the Executive Director Finance, Dennis Nnamdi Ajulu.

However, the NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ndu Ughamadu, dismissed the claims in a statement, noting that at the height of the shortage of products supply at the close of 2017, the National Assembly asked the NNPC to do everything possible to stem the hiccups.

Ughamadu said the corporation initiated the move to raise a revolving fund of 1.05 billion dollars, since the corporation was, and still the sole importer and supplier of white products in the country.

The NNPC spokesman said ever since the fund had been domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria. He added that at no time was it in the custody of the NNPC.

Ughamadu said, “The fund, dubbed the National Fuel Support Fund, had been jointly managed by NNPC, the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the Department of Petroleum Resources, and the Petroleum Equalization Fund.”

Hence, NNPC cannot independently spend a dime of the fund which Ughamadu said was meant to ensure stability in the petroleum products supply in the country.
