N’Golo Kante Will Benefit From Jorginho’s Arrival At Chelsea – Michael Essien

Featured Image

Chelsea legend Michael Essien believes N’Golo Kante will benefit from the arrival of Jorginho at the club because he now has the chance to improve the attacking side of his game.

N’Golo Kante has been an integral member of Chelsea’s midfield since signing from Leicester City in 2016

Kante also played a key role as France won the World Cup in Russia this summer but, since returning to Chelsea, the 27-year-old has seen himself shifted from a holding role onto the right of Maurizio Sarri’s three-man midfield due to the arrival of Italy international Jorginho.

And Essien, who spent nine years at Chelsea, believes Kante’s different role under Sarri will be “good” for the Frenchman because it will allow him to score more goals.

Speaking  to Standard Sport, Essien said: “Anywhere that you put N’Golo, he will play.

“Like you said, he’s playing on the right and he’s getting in the box quite often, which last season he didn’t because he had to stay and protect the back four.

“Now that Jorginho is there, he’s given him more freedom to go forward which is good for him. He can score a few goals hopefully!”

Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho Given More Time To Respond To FA Charge

Featured Image

The Football Association have given Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho an extension to respond to a charge of alleged abusive language.

Jose Mourinho now has until Wednesday at 6pm to respond to the charges, which come from comments he made to television cameras after United’s 3-2 comeback win against Newcastle at Old Trafford.

The original statement read:  “It is alleged that his language at the end of the fixture, as captured by the broadcast footage, was abusive and/or insulting and/or improper.”

Mourinho will now be free to stand on the sidelines as the ‘Red Devils’ take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as the deadline was originally Friday at 6pm.

The Manchester United manager had been under immense pressure ahead of the Newcastle fixture after a poor run of results, with several newspaper outlets claiming he would face the sack regardless of the final score.

When asked if he had responded to the FA’s charges, Mourinho replied: “Yes I did, but I don’t comment”, then, when questioned if he felt victimised by the charges, the Portuguese answered:  “If I answer to your question I probably have another process, because I cannot imply bias, so my answer is no answer.”

On having to play on Monday night

I prefer to play Saturday or Sunday. It [playing on Monday] has the advantage for more time to prepare the match – that’s one positive.

After, we are going to play Thursday, we are going to play Sunday also, two matches very quickly after Leicester. For me it’s not an excuse because we are preparing for Monday.

For us this match against Leicester has the same importance as the other matches, above all because I think the difficulty now is to not relax.

After winning six games in the Premier League, we need to continue to be demanding in each match and think about the next match as the most important.

On Ramsey saying he wants to stay until end of season – is that good news?

For me January is very far [away]. I’m thinking about Monday’s match first. I want every player to stay OK, with the mentality to prepare, to play and [be] together to win.

On if Ramsey could still stay at Arsenal

It’s the same, my answer. My focus is on every match. The football, the future is tomorrow. My reason, I explain to every player and to you also, I want the mentality for the next match. Individual things are not for me to speak about now.

On if Ramsey is still part of his plans

I want his performance like the other players. For example, in the last match he started on the bench, then he played 25 minutes with this performance. On Monday it’s the same if he starts in the first XI or on the bench, to come with the focus for this match to help us. It’s not different [than it is] for other players.

On if Ozil will struggle to motivation after retiring from international football, as Arsene Wenger suggested

We need every player with a very big motivation every day in training and to continue improving and to continue helping us with his quality. It’s the same with Mesut. The motivation is very important for us. We want to find this motivation every day from every player.

On if Aubameyang came back early from international duty

He didn’t play the last match [for Gabon]. Today he’s training with us like the other players who are working here. He played 45 minutes against the under-23s for us today.

I think it’s good when he’s thinking also to play one match with the national team and then rest to stay better with us.

On the fans signing ‘we’ve got our Arsenal back’ and if he expected to make such a big impact at Arsenal so soon

I am not agreeing totally with the response of the supporters. I think we need to improve a lot. I think we have to continue doing a lot of the things to get better. Our demands need to be very high.

The supporters can enjoy it with us but also we’re speaking with our reality every day.

We need to improve because for example the match against Fulham was a very good result and a very good game for 90 minutes. But in the first 45 minutes I thought we needed to do better.

If we are remembering the last match at the Emirates [against Watford], we won but not playing like we want, with the control against the opposition. For me now, the most important thing is not to rush.

The next game against Leicester is very big, very difficult. Leicester are a very good team and play with a clear identity under Claude Puel. They are very competitive, have very good players and we need every single player, and our mentality together to be stronger than in the last match.

On if he’s brought a winning mentality

This is one process: to work every day and not the possibility to say now we have a winning mentality. We need to continue improving, continue creating in our way.

The strong mentality is [to show] each minute, each ball, each moment of the 90 minutes to show every supporter we are deciding to win with our example on the pitch. We need to give every action with that mentality. This process is very hard, very long and this is the way to do it together.

Also with the supporters, we are stronger with them helping us, like for example against Fulham and in every match at the Emirates.

On Cech’s injury

Petr Cech is getting better from his injury but he’s not training with the group. But I think he’s very close to start with us.

On if he’s changed targets for season based on team performing so well

We need to continue working calmly in our bodies and our mentality. Our target now is the same as in the first matches. The first two matches we lost, against Manchester City and Chelsea. But after six matches winning in the Premier League, it hasn’t changed.

Also with the supporters, we are stronger with them helping us, like for example against Fulham and in every match at the Emirates.

On Cech’s injury

Petr Cech is getting better from his injury but he’s not training with the group. But I think he’s very close to start with us.

We need to continue working calmly in our bodies and our mentality. Our target now is the same as in the first matches. The first two matches we lost, against Manchester City and Chelsea. But after six matches winning in the Premier League, it hasn’t changed.

[We need] this calm because we [beat] a lot of opposition teams with very [poor] performances. We need to stay with the best tams in the Premier League. To stay with them, we need to do better and get better at different things.

On Jamie Vardy’s threat and if he likes him as a player

He’s a very good player. He has talent, his speed [helps] for the counter-press. On Monday we will not want to give him possibilities to continue scoring against us.

Chelsea Women’s Captain Karen Carney Responds To Sickening Abuse She Received On Social Media

Featured Image

Chelsea Women FC captain Karen Carney says the abuse she and her team-mates have received this week on social media is “abhorrent, totally unacceptable and very upsetting”.

Karen Carney has been supported by sports figures including Chelsea men’s manager Maurizio Sarri, England women boss Phil Neville and the Football Association.

Carney was the victim of disgusting messages that wished despicable things such as cancer and rape on her after scoring the decisive penalty in her team’s 1-0 Women’s Champions League clash against Fiorentina.

In response to the abuse Carney released a statement on social media: “I would like to take a moment to address the vile messages aimed at myself and my team-mates on social media this week.

“This kind of abuse is abhorrent, totally unacceptable and very upsetting. It was swiftly reported by the club as is standard practice. I now trust it will be dealt with by the correct authorities to ensure this doesn’t happen again to either myself or anyone else.

“I would like to thank all those who have offered messages of support, including the fans, media and others within the game.

“I’d also like to thank Chelsea and the FA who were swift to report those responsible to both Instagram and the police.

“I’d now like to concentrate on preparing for our game against Birmingham on Sunday.”

It was England Boss Neville who highlighted the abuse 133-cap international Carney had received, sharing an Instagram post which wished “cancer, leukaemia and rape” on her.

He shared a further post on Friday directed towards an unnamed England Women international, which included a rape threat and a follow-up message suggesting it was “headline” grabbing.

Instagram removed the account responsible for the first messages as the company does not “tolerate threatening or abusive behaviour”.

Manchester City Name Training Pitch After Former Goaolkeeper Joe Hart

Featured Image

Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart described the “huge honour” at having a training pitch at Manchester City named after him.

Manchester City have honoured former goalkeeper Joe Hart by naming a training pitch after him.

Hart joined City from Shrewsbury Town in 2006 and won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup, before departing in a permanent deal for Burnley in August this year.

City announced that the pitch will be situated in the club’s 80-acre City Football Academy, with Hart unveiling a mosaic depicting his celebrations from the club’s 2011-12 title success designed by Manchester artist Mark Kennedy.

“Having the goalkeeping pitch at the City Football Academy dedicated to me is a huge honour,” Hart said via a City news release.

“Manchester City has been a huge part of my life and my career, and I’m immensely proud of what I and my team-mates achieved in that period. There have been some incredible goalkeeping legends throughout Manchester City’s history, and I feel privileged that the club has chosen to recognise me amongst that number.”

City’s announcement was made to coincide with Hart’s return to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday when Burnley make the trip to Manchester.

The England goalkeeper may have failed to convince Guardiola he is capable of playing his preferred style of football, but the City boss spoke highly of his achievements at the club during a news conference on Friday.

“I think there is no doubt how important he was and is,” he said. “Tomorrow you will see how people appreciate what he has done for this club.”

Hart will be presented with his own replica of the mosaic and a lifetime season card by club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak following Saturday’s game.

“It is truly fitting to mark Joe Hart’s outstanding contribution to Manchester City in such a visible way,” said Al Mubarak.

“During his 12 years with the club, Joe not only produced some incredible individual displays, but also celebrated great success as a member of the club’s most decorated team in decades.

“His Manchester City legacy is assured and it is hoped that this tribute will serve to inspire future generations of goalkeepers who train at the City Football Academy dreaming of replicating his remarkable career.”

Press Conference: Every Word Form Chelsea’s Boss Maurizio Sarri Ahed Of Premier Leage Clash With Manchester United

What is the team news? Is Rudiger fit to play?

“The usual after the national teams, there are some problems. So now we have the most serious, I think, is Ampadu. Then we have a little problem with Hudson-Odoi, and a little problem with Barkley.

“But with Odoi and Barkley it’s only a question of one or two days. The injury for Ampadu I think is serious. I don’t know how much, but serious.

“We hope to recover him in a couple of weeks. Rudiger has done better in the last two days, like Kovacic. I think they will be able to play.”

Are you hopeful for Eden Hazard to sign a new deal?

“But of course. Of course. Eden is a fantastic player. It will be important for us if he remains with us. Very, very important. But I think also that he can win everything, possibly a Ballon d’Or, here. Without playing in Spain. Because, for example, Chelsea will be able to win the Champions League. Belgium could win the European Championship. He could win everything, without playing in Spain.”

Ramon Calderon claimed Hazard is being kept at Chelsea ‘like a slave’…

“I don’t know what to say. [Laughs]”

So you’re denying that one…

“I don’t think he is [being kept here like a slave, Sarri laughs]. In the last three months, I have seen him always very happy. So I don’t think so. It’s nothing.”

Are Chelsea playing a better style now than under Mourinho?

“I don’t know. I don’t know because we are talking about a coach who has won everything. He has won everywhere. So I think that I have to respect him. But I think, also, that you all have to respect him.”

Last year Conte and Mourinho had arguments, what do you make of Mourinho’s approach?

“I think he’s a very good coach, a very good manager, one of the best in the world. So I don’t know the problem with Antonio. I think that, on the pitch sometimes, we are a little bit nervous.

“A little bit tense. You can say everything in that moment. But I think that it’s not important, but I think Conte respects Mourinho and vice versa.”

What do you make of the social media abuse Chelsea Women’s player Karen Carney received?

“I think, first of all, I watched the last match against Fiorentina. She’s a very good midfielder, I think. She scored. About the situation, what can I say? It’s not acceptable. It’s disgusting. I don’t know what else to say.”

Is social media abuse a concern for you, for both men and women?

“I’m not used to using [social media]. I think you can use social media, but only for working. Not for socialising. I have a problem to speak with my friends on the phone because I like very much to speak to them face to face, to have dinner together. So I don’t know what to say. It’s not my world. I don’t know.”

Is Mourinho getting the respect his deserves?

“I don’t know. I think not. At the moment. But I’m not really sure. I try… I don’t want to read anything because I know very well that, in football, especially for a coach, we have positive periods and negative periods. And in a negative period, I want to think only with my mind. And so I am trying not to read anything.”

Have you been surprised with United’s start?

“A little bit, but I think it can happen. We are talking about only eight matches. They are doing well in the Champions League, so they have the opportunity to improve in the Premier League. We are talking about two months.”

Do you think Mourinho will look to stifle Chelsea?

“I think so but I think also they are a very strong team. Maybe, player by player, they are the best team in the Premier League.”

Better than City?

“At the moment I think City are better as a team, but player by player, they are really very, very strong. So I don’t know if they will play us or try and play their football.”

Have you told Hazard that he can win the Ballon d’Or here?

“Not at the moment, because I have seen him for the first time in the last two weeks only yesterday. But I want to tell it to him very soon.”

Is there more to come from Chelsea this season?

“I think I’m really, really happy with the results. But I think we need to improve. And I think also we can improve. We can improve because we have had no time to work. I had eight players only at the beginning of August.

“Then we have started to play every three days. So it’s very difficult to work and very difficult to improve the team and the players. I think that, in the future, we can improve and we need to improve.

“To improve more on the performance on the defensive phase because, at the moment, we are giving too many opportunities to the opponents. So we need to improve, I think.”

Andreas Christensen’s father says the defender wants out of the club in January…

“The father? I’m not interested… the father? No. What can I say? I think that, in the first part of the season, David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger have played really very well, so it’s not easy to change. I think, also, that in our last six matches, Christensen has played in three of them. So I think, for his father, it’s not improtant. But, for us, it’s not important.”

What more can he do?

“He is very young. I think he has to improve. But I think that he’s a technical defender, so I think he is suitable for me and my way of football. I think that, in the future, he will be available to play very often.”

Do you still have patience with Alvaro Morata?

“I think that they don’t know me very well. I am not able to think on the market at the moment. I am completely focused on my team, and improving my players. In the last month, I think Morata has played better. In the last three days I have seen him very well in training, very very well.”

Mourinho Reveals What He Will Do If Manchester United Beat Chelsea Tomorrow

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has maintained that he will be on his best behaviour on his return to Stamford Bridge, even if his side inflict Chelsea’s first defeat of the season on Saturday.

The Portuguese won three Premier League titles in two successful spells in charge of Chelsea, but has lost all three of his previous visits to Stamford Bridge as United manager without even scoring a goal.

And while Mourinho claimed that the fixture is now just like any other as far as he is concerned, he also conceded that he would not celebrate should United break that run to ease the mounting pressure on their manager.

“For me, it is another game,” said Mourinho. “Would I celebrate like crazy my team’s goal at Stamford Bridge or my team’s victory at Stamford Bridge? I don’t think so.

“I think I would try to control myself and to respect the stadium and the supporters that were my supporters and stadium for many years.”

Mourinho clashed with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte when he claimed the Italian had showed a lack of respect for whipping the home fans into a frenzy during a 4-0 thrashing of United in 2016.

The visitors are desperately in need of a win this weekend as they already trail Premier League leaders Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool by seven points after just eight games.

“I want to do well for my team, players, support. I am 100 percent Manchester United tomorrow – no more space for anything other than respect for the stadium and the fans,” added Mourinho.

Beware! Cloned Certificates, ATM Cards Now In Circulation –Police Alert Nigerians

The Commissioner of Police, Anti-Fraud Unit, Federal Criminal Investigation Intelligence Department (FCIID) Ikoyi- Lagos, Dan Okoro, on Thursday raised alarm over many cloned certificates and ATM cards in circulation.

Mr Okoro raised the alarm while briefing journalists in Lagos on the discovery of some cloned certificates by a syndicate, which specialised in printing fake documents of banks, government and corporate organisations.

He said that the syndicate had been using the cloned documents to defraud banks, government, corporate organisations and individuals, stressing that some bank officials were collaborating with the suspects for the crime.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that among documents cloned by the syndicate included CBN, presidential clearance certificates, IMF and court documents.

“I advise members of the public against cloned certificates, ATM card and other important documents currently in circulation. I want members of the public to keep their pin numbers, passwords and ATM safe.

“We have some documents recovered from one suspect arrested. We are investigating the documents and some bank staffers allegedly collaborating the syndicate.

“It is only the bankers that have details of every deposit in the bank. Our investigation revealed that some bankers give information to the syndicate on how much customers have in every account.

“The syndicate cloned documents and transferred such money to another account, particularly, accounts with ATM cards are their easiest target.

“Many crimes are going on in different banks, unfortunately, the bank management will not allow the public to know about it because they want to keep their customers trust,” he said.

Mr Okoro said the unit was able to detect some of the documents through the assistance of a foreign cyber security firm based in Lagos using forensic analysis equipment to unravel the identities of the syndicate members.

He noted that cyber crime was a global challenge, stressing that the unit was synergising with the foreign firm for capacity building for officers and men in the unit.

The commissioner said the suspect arrested was currently in the hospital after he collapsed during search of his house and many incriminating materials, including hard drugs were discovered.

“The suspect is a web site designer. He designed many of the cloned documents. We are on the trail of other members of the syndicate,” Mr Okoro said. (NAN)

“Boko Haram Will Be Destroyed” – Buhari Boasts

President Muhammadu Buhari has boasted that his government will destroy members of the Boko Haram sect.

The president stated this while hosting some entertainers of the Northern Nigerian extraction, Kannywood, to a dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday evening.

According to him, it was wrong for any individual or group to be killing innocent people and destroying properties under the guise of doing it for God.

The President who spoke in the Hausa language said the Federal Government would not allow any group hiding under religion to unleash terror on innocent citizens.

He said those who are killing in the name of God were either ignorant or they don’t believe in God.

His words:  “It is totally wrong for any believer in God to kill innocent people either in the mosque, church or the marketplace.

“You cannot be shouting Allahu Akbar (Allah is Great), Allahu Akbar, and be killing innocent citizens and destroying properties all in the name of God.

“It is either you don’t know what you are saying or you don’t even believe in the existence of God Almighty.

“God has nothing to do with injustice.

“So, now we are confronting them and by the grace of God we will destroy them.”

Nigeria To Present N8.6trn For 2019 As Udoma Speaks On Budget Calendar

Nigeria To Present N8.6trn For 2019 As Udoma Speaks On Budget Calendar

Nigeria’s Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, has casted doubt over the returning of the country’s budgeting cycle to the traditional January to December calendar any time soon.

Bear in mind that the Muhammadu Buhari government had promised this during the campaign.

But the minister is reported to have said that he does not see the administration achieving that feat in the 2019 appropriation yet to be presented by mid-October.

Udoma said this in Abuja while unveiling the projections of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Policy Strategy Paper (PSP) for 2019 to 2021 to an audience, comprising the organised private sector, media and civil society organisations.

The minister revealed that the executive arm of would present N8.651 trillion for 2019 against the current N9.12 trillion fiscal document, citing low revenue.

The minister disclosed that the budget will be anchored on 2.3 million barrels per day (mbpd) oil production based a $60 per barrel benchmark.

The budget is also predicated on an exchange rate of N305 per dollar, 9.98 per cent inflation rate and N139.65 tillion nominal gross domestic product (GDP).

He doubted if the National Assembly could treat the proposal expeditiously in view of the electioneering era.

The minister noted: “It might be difficult for this particular budget (2019) to do the January to December life cycle because of the electioneering year. It might be difficult for the National Assembly to do that now.”

The current budget was approved around late May this year and signed into law by the president mid June.

‘Buhari’s Chosen’ NHIS Boss Suspended Again

‘Buhari’s Chosen’ NHIS Boss Suspended Again

Barely nine months after he was reinstated by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof. Usman Yusuf, has been suspended indefinitely.

Bear in mind that Yusuf, who was suspended by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, in July last year and indicted for an alleged N919m fraud, was controversially reinstated by Buhari on February 6, 2018.

In a letter with a reference number, ‘SH/COS/10/6/A/29’, signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, the President had informed the minister of Yusuf’s recall, adding that he (Yusuf) had been “admonished to work harmoniously with the minister.”

However, the governing board of the NHIS on Thursday announced the indefinite suspension of Yusuf and appointed Sadiq Abubakar as the acting executive secretary.

During a briefing in Abuja, the Chairman of the NHIS board, Dr Enyantu Ifenne, accused Yusuf of insubordination, fraud, arbitrariness and other corrupt practices.

Ifenne said, “The council has met. We have been inundated with petitions. We also observed some executive infractions that we cannot ignore, especially in an administration that is committed to transparency and accountability like Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“So, with detailed examination or review of some of these documents, the council has made some landmark decisions. The first decision is that we have resolved to constitute an administrative panel of investigation immediately to examine the issues at stake.

“This administrative panel has three months to complete its assignment and report back to council to decide on the way forward.”

She said Yusuf was suspended to allow for unencumbered, unfettered space to do a thorough investigation.

“Also, I want you to know that we consulted and got the approval of the Honourable Minister of Health because we came to this decision,” she added.

Asked if the council had such powers, Ifenne responded:

“Our power is derived from the law. We base our decisions on the provisions of the law. We base our decision on the provisions of the law that allow NHIS governing council to take expedite and appropriate actions to make sure that the objectives of the scheme are achieved.”

Fielding questions on what the council would do, should the Presidency overrule its decision and reinstate Yusuf as it did earlier, Ifenne said she didn’t envisage such an action.

Leicester City defender Harry Maguire. wants to Play in the Champions League

England defender Harry Maguire is focused on Leicester City but said he wanted to play in the Champions League.

Maguire, 25, was linked with a move to Manchester United over the summer

While the centre-back said he simply wanted to keep performing for Leicester, Maguire has a desire to play in Europe’s elite club competition.

“I’m an ambitious player,” he told The Premier League Show. “If you’re not an ambitious footballer, you’re in the wrong game really.”

“Everyone wants to play at the top level, everyone wants to play in the biggest tournaments in the world, so obviously the Champions League is one.”

Maguire arrived at Leicester from Hull City in 2017 and made his international debut soon after. Despite the speculation over his future, Maguire feels he owes Leicester.

“I want to concentrate fully on Leicester this year. See where it takes the club and see where we go from there,” he said.

“The platform they gave me to go and play at a World Cup is something I’ll never forget, so it’s a big part of me wanting to show something back.”
