Ngige told State House reporters yesterday that the policy was passed by the National Assembly in 2004 and that Obasanjo assented to it.

“The issue of no-work, no-pay is not a new thing, it is an existing law passed by the National Assembly in 2004 and assented to by Obasanjo.

The law protects both employers and employees. We are just re- echoing it. It is not anything punitive or new, it has been around since,” he said.

After the meeting, he said President Muhammadu Buhari would transmit a bill on the new national minimum wage to the National Assembly for consideration and passage. He said the National Assembly would organize a public hearing on the bill to enable the public contribute to the draft law.

Dammy Krane Talks About Current Relationship With Wizkid, Orezi And Tuface

Popular Nigerian Musician Dammy Krane has revealed that he no longer holds any grudge with Wizkid, adding that the duo are now friends again after a much-publicized burst up between them some time ago.

Seun Kuti: Fela’s Son Nominated For Grammy Awards

The duo were very close pals during the early stage of their careers but that ended in 2016 after the duo reportedly exchanged blows in the popular Lagos club, Quilox and since then the two singers have not been seen in public together until this year when they were pictured together.

It was reported then that the fight ensued because Dammy Krane alleged that Wizkid stole the song, Baba Nla, from him after paying him a visit at home.

However, during a chat with The Punch, Dammy Krane revealed how he reconciled with his old pal.

He said, “Wizkid and I went to an event and from there we went out together. It was from there that we became friends again. I have forgiven him because it is just one song and we would still do songs together. We would still do one or two things together but you need to understand that we are all getting to different stages of our lives.”

Speaking on the misunderstanding he had with fellow music artiste, Orezi, because the latter replicated his hairstyle, Krane disclosed that Orezi had apologised to him.

“If you know Dammy Krane very well, you would know that I joke with a lot of things but people tend to take them seriously. I do not think we had any problems; only miscommunication. Orezi has already apologised to me because he understood that it was miscommunication. Everything that happened during that period was miscommunication,” he said.

Krane also said that he still maintains a cordial relationship with his former boss, Tuface, even though he is no longer with his record label.

Krane said, “I have a great relationship with Tuface and I have a learnt a lot from him. He is more like a mentor to me in the industry; I have learnt a lot about humility and hard work from him and he is also a God-fearing person. He taught me how to be a businessman as well.”

NNPC Speaks On Funding Buhari’s Re-election Campaigns

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has reacted in denial to a report making the rounds that its Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru, authorised cash transfers  to the Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation in support of the president’s re-election campaigns.

The NNPC denied the allegation in a statement signed by Ndu Ughamadu, its spokesman, and issued on Friday, October 26.

According to the statement, the GMD never authorised any “phantom cash transfer” for the purpose of sponsoring publicity for Buhari ahead of the 2019 elections.

The statement said the allegation was not only “patently false but runs against the prevailing gale of transparency and accountability pervading the operations of the NNPC since the advent of the current administration”.

The NNPC noted in the statement in Abuja that the allegations that Baru made such transfer was a, “politically induced hallucination which has found accommodation in the subconscious of some mischievous political actors intent on dragging the corporation and its GMD into the arena of partisan political tussle.”

‘’With no regard for the cherished investigative reporting ethos of balance and confirmation of story, the allegation, without doubt, come across as a kindergarten  execution of an ill thought political brinksmanship.

The NNPC urged well-meaning members of the public and oil and gas industry stakeholders to “disregard the phantom report”.

The corporation said the management of the NNPC under Baru is “focused on delivering the aspiration of Mr. President for the petroleum industry.”

LAUTECH Bows To Pressure, Reduces Hiked Tuition Fees

After much pressure, the management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has reviewed downward the increment in students fees it announced in July.

Outrage On Twitter As Buhari Fails To Provide WAEC Certificate To INEC

The institution had earlier announced that students who are indigenes of Oyo and Osun states will pay N200,000 while non-indigenes will pay N250,000 effective from the 2018/19 session.

Students of the institution had opposed the tuition hike with simultaneous protests in Ogbomosho and Osogbo.

Apparently influenced by these protests, the university through a mail to the students on Friday from the office of the Registrar, Jacob Agboola, said the increment has been reviewed downward.

“This is to inform all students that after an extensive and exhaustive consultations with stakeholders, the Governing Council has magnanimously directed that the tuition fees payable by all students with effect from the 2018/2019 Academic Session be reviewed as follow,” the statement read.

“Indigenes of the Owner-States of Oyo and Osun (100-500-Level): N140,000.00 per session. Non-indigenes (100-500-Level) : N170,000.00 per session.”

The registrar also noted that the new tuition fee will be effective by 2018/2019 Academic Session.

Evans Reveals How SARS Operatives Killed 30 People While Torturing Him

Evans Reveals How SARS Operatives Killed 30 People While Torturing Him

Suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, better known as Evans, on Friday, narrated how he was allegedly tortured by members of intelligence response team of the inspector general of police (IGP) and the special anti-robbery squad (SARS).

The suspected billionaire kidnap kingpin recounted this at the continuation of a trial-within-trial at an Ikeja high court in Lagos where he is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping alongside six others.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that before Evans’s testimony, a five-minute, 33-second video recording was played in the courtroom.

The video recording showed Idowu Haruna, a member of the Inspector General of Police IGP,’s intelligence response team, sitting beside Evans cautioning him and taking his statement.

However, Olanrewaju Ajanaku, Evans’s lawyer, queried the validity of the recording, saying the video was doctored.

While being led in evidence by Ajanaku, Evans described how he was tortured by police officers after his arrest.

He said, “Insp. Haruna (member of IG’s Intelligence Response Team) took me to Abuja and brought me back to Lagos, where I was at the I-G’s Guest House at Obalende, Lagos.

“Sunny, the 2 I/C (second in command) to Abba Kyari, Head of the IRT, Mr Christian Ugu, Mr Phillip and other police officers working with them were there.

“Haruna brought about 25 sheets of paper and asked me to sign; that day, my mind told me not to sign because it might be my death warrant. Phillip put his hand in his pocket and brought out a brown hospital card; showed it to me and told me to sign it, saying that ‘do you think that we are joking here?’ he said if anything happens to me here, this card covers everything.

“Phillip said the police will not be held responsible, and before I knew, Ugu slapped me and that was how they started beating me.”

The alleged kidnap kingpin gave more details to the court on how the police officers tortured him and made him witness executions in a bid to get him to admit to his crimes.

He said: “Mr Ugu was smoking, he quenched the cigarette on my hand. My lord, look at my head where they beat me; My Lord, look at my hand.

“They took me to the backyard of the I-G’s guest house; I sustained injuries on my head and body, and Phillip asked the policemen to walk on me and when I started bleeding, he said you think we are joking here.

“At the backyard, I saw some people that I was paraded with; they were wearing leg chains. Some of them had bullet wounds on their legs and Phillip ordered Haruna to bring a big brown cellotape, handkerchief and poly bags.

“Haruna forced a handkerchief into the mouth of one of them; he used the cellotape to tightly tape his mouth and face and put a poly bag over his head and cellotaped it, and used another poly bag and cellotaped it for the second time, and they left the man on the ground.

“The man on the ground was shaking; he pissed (urinated) on his body, he poo-pooed (defecated) on his body and, after a while, he went quiet. Haruna went to the man and stepped on his body and he was unresponsive and he told me can you see I have travelled him.”

Evans told the court that four more persons were executed in the same manner by the police officers in his presence.

“I was brought before them, and I started begging, asking them what do they want me to do, and they told me to cooperate with them, and I said okay that I will do anything they wanted me to do.

“Phillip asked them to take me to the house, and he asked if I knew the method of killing and I said no; they said that it is called ‘Saddam Hussein’.

“He said that there is no way an autopsy can predict the cause of death of the five people they had just killed, and that those people have travelled.”

Evans said after witnessing the execution, the 25 sheets of paper were brought for him to sign by the police.

He noted he was trembling with fear and Sunny, the second in command to Abba Kyari, head of the IGP IRT, asked Haruna to offer him a can of cold Fanta.

“When the Fanta was given to me, I drank it and after a few minutes, they brought the 25 sheets of paper for me and I signed them,” he said.

“Some things were written on some of the sheets of paper while some were blank; that was how I was forced to sign the confessional statements.”

On cross-examination by Titilayo Shitta-Bey, Lagos state director of public prosecution (DPP), Evans confirmed his name and the names of his parents, and denied knowing the officers before his arrest.

“I am 38-year-old, I was born on April 29, 1980; my mother’s name is Mrs Chinwe Onwuamadike and my father is Mr Stephen Onwuamadike,” he said.

“I did not know Insp. Haruna, Abba Kyari, before my arrest; I’m the one in the video, I was cautioned in the video, but after the cautionary words, I was forced to sign. The story I told the court was never an afterthought, SARS killed more than 30 people in my presence; the killings took place at the I-G’s guest house in Ikoyi.

“On the day I was arrested, I was arrested in my house and I was taken to Ikeja SARS Station; journalists were there; they had beaten the hell out of me in my house, I was interviewed by the journalists on Sunday, a day after I was arrested on Saturday.

“When I was taken to the station, there was a field; I was in a car while I was waiting for Abba Kyari to come. Kyari, when he came, told me to beg for forgiveness in my interview with journalists, and also to inform the world I had cancer which I don’t have. The police killed one Felix Chinemeri in my presence.”

After listening to the submission of Evans, the trial judge, Hakeem Oshodi adjourned the case until November 23 for continuation of defence in the trial-within-trial.

Chelsea Manager Maurizio Sarri Not Worried About Misfiring Strikers Alvaro Morata And Olivier Giroud

Featured Image

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri said he had no concerns over his strikers, but he hopes Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud can start scoring.

Chelsea striker Morata has been criticised for his performances this season, having scored three goals in 12 games, while his teammate Olivier Giroud is yet to score in 10 matches.

While Sarri hopes for a turnaround in form from his forwards, his focus is on his team as a whole – and Chelsea have scored at least once in each of their past six games.

“We know the characteristics of Giroud. Usually he does not score a lot of goals in a season but he is always very useful for the team. So Giroud is not a problem for us,” he told UK newspapers.

“Morata has scored two goals for us in his last five matches, but I think they will be able to do better. The most important thing is that we continue to play this football.”

Sarri added: “One month ago we were concerned about the fact the midfielders weren’t scoring. Now in the last three matches they have scored good goals.

“I think if we are able to continue to play this football, maybe the strikers will be able to score.”

Chelsea Fear No Premier League Team This Season – Willian

Featured Image

Chelsea winger Willian says that the club’s impressive start to the Premier League season under new manager Maurizio Sarri is a sign that they have no one to fear this season.

Chelsea travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Sunday with as one of the division’s three unbeaten sides at this point

A late Ross Barkley leveller against Manchester United last time out ensured that record remained intact and Willian believes that goal proves that Sarri’s men have what it takes to compete for the Premier League title this season.

“We know how important it is to play big games and to score in the last minute (against Manchester United) was amazing,” he told ‘Soccer Saturday’ in an exclusive interview.

“We have no one to fear in the Premier League this season, we have a team who will fight until the end and I am sure we are going to do that.

“It’s been a very good start, we’ve played good football and it’s all credit to Sarri.

“The way he works, it is all about playing good football and he has given us more opportunities to show our quality more.”

It had looked like the Brazilian was destined to leave the capital in the summer amid serious interest from Spanish champions Barcelona and the player unsettled by a difficult relationship with former boss Antonio Conte. However, the arrival of Sarri has brought a new-found unity to the Chelsea dressing room, according to the 30-year-old.

“I am not here to criticise other managers or how they worked because every manager has a different philosophy,” he explained.

“Now everyone can see Chelsea is a good team; he [Sarri] is a very positive guy – very intelligent, a very good manager who talks all the time with us.

“Sometimes he has a lot of fun and jokes sometimes which is good to keep the atmosphere high.”

Jurgen Klopp Says Virgil van Dijk Will Thrive As Liverpool Captain

Featured Image

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp backed defender Virgil van Dijk to continue to impress after he was handed the captaincy against Red Star Belgrade.

With Jordan Henderson injured and James Milner returning from a hamstring problem, Klopp asked his players to select a new skipper and vice-captain for the Champions League clash.

Van Dijk, 27, was picked to wear the armband, while his Netherlands team-mate Georginio Wijnaldum was second.

Klopp, whose team host Cardiff City in the Premier League on Saturday, talked up how much leadership he had in his squad, and said there was still room for improvement from Van Dijk.

“I really think Milly and Hendo are doing an outstanding job for the club and the team. Being ambassador for the club on one side and impressive for the team on the other side is brilliant. They combine pretty much everything,” he told UK newspapers.

“When I came in I built a players’ committee. There were five, six players including Lucas Leiva, Adam Lallana and Phil Coutinho. This team has grown now and they all have very, very demanding and confident players in the squad so you can decide who of them you want.

“It was a close decision. Dejan [Lovren] was close, Adam was close. They all had their votes. The players see it in the right way – that the players could do the job.

“Virgil is still young. He looks more of a man than he really is. There is nothing wrong with that and he can still improve. If you see and hear him, you think there is a big distance between him and you because he looks quite impressive.

“It is good for him to have this responsibility and there will be a day for sure when Gini will wear the armband. He will be very proud of that as well.”
