Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mrs Stella Uchegbu, FRSC Sector Commander in Ebonyi, said that two buses were involved in the accident.

According to her, the command’s rescue team moved to the scene of the accident immediately they received a distress call about the incident.

She said, “28 persons, comprising 21 male and seven female passengers, were in the two buses but four male and two female occupants died on the spot.”

The FRSC boss said that nine passengers who sustained injuries were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki for medical treatment.

She said that the remains of the dead passengers were deposited at the hospital’s morgue, as she attributed the accident to “speed violation,” adding that the two vehicles had a head-on collision.

Uchegbu said that one of the buses, marked ‘Peoples Choice’, was from Taraba, while the second was a Mitsubishi L300 bus.

FG Holds ‘Peace Talks’ On Minimum Wage With Nigerian Labour Tomorrow

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, says conciliation on the national minimum wage will continue on Sunday despite the court injunction restraining organised labour from embarking on strike.

The National Industrial Court had on Friday ordered the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) labour not to go ahead with the nationwide strike scheduled for November 6.

Justice Sanusi Kado gave the order in a ruling on an ex parte application moved on behalf of the federal government by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Dayo Apata.

Court Bans NLC, TUC From Going On Nationwide Strike On Nov 6

The unions had threatened to commence an indefinite strike on November 6 to press for a new minimum wage of N30, 000 for workers.

The minister in the statement, however, insists that the conciliation meeting involving organised Labour, the organised private sector and government scheduled for Sunday remain unchanged.

“The conciliation meeting involving the Organised Labour, the Organised Private Sector and Government scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 4 at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation by 6 p.m. is still on course and will hold,’’ he said.

Mr Ngige said this would be followed by another meeting of the National Tripartite Minimum Wage Committee meeting on Monday, November 5 at the same venue.

The minister appealed to all tripartite members to attend the meetings in the interest of the nation and finding a solution to the minimum wage impasse.

Two Global Banks Dump Nigeria

Two Global Banks Dump Nigeria

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has revealed that two global banks – HSBC and UBS – have closed their offices in Nigeria, even as it added that foreign investment had fallen sharply from a year ago.

Naira Reacts As CBN Injects Fresh $210m Into Forex Market

According to a report made available on Friday, November 2, the apex bank said foreign direct investment in Nigeria fell to N379.84bn ($1.2bn) in the first half of the year from N532.63bn ($1.7bn) a year earlier.

Reuters reports that It however did not give reasons for the banks’ closure.

The central bank said the outlook for the Nigerian economy in the second half was “optimistic” given higher oil prices and production but rising foreign debts and uncertainties surrounding the 2019 presidential elections were drawbacks.

Investor confidence in the country has been shaken since the central bank in August ordered MTN to bring back $8.1bn to the country, part of the profits the South African telecoms firm sent abroad.

A HSBC research note dated July 18 said a second President Muhammadu Buhari term “raises the risk of limited economic progress and further fiscal deterioration, prolonging the stagnation of his first term, particularly if there is no move towards completing reform of the exchange rate system or fiscal adjustments that diversify government revenues away from oil.”

The CBN also said three lenders failed to meet its minimum liquidity ratio of 30 per cent, without naming them.

It added that non-performing loans had dropped to 12.4 per cent as of June 2018 from 15 per cent a year ago, still a long way above its five per cent threshold.

“To further consolidate on the improvement, the Central Bank of Nigeria directed banks to intensify efforts at debt recovery, realisation of collateral for lost facilities and strengthening their risk management processes,” it said in the report.

Eden Hazard fit?

“I don’t know. Eden yesterday he had a large part of the training with the team. It may be he will not be ready for 90 minutes yet. It was the first part of training for a few weeks. He might be able to play for 40/45 minutes.”

From the start?

“I don’t know. I want to speak with him first.”

N’Golo Kante, how is he after the Leicester crash?

“I don’t know, I haven’t spoken with him about what happened. For him it is not very easy moment, of course. I don’t know exactly as I haven’t spoken with him about what happened at Leicester.”

Not worried about his state of mind?

“No, I am not worried because he is able to play in the same way with every mental condition so I am not worried.”

11 games unbeaten would be a record. Big moment for you?

“I don’t want to think about the record, we have to only think about the match and to gain points. The record is only a consequence of the result, of the match. I have to send the message to my players that only this match is the thing that is important. The rest is a consequence.”

Were you expecting it to go so well at first?

“No because in every experience I have had before I have been in trouble in the first two months. I thought it would be the same here. I think here I was lucky because my players were able to win without a very good level of tactical organisation.”

Have you got a named captain?

“As we have seen in the last matches, the captain is Cahill, like in the last match. When he isn’t on the pitch our captain is Azpilicueta. Our captain is Cahill.”

Have your team sorted themselves out defensively?

“No, no. In the last match against Derby they played a very good match. I think we played well in the offensive phase, many mistakes in the defensive phase.

“It is clear that we have to improve in the defensive phase. I am used in the first months to have problems like this. At Burnley I saw a very good performance defensively and three days after I saw a lot of mistakes. It means we are not a solid team at the moment with continuity, it is dangerous.”

Has Ross Barkley surprised you?

“In the first week I saw some matches of Chelsea and Everton as I wanted to see him on the pitch. He has a great technical quality, from the physical and he is improving after the injury of last season. He improved from the tactical point of view. He is becoming a very, important for this team. Not only for us but for English football as well.”

Will he be an important player for England?

“Yes. I think so.”

Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Has he improved enough to start?

“He has improved, but he needs to improve more from the tactical point of view. The rest is good. He has great physical characteristics, he is fast, solid, he has impact, great characteristics. Technically he is very good and I think if he wants to play like a midfielder he has to improve in the defensive phase. But the potential is great.”

How closely did you look at other candidates for captain?

“Cahill was the captain last season. I spoke with his teammates and they all told me he really was a very good captain.”

Will Gary Cahill and Loftus-Cheek stay?

“Ruben in October played four matches out of five. I think at the moment the situation is not for a loan, I think. Cahill, it depends on him. He played very often in the last seven or eight matches. I don’t know. It depends on him and the club. For me Cahill is very important on the pitch and out of the pitch.”

Jose Mourinho Wants Anthony Martial To Stay At Manchester United

Featured Image

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has expressed his desire for in-form Anthony Martial to stay at the club, just a few months after he was ready to sell him.

With reports the Frenchman’s sale would be used as collateral to sign Ivan Perisic before the start of the season, his recent turn of form has prompted a change of heart from Mourinho.

Despite recently rejecting a new contract offer, Martial has nevertheless stated his desire to remain.

In the lead-up to Saturday’s trip to face AFC Bournemouth, the Portuguese manager also expressed his desire for the 22-year-old to stay at Old Trafford.

“I don’t belong to the discussions of contracts,” Mourinho said. “I’m not participating in these kinds of discussions. Obviously I hope they will agree.

“Obviously I would like him to stay. I know the club wants him very much to stay. Hopefully he is going to stay.”

Scoring four goals in his past three Premier League matches, Martial has become a solitary spark for an otherwise grim Manchester United in possession.

With Nemanja Matic commenting on Martial’s confidence impacting performance earlier in the week, Mourinho believes he is making the leap to realised potential.

“One thing is that he’s a talented player that everybody knows he is. Everybody knows since he was in Monaco that he is a talented player,” Mourinho said.

“Another thing is a talented player with consistency and understanding what a football match is in the globality. When you reach that level, or when you are almost reaching that level, is when you become a top player.

“One thing is a top talent, another is a top player. He is now much closer to being a top player.”
