On how he is feeling ahead of the Sporting game

We are finding our focus. This competition is very important for us, it is a title and one way into the Champions League next year.

And the second focus is in our work. For continuing to improve and taking responsibility and confidence.

And above all I want to continue for 90 minutes with our supporters and with the same spirit like the last matches against Leicester, Blackpool and Liverpool.

Tomorrow is a very good test for us.

On what to expect from Sporting

They are a team with very good players and also a very good history. They changed the coach but for them it’s a very big match and a very big test in this competition in their thinking about getting the first position against us.

We will go into the game with big respect for them to do a big match with our personality.

On team news

At the moment we continue to have injuries for Mavropanos and Koscielny, he is getting better training with us.

Nacho [Monreal] we are taking precaution with him because we don’t want to repeat the same injury. He is starting to train but not doing all with us. He isn’t in the group for tomorrow.

On Laurent Koscielny – How long until a return

The most important thing is his feeling every day. He can feel better each training with us.

He is closer to being with us in competition games. But at the moment we are calm, we are happy with him and he is feeling well.

I think he is getting better every day. We are going to think after the international break about how we are going to start with him to play games.

On whether being one win away from qualification will make a difference to who he plays against Sporting

Of course, the first mind for us is to finish first in the group.

Tomorrow is a very important match because it is against the second team in the table and if we win we are first in the group.

That is our clear target tomorrow.

Liverpool Players Have To Take Responsibility For Red Star Defeat – Adam Lallana

Featured Image

Adam Lallana admitted Liverpool players have to take responsibility for the Champions League predicament they now find themselves in.

A 2-0 defeat to Red Star Belgrade leaves Liverpool needing a victory against either Paris St Germain in the French capital in three weeks or Napoli at home in their final group game.

At the moment they stay top of the table on six points courtesy of goal difference and there still remain a number of permutations which will see them qualify.

However, it would be preferable to avoid a nail-biting Anfield finale which would require them to beat the Serie A side by two goals to overturn their head-to-head record against Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

“As players, we’ve got to take full responsibility and make sure it doesn’t happen again,” he told LFCTV.

“It’s still in our hands: if we win our next two games we go through, but that was a great opportunity missed for us.

“(It’s going to be) very tough. That’s the Champions League – there are no teams that enter this competition that give you wins.

“It wasn’t like us and we need to move on and improve if we’re going to go through to the knockouts.

“Of course there’ll be a reaction. It’s not the first time we’ve lost games, it’s about how you react and bounce back, but we’re thoroughly disappointed to come away (from Belgrade) with nothing.”

“It was a slow start all round really and we gave them far too many opportunities, especially from set-pieces,” added Lallana.

“We had chances but we weren’t ruthless enough, weren’t patient enough. It’s not like us.

“It’s on us to take responsibility and we need to bounce back in the next two games.”

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde gave Malcom his fourth outing of the season on Tuesday night and the Brazilian was able to break down the Inter defence and score past Samir Handanovic, before running to the corner with tears in eyes

It was a tearful moment for the winger as he let out all the emotion he’d been feeling after only having played 105 minutes since his summer move from Bordeaux.

“My dream is beginning,” he said after the match, discussing his emotional night.

“My dream is to make history and to do great things.

“I have to thank the group for their confidence in me.

“I want to play more.

“Every day I train in order to demonstrate that I have enough quality to be with this group.

“Nothing has been easy in my life.”

Ernesto Valverde Explains Lionel Messi’s Absence Against Inter Milan

Featured Image

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has said that he simply ‘could not risk’ selecting Lionel Messi for Tuesday’s Champions League match with Inter Milan at San Siro.

Lionel Messi travelled with Barcelona to Italy for the Champions League game , and it had been thought that the Argentine would be included on the bench having returned to training last week.

The Argentine suffered a fractured arm less than three weeks ago, however, and Valverde was not prepared to take the risk, despite the attacker being ahead of schedule in his recovery.

“We couldn’t risk Messi. Training isn’t the same as playing. We talked about it and he understood,” Valverde told reporters.

NYSC: Corps Members’ Monthly Allowances Increased In Ebonyi

The current serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed in Ebonyi state are currently receiving the increased monthly allowances granted them by the state government.

This disclosure was made by the Chairman of the NYSC governing board in the state, Mr Charles Akpuenika, when speaking with NAN on Tuesday.

Bear in mind that Governor David Umahi, during his recent visit to the scheme’s orientation camp in Afikpo, had promised to increase the corps members’ monthly allowance from N5, 000 to N10, 000.

However, he noted that the claim could be verified from the NYSC.

Akpuenika, who is the state Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, said the corps members had continued to send messages of gratitude on receiving the increased allowance.

“It is also noteworthy that the governor also released the sum of N400 million for the rehabilitation of the NYSC orientation camp to ensure that its environment is more condusive,” he said.

The commissioner said that the road leading to the camp was being constructed with concrete as directed by the governor while the streetlight installation was also ongoing.

“The hostels, parade ground and other facilities are also being reconstructed as the governor is determined to support the NYSC scheme to achieve its objectives.

“Ebonyi should rank as one of the states where corps members enjoy such largesse as the governor realises the importance of the scheme to national development,” he said.

Mrs Ann Ibe, the NYSC State Coordinator in Ebonyi confirmed receipt of the increased allowance by corps members and thanked the governor for the kind gesture.

“Corps members started receiving the allowance before the beginning of November and this would motivate them in effectively discharging their duties to the fatherland.

“The rehabilitation of facilities at our orientation camp has fully commenced as promised by the governor and we want to publicly attest to this kind gesture,” she said.

Tottenham Striker Fernando Llorente Targeting Return To La Liga

Featured Image

Fernando Llorente has hinted he is ready to leave the Premier League and return to Spain after struggling with his form at Tottenham Hotspur

Llorente has only had one season in Spain since 2013, the 33-year-old having played in Italy with Juventus, before time with Swansea City and now Spurs.

The striker has only started 11 matches in all competitions for Tottenham since his move in 2017, Llorente finding himself playing second fiddle to Harry Kane in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

And with his current deal set to expire in June, Llorente has hinted a return to Spain would be his preferred option.

Speaking to reporters after Tottenham’s 2-1 Champions League win over PSV, he said: “I’ve been away from home for many years, I’d love to go back to LaLiga.”
Llorente came on against PSV to help Spurs come from a goal down to earn a crucial victory, setting up Kane for Tottenham’s equaliser with a well-placed header.

And he hopes his performance can be the start of more game time under Pochettino as Spurs challenge on four fronts.

“I came on and things went well, so I’m happy to have helped the team,” he added.

“I hope I continue to have opportunities, it’s important for me because it gives me the confidence to keep working, it’s not easy when you do not play because mentally you have to be very strong to continue training hard.”

Ian Wright Tips Manchester United To Upset Juventus In Turin

Featured Image

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has tipped Manchester United to beat Juventus in Wednesday night’s Champions League clash in Turin.

Paulo Dybala scored the only goal of the match as Juventus recorded a 1-0 win at Old Trafford in the first leg on October 23.

The Old Lady are seen as the strong favourites to triumph once again, having won 13 of their 14 matches in all competitions this season.

Juventus have also only lost twice at home since October 2017, but Wright has tipped United – victorious in their last two Premier League matches – to triumph “if they are up for the fight”.

“They have had their noses bloodied plenty of times already this season – now it’s time for Manchester United to dish out a bruising of their own,” Wright told The Sun. “And if they are up for the fight, make no mistake about it, I wouldn’t say this could be the night they turn their season around, I’d say it will be.

“Juventus away in the Champions League, games don’t come much tougher than facing the team many fancy to be lifting the trophy on June 1 next year. But if you can come out of it with a result or, at least a performance to be proud of, then it really is one which can transform your entire campaign.

“Maybe not having the pressure of being favourites, of being at home with the expectation of taking the game to opponents, will see them express themselves a little more. Let’s hope so, anyway, because they do have the talent in the team. There were green shoots in Alexis Sanchez’s performance at the weekend and Anthony Martial is red-hot right now.”

Nigeria To Resume Export Of ‘Zobo’ Plant To Mexico

Nigeria To Resume Export Of ‘Zobo’ Plant To Mexico

The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) has said that the country would soon resume the export of hibiscus, popularly known as Zobo, to Mexico.

This disclosure was made by Dr Vincent Isegbe, the Coordinating Director, NAQS, while speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to him, in 2017, Nigeria exported 1,983 containers of hibiscus to Mexico alone and earned $35 million within nine months of that year.

He added that NAQS had initially suspended the export following the detection of storage pest in some consignments from Nigeria.

”The issue has now been taken care of. That is why we are resuming the export of the plant again.”

Isegbe also revealed that the issue was resolved in collaboration with stakeholders across the value chain, adding that Mexico is the largest importer of Nigerian hibiscus.

“Nigeria is ready to resume export of the plant to Mexico. In a couple of weeks, we will resume shipments.

”Our farmers are eager and the fields are near ready. The harvest season of hibiscus will start any moment from now.

“And the good news is that Nigeria has a vast growing belt, with harvest available all year round.

“We need to take advantage of this opportunity to earn foreign exchange for the country and support the present administration’s diversification of the economy,” he said.

United States Hedge Fund Complete Purchase Of French Club Bordeaux

Bordeaux have been sold by media company M6 Metropole Television to Los Angeles-based hedge fund General American Capital Partners (GACP), the French firm said on Tuesday.

“M6 Group has today finalised the sale of the Football Club Girondins de Bordeaux to the U.S. investment fund General American Capital Partners (GACP) for €100 million,” M6 said in a statement announcing their results for the first nine months of 2018.

M6 bought the French club in 1999 and hoped to bring back the glory days of the 1980s when Bordeaux won three league titles and two French Cups with Alain Giresse, Jean Tigana and Marius Tresor.

Under M6, however, they won one league title, in 2009, and one French cup, in 2013.

“A page turns for M6, a new one opens for the FCGB,” M6 president Nicolas de Tavernost said on Twitter.

“I wish great success to the new management team and thank all the Girondins for these 19 years. I will remain a fervent supporter of [Bordeaux].”

16 Nigerian Soldiers Missing As Boko Haram Fighters Overrun Military Base

No fewer than 16 Nigerian soldiers have been reported missing following clashes with Boko Haram jihadists in the Lake Chad area, military and militia sources told AFP on Tuesday.

The news agency reported that the incident began when gunmen in several trucks attacked a military base and a local market in the town of Kukawa late on Monday, briefly forcing troops out of the base.

“Our soldiers engaged the terrorists in a fierce battle following the attack.

“So far, 16 soldiers are missing, but search teams are combing the general area to locate them,” a military officer told AFP from Maiduguri.

There were no immediate reports of casualties on either side, but a civilian militia group confirmed that 16 soldiers were missing and also said one civilian had been killed in the crossfire.

The attack came hours after Boko Haram jihadists attacked soldiers in Kumshe village near the border with Cameroon.

Last month, two Nigerian soldiers were killed when troops on foot patrol stepped on a mine around Kumshe.

Boko Haram has intensified its attacks on military targets in the northeastern states of Borno and Yobe in recent months.

The nine-year jihadist conflict, which has spilled into Niger, Cameroon and Chad, has killed 27,000 people and left some 1.8 million homeless in Nigeria alone.

UNILAG Shut Down As Lecturers Join ASUU Strike

The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), University of Lagos Chapter, has shut down in its attempt to ensure total compliance with the strike directive given by the union’s national executive committee (NEC).

The Chairman of the Chapter, Dele Ashiru, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, November 6, in Lagos.

“Buhari Didn’t Endorse N30,000 As Nigeria’s New Minimum Wage”

According to him, the chapter held a congress on Tuesday during which members resolved to join in the industrial action.

ASUU NEC, on Sunday, declared a nationwide indefinite strike at a meeting at the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

The union is protesting poor funding of public universities, non-implementation of the 2009 agreement it entered into with the Federal Government.

It is also protesting alleged government plans to introduce tuition fees and an education bank.

“We have achieved 100 per cent compliance with the directive handed to us by the union’s executives,” he said.

On the appeal to ASUU by the federal government to shelve the strike and return for negotiation, Ashiru said that the plea was late.

“Government’s appeal is coming late because we gave them more than six months’ notice prior to our action.

“We even addressed the press on this, begging the government to see reasons with us, but it refused.

“Now, we have reached a point of `no return’ until government meets our demands substantially,” the unionist said.

Bear in mind that students of the institution are on vacation and were slated to resume studies on November 18 for the first semester of the 2018/2019 session.

“Buhari Didn’t Endorse N30,000 As Nigeria’s New Minimum Wage”

The Presidency has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s remark when he received the report of the Tripartite Committee on the Review of National Minimum Wage was misinterpreted by the media.

Speaking on Tuesday, a presidential source, who preferred not to be named, said the president did not endorse N30,000 as proposed by committee as being reported by some sections of the media.

He, however, stated that President Buhari had expressed his commitment to ensuring the implementation of a new National Minimum Wage, Nigerian Guardian reports.

“But the president’s speech at the event was immediately made available to the media and nowhere indicated that the president endorsed N30,000 Minimum wage.

“It is not the duty of the president only to endorse a new national minimum wage. The process involves the Federal Executive Council (FEC), the National Economic Council (NEC) and the National Assembly.

“It is imperative for us to always avoid misinterpreting a written speech,’’ he added.

It would be recalled that President Buhari had pledged that the Federal Government would soon transmit an Executive bill (on National Minimum Wage) to the National Assembly for its passage within the shortest possible time.

He said: “Our plan is to transmit the Executive bill to the National Assembly for its passage within the shortest possible time.

“I am fully committed to having a new National Minimum Wage Act in the very near future.’’

Harry Kane Wants Wayne Rooney To Captain England In International Send-off Against USA

Featured Image

England captain Harry Kane has welcomed Wayne Rooney’s temporary return to the team for the friendly against the United States and has offered to give the armband to the Manchester United legend

Wayne Rooney, who last appeared for England in November 2016, is being recalled for a farewell appearance at Wembley on Nov. 15, when he will win his 120th cap.

Some have argued that Rooney’s one-off return will deny time to a player who could help England in the future, but Tottenham striker Kane disagreed.

“I think it’s great,” he said. “It’s a really good thing that everyone should be a part of.

“Wayne was one of the greatest ever players to play for England, the greatest goal-scorer to play for England, so why not give him the send-off he deserves?

“I’ve not spoken to [England manager] Gareth [Southgate] too much about how he’s going to do it or how long he’s going to play, but it’ll be great to see him again and I’m sure he’s looking forward to seeing a few of the boys

“It’s a great experience to have for the younger players in our team, so I think everyone should get right behind it and it’ll be a great send-off.”

Kane said he would be happy to hand over the captain’s armband, adding: “Of course, he deserves it. He was a great captain for us — he was captain when I got into the squad — so if he plays of course he’ll be the captain.”
