The 2018 edition of Eloy Awards (EA) is expected to hold on November 25 at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Lagos.

Falz Sues NBC For N100M As ‘This Is Nigeria’ Hits 15M Youtube Views

Popular Nigerian singer and rapper, Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana has filed a lawsuit against the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for placing a ban on his song; “This Is Nigeria.”

The award-winning music act filed the court documents through his lawyers, Adepetun Caxton-Martins Agbor & Segun (ACAS-Law), on November 6, 2018 – that is three months after the NBC sent a letter to JODAJ Global Communications Limited in Jos sanctioning them for playing the song and banning the song from being played on radio, along with some other songs.

NBC Fines Radio Station For Airing Falz’ “This Is Nigeria,” Olamide, Wande Coal’s Songs

In the letter sent to JODAJ Global Communications Limited, NBC stated that the reason for banning This Is Nigeria is that the lyrics are vulgar and in contravention of the NBC Code.

The development stirred outrage on social media as a lot of Nigerians, including celebrities, slammed the Commission NBC for the ban.

Falz also declared in an interview that he would write to the NBC to seek a justification for the ban and if necessary, seek legal redress in the courts. He has stayed true to his declaration by taking legal action against the regulatory body.

The singer who is also a lawyer is seeking, among other things, for:

1. A declaration that the Defendant’s prohibition of the Plaintiff’s song titled “This Is Nigeria” from being aired by the Nigerian media outfits on the pretext that same is laced with vulgar lyrics is in flagrant breach of the Plaintiff’s right to the freedom of thought, conscience and expression as guaranteed under Sections 38 and 39 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and to that extent, such prohibition is unconstitutional, null and void.

2. An Order of this Honourable Court setting aside and/or vacating the decision of the Defendant as contained in the letter dated 6th August 2018 and lifting the ban or proscription of the use of the Plaintiff’s song titled, “This Is Nigeria” by any and all Nigerian media outfit/organizations.

Ice Cube Digs Trump In New Song ‘Arrest The President’

The legendary N.W.A. rapper, Ice Cube, on Friday, November 9, released a new politically charged song called ‘Arrest the President’ – which appears to be aimed at the US President Donald Trump.

This new single is the first material to arrive from his upcoming new album ‘Everythang’s Corrupt’, which is released on December 7 via Interscope.

Listen below:

While Ice Cube doesn’t explicitly mention Trump by name, it touches on some of his administration’s scandals including its controversial immigration policies and the probe into collusion with Russia.

“Arrest the president, you got the evidence/That n***a is Russian intelligence/When it rains it pours,” Ice Cube raps.

“Did you know the new white was orange? Boy, you’re showing your horns,” the rapper continues, referring to Trump’s oft-mocked skin tone.

“Let’s meet at the White House/Run in and turn the lights out/ They treat it like a trap house / These motherfuckers never take the trash out.”

The West Coast rapper had teased the new track on Tuesday as American voters cast ballots in the heated midterm election seen as a test of Trump’s presidency.

“Cuffs are ready,” the rapper tweeted, posting a video clip previewing the song. “Get out there and vote.”

Ice Cube, 49, frequently infuses his raps with blunt sociopolitical commentary.

Bear in mind that Rihanna also condemned Mr Trump after finding out her hit “Don’t Stop the Music” was used at one of his rallies.

Her backlash also follows musician Pharrell Williams sending Mr Trump a legal challenge over his use of the song Happy on the day of the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre.

Dammy Krane Reveals What Prison Experience In Canada Taught Him

Popular Nigerian singer, Oyindamola Johnson Emmanuel, better known as Dammy Krane, has opened up on his prison ordeal in Canada and the lessons he learnt during his time in jail.

Last year, the “Amin” singer was imprisoned in Canada over credit card fraud allegations – an incident that prevented him from being productive in the entertainment/music industry throughout the year.

However, in a chat with Showtime, the entertainer revealed that the memories of the experience are still fresh in his mind. He said,

“I learnt three very important things after that experience; to appreciate God, family and my fans. Meanwhile there are a lot of friends turned family.”

He added that on his return to Nigeria after being certified innocent of the crime by the Canadian court of Law, instead of dwelling on negative comments from family members, industry colleagues, friends and fans, he focused more on the positive comments.

“I have something I always do when it comes to social media; I concentrate more on the positive comments than the negative ones. That someone has taken out his time to write something nice is something to appreciate,” he said.

Speaking further, he explained why he decided to wear the orange prison uniform prisoners usually wear abroad to the first show he performed after his return to Nigeria.

“It was Basketmouth that brought the idea. Though I had already used it to shoot a video and also infused it into the dressing of my dancers in the video.”

BEWARE! Retailers Now Use Sniper To Preserve Beans – CPC Tells Nigerians

BEWARE! Retailers Now Use Sniper To Preserve Beans – CPC Tells Nigerians

The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) yesterday cautioned Nigerian consumers to beware of contaminated beans currently being sold in some market.

CPC, an apex consumer protection agency in Nigeria established to improve the well-being of the people, also confirmed that retailers in the open market are using a pesticide popularly known as sniper to preserve beans.

It called on consumers to properly wash their beans before consumption as well as make sufficient enquiries before engaging in new purchases.

The Council gave the advice in a statement released by its Director-General, Mr Babatunde Irukera.

The warning came on the heels of a video that had gone viral where some people were seeing using sniper to preserve beans.

The statement read: “The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has recently confirmed by credible information that retailers, mostly in the open market, are using a pesticide, 2,2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate (DDVP) compound otherwise marketed and known as “Sniper” to preserve beans, and more particularly eliminate or protect from weevils.”

“There is no evidence that this process constitute any deliberate attempt by enterprise to injure consumers. Rather, and on the contrary, it is to protect and preserve the quality of the beans. However, Sniper by its chemical composition and nature is potentially injurious when people are unduly exposed by inhalation, absorption, direct skin contact or ingestion.

“There are significantly heightened risks to persons applying Sniper to the beans because of direct contact. However, risk of injury on account of consumption of beans exposed to, or treated with Sniper is also existential, even though, an unintended consequence.”
