Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr Speaks About The Impact Of Injuries And Suspension To His Squad Vs South Africa

Featured Image

Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr has reud the injuries and suspension that has left four of his regulars missing for Saturday’s crucial 2019 AFCON qualifier against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

However, Rohr has has revealed that the situation has presented opportunities for some other performers to step onto the runway.

First choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, right back Abdullahi Shehu and forward Odion Ighalo – top goalscorer in the 2019 AFCON qualifying race with six goals – are not in South Africa as a resut of injury, while Wilfred Ndidi is suspended after cards against Seychelles and Libya.

“Yes, we have a number of injuries and one suspension. But we cannot continue to talk about that. We must look at the personnel with us now and see the situation as opportunity for them to step up and prove what they can do.

“I am happy we have a young team determined to achieve. Everyone here is good enough to represent Nigeria and they will go in there and do the job.”

Dejan Lovren Claims Croatia Shut Spain Up After Defeating Them In Nations League Clash

Featured Image

Dejan Lovren says Croatia’s victory over Spain “shut them up” and has appeared to continue his ongoing feud with Sergio Ramos.

Luka Modric also said the result proved their run to the 2018 World Cup final “wasn’t an accident”, having lost 6-0 to Spain in their Nations League opener in September.

Dejan Lovren accused Spain’s players of showing a lack of grace in defeat.

“They are, I don’t know how to call it, rude on the field,” he said. “They fall down without reason.

“I would also point out that in fair play matches they should show respect, because when we lost 6-0 against them we respected them.”

Lovren reportedly taunted Spain and Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos in an Instagram live video taken in the Croatia dressing room immediately after the match.

It follows an ongoing feud between the players which stretches back to the Champions League final.

Lovren followed the video up by posting a picture of him beating Ramos to a header with the message “good morning Croatia”.

Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Polish teenager Sebastian Walukiewicz after being identified by head of recruitment Sven Mislintat, according to reports Slide clips to delete them

Sebastian Walukiewicz, 18, who currently plays in his homeland for Pogon Szczecin, is said to be viewed as a long-term option at centre-back for Arsenal

Football.London claims that Walukiewicz has been watched up close by Arsenal scouts this season, having only made his breakthrough into the first team towards the end of the last campaign.

A number of other clubs have been tipped to make a move for the former Legia Warsaw defender, however, including Spanish champions Barcelona and arch-rivals Espanyol.

Walukiewicz made his breakthrough into the Szczecin first-team towards the end of last season and has featured in 13 of their 15 league games during the current campaign, with 12 of those appearances coming as starts.

The teenager is a regular with Poland’s international youth teams and is already being tipped to make a breakthrough into the senior squad in the near future.

Chelsea Accused Of Making illegal Payments To Andreas Christensen’s Father

Featured Image

Chelsea are now facing further allegations that they breached FIFA and Premier League rules by making illegal payments to the father of defender Andreas Christensen in order to sign him.

Danish paper ‘Politiken’ published the hacked files, which claim to show that Sten Christensen was hired as a scout on the same day that his son was purchased from Brondby in 2012 aged 15.

The copies of Chelsea’s consultancy agreements show that Christensen Sr. received £11,400 per month plus VAT for four years, totalling £656,640, all while still being under the employment of Brondby, as a goalkeeping coach.

Danish media outlet ‘Politiken’ insists that there is no evidence that Christensen Sr did any scouting work in those years.

A spokesman for the Premier League told ‘Sportsmail’ on Thursday: “Should we receive any substantive material that indicates that our rules may have been broken, we will of course investigate it.”

Meanwhile a spokesperson for Chelsea said: “We do not comment on speculation about confidential contracts or player-related cases.”

Antonio Valencia Reveals The Real Reason Why He Has Not Been Playing For Manchester United

Featured Image

Antonio Valencia claims his absence from the Manchester United first-team is down to being dropped by manager Jose Mourinho.

Jose Mourinho suggested earlier this month that Antonio Valencia was injured and not fit enough to play.

But, while on international duty with Ecuador, the veteran defender claims his lack of minutes is down solely to his club boss.

“Right now I haven’t been playing, but it’s more of a tactical decision,” he tol ‘Area Deportiva’.

“The player who has been in my place (Young) has been playing well. You have to respect the decision.

“The only thing I can do is prepare and be ready for when he (Mourinho) needs me and be in the right condition to compete

“I’m calm right now and I know I’ll get an opportunity to play again. The relationship with Mourinho has always been a good one.”

Sadio Mane Has Realized He Is A World Class Player – Jurgen Klopp

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp has said that while he never doubted Sadio Mane’s class, the player’s game has stepped up since he realised the level of his game.

Sadio Mane has scored 40 goals in 89 games since joining Liverpool from Southampton, but he hasn’t always been consistent

“He is an outstanding player, I never had any other opinion,” said Klopp.

“He needed more confidence when he came in, the start was really good but I think he was a bit surprised by himself.

“Everything was good until the first time his shape dropped a little bit and then he struggled a bit with that, because he needed to get used to [the fact] that he is a world-class player.

“Now, he knows that much better. That helps us. He is a really good player.

“Since he came in he helped the team so much, he improved so much. He is an outstanding offensive player. If you ask me if he is a striker, yes, from time to time. Is he a midfielder? Yes, from time to time.

“He can probably play a slightly deeper position as well – we don’t have to play him there because we have other players there – but he could play it as well.

“He is physically strong, technically strong, he is unbelievably quick, he is quick in mind as well, and he is a good shooter with both feet. That makes a good player and he is a fantastic person

FRSC Publishes List Of Accredited Driving Schools In Nigeria

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has made available online a comprehensive list of accredited driving schools in Nigeria.

The aim of the list is to enable car owners and prospective drivers to locate accredited driving schools in the country.

CLICK ON THE STATE TO VIEW THE LIST OF ACCREDITED DRIVING SCHOOLS

The FRSC also lamented that speeding accounts for over 50 per cent of road crashes in the country.

Corps Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, stated this at an event to commemorate “2018 United Nations Decade of Action on Road Safety and Injury Prevention” in Abuja on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Day is celebrated annually in solidarity with victims of road traffic crashes and their families.

“The Day has become an important tool in global effort to reduce road casualties.

“It offers an opportunity for drawing attention to the scale of emotional and economic devastation caused by road traffic crashes and for giving recognition to the suffering of road crash victims.

“It is also to acknowledge the work of support and rescue services,” he said.

The Corps Marshal, who was represented by Corps Commander, Christopher Ademoluti, said the corps introduced a Speed Limiting Device to regulate the speed for commercial vehicles.

He said the enforcement of the policy would be extended to private vehicles.

ASUU Strike Continues As Meeting With FG Ends In Deadlock

ASUU Strike Continues As Meeting With FG Ends In Deadlock

The about six-hour meeting held yesterday between the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU), and the Federal Government – with a view to calling off the 12-day old strike embarked upon by public university lecturers – ended in deadlock.

The government on Thursday opened negotiations with ASUU at the Ministry of Labour and Employment office in Abuja over the universities lecturers’ strike since November 5.

The meeting, which started at 3pm and lasted till 9pm, was adjourned, as the striking teachers and government did not reach a middle ground.

However, the two parties agreed that negotiation will resume next week.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting, the National President of ASUU, Prof Abiodun Ogunyemi, said the strike was still ongoing and had not been called off as ASUU’s demands were yet to be met.

His words: “We have just started the discussions, we have not really gone far. So what we have done today is just to open up the issues. So the strike still continues. We have not fixed a date for the next meeting but by tomorrow, we should know.”

While the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, during a brief session with newsmen before the closed-door meeting, apologised that “talks with the academic union are coming a bit late because we have been having negotiations on the new minimum wage.”

Ngige said: “The government appeals to ASUU to put the interest of the students first because they are at the receiving end of the consideration.”

Efe Says He’s Left With N75k From His N25M BBNaija Winnings

A former Big Brother Naija housemate Efe Ejeba has confirmed that he only has N75,000 left from his winnings in the 2017 edition of the reality television show.

Efe, the winner of BBNaija Double Wahala, tells this to a radio host during an interview on Hot FM, Lagos on Thursday, November 15.

When the radio host asked him, how much he had left of his prize money, he said:

“Yo man, I basically have like 75k in my account. It was 100k, but yesterday night, we went to the least expensive bar to chill with the 25K,” eliciting laughter from the radio hosts.

Speaking on why he switched from rap to Afrobeats, Efe said he needed to make a hit.

His words: “It’s a total switch of vibe, I need a hit. On the other side, I am an artiste, evolving is one of the stuff. Right now, the vibe I am feeling now is the Afro vibe, it can switch anytime.

On the backlash he has received for his works, Efe said he has been used to criticisms since his childhood.

“Days back even as a young boy, I have been given the opportunity to prove myself. I don’t know, maybe because I always go beyond my mates or my level so I am used to it.

“I don’t care about how you feel about me or what you think about me, I always have a goal, I have my plans regardless of what it turns out to be.”

Steven Gerrard Speaks About Not Signing For Chelsea In 2005 And His Infamous Slip In 2014

Featured Image

Steven Gerrard believes that he made the right decision by rejecting Chelsea and staying at Liverpool in 2005.

Steven Gerrard nearly left Liverpool for Stamford Bridge just months after winning the Champions League in Istanbul.

This caused some Liverpool fans to burn his shirt and label him a traitor, but a last minute U-turn saw him stay at Anfield.

Gerrard only won two more major trophies with Liverpool – the FA Cup in 2006 and the League Cup in 2012 – but he maintains that it was the right call.

“The most important thing is the final decision was the right one,” the 38-year-old told the Guardian. “Nine out of 10 people might argue I would have made more money, won more trophies, blah, blah.

“But them people are not me. They’re not in my city and they don’t have that connection with my club. That’s why I’m the one in 10.”

The now Rangers boss came closest to winning the Premier League title in the 2013/14 season, but his infamous slip against Chelsea proved costly in the final run-in.

Gerrard says that the pain of that moment and his hunger to correct it continues to drive him on.

“I don’t know whether it’s every day but I think about it a lot,” said Gerrard. “I don’t think it will ever go away. But I wouldn’t be the player I was or have the hunger to be a manager if I didn’t care.”

It Is ‘Impossible’ To Show Homosexuality in Football – Olivier Giroud

Featured Image

Olivier Giroud believes that it is “impossible to be openly homosexual in football” and that the idea that the sport is a long way from accepting openly gay players is an “understatement.”

Speaking with Le Figaro in French, the 32-year-old recalled the “emotional” time when former Germany international Thomas Hitzlsperger came out back in early 2014 — still the highest-profile former footballer to date. The Chelsea forward also pointed to his various gestures with former clubs Arsenal and Montpellier in support of the gay community.

“When I saw Thomas Hitzlsperger come out back in 2014 [post-retirement], it was very emotional,” he said. “It was at this time that I thought that it is impossible to be openly homosexual in football.”

“In the dressing room, there is a lot of testosterone, teasing and collective showers. It is delicate but that is how it is. I can understand the pain and the difficulty for guys in coming out — it is a real challenge and it takes years of work on yourself.

“When I joined Montpellier, I got involved in the fight for tolerance and was on the cover of [French gay magazine] Tetu. At Arsenal, when asked, I wore rainbow laces in support of the gay community.”

Premier League and EFL clubs will again show their support for Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign at the end of this month, with players wearing the laces and clubs using rainbow colours on corner flags and captain’s armbands. Premier League clubs will do so for two rounds of games from Nov. 30, while EFL clubs will select a game between Nov. 24 and Dec. 1.

“To say that there is still a lot of work to be done in the football world on this topic is an understatement. It’s the least one could say,” Giroud said.

Micheal Keane Reveals How Everton’s Poor Form Last Season Affected Him Last Season

Featured Image

Everton defender Michael Keane has admitted that he was too ‘low’ to leave the house after a disappointing start to his career at the club last season.

Michael Keane joined Everton from Burnley for £25m but failed to live up to expectations at first, coming in for criticism from pundits and fans alike as Everton won just two of their first ten matches.

Manager Ronald Koeman was sacked during this poor run of form and Keane says that the guilt was another factor which affected his mental health during these difficult days.

There were a few months when things were going really badly and I did not really want to go and do things out of the house,” said Keane, quoted by the Daily Mail.

“It is really sad when managers get sacked and they talk to you for the last time and you see how upset they are. That gets to you and makes you feel guilty and want to make sure it does not happen again.

“We had three managers in the end and it was difficult — all the change constantly happening.”

Wayne Rooney Reflects On His Final Game For England

Featured Image

Wayne Rooney is convinced England are in safe hands with coach Gareth Southgate and his staff after saying farewell to the Three Lions in Thursday’s 3-0 win over the United States.

Wayne Rooney came on just before the hour to a rousing Wembley reception for his 120th and final international appearance.

Under Southgate, England reached the World Cup semi-finals at Russia 2018 and, having spent time in the camp this week, Rooney has seen enough to believe the country’s wait for a major trophy – which stretches back to 1966 – can come to an end.

“It’s my opinion but I think it’s in very safe hands with what I’ve seen this week, how the players are being coached, and how the players are responding to it is excellent,” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s a great group of young players, who have got a very bright future and they’ll go close to being the next team to bring a trophy home for England. I hope they do, I’ll be one of the fans cheering them on.”

Jesse Lingard’s stunner and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s first international goal already had England 2-0 up by the time Rooney entered the fray. The former Manchester United star had a couple of opportunities to cap his goodbye game with a popular goal, either side of debutant Callum Wilson rounding off the win.

But, with a wry smile, Rooney suggested perhaps it was better he did not score given his selection caused some debate among former players and pundits.

He added: “In some ways it’s great because if I did score it would open the debate as to whether it should count or not, so it’s probably better it didn’t go in!

“It’s been great. Tonight was a great way to finish off my international career. I thought the lads were brilliant, played a great game. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the goal but it will stay in the memory a long time.”

On the reaction he received from the crowd, Rooney said: “They gave me a great reception, it was a moment to saviour.

“Everyone in the dressing room enjoyed it, it’s not taken away from what Gareth is trying to do, hopefully some of those players will get similar moments for what they achieved in their England careers.”
