Saraki Reveals Why He’s Not Happy With Buhari

Senate President Bukola Saraki has disclosed that he spent between N200 million and N400 million in each of 30 states on the election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

This revelation was brought to light in an audio clip that was first posted by blogger, Kayode Ogundamisi, on his verified Twitter handle.

The senate president said this while addressing members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state.

LISTEN TO AUDIO

Saraki said had Kwara people been given appointments, they would have been able to approve money for party supporters which would have eased their suffering.

Expressing his unhappiness with the president, the senate president also accused Buhari of punishing the people of the state by starving them of appointments.

His words: All that you have complained about tonight is on point, I can not find anything you have said that is not on point, you complained about empowerment. Let us agree that the last 3 and a half years, things have not been easy at all, I agree and accept things have not been easy at all, particularly in the area of empowerment.

“Before 2015 I have always tried to empower the youth and get you involved in appointments, but this time around as a result of what I call human factor, things have not been the same, I believe it is the will of God. When you all are complaining and you give example of Gegele and co and you compare it to what is happening now, I am sure you are asking yourself, what is happening? how come all of you struggling with me are not rewarded, it is unacceptable.

“What is the point of putting everything into the emergence of a government and we could not benefit anything from the government, you are asking yourself, what have you benefited. If you have not benefited personally in the last 3 and a half years, how do you go to market us, wont people ask you what you have benefited for yourself?

“It got to a stage that people will be making fund of you and asking you what you have benefited, but what is happening from Abuja, use me as an example, in 2015 I carried APC on my head around Nigeria. Hardly any state in Nigeria that I did not campaign for President Buhari, up to the time of the election in 2015, out of 36 states I paid for the election of 30 states.

“Out of 36 states in Nigeria I funded Buhari’s campaign in 30 States; some states I paid 200 Million Naira, some 300 Million, some 400 Million, the only states I did not fund are South West States. Many times I will be calling my Banks to send money to fund elections across Nigeria for Buhari. My thinking was that when we get elected, the next thing is that we will get majority of our people appointments.

“In fact I had already promised some of you here that you will either be MD of Federal agencies, either road maintenance, NIPDA (inaudible) even Nigerian Ports Authority, SUBEB and so on and so forth. I know if I put someone amongst you from Kwara even in the smallest Federal agencies, the contract you will sign out, 1 Million, 2 Million, but for the first time that I have been in politics even speaker cant appoint a cleaner.

“I as President of the Senate, I could not even appoint a cleaner not to talk of Board appointment, if you look at Executive positions I have nothing even after spending Billions for 3 and a half years, I am as angry as you are. I am fighting President Buhari because of you, if it because of me I wont fight, it is not easy to fight the federal government, the sufferings you are all going trough is because they did not fulfil our agenda.

“In 2018 I told you all I wont be going with APC but in the last one or 2 months that I left I have been doing a lot for you people, my politics is for all of you, I am just here to empower you all, don’t mind the one who just bought form for 33 million. It was not my plan not to appoint you, when when David Mark was Senate President, every confirmation he made for the President came with something, if they really love us now you will be empowered.

“In the past we they have a cut for Senate President and Speaker but not anymore, so we are no longer going with APC as soon as we joined PDP they called me National Leader when I lost election Alhaji Atiku came to me immediately. Now we have seen the sign that if Atiku becomes President, things will come to us, he told me I am the only one that can run his campaign, I know it is not easy for you all, but let me assure you things will be better.

“God see my “aniyan” (Arabic word) now in PDP they have brought us closer, how many people in Kwara did APC bring together in Kwara, now we will soon have power, today in APC they want us to go to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Lagos. If I am the only one in PDP I will fight alone, my Father made Kwara and took Kwara to the top 10 in Nigeria and I also took Kwara to between number 1 to 3 in Nigerian politics and they now want us to bow to Lagos.

“In the coming election we will put Youth into power in Kwara, let us take Hon. Atunwa as he his, he will take care of you all, all those who contested against him are loyal but Atunwa will….. inaudible. When I was Governor I gave a lot of young people contract, they buy land etc and then empower others, I want to return you to the days of when I was Governor when you were all enjoying, Atiku will open things when we win election.

“You know as a leader I see things that followers don’t see, when we followed Buhari, we felt after spending money, we saw that he failed to reward us, so we said this Baba is not coming back, no money, no patronage all over Nigeria. Even with all the problem we have with Buhari the little cut I get I always send to Kwara but I can tell you that we had to design a method to make the little we have, they did not involve us in sharing.

“The only agenda APC have for Kwara is to fight Bukola Saraki, they favour Osun State with empowerment, for the remaining time of Buhari we will still get some things, we gave them list for FIRS for three years they did not employ our list.

“Thank you for listening to me.”

Nigeria Held By South Africa, Qualify Alongside Uganda, Mali, Morocco For AFCON 2019

Nigeria Held By South Africa, Qualify Alongside Uganda, Mali, Morocco For AFCON 2019

Nigeria, Uganda, Mali and Morocco qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday while Libya scored eight goals to keep alive their hopes of also featuring at the finals.

Nigeria drew 1-1 with South Africa in Soweto, Uganda edged Cape Verde 1-0 in Kampala, Mali beat Gabon in Libreville and Morocco went through after rivals Malawi lost in the Comoros.

Libya triumphed 8-1 in the Seychelles and host South Africa next March on the final matchday needing a win to accompany Nigeria in qualifying from Group E.

The Libyans just missed equalling the record away winning margin for a Cup of Nations qualifier held by Ghana, who won 9-1 in Niger 49 years ago.

A total of nine nations have booked now places at the newly-extended 24-team finals with hosts Cameroon, Madagascar, Senegal, Egypt and Tunisia securing berths before this weekend.

Nigeria, the three-time former champions who had failed to qualify for the last two editions, were ahead in South Africa within nine minutes when Buhle Mkhwanazi scored an own goal.

Outstanding South African Percy Tau set up the equaliser for Lebo Mothiba on 26 minutes, but the hosts were fortunate as several contentious offside decisions went against Nigeria.

“A draw feels like a victory because of the heat (32 degrees celsius/90 fahrenheit) and getting little sleep on our overnight flight,” said Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr.

Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari was among those who saluted the Super Eagles for qualifying.

“The president joins millions of football-loving Nigerians in commending the team for their spirited and disciplined performance against a very formidable opponent,” a statement said.

South Africa coach Stuart Baxter said: “I am proud that we have taken four points off Nigeria in the group and disappointed that we were not braver during the second half.”

Anis Saltou bagged a hat-trick in Victoria as Libya humiliated the Seychelles, whose 188th world ranking is the lowest among the 48 teams in the qualifying competition.

A Patrick Kaddu goal on 79 minutes not only assured Uganda of first place in Group K, it opened the door for Tanzania to also qualify.

If Tanzania win in Lesotho on Sunday they will return to the African football showcase after a 39-year absence.

An early Moussa Doumbia goal gave Mali a 1-0 victory and left Gabon, who were without injured star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, needing a matchday 6 victory in Burundi to qualify from Group C.

A draw will suffice for Burundi, who are ranked 142nd in the world and seeking a first Cup of Nations appearance.

Morocco qualified when Group B rivals Malawi lost 2-1 away to out-of-contention Comoros in Mitsamiouli.

The Comoran victory in the multi-island Indian Ocean state gave Morocco an unassailable six-point advantage over Malawi with one matchday left.

El Fardou Mohamed Ben Nabouhane, who has been playing for Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League, gave the Comoros a second-minute lead.

Patrick Phiri equalised after 53 minutes and Nasser Chamed scored the winner in the 70th minute on an artificial pitch.

Leaders Morocco and second-placed Cameroon qualify from the group with the latter assured of a place because they are hosting the June 15-July 13 tournament.

Cameroon are involved in the qualifying competition to gain match practice before defending the title they won in Gabon last year by defeating Egypt 2-1 in the final.

Morocco climbed above Cameroon into first place in Group B Friday after beating them 2-0 in Casablanca thanks to a second-half brace from Hakim Ziyech.

Why Memphis Depay Struggled At Manchester United

Featured Image

Memphis Depay struggled to shine at Manchester United because the move came too soon for him in his career, his former Holland U21s coach has claimed.

Memphis Depay flopped at United after moving to Old Trafford from PSV for £25million in 2015, with Jose Mourinho sanctioning his sale to Lyon in 2016 for a fee of £16million, potentially rising to £21million, after a return of only six goals and seven assists in 53 appearances.

Depay’s struggles at Old Trafford look all the more baffling to some given his form since moving to Ligue 1, having claimed five goals and five assists in just 13 games for Lyon so far this season.

And the player enhanced his reputation with a starring role for Holland as they beat France 2-0 on Friday; the Dutch winger emphasising his new-found confidence by scoring from the penalty spot with a Panenka.

Now the 24-year-old’s former coach at Holland Under-21 level, Cor Pot, suggests the move to Old Trafford simply was too much too soon for the player.

Speaking to Voetbalprimeur, Pot said: “I found Memphis especially a very positive boy.

“You already saw that it was a very great talent, maybe he went to Manchester United a bit too early, and that was all too fast. He was just a basic player in Eindhoven, Lyon was a good step for Memphis. It’s fantastic now.

“He keeps on developing himself – not only as a player, but also as a person – Memphis gets a bit calmer, does not do any crazy things anymore, but at the time he was a bit shy.

“Of course you had that fuss with that extravagant behaviour. That seems a bit over now, I think he’s doing fine.”

United retained a buy-back option on Depay which, on current form, the club may well look to exploit.

Spain

Barcelona hope to take advantage of claims by Football Leaks that Paris Saint-Germain have broken Financial Fair Play rules in order to sign Kylian Mbappe. If the Parisians are cited by FIFA and forced to sell any of their assets, Barca would look to pounce for French superstar Mbappe who has long been linked with rivals Real Madrid. (Diario Gol)

Monaco captain Radamel Falcao has offered himself to Real Madrid ahead of the January transfer window. The 33-year-old has a year-and-a-half left on his existing deal in France but has made it known he would be open to a switch to the Champions League holders when the winter market opens. (Marca)

Lionel Messi has named the four players he wants Barcelona to sign next summer. They are Monaco full-back Djibril Sidibe, Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt and one of Mohamed Salah or Eden Hazard to replace Ousmane Dembele. (Don Balon)

Despite that, Barcelona insist they have had no offers for Dembele and have no intention of selling the French international. Dembele has been in and out of Ernesto Valverde’s side since moving from Borussia Dortmund for an initial €105million (£93.39m) in the summer of 2017 to replace Neymar. (Cadena Ser)

Germany

The headlines in Germany are dominated by the reaction to Die Mannschaft’s UEFA Nations League relegation following France’s 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands on Friday evening.

Speculation surrounds the future of coach Joachim Low who has seen his side relegated four years after winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. But early reports claim the 58-year-old’s job is safe as he attempts to steer Germany to the 2020 European Championships. (Sport Bild)

Bayern Munich utility man Joshua Kimmich says Germany team-mate Kai Havertz would be ideal for the Bavarians. Speaking after Die Mannschaft’s 3-0 friendly win over Russia on Thursday, the full-back-cum-midfielder said: “I cannot buy him, but Kai is already a player who would fit in with Bayern.” (Bild)

Italy

The agent of Napoli full-back Elseid Hysaj has talked up a potential reunion with ex-Partenopei coach Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea. Mario Giuffredi said: “Chelsea in for Hysaj? If you see Napoli are playing (Kevin) Malcuit and looking at other players, clearly it means that there are also enquiries.” (Radio CRC)

Roma striker Patrick Schick insists he is happy at the capital club and has no intention of leaving despite being linked with a loan move away. “The rumours of the market are just speculation,” said Schick. “I have everything very clear in mind, I want to stay in Rome, respect the contract and get on top.” (Gazzetta dello Sport)

France

Paris Saint-Germain are keen to sign Ajax’s highly-rated young midfielder Frenkie De Jong but will face stiff competition from Premier League champions Manchester City. PSG coach Thomas Tuchel has already made it clear a No.6 is top of his shopping list, saying: “Recruiting a No.6? It was a priority during the last transfer window and it is still the case.” (Le10Sport)

Prince Albert II, the reigning monarch of the principality of Monaco, expects Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev to walk away from the Ligue 1 club if he is found guilty of a series of alleged offences following the claims made by Football Leaks this week. Prince Albert, who is a minority shareholder in Les Monegasques, said: “If ever all this was proven, I think he will withdraw from himself.” (L’Equipe)

Croatia

The agent of Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic insists the Croatian is at ‘home’ in Milan and any club wishing to sign his client will have to pay his €60million (£53.36m) release clause. “He sees Milan as his home, is near Zagreb, so there is no reason to emphasise rumours linked to his possible departure,” Miroslav Bicanic said. “If some of the best clubs in the world are interested in paying the €60million clause, they will also have to make the right offer for him.” (Vecernji List)

England Youngster Jadon Sancho Wins Bundesliga Player Of The Month Award

Featured Image

Jadon Sancho has capped an impressive week by being awarded Bundesliga Player of the Month for October following a series of impressive displays for Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho, 18 became the youngest player in Dortmund’s history to score twice in a match when he netted against Hertha Berlin at the end of last month.

Jadon Sancho was also on target a week earlier, notching the opening goal after just two minutes in a 4-0 victory at Stuttgart.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc hailed the talented winger: “I’ve rarely seen anything like it,” he said.

“He’s phenomenal. Even if he’s a different kind of player, he reminds me of Ousmane Dembele, in the sense that he’s almost impossible to defend against. But unlike Dembele he’s only 18, and he hadn’t played a minute in the top flight before he arrived.”

He is currently in his second season with the German club, having joined from Manchester City in August 2017.

“I am very happy that I have decided to change to Borussia Dortmund, because this city lives football like no other,” he said.

Sancho won the award ahead of Dortmund team-mate Achraf Hakimi, Eintracht Frankfurt duo Luka Jovic and Sebastien Haller, Jonas Hofmann [Borussia Monchengladbach] and Marcel Halstenberg [RB Leipzig].
