UEFA President Hint At Early VAR Roll-out For Champions League Knock-out Stages

Featured Image

Video Assistant Referees (VAR) could be used during the knockout stage of this season’s Champions League, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and European Club Association chairman Andrea Agnelli have hinted.

European football’s governing body has already announced plans to use VAR in the 2019-20 season and is in the closing stages of conducting tests with the technology.

VAR was rolled out in LaLiga this term, following its implementation at the 2018 World Cup. Serie A, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, the A-League and MLS also use video assistants and the Premier League will bring it in alongside its Goal Decision System next season.

Speaking at a news conference in Brussels on Tuesday, Ceferin and Agnelli suggested UEFA could jump ahead of its initial proposal, stating that VAR would be in use “at the latest next season”.

“We have started to do all the preparation. [UEFA referees chief] Roberto Rosetti and his team are very good. There are important points of view – the referees and all the technical aspects,” Ceferin said.

“I expect the report in a week or so and then we will see when we can implement it. At the latest next season.”

Agnelli, who is also the chairman of Serie A champions Juventus, added: “At the latest next season also means there is space for earlier implementation.

“We are delighted as clubs with that and we thank UEFA for the work they have been putting together.”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino Warns Qatar It Has To Host Best World Cup Ever

Featured Image

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has warned Qatar that the first World Cup in the Middle East – which begins in four years on November 21 – has to be better than Russia.

“The Russian World Cup was the best ever, and the World Cup in 2022 has to be even better,” said Infantino in a joint statement issued with Qatar’s tournament organisers, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

The statement reveals that Qatar is spending $6.5 billion on building or refurbishing eight stadiums for the tournament. Qatar has said it is spending around $500 million a week on preparations for the World Cup.

The Gulf state is set to host the first tournament in November and December, after FIFA agreed to move the tournament amid concerns over the desert country’s fierce summer heat, where temperatures can reach 50 degrees Celsius (122 Fahrenheit).

“It will be a momentous occasion for the teams participating, the fans watching, and for the whole Arab world, which is eagerly anticipating hosting the showpiece event of the most popular sport in the world for the first time ever,” said Hassan al-Thawadi, head of the Supreme Committee.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis Planning On Buying Club In England

Featured Image

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that he is in the market to buy a club in England.

De Laurentiis, who recently completed the purchase of lower league side Bari, is frustrated by the situation surrounding Napoli’s San Paolo stadium.

The stadium is owned by the city, and De Laurentiis wants to renovate it. He has said that, if he is not allowed to buy it, he will take the club away and build a new ground elsewhere.

He has threatened to move their Champions League fixtures to Bari and said the situation had led him to consider looking at a club overseas.

“I’m working on buying another club, probably in England,” La Gazzetta dello Sport reported him as saying. “There is a project in progress.”

De Laurentiis said he did not feel he could take Napoli any further given the restrictions of a stadium which he claimed had not undergone major renovation since before the 1990 World Cup.

This season, delays in installing new seats led to the club halting the sale of season tickets.

The management of such a stadium is a huge problem,” De Laurentiis said. “The city has done no more than keep it afloat.

“When I discover that PSG pay €1 million a year to rent the Parc des Princes, I realise how far behind we are.

“With 47,000 seats, they produce revenue of €100m a year. Napoli don’t get beyond €17-18m because we can’t do anything inside the San Paolo — we can’t do any other activities.

“The city has done nothing for the San Paolo since 1990. Nobody has assumed the responsibility and we’ve found ourselves with a stadium which is not only ugly but is falling apart. It even rains inside.

“There are millions of screws that are never checked so why are the city council demanding €1.8m a year in rent?

“If it were up to me, I’d buy some land in two seconds and build a new stadium, but there’s a lot of considerations to make.

“All of the opportunities to do something in recent years have failed. Shopping centres are no longer working, as aren’t cinemas. I wouldn’t know how to make a stadium profitable seven days a week — maybe we’d have to offer karaoke.”

PSG Stars Neymar and Kylian Mbappe Forced off Injured Just Eight Days Before Crucial Liverpool Clash

Featured Image

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe could be injury doubts for PSG ahead of their crucial UEFA Champions League meeting with Liverpool next week after both players were substituted while playing for their countries on Tuesday night.

Neymar was withdrawn just eight minutes into Brazil’s match against Cameroon with what appeared to be a groin strain while Kylian Mbappe went off against Uruguay in considerable pain with a shoulder injury.

In a quick interview with TV Globo, Brazil’s team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said it was too early to determine the extent of Neymar’s injury. France’s medical staff were said to not be too concerned with Mbappe’s condition, according to reports.

PSG face Toulouse in Ligue 1 on Saturday before hosting Liverpool in a crunch Champions League group match on Wednesday.

The French giants will be eliminated from the competition if they lose to Liverpool and Napoli win at home to Red Star Belgrade.

Nigeria 0 Vs 0 Uganda: The Cranes Unbeaten Run Against Super Eagles Continue

Featured Image

The Super Eagles of Nigeria and The Cranes of Uganda battled to a 0-0 draw in Tuesday’s friendly at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba

This continues Super Eagles’ underwhelming recent record against Uganda as the East Africans have now extended their undefeated streak against Nigeria to three matches

Nigeria made six changes to the side that secured qualification to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations at the weekend, and it was one of the new faces, Mikel Agu, who twice came close to winning the contest late on.

The makeshift central-defensive pairing of Semi Ajayi and John Ogu were almost made to pay for some sloppy defending in the 11th minute, as Derrick Nsibambi capitalised on the lack of communication.

He could only flick the ball over Daniel Akpeyi’s goal as a chance went begging for the visitors.

The Eagles struggled for any sustained period of possession in the opposition half and on the few occasions they did assert themselves over the Cranes, debutant Samuel Chukwueze looked most likely to provide the missing inspiration.

The Villarreal forward showed glimpses of his brilliance, but home supporters will hope that there’s more to come from him.

Despite the introduction of Samuel Kalu and Isaac Success at the interval, which ought to have added more bit to the attack, Nigeria failed to threaten Jamal Magooa in the opposition goal.

The result ensures The Super Eagles end 2018 on a six-game unbeaten run since the World Cup in Russia

Yannick Carrasco Offers His team-mate £9,000 After Breaking His Nose In Training Bust-up

Featured Image

A training ground bust-up at Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang led to Yannick Carrasco breaking the nose of defender Jin Pengxiang .

Yannick Carrasco released an apology to his teammate via the club’s social media site on Tuesday, as well as paying £9,000 compensation for the damage caused.

In the clip, Carrasco can be heard saying the following: It was at a training session, because of a collision we had some small conflicts that eventually caused his nose to be injured. From my point of view, I think Jin Pengxiang is a good player and a very good person.”

He continued: “I also want to apologise to him because sometimes in football, including during training, there are many times when an unfortunate collision like this could happen. I also hope that he can recover as soon as possible.”

Carrasco only joined the club in February, from Spanish outfit Atlético Madrid, and made a good start to life in the Far East, by scoring the goal that saved his new side from relegation on the final day of the season.

Carrasco also said that he offered to pay for Pengxiang’s medical costs by way of apology.

“I have heard some rumours during this time,” the Belgian said. “I want to clarify that at first I was willing to give him €9,000 as medical compensation, but my team did not handle it well.

“He did not receive the money. There are also rumours that he asked me to pay a huge amount of compensation. I have had direct contact with Jin Pengxiang and he never asked for that.

“He is a very good player. There are some things I hope to end in a better way as soon as possible, and I am willing to play with him in the team next year.”

Carrasco has scored seven goals and contributed nine assists in 25 CSL games for Dalian.

Outrage As Buhari’s #NextLevel Logo Is Enmeshed In Plagiarism Scandal

Outrage As Buhari’s #NextLevel Logo Is Enmeshed In Plagiarism Scandal

The campaign document adopted by President Muhammadu Buhari for his re-election is under intense criticism on social media after his handlers appear to have stolen the ‘Next Level’ logo from Rex Institute.

Buhari And Fake News Of His Death

The President had, on Monday, launched the All Progressives Congress Road Map for 2019 titled, NEXT LEVEL.

“We are committed to deepening the work we started in this first term, such that Nigeria’s assets and resources continue to be organised and utilised for the good of the common man.

“Join Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and I on this journey to the NEXT LEVEL of a prosperous, strong and stable Nigeria,” Buhari had said.

However, findings have shown that the NEXT LEVEL logo used by the President’s campaign team is similar to that of a project by the United States-based Winthrop University, also tagged NExT LEVEL.

A peek into the school’s website, www2.winthrop.edu, showed that “NExT LEVEL is a project of the Winthrop University-School Partnership Network, in collaboration with the Fort Mill School District (York 4), Lancaster County School District and the Rock Hill School District (York 3).”

The project coordinator, Dr. Kelly Costner, said on the website that the programme “is a Professional Development Programme grant funded by the US Department of Education and administered through the Office of English Learner Acquisition, Delaware.”

It is not the first time Buhari and his handlers have been enmeshed in a plagiarism scandal.

In September 2016, his ‘Change Begins With Me’ speech contained several sentences that were identical to some in Barack Obama’s 2008 victory speech.

For instance, Buhari had said:

“We must resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship, pettiness and immaturity that have poisoned our country for so long.”

Meanwhile, eight years ago, after his victory over Republican John McCain in the race for the White House, Obama had said:

“Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long.”

While the Presidency is yet to respond to the allegations of plagiarism, Nigerians have taken to Twitter to pour out their mind with respect to the logo.

How The Oby Ezekwesili Presidency Will Lift Over 80million Nigerians Out Of Poverty

How The Oby Ezekwesili Presidency Will Lift Over 80million Nigerians Out Of Poverty

A former minister for Education, Obiageli ‘Oby’ Ezekwesili, has elucidated on how she intends to lift over 80 million Nigerians out of poverty if she becomes president.

The former minister, who announced her intention to run for Nigeria’s highest office in October, on the platform of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), disclosed her plans to lift Nigerians out of poverty and to build a new Nigeria that is prosperous, stable and harmonious, among others.

Obiageli ‘Oby’ Ezekwesili,

Obiageli ‘Oby’ Ezekwesili, (Hope 2019)

The convener of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group, Oby Ezekwesili, made this known in her 2019 policy speech issued on her official website.

She wrote: Today I am releasing my platform’s proposal on how we would lift 80 million Nigerians out of poverty. My plan proposes a better future for Nigerians. It is a blueprint of possibilities and a pledge to Nigerians of what an ACPN government can achieve. Our program will provide hope, progress and prosperity for everyone. We will be radical but responsible. We will think big while living within our means. The overriding vision of an ACPN presidency shall be to build a new Nigeria that is prosperous, stable and harmonious.

Let me highlight the economic philosophy of my government; the fundamental principles and concepts that will guide our governance:

  1. A strong belief in the dominant economic role of the private sector and a commitment of our government to launch vigorous market economy reforms. Through policy, effective regulation and catalytic public investment in the provision of basic services for people and businesses, we will accelerate and expand the sources of growth in the economy.
  2. A massive program of deregulation of the Nigerian economy to unleash the depth of competition and efficiencies necessary for higher and deeper economic growth and expansion of the economy. The division and rebalancing of roles between business and government will reduce opportunities of corruption and bottlenecks that limit the competitiveness of the Nigerian economy.
  3. A commitment to pursuing growth that is inclusive which is a necessity for lifting the poor to an improved state of well-being. Research has shown us that the poor are uplifted faster in a market economy cushioned by relevant safety nets.
  4. A dedication to improving the Productivity and Competitiveness of Nigeria and Nigerians in every sector of economic activity by removing barriers and providing a menu of sound policy measures.
  5. A deliberateness in easing the Doing Business environment not just for major businesses in Nigeria but for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, which are the lifeblood of our economy.

The main way out of poverty is for people to earn incomes. The main way for people to earn incomes is by having profitable work to do. Social safety nets like cash transfers to the poor are good, but they must only be a side component to a private-sector driven jobs strategy. When people have profitable work to do, it leads to inclusive growth and productivity of our economy. Clearly, there is a link joining it all together: Our growth and productivity can only happen when our people have lots of jobs and when they earn incomes that pull them out of poverty.

Right now, people simply do not have jobs. The entire population of Togo is about 8 million people. That is the number of people who became unemployed in just 20 months, between January 2016 and September 2017, under President Buhari, according to the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS). 8 MILLION!!! Again, think about that for a second. Those are not just numbers – they are humans. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 million humans. They have families. They have people who depend on them. More are entering the job market and many are losing their jobs. We all know someone who has lost a job in this economy. You may even be one of them. We all have families and friends who call us on the phone, pleading for any change we could spare at all to help them survive one more day. How long can we continue like this?

But the thing is that the government does not have the resources or the capacity to provide these much-needed jobs. That is a settled truth, no matter what any politician says to you. Therefore, in building our new Nigeria, the private sector will be the engine of economic growth and development. Our philosophy for tackling the challenges we face will be market-based, private sector driven and government supported.

Government has a role to play in enhancing the market, not undermining it. When I am president, we will embrace that role. We will set the vision; we will lead on policy; we will ensure smarter, better and clearer regulations; we will help correct important market failures; and we will, of course, invest in critical areas like developing the human capital to power our 21st century economy and leading the way on big-ticket infrastructure.

Now, let us talk about some of our programs; some of the ways we intend to lift 80 million Nigerians out of poverty and propel this country and its great people to their rightful place in the world.

Buhari And Fake News Of His Death

Buhari And Fake News Of His Death By Raymond Eze

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

There is no gain saying the fact that all mortals are indebted to death. In Nigeria’s history, the fate of losing sitting or former Presidents and other prominent leaders has befallen us a number of times. Among such incidences were the deaths of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa,  Ahmadu Bello (the Sardauna of Sokoto), General Aguyi Ironsi, General Murtala Muhammed, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe,  General Sani Abacha  and Alhaji Umar Musa Yar’ Adua. In spite of the circumstances of their death, the news at least was never hidden. Some of them, if not all, were accorded State and/or religious rites of honour due them.  Presidents die. They are human and mortal.

This piece was written by Raymond Eze and was first published on Leadership Nigeria. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

But President Buhari has not died. He is not dead.  He perhaps died only on the social media, Facebook pages and whatsapp groups. What has become the height of fake news which is now making the rounds started with one Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB. He dropped an allegation that Nigeria’s living President Muhammadu Buhari is an impostor. And the news is spreading like wild fire.  The pain is that even lettered people who should know better are buying the story.

Nonsense!  What could have made these people this gullible? What magic or recreative power could have made this new Buhari have retentive memory or power of recognition? This must be a joke taken too far. There is no known technology that can impute his experience in the military, identification of associates, friends and relatives as well as experience in office if he is an impostor.

Taking ill is not synonymous with death. If so, all that had taken ill before would have been dead. And perhaps the earth would have been empty because people fall sick every second.  It baffles one that some people take their hatred for the President to the extent of wishing him dead. These haters should know that his family members still love him and want him alive, if not as President but as a father, a husband, a grandfather or an uncle etc.

But proponents of this fake news won’t have any of such. They are rather engrossed in their infamous act of spreading fake news. They hate the President that, even if he is standing before them, they would prefer to believe that he is a ghost or an impostor as it is in this case.

The masterminds of this ignoble act have attempted to convince their gullible audience through non-existing physiological comparisons. They maintain that he was sick beyond recovery. So how could he have recovered? To them, no miracle or medical efficacy could have restored his health, otherwise how can he look chubby after his sunken jaws and cheeks closed up in good health.

Some have also gone to the extent of alleging that the Queen of England even commiserated with the country over the purported death. Others said the AU had a minute silence in his honour. Unbelievable!  And no international protocol observed for or accorded him? For crying out loud, are these no longer world affairs that could not have been hidden from international focus? Or did all the CNNs and BBCs of this world also die along with him?

If the Queen commiserated with the country, who received her as the chief mourner?  It is important to put on record that President Buhari is an accomplished man, a member of the Kastina Emirate, a retired General of the Nigerian Army, Former Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. His death would, no doubt, be celebrated as done in the case of personalities of his class. He is indeed an accomplished person. The man ain’t going anywhere yet. Life and death are beyond humans and their knowledge and abilities. Death is beyond our control.

It has become obvious some people would have asked Buhari to die or take his life were that to be in their hands. Some others have insinuated that Buhari does not look sick anymore neither does he go for medical checkups as he used to.  Why are you disturbed? This is an unusual and unsolicited care for the President. And sure, not out of love. Only mischief smells here. What is really the annoyance of these President haters? Are they really angry that he no longer travels often to seek medicare or are they pissed that they can no longer use that against him?

The presidential campaigns for the 2019 general election is set to begin and so much thrash of this nature would be spilled on gullible individuals with the aim of defaming their opponent and canvassing for votes. This type of dirty politics is not healthy for the growth of democracy in the country and Nigerians must beware. Although every individual is entitled to their opinions, it is disappointing for some interests to easily buy into the fake narrative being propagated by mischief makers who do not wish the country well.

This is obviously not the best of times for the country. Some misguided groups or persons, for their selfish interests, are selling a toxic idea to the vulnerable. This, at a time like this, is capable of setting the nation aflame. It is believed that Buhari has supporters. Who can say what kind of negative narratives they may have against their political opponents. And what if they have and decide to use them, who can imagine the extent to which it may go. Nigerians should be guided. We must join hands together to resist the unfolding propaganda in the interest of national unity and stability. Everything is not politics. This is not the time to play politics with the life of our President.

Prosecutors wrote in the indictment that Nine Trey has been dealing drugs including fentanyl, MDMA, marijuana, heroin and more in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx.

The document elaborated on the “acts of violence” Tekashi and his alleged accomplices committed. It reads,

“These acts of violence include acts involving murder, acts involving robbery and extortion, and assault.”

6ix9ine is set to be arraigned in New York City on six counts of weapons and racketeering charges.

It is understood that he was denied bail pending the trial because of the possibility of conducting crime while at home.

NECO Extends Registration For 2018 SSCE Applicants

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced an extension for the registration of the on-going 2018 November/December NECO Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

This disclosure was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Registrar of NECO, Mr Abubakar Gana, in Abuja.

NECO: Here’s The New Timetable For 2018 Nov/Dec SSCE

According to him, candidates wishing to sit for the examination could still register as `walk-in* (late registration) candidates.’

The Registrar said the extension became necessary because some of the candidates could not register at the expiration of registration deadline of Nov. 17.

He advised all the candidates who failed to meet the registration deadline to take advantage of the window provided by the management.

The NECO boss urged candidates registering after the closing date to adhere to the guidelines of the registration process.

He, however, warned that such candidates must complete the registration within twenty-four hours to the scheduled time of examination for the subject(s) that they intended to sit for.

Gana also advised those who wish to register as walk-in candidates to contact the nearest NECO State Office for full details on the registration procedure.

Bear in mind that NECO had on November 14 announced a change in its examination date from November 15 to 19.

The Council has scheduled its November/December Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) to commence on Monday 19th November and end on Wednesday 19th December 2018.
