Cesc Fabregas Admits He’s Not Leaving Chelsea In January

Featured Image

Cesc Fabregas has admitted that he is likely to remain at Chelsea until the end of the season.

Cesc Fabregas joined Chelsea from Barcelona in the summer of 2014 but has only played 48 minutes of Premier League football this term and his future has been the subject of much speculation.

The 31-year-old has insisted that he has not spoken to any foreign clubs over a potential move in January, and is likely to remain with Chelsea until the end of the season.

“No, I haven’t spoken to anyone,” Fabregas told reporters. “Obviously in January I can sign (a pre-contract agreement) with whoever I want and probably this will attract many clubs.

“But so far, from what I can say right now, yes I will stay here until the end of the season. I play at Stamford Bridge, I’m happy. That’s the most important thing. But of course every player wants to play more.”

Jurgen Klopp Angered By Bulls**t Liverpool Criticism

Featured Image

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hit back at recent criticism of his side ahead of Sunday’s Merseyside derby against Everton.

The Reds have made their best-ever start to a Premier League season and are still unbeaten after 13 games, but find their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread following defeat to PSG on Wednesday.

“When everything is brilliant and we score goals, you always ask about defending and how we can fix that. We fixed that, kind of, and it always happens that, initially, you lose creativity. That is completely normal,” Klopp told reporters.

“I can’t say to the boys, ‘We’ve fixed things at the back but we’re not doing enough offensively.’ That would be crazy. Bringing one player in would change everything? That’s bullshit, and you know it.

“Really, if people cannot enjoy our football then I can’t help them. I get constantly confronted by people saying something is missing. Of course it could be better, but it’s not because of one player. In the games we have won we were always the better side. Not one lucky game. That’s rare.”

The self-acclaimed ‘ginger master’, Terry G, in a chat with The Punch, also revealed that his partner, with whom he has a six-year-old son, is his biggest critic as regards his career, saying that she does not like his kind of songs.

He said, “My baby mama is not worried about the fact that we have not got married yet so people should not worry on our behalf. At the end of the day, what is marriage? I do not have a clue and I cannot jump into it.

“We are still both young and by God’s grace, we have been through the struggles together. Most of my business is being handled by her. When we get to a certain age, we would do it (get married). I believe in the institution of marriage.

“She is the only child of her mother and the pressure seems to be more from her side (family) but she is in charge. She is a rich girl and in charge. She does not feel threatened by the fact that we are not yet legally married because she knows the kind of person that I am. She knows Gabriel, but does not know Terry G. She does not even like Terry G. She is not a fan of Terry G and she criticises my songs a lot. She is so classy.”

Women Prefer Bearded Men Over Clean-Shaven Ones For Long-Term Relationships, Research Says

In a chat with The Punch, the award-winning actress also revealed why she had yet to have a collaboration with her son, whom she described as doing well.

Her words: “Did I tell anyone that I have retired from music? I hope to do a song with my son but he is very stubborn. He has his own way of doing things. I hope that in future, we can collaborate; I have a certain kind of music that I do, I like rock and soft rock. He is still young and he is experimenting.

“He is doing a lot of stuff. Obviously, he is enjoying himself because he is a ‘rave at the moment’ and maybe he is thinking that I have not ‘blown’ as a musician. I hope to prove myself in the music industry even more than my song, Gba, did.”

“In future when I have built my own place, I would love to perform on stage instead of being commercial-oriented. I enjoy playing on stage more; I enjoy recording and performing. I hope to get there and do that so that people like my son can take me more seriously. My son knows that I am very good when it comes to music but he says, ‘It is not me you would use to blow.’”

Cameroon Stripped Off Hosting 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations

Cameroon will no longer host the 2019 CAF Nations Cup following their failure in infrastructural upgrades needed to handle a 24-team tourney

The decision was reached following the country’s inability to meet up with the required standard for the championship billed to commence in June 2019.

According to Caf president Ahmad Ahmad, the football body will work to ‘determine a new organizing country by the end of the year’.

Today we took the decision to withdraw the 2019 CAN from Cameroon,” CAF president, Ahmad Ahmad, said in a statement.

Ahmed was speaking after a 10 hour CAF executive meeting held behind closed doors in the Ghanaian capital.

Ahmad said “a task force” would be set up to launch an appeal for offers “to determine a new organising country between now and the end of the year”.

South Africa and Morocco are two frontline contenders to step in as hosts in place of Cameroon, who won the last edition in 2017 in Gabon.

Dani Alves Slams ‘Disgraceful’ Madrid Copa Libertadores Final Decision

Featured Image

Dani Alves has strongly opposed the decision to play the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu.

CONMEBOL opted to move the fixture to Madrid after the second leg twice had to be postponed, following attacks on the Boca Juniors team bus en route to River Plate’s Monumental stadium.

The latest South American footballer to voice his discontent at the decision, Dani Alves posted a message on Instagram, in which he called the move a disgrace.

“For me, playing Boca-River outside of South America is the biggest disgrace I have ever seen and will see as a football player, as a South American and as someone who considers that this is a sport lived with feeling, passion and above all respect,” he said.

“It seems to me that all these people, who have nothing to do with what happened, should not have to pay for a few fools. Maybe this was the only chance they had to see Boca-River in a final and now they can’t because it’s been moved to Europe.

“I suppose it’s nothing to do with me, but as a South American and as a lover of football and healthy rivalry, I felt the right and the obligation to express my opinion. I hope it’s not played [in Madrid] for the good of football and out of respect for all those that have nothing to do with [what happened].”

Ivan Perisic Reveals How Close He Came To Joining Manchester United

Featured Image

Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic has admitted he was on the verge of quitting the club to join Manchester United in the summer of 2017, but says he has no regrets over turning down the move.

Ivan Perisic was Jose Mourinho’s top target that summer as the United boss looked to add a quality wide player to his ranks, but a last-ditch intervention from Inter manager Luciano Spalletti convinced the 29-year-old to stay put.

Speaking to ‘FourFourTwo’, Perisic has now opened up on the matter, saying that he was flattered by the interest shown in him by Mourinho.

“It’s true that an offer from Manchester United was on the table – I was really close to leaving Inter,” he explained.

“When Luciano Spalletti arrived [in June 2017], he showed tremendous desire to keep me in the team and made it clear he didn’t want to lose me.

“That was very encouraging, and I haven’t regretted my decision to stay at Inter. In football, small details in these situations are key.

“Admiration from a coach like Mourinho is definitely something that flattered me. It’s confirmation of hard work and good performances.

“When you’re praised by a guy like Mourinho – the manager of a huge club like Man United – it’s difficult not to think about such an offer. I’m glad he has a high opinion of me. These things motivate me to work and train hard, to achieve the best performances.”

Despite having decided against the move on that occasion, Perisic says he isn’t ruling out a move to the Premier League in the future.

“In football, you never say never,” he added. “From the beginning of my career, I’ve had the ambition to play in as many big leagues as possible, and I still have that desire to test myself in other leagues. And I mean in the Spanish or English leagues.

“I hope Inter fans understand my point of view. I’m an athlete and a professional, I like challenges and this is my driving force. What the future will bring, I don’t know. Now I’m focused on Inter, as we try to make a bigger step forward from last season.’

Here’s Why CAF Stripped Cameroon Of Africa Cup Of Nations Hosting Rights

Here’s Why CAF Stripped Cameroon Of Africa Cup Of Nations Hosting Rights

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has stripped Cameroon of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations hosting rights in the wake of the ongoing concerns about the country’s security and infrastructure.

A statement on the website of CAF revealed that the decision was taken at Friday’s Exceptional General Meeting in Accra, where the confederation’s executive committee opted to re-open bidding for the tournament, which is due to kick off in June 2019.

Following the development, CAF has called on countries interested in hosting the tournament to submit their official bids before the end of December.

The statement read: “The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) today makes the following statement, detailing the important measures taken at the Extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee in Accra, Ghana, on November 30, 2018.

“One of the important subjects debated was the organisation of the upcoming 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), due to be held in Cameroon. After significant debate and having received detailed updates from numerous inspection visits over nearly 18 months, CAF has noted that a number of compliance conditions have not been met.

“In addition, after having heard from representatives of the governmental and sports authorities of Cameroon, and reviewed the latest progress on preparations, CAF notes the gap between the requirements of hosting the AFCON and realities on the ground.

“Furthermore, after hearing the conclusions of the CAF Security Inspection Team during their most recent visit to Cameroon, CAF concludes that the Africa Cup of Nations could not be exposed to any issues that could impact on the success of the most prestigious African competition.

“After having considered that a simple postponement of the tournament was impossible because of CAF’s contractual commitments, and the importance of maintaining the competition calendar, the CAF Executive Committee decided that the next edition of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations could not be held in Cameroon.

“This decision, without appeal, will mean that CAF will now initiate an open and urgent call for new host country bids to ensure AFCON 2019 takes place next summer.

“CAF will ensure that a new host is in place by 31st December 2018, and it will communicate openly and transparently on the process and subsequent decision.

“CAF reiterates that Cameroon remains a serious candidate to organize a future edition of AFCON, and acknowledges that Cameroon has mobilized significant resources and worked tirelessly to host AFCON 2019.

“CAF unequivocally reiterates its strong commitment to work closely with Cameroon’s government authorities to mutually agree a new AFCON framework and timetable – should it agree to host a future edition.”

ASUU Strike: FG Orders Varsities To Stop Paying Salaries To Striking Lecturers

The federal government of Nigeria has directed the Vice-Chancellors of public universities in the country to stop the payment of salaries of lecturers who are on strike.

The no-work-no-pay rule was contained in a memo issued to universities and inter-varsity centres by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The memo, which was signed by the director, research, information and technology, S.B. Ramon-Yusuf, instructed that any attempt to pay the workers’ salaries from any other sources would be termed as a violation of extant rules and government’s directives.

The directive was issued in reaction to the indefinite strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on November 5.

The memo read: “In view of the current Industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Federal Government has directed that there shall be no payment of any form of salaries and allowances to the staff on strike in federal and inter-varsity centres.”

“Consequently, I am to direct vice-chancellors to apply the “No-work-no-pay” rule. However, universities and inter-varsity centres are to pay salaries and allowances to non-teaching staff. All Vice-Chancellors and Directors of Centers should note that the salaries to staff on strike from whatever source of funds shall be viewed as violation of extant rules and directive of the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

Bear in mind that the National President of ASUU, Abiodun Ogunyemi, had on Thursday disclosed that said students may spend more time at home since no solid agreement had been reached in its negotiation with the federal government.
