Ada Hegerberg Wins First Ever Women’s Ballon d’Or Award

Featured Image

Lyon and Norway striker Ada Hegerberg has won the first ever Ballon d’Or Féminin!

The 23-year-old saw off competition from the likes of Danish star Pernille Harder, of German club VfL Wolfsburg, and Brazil’s Marta to take the prize following a vote by journalists from around the world.

She was joined on stage by several of her club team-mates to receive the award

Hegerberg was the leading scorer with 15 goals as Lyon won the Champions League for the third year running.

The Ballon d’Or has been awarded to a men’s player by France Football every year since 1956, but this is the first year there has been a women’s award.

“I want to say thanks to my team-mates because this would not have been possible without them, my coach or our president Jean-Michel Aulas,” Hegerberg said at the ceremony in Paris.

“I also want to thank France Football. This is a huge step for women’s football.

Luka Modric Beats Ronaldo, Messi , Griezmann And Mbappe To Win The 2018 Ballon d’Or Award

Featured Image

Luka Modric has been named the winner of 2018’s Ballon d’Or Award

Luka Modric played an important role for his club as they won their third consecutive Champions League title, as well as captaining Croatia to second place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Croat beat off competition from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Antoine Griezmann, Raphael Varane and Lionel Messi

Modric now becomes the first player to break Messi and Ronaldo’s duopoly of the award since 2007, with Brazil’s Kaka was the last to lift the trophy before the Argentine and Portuguese stars collected five each across the following years.

He is also the seventh player from Real Madrid to lift the trophy, breaking a tie with Barcelona players. (Counting multiple winners, each club now has won 11 times over all, another record.)

Bishop Oyedepo Speaks On ‘Dead’ Buhari In New Video And Twitter Reacts

The Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, (Winners’ Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, is currently trending on social media after he quoted an article saying Buhari could have died when he sought medical treatment in London and that someone cloned as him is currently presiding over Nigeria.

FG Finally Addresses Rumours That Buhari Was Cloned With Jibril

The preacher said this on Sunday at his church auditorium in Otta, Ogun state, while commenting on the rumors that President Muhammadu Buhari is dead.

In the trending video, the cleric quoted an article written by Olatunji Dare, a columnist of the Nation Newspaper, saying Buhari could have died when he sought medical treatment in London and that someone cloned as him is currently presiding over Nigeria.

“I’m Not Jubril From Sudan” – Buhari Finally Reacts To Death Rumours

Referring to the piece, Oyedepo said the Nigerian government entered an agreement with the family of one Jubril in Sudan to give them a replacement for Buhari and that the resources of the nation is now being shared with Sudan.

Oyedebo noted that the report flying about “claiming among others that President Muhammadu Buhari had died in the UK while undergoing medical treatment,” was disturbing.

Buhari: The Real, The Fake And The Dead

He explained further that he had read article which claimed “The cabals in Aso Rock had procured a Buhari double in Sudan and made him Nigeria’s President.

”That also the representative of Jubril’s family who discovered the gigantic swindled suddenly showed up in Abuja and demanded to be compensated with the power-sharing arrangement at the federal level in perpetuating plus 50 percent of the Nigerians Oil revenues for 10 years in the first instance.

”The question is, has Nigeria now become a population of fools?’I believe it is time to come out of our slumber and salvage this country from slumber, if this evil tide is not dealt with decisively, Nigeria may be about to be re-colonized again but this time by another African country, what a shame and misfortune that would be, God forbid.

“If everything going on this issue particularly this outburst by the newspaper are mere speculation then let our President address the national issue right away to clear the nation.

”If the president will not address the nation on a subject as sensitive as this, it must have been proved beyond any iota of doubt that maybe he is not our president. On this note, we will rise and pray to God to rescue Nigeria, deliver this nation from slavery, restore the dignity of this nation, destroy the hold of evil men of our nation and deliver this Nation from shame, and reproach.”

Former RB Leipzig Boss Ralph Hasenhüttl Favourite To Replace Sacked Mark Hughes At Southampton

Featured Image

Former RB Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhüttl is the favourite to succeed Mark Hughes as Southampton manager as the Saints seek to make a quick appointment.

Mark Hughes was sacked on Monday morning after Southampton threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Manchester United on Saturday, leaving them with just one win in their first 14 Premier League matches this season, the lowest total in the Premier League.

According to The Telegraph Hasenhüttl is Southampton’s preferred choice and they hope to have him in place before the trip to Cardiff next Saturday.

Former Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores is also in the running but Hasenhüttl is regarded as the outstanding candidate. Southampton are not interested in making a ‘quick fix’ appointment like Sam Allardyce or David Moyes.

Saints’ former goalkeeper and first-team coach Kelvin Davis will take interim charge, including Wednesday’s trip to Tottenham, though the club hope to have appointed a new manager in time for Saturday’s trip to Cardiff.

Jurgen Klopp Charged By FA Over Celebratory Pitch Invasion Vs Everton

Featured Image

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been charged for running on to the pitch when he celebrated his side’s derby winner over Everton on Sunday.

The German manager was ecstatic with Divock Origi’s stoppage-time header, dashing from the touchline to hug Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

He apologised for his actions but the Football Association announced on Monday afternoon that he had been charged with misconduct.

Klopp has until 6pm on Thursday to respond to the charge.

The Liverpool boss said after the match: “I didn’t want to run. It was not in my plan.

“I didn’t want to run to Ali, I couldn’t stop obviously. Not cool, but it happened. The more important things happened during the 95 minutes.

Klopp says he apologised to Silva but the Portuguese claims he didn’t hear any apology

“Immediately after the game I apologised to (Everton boss) Marco Silva when we spoke to each other.”

Silva said he did not hear an apology from Klopp, and added: “To be honest I didn’t see (Klopp’s run). I don’t know what he did and the way he did it.

“It was a lucky day for him this afternoon but that is football. I don’t think he expected anything like that either.

“I cannot say it was disrespectful because I didn’t see, when I see that moment maybe I can speak more about that situation.”

Southampton Sack Manager Mark Hughes After Just Eight Months At The Club

Featured Image

Southampton have sacked manager Mark Hughes on Monday with the club in the Premier League’s relegation zone after only one win in 14 matches this season.

Mark Hughes spent eight months in charge of the team, with his final game being the 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Saturday in which Southampton squandered a two-goal lead.

That left Southampton in third-to-last place in the standings with more than a third of the season gone and in something of a crisis, having also parted company with vice chairman Les Reed and technical director Martin Hunter last month as part of a restructuring.

Assistant coach Kelvin Davis will take charge of Southampton’s game against Tottenham on Wednesday.

Hughes was hired in March with Southampton one place above the relegation zone. He managed to preserve Southampton’s top-flight status but the team has won only five of 27 games in all competitions under Hughes.

Hughes’s departure comes at a cost, with the club having to pay the Welshman around £6m in compensation after sacking him six months into signing a three-year contract in May. Hughes’s long-serving assistants Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki have also left.

PSG Manager Thomas Tuchel Confirms Neymar Will Miss Strasbourg Game Due To Injury

Featured Image

Neymar will miss Paris Saint-Germain’s next Ligue 1 game after seemingly suffering a recurrence of his groin injury, according to manager Thomas Tuchel.

Neymar gave PSG the lead at Bordeaux on Sunday, the goal standing after a long VAR check, but picked up an injury in the second half of the game

Kylian Mbappe fired PSG back in front after Jimmy Briand levelled, but Andreas Cornelius headed a late equaliser to end Tuchel’s winning run in Ligue 1 at 14 games.

PSG are back in action in midweek, away at Strasbourg, and Tuchel has already ruled Neymar out for the trip.

The Brazil captain was injured on international duty last month, hurting his groin against Cameroon in Milton Keynes, and missed the league win over Toulouse as a result.

“I think it’s the same injury,” Tuchel said to Canal+. “But I haven’t seen yet.

“We have to be careful. He said it was not a problem playing today.

“Hopefully, we will have him back after the Strasbourg game.”

AS Vita 3-1 Raja Casablanca: Despite Losing Raja End Fifteen Year Wait For A CAF Title

Featured Image

Moroccan club Raja Casablanca finally ended their 15-year wait for an African trophy by winning the CAF Confederation Cup in the Democratic Republic of Congo Sunday despite a 3-1 second-leg loss to V Club.

Raja, who won the last edition of the CAF Cup in 2003, beat V Club 3-0 in the first leg in Casablanca last Sunday and triumphed 4-3 on aggregate in the two-leg title decider.

It was the sixth CAF title for the Moroccans, who have also won the Champions League three times and the Super Cup once.

Abdelilah Hafidi put Raja ahead after 21 minutes on a synthetic pitch saturated by pre-match rain at the 80,000-seat Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa.

The goal left V Club, whose only CAF title came 45 years ago, needing to score five to win the second-tier African club competition.

Jean-Marc Makusu, who started after recovering from a first-leg injury, levelled on the night by slamming a free-kick high into the net during first-half stoppage time.

Raja appeared to be cruising toward overall victory until the Congolese scored twice within three minutes midway through the second half.

Substitute Mukoko Batezadio fired into the net after a goalmouth scramble on 71 minutes and Fabrice Ngoma converted a cross soon after to raise hopes of a sensational comeback.

But Raja stood firm and there were no further clearcut scoring chances for the Congolese, leaving them with an unwanted record of losing three of four CAF finals they reached.

Spain-born Raja handler Juan Carlos Garrido became the first coach to win the African equivalent of the UEFA Europa League with two clubs.

He guided Al Ahly of Egypt to a dramatic victory in the 2014 final with the decisive goal against Sewe San Pedro of the Ivory Coast coming after 96 minutes in Cairo.

Victory for Raja also confirmed the dominance of north African clubs in the Confederation Cup, which replaced the African Cup Winners Cup and CAF Cup competitions in 2004.

They are the fourth Moroccan club to lift the trophy after FAR Rabat (2005), FUS Rabat (2010) and Moghreb Fes (2011) and the 10th north African winners in 15 finals.

V Club, who won at home and drew away against Raja in the group stage, had hoped to emulate compatriots and arch domestic rivals TP Mazembe, winners of the 2016 and 2017 finals.

However, the odds were stacked against them as only Mouloudia Alger of Algeria had overcome a three-goal first-leg deficit in 108 previous home-and-away CAF club finals.

Raja will start defending the title on December 16 with a round-of-32 home fixture in the 2018/2019 edition against Silver Strikers of Malawi or Cercle Mberi Sportif of Gabon.

Diego Costa To Undergo Foot Operation In Brazil

Featured Image

Diego Costa will undergo an operation in Brazil this week to help speed his recovery from a foot injury.

Atletico Madrid would not estimate how long Diego Costa might be out but said the striker had been feeling discomfort in his left foot for several weeks.

A statement from Atletico read: “Diego Costa will have surgery this week due to the discomfort he has been suffering in his left foot in recent weeks.

“After assessing the different options, the decision has been made that the operation be carried out in Brazil, where it will be supervised by the medical services of Atletico Madrid.

“The player, who underwent surgery on the fifth metatarsal of his left foot twelve years ago, suffers from discomfort following a knock that occurred a few weeks ago.”

Costa played 90 minutes against Girona on Sunday and helped Atletico rescue a 1-1 draw as his run prompted Jonas Ramalho to score a late own-goal.

We have ideas,” Maldini said when asked about the duo. (Sky Sport Italia, via Football Italia)

ASUU: FG Withdraws ‘No Work No Pay’ Threat On Striking Lecturers As Negotiation Continues Today

ASUU: FG Withdraws ‘No Work No Pay’ Threat On Striking Lecturers As Negotiation Continues Today

The Federal Government has withdrawn the recent threat to activate the ‘no work no pay policy’ against striking university lecturers, the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, has said.

Strike: ASUU Reacts To FG’s ‘No Work, No Pay’ Policy

Ogunyemi said this on Sunday during an exclusive chat with Vanguard Newspaper.

ASUU Strike: FG Orders Varsities To Stop Paying Salaries To Striking Lecturers

According to him, the negotiation meeting between ASUU and the Federal Government would continue on Monday.

He said:  “Well, we have confirmed that they have withdrawn that threat (no work no pay). So it appears the threat is not there for now.

“But even if the threat is there, we are prepared for that because for our members, no sacrifice is too much to salvage Nigeria’s education.

“Shortly before our action while the NLC (Nigeria Labour Congress) hullabaloo was going on with federal government, they went to the Federal Executive Council that they were activating that rule.”

The terms and conditions to call off strike

Ahead of the meeting, the ASUU President had earlier given conditions upon which the current industrial action will be suspended.

“Some of these conditions, ASUU said, include the full implementation of the Memorandum of Action (MoA) the two parties willingly signed in October 2017.”

“So the MoA must be implemented fully before we can even talk of suspension of the strike. If they implement the outstanding issues in the MoA fully and change the leadership of the negotiating team, then we can go back to the negotiation,” Mr Ogunyemi had said.

Buhari: The Real, The Fake And The Dead

Buhari: The real, the fake and the dead – Tunde Odesola

He is awesome. He is God. His awesomeness flows from an amazing simplicity, which created Man – the ultimate mammal – from mere clay and breath, after forging the universe and everything thereof with the ‘Let-there-be’ phrase. The beauty of creation laid in its simplicity and sophistication until Man murdered simplicity to worship eternally at the altar of complication.

This piece was written by Tunde Odesola. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of

Though simple in outlook, Nigerians loved and respected their President, on whom they showered enormous goodwill. But complication soon set in and the hue of governance changed from light to darkness.

“I’m Not Jubril From Sudan” – Buhari Finally Reacts To Death Rumours

President Muhammadu Buhari is dead. He died since early last year. He’s cloned. A certain body double and Sudanese Fulani prisoner, Jubril, is bestriding Aso Rock, the nation’s seat of power in Buhari’s stead. The rumour mill is busy. However, conspiracy and whispering, the two ancient companions of gossiping, are missing in the Buhari-is-dead rumour-mongering. These rumour- mongers don’t beat silent gongs; they have modern mass communication gadgets. They don’t whisper to the ears, conspiratorially; they roar on rooftops, defiantly. They belong to the political elite that have been feeding fat on the ignorance, illiteracy and vulnerability of the masses – long before Lord Frederick Lugard lowered the Union Jack in Nigeria on October 1, 1960. These mongers are bold and daring. Buhari has joined his ancestors, they insisted, quoting the time, the date and the circumstances of the death. Prominent among the rumour-mongers is a pro-Biafra misfit leader, whose name isn’t worth dignifying with a mention. Another is a former minister, a lawyer and backscratcher from the South-West, who has a penchant for speaking before thinking. Both are self-seeking hustlers who daily crave for media attention, which I’m not ready to oblige here.

While the former is attired in a self-imposed, oversized pro-ethnic garment atop a pair of outsized shoes, the latter, a rabble-rouser, is just an opportunist on the trail of the whiff of money. Going by his recent misguided messages online, the so-called charlatan spiritual leader, who spoke from a foreign land recently, is eminently unarmed for the great task which Igbo self-determinism entails. This jester from the land of the rising sun and the hoaxer from the land of the setting sun are only exploiting the self-inflicted woes President Muhammadu Buhari brought upon himself, his All Progressives Congress and the country, in general.

They said the real Buhari died a long time ago for the fake Buhari to germinate on the Rock of Aso. No. But by being deceitful, ineffective, insincere, unfeeling, non-proactive and distant to the masses, Buhari provided the pseudo pro-Igbo activist, the Yoruba braggart and their numerous co-travellers sufficient paint to write, “Rest in Peace, President Muhammadu Buhari: (1942-2016),” on a cheap coffin purchased in the nation’s political arena, where commonsense is absent.

For me, the real Buhari is not dead. The real Buhari surfaced on the nation’s political terrain on the last day of 1983 when he led a gang of military boys to overthrow the prodigal Shehu Shagari civilian administration. The real Buhari started the War against Indiscipline and brought back sanity to a corrupt nation, though some of his policies backfired, resulting in inflation and concomitant gnashing of teeth among the citizenry. The real Buhari was rigid and tough. He commanded respect and fear within the military and across the country. The real Buhari was the no-nonsense, low-profile Daura cattle owner, whose military pedigree Nigerians chose at the poll in 2015 over the corrupt, unimaginative and small-minded Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Though a creation of the political elite, the masses believe in the existence of the fake Buhari because their hope for a better tomorrow through the real Buhari they voted for in March 2015 has been wickedly dashed. The prevarication in Buhari’s popular line, “I am for everybody. I’m for nobody,” cemented the insincerity and confusion of his government, as it let out a sign of weakness which political hounds exploited. Nigerians voted for security; they got blood on their streets. They voted for prosperity, but poverty stalks the land, increasing suicide rate. They voted for unity; they got clannishness. They voted for justice, they got selective justice. They voted for the uprooting of Boko Haram; Boko Haram flourished and gave birth to killer herdsmen. They voted for compassion; they got cold-bloodedness with the President condoling with Rivers people over the fatal collapse of a seven-story building in Port Harcourt, seven days after the incident! But governance stood still immediately Yusuf, his son, had an okada accident in Abuja last December as top medical consultants speedily attended to him before he was flown to Germany for further treatment. Nigerian masses are disappointed: this can’t be the firebrand Buhari they overwhelmingly voted for in 2015. This must be a fake.

I know the dead Buhari. He is the creation of the aggressively greedy opposition bent on returning to power in 2019 through all means inglorious. They’ve since discovered that the bleating lion of Daura is crippled, after all. Now, they’re closing in on the old beast with cudgels, spears and daggers as the feverish lion battles to rise up. They want him out of the villa: dead or alive, or both!

It was his beautiful wife, Aisha, who, in October 2016, noticed the fire dying out in the old Buhari, and she screamed on the top of her voice, alerting the nation that her once-upon-a-time tough-talking soldier-husband had been hijacked by a cabal and turned into a dripping sponge. Aisha lamented, “I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again, and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again. The President does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed, and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife for 27 years. I may not back him at the next election unless he shakes up his government.”

FG Finally Addresses Rumours That Buhari Was Cloned With Jibril

Aisha saw the stranger her husband had become, she saw the roaring fire smouldering into ashes and she raised the alarm, but the cabal pinned down the old soja, hijacked power and ensured that the last glow of the Buhari blaze petered out. They extinguished the fire over two years ago.

Depending on their level of reasoning, enlightenment, political affiliation or ignorance, Nigerians from all walks of life have chosen to identify with any of the real, the fake or the dead Buhari. A country with an adult literacy population of about 59.6% in 2015, Nigeria cannot be expected to be as enlightened as Russia, the country with the highest literacy rate in the world with over 95% of the population having higher secondary education. It is, however, laughable and sad that some Nigerians would believe that Buhari would die in a London hospital, and would be flown to Saudi Arabia for burial, without the press knowing. And Aisha, her children and all extended family members would keep quiet? Nothing can be more stupid. One fellow even said that a minute silence was observed for the repose of Buhari’s soul when African leaders met recently in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, even as there was an imaginary letter ostensibly from the Queen of England, condoling with Nigeria over the passing of Buhari. The pictures of Buhari writing with his left and right hands are no-brainers for any eight-year-old who can manipulate a simple camera.

From Abuja to London and Riyadh, echoes of Buhari’s body double and political decoy reverberate. But most African leaders, including Cameroon’s 85-year-old Paul Biya, are sit-tight despots; they prefer to die in power than vacate.

Buhari is not dead; he is only not real, and unfit to be President, like Atiku Abubakar.

NLC Tells FG To Hasten Up On N30,000 Minimum Wage Proposal

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the federal government to speed-up the process of drafting the bill on the N30,000 minimum wage proposal to the National Assembly, adding that it would not wait till eternity for the government on the issue.

“I’m Not Jubril From Sudan” – Buhari Finally Reacts To Death Rumours

The union also described the government’s silence on the development as provocative, stressing that it expected President Muhammadu Buhari to have submeitted a draft bill to the National Assembly weeks after report on the minimum wage was submitted to him.

The General Secretary of the NLC, Mr Peter Ozo-Eson, who spoke with The Punch, said members of the union were becoming restless with the way the government had handled the issue.

Fuel Crisis Looms As Marketers Give FG 7-Day Ultimatum To Pay N800b Subsidy Debts

He added that unless government acted fast, the union might meet again to review government’s position and take necessary action to press home its demand.

His words: “The latest about the issue of the minimum wage is clear. We expect that since the Presidency had already received our report, the President should have drafted an executive bill to the National Assembly on it so that they can begin to legislate on it.

“That has not been done even though we expect that it should have been done already. We cannot continue to wait forever.

“The next step as I said is for the President to transmit a draft bill to the National Assembly. The FG’s delay on the issue is provocative, our members are becoming restless and the FG must act fast on our report.

“If the delay continues, our next step will be made public after we meet again to review the steps taken so far.”

CBN Moves To Add More To The 41 Items Not Eligible For Forex

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) appears to be considering to increase the number of items not eligible for forex from 41 items to include many others products being produced in Nigeria.

The CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele stated this during the weekend while addressing the 53rd Annual Bankers Dinner in Lagos.

According to him, the bank, based on internal research, has received a recommendation to do so, following a drop of the country’s monthly import bill from $665.4 million in January 2015, to $160.4 million as at October 2018.

His words: “Based on our internal research conducted at the Central Bank of Nigeria, there is strong support that the recovery of our economy from the recession may have been much weaker or even negative, without the implementation of the restriction on 41 items.”

“Our research supports the conclusion that the combination of the restriction on 41 items along with other measures imposed by the fiscal and monetary authorities has helped to promote the recovery.

“In fact, recommendations are being made to the CBN that the list of 41 items be expanded to include other additional items that can be locally produced.”

Emefiele said Nigeria must not lose the progress already made in driving local production, across the nation.

He continued: “We are glad with the accomplishments recorded so far. Accordingly, this policy is expected to continue with vigour until the underlying imbalances within the Nigerian economy have been fully resolved.”

“If we continue to support the growth of smallholder farmers, as well as help to revive palm oil refineries, rice mills, cassava, and tomato processing factories, you can only imagine the amount of wealth and jobs that will be created in the country.”

Boca Juniors And River Plate Fans Reject Copa Libertadores Final Game In Santiago Bernabeu

Featured Image

The Copa Libertadores final remains in jeopa, with both Argentine clubs River Plate and Boca Juniors objecting to the staging of the rearranged second leg at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium.

The governing body of South American football CONMEBOL announced this week that the game, which was postponed twice after River Plate fans attacked a bus carrying Boca players, will be played outside of Argentina, with the Bernabeu in Madrid selected as the venue for the rearranged second leg on December 9.

But the choice of the La Liga stadium has not gone down well with the two clubs.

River has issued an objection to losing out on the home-field advantage of playing the game in their Monumental stadium, saying their fans did not deserve to miss out on watching the final.

River issued a statement, saying: “Club Atletico River Plate informs that it will make the legal proposals and the pertinent appeals in relation to the decisions of the South American Football Confederation [CONMEBOL] and its Disciplinary Court, in relation to the change of venue arranged on the final match of the Copa Libertadores 2018, the economic sanction and the prohibition to dispute with audience two official parties organised by CONMEBOL.”

The statement continued, calling it “incomprehensible” that the match could not be played in Argentina, saying “the change of venue and decision distorts the competition, harms those who acquired a ticket and affects the equality of conditions.”

An official statement from Boca, meanwhile, objects to the playing of the game in any venue.

Boca’s call to be awarded the win via River’s disqualification has been rejected by CONMEBOL, but the club has maintained its stance, and issued a statement saying it would “exhaust all the ways and means available to ensure that justice is served.”

Uefa Confirms New European Club Competition Will Start In 2021

Featured Image

A new competition in which the winner will qualify for the Europa League will begin from2021, UEFA has revealed.

UEFA has announced details of a new European club competition to be launched in 2021.

The creation of the tournament, which has the working title of UEL2, was approved following a meeting in Dublin, with the governing body saying its inception will ensure at least 34 countries will be represented in the group stages of UEFA club competitions.

Running alongside the Champions League and Europa League, the competition will feature 32 teams in the group stage, with games to be played on Thursdays.

Before the last 16 an additional knockout round will be played between the second-place finishers in the group stage and the sides who finish third in their respective Europa League groups. The winner of the competition will qualify for the subsequent season’s Europa League.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said: “The new UEFA club competition makes UEFA’s club competitions more inclusive than ever before. There will be more matches for more clubs, with more associations represented in the group stages.

“This competition was borne out of ongoing dialogue with clubs through the European Club Association. There was a widespread demand by all clubs to increase their chances of participating more regularly in European competition.

“This has been achieved with a strategic approach, and in accordance with UEFA’s objective of having both more quality and more inclusivity in our club competitions.”

Metropolitan Police Comfirm Tottenham Fan Was Arrested For Throwing Banana At Aubameyang

Featured Image

Metropolitan Police confirmed that seven arrests were made at the Premier League match between Arsenal and Tottenham.

A supporter was arrested for throwing an object on the pitch during the north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham.

Metropolitan Police revealed to Omnisport that seven arrests were made, including one for throwing a missile onto the field of play, during Sunday’s Premier League game at Emirates Stadium.

Television replays showed a banana skin present on the pitch as Arsenal celebrated their opening goal, scored by Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the penalty spot.

Aubameyang later scored again with Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira also on target in a 4-2 victory for the hosts. Emery praised the atmosphere at Emirates Stadium during the game, suggesting it inspired Arsenal’s victory.

“They pushed a lot for us,” he told Sky Sports. “In a difficult moment in the first half, we kept calm.

“We spoke in the dressing room and we were having good minutes in the game. [We said] The result is not good, but we can continue in our work and our planning for the game. The supporters are going to push us.

“We were watching Tottenham play at home against Chelsea, they won, with a big, big performance with their supporters. We were speaking about that.”
