Frenkie De Jong is on his way to Paris Saint-Germain. The 21-year-old had previously been a Barcelona and Manchester City transfer target, but it is the Parisians who seem to have got their man.

A delegation from the Ligue 1 champions travelled to Amsterdam, with a meeting taking place between the sporting directors of the two clubs, Antero Henrique of PSG and Marc Overmars of Ajax. The proposed fee for the move is said to be €75m (£66.87m). (Telegraaf)

Italy

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Juventus defender Alex Sandro have been dealt a blow. Sandro is set to sign a new contract with the Serie A champions lasting until 2023. (Corriere dello Sport)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s proposed loan move to AC Milan could be jeopardised by Financial Fair Play. Discussions between the clubs have reportedly been ongoing for more than a week, but FFP could make things difficult for Milan. (Mediaset)

Former Sunderland player Fabio Borini is a Newcastle United transfer target. The Italian has only made 11 appearances and scored one goal for AC Milan this season and the Serie A club could be open to offers if they were to receive one. (Tuttomercato)

France

Mario Balotelli is likely to leave Nice when his contract expires at the end of the season. The club’s president, Jean-Pierre Rivere, was asked whether the former Manchester City and Liverpool striker would still be at the club after the summer. “An [contract] extension?” Rivere said. “No, I think it will be over.” (RMC)

Germany

World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard has spoken about his future, in the broadest possible terms. The 22-year-old defender’s contract at current club Stuttgart doesn’t expire until 2021 and has been linked with Bayern Munich and Napoli. He has said “anything is possible.” (Kicker)

“I am Kingsley Coman, not the new Franck Ribery,” Bayern Munich and France winger Kingsley Coman has insisted. With Arjen Robben having announced his decision to leave Bayern at the end of the season and Ribery also in his thirties, an increased emphasis is on Coman, 22. “The two are really emblematic,” he added. “I would like to stay at Bayern for a long time and have a career similar to theirs.” (Abendzeitung)

Spain

Ernesto Valverde wants to make a signing in January. Barcelona had previously given indications that they wouldn’t be looking to make any transfers, but an injury to Samuel Umtiti has left the manager wanting to strengthen the centre-back position. The French defender may need knee surgery, but the club are still waiting to see how the situation develops. (Sport)

Barcelona are also keeping an eye on Ecuadorian teenager Gonzalo Plata. The 18-year-old currently plays for Independiente del Valle and his agent claims that there are several top clubs enquiring about his situation. (Sport)

I’m Working To Fix The Problems At Chelsea – Maurizio Sarri

Featured Image

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has admitted he’s striving to fix the “problems” within his squad that have seen them slip further behind in the Premier League title race in the last month.

After 12 games unbeaten at the start of the 2018-19 season, Chelsea have won once in their last four matches – losing to Tottenham and Wolves after a draw with Everton.

That run has seen Chelsea fall 10 points behind leaders Manchester City – who they face on Saturday – and Sarri has identified issues that need fixing before they can challenge Pep Guardiola’s side for silverware.

“We have a problem to manage the match at the moment,” he told a media conference.

“In the last two matches we played well for 55, 60 minutes but at the first difficulty we blacked out.

“In the first match [a 2-0 win over Fulham] we were lucky because they didn’t score. In the last match [against Wolves] we were a little unlucky as our opponent had five shots and only two on target, and we conceded two goals. But, after the first goal, we went into [a] blackout and were not able to react.”

When asked to put his finger on what was causing the problem, Sarri added: “It’s not easy to answer.

“I saw in the last matches that when there is the first difficulty we blacked out, we didn’t react as a team but as 11 players in 11 different ways, so it is a big problem.

“I knew sooner or later we would have to deal with these difficulties. When you change the way of playing, the way of football, you need to change the mentality, and you need to change the mentality of 25 minds.

“It is not a quick [process]. It is very difficult, as we saw in [the games against] Liverpool and Manchester [United], but after the solution of the difficulties, you can create something very important.

“We need a collective target, it can give us motivation, and that can gives us determination. I saw that in some matches we lack determination, like in the last match, we were not able to have the right determination to win the match.”

As Chelsea’s form has stuttered, some have questioned Sarri’s use of N’Golo Kante in a more advanced midfield role than in previous years, but the Italian insists that has only happened because results are not going their way.

“The problem is only the results,” he added. “When we won, the position of N’Golo was good.

“At the moment, we’re not winning so it’s normal that [people say] some players are playing very badly, some are in the wrong positions.

“I have explained why Kante plays in that position, I have my opinion, I can understand that someone else doesn’t agree, but I explained very well why.”

Pep Guardiola Confirms Sergio Aguero And Kevin De Bruyne Will Miss Match Against Chelsea

Featured Image

Manchester City man Pep Guardiola has confirmed that both Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne have been ruled out of their away trip to Chelsea this weekend.

Sergio Aguero had been struggling with tightness in his adductor muscle in recent weeks, but after sitting out the champions’ last two matches, the Argentine is still not fit enough to face Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne has been absent for the majority of the season thus far, after suffering from two serious knee injuries. And he has now also been ruled out of a return to his former club on Saturday.

City boss Pep Guardiola confirmed the news on Friday, stating: “Both cannot play. Both will be back soon. Always Stamford Bridge is difficult. I have travelled there many times as a manager and won once – last season. Most times I lose there.”

Buhari Rejects Electoral Act Bill – Returns The Bill To NASS For The Fourth Time

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday declined assent to the 2018 Electoral Act Amendment bill and returned it to the National Assembly.

This is the fourth time the president will be declining assent to the Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2018.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly matters (Senate), Ita Enang, who refused to state the reasons behind the President’s rejection, said he has communicated to the National Assembly on the decision taken on the Electoral Act.

The President had three times rejected assent to the bill, a development which has continued to generate speculations.

The first time was as a result of the re-ordering of election sequence. The president also declined to sign the bill on the account of drafting errors.

Enang, who was not categorical on whether the President rejected the bill, said that it’s the National Assembly that can reveal the content of the communication.

He said “the president has taken a decision in accordance with the powers vested in him according to the Constitution. And by convention that decision contained in the communication can only be revealed by the person to whom that decision is addressed. But the electoral bill has left Mr. President because he has taken a decision and has remitted it back.”

But he said that the President has signed the National Open University bill into law.

Dear Bishop Oyedepo, God Is Not Happy With Your False Witness On Jubril

Featured Image

Dear Bishop Oyedepo, God Is Not Happy With Your False Witness On Jubril By Churchill Okonkwo

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

On the weekend that Fr. Mbaka was shamelessly trying to extort money by harassing and blackmailing Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, you, Bishop David Oyedepo was busy maliciously gossiping (from the altar) about President Buhari as one Jubril from Sudan. While Fr. Mbaka was driven by the quest for money, you, Bishop Oyedepo, blinded by hatred was driven by desperation for power. As a Christian, it was a depressing weekend as I was left wondering what’s happening to Christianity in Nigeria?

This piece was written by Churchill Okonkwo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Clearly, you, Bishop Oyedepo was blinded by his hatred of President Buhari when you read the satire “Matters miscellaneous” by Prof. Olatunji Dare in the Nation Newspaper of November 27 th , 2018. If not, there is no explanation why you and your team should degenerate to the devilish innuendos that Nigerian President is one Jubril from Sudan. Prof. Dare employed satire by exaggeration in his piece as a technique to expose the foolishness of people insinuating that Buhari is one Jubril. Yet, blinded by hatred, you, Bishop Oyedepo fell for it. What a ridicule you made of yourself and your congregation that was shouting Amen in unionism to malicious prayers.

(WATCH): Bishop Oyedepo Speaks On ‘Dead’ Buhari In New Video And Twitter Reacts

Dear Bishop Oyedepo, beyond your unhidden desire to regain influence that you used to exert when Goodluck Jonathan was in power, there is something gratingly noxious about your hatred of President Buhari. From making a mockery of President Buhari at every opportunity to shamelessly embracing a corrupt Atiku and the PDP in a desperate move to regain influence, your “blind” hatred of Buhari is so intense that it has led you to utterances that are unbecoming of a man of God.

Proverbs 26:24-26 says that “whoever hates disguises himself with his lips and harbors deceit in his heart; when he speaks graciously, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart; though his hatred be covered with deception, his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.” Dear, Bishop, you goofed by exposing your hatred of Buhari. What should the people of God do when hatred is spewed from God’s altar? Shout Amen to prayers that are driven by disdain and hate or cover their eyes and run out of the church? What is happening to Christianity in Nigeria?

In Exodus 23: 1, we were told “do not spread false reports. Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness. But here we you, Bishop Oyedepo acting as a malicious witness, Nnamdi Kanu’s mouthpiece and Atiku’s campaign manager all at once. I wouldn’t have worried so much, but the fact that you did all these from the altar of God should trouble every Christian.

To show how mischievous and malicious you are, you made no mention of Prof Dare’s reference in the same satire, to dependable sources telling him that “Abuja is close to unraveling the identity of the fake Jew parading himself on faked foreign soil as Nnamdi Kanu.”

Selective amnesia? You, Bishop Oyedepo and your team clearly selected a section of Prof. Dare’s piece that will advance your malicious agenda of slandering President Buhari, period.

Dear Bishop, your blind hatred of Buhari is unreasoning hatred, a hatred and fury over which you have lost control of yourself, yet again. This is grievously sinful as we are to remain in control of ourselves always, loving our brothers, and not wishing death on fellow beings. Hatred may not be sinful if it is directed towards some evil quality that a person has but does not touch that person.

Buhari: The Real, The Fake And The Dead

For example, it would have been understandable if you dislike Buhari because of the failure of his administration to deliver on the promise of stamping out Boko Haram or revamping Nigerian economy. It is, however, sinful when you, Bishop Oyedepo extends your hatred to the person of Buhari by engaging in malicious gossip. Of course, you cannot possibly claim to hate Buhari for not stamping out corruption while kissing and caressing Atiku Abubakar and the PDP.

So, why engage in this needless slandering?

Scripture uses the word slander which means making a false spoken statement damaging to a person’s reputation. Slander can destroy someone's marriage, job, wealth, and family.

Let me refer you, Bishop and your congregations and all Christians to the Words from the Holy Book. Ephesians 4:29 says “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what

is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

What was the benefit of the gossip on Buhari from you to your congregation and Christians? Nothing spiritual or related to salvation. The gossip was purely political to advance your personal agenda.

Among the things that the Lord hates is a false witness who pour out lies (Proverbs 6:16-19). What were you expecting Bishop when he poured out his heart about an imaginary slavery from a Sudanese Jubril? In his testimony and witnessing, Paul spoke the truth faithfully (2 Corinthians 11:31; 1 Timothy 2:7). Did you speak to your congregation faithfully and truthfully?

Was Fr. Mbaka speaking truthfully when he cajoled Peter Obi to spit money or his December 31 st prophesy will go against him and Atiku? What happened to true Christianity?

Bishop, you stated in the video that went viral that “if the President will not address the nation on a subject as sensitive as this, it must have been proved beyond any iota of doubt that maybe he is not our President.”

In case you and your team are claiming ignorance, I want to inform you that President Buhari saw the evil in their hearts and have addressed that unnecessary and idiotic
insinuation over the weekend in Poland. He stated and I quote “I can assure you all that this is the real me. Later this month I will celebrate my 76th birthday. And I’m still going strong!”

“I’m Not Jubril From Sudan” – Buhari Finally Reacts To Death Rumours

Leviticus 19: 16 warned Christians not to “go about spreading slander among your people.” So, I challenge you, Bishop Oyedepo to retract your malicious innuendo and apologize to President Buhari and Nigerians in the same altar of God. I will love to see the same congregation shout a loud Amen to your prayer of good health for Buhari next Sunday. Failure to do this, to use your exact words, “will prove beyond any iota of doubt” that you are not a true man of God. It is that simple.

Finally, to my Christian brothers and sisters, I will leave you with these Words from the Holy Book. As followers of Christ Jesus, our testimony should be based and anchored on TRUTH. If you tell lies, you draw loyalty to yourself, and not to Christ; He is TRUTH! (John 14:6) and He testified to the truth (John 18:37). We should earnestly pray for deliverance from deception (Joshua 1:8; 2 Timothy 2:15). We should not seek to hear only what is appealing to the ears or the flesh (Jeremiah 5:31; 2 Timothy 4:3). The time to STOP the foolishness on Jubril or Jubrin or whatever is NOW. These are the Words of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Cardi B, Drake, Ariana Grande Are Top Contenders For 2019 Grammy Nominations

Cardi B, Drake, Ariana Grande Are Top Contenders For 2019 Grammy Nominations

Cardi B, Drake and Ariana Grande are top contenders for Friday’s Grammy nominations, with an expansion of the four big categories that could mean more recognition for women and minorities on music’s biggest night.

After the last gala in January quickly drowned in criticism that the winners were consistently too white and too male, the Recording Academy created a diversity task force.

The head of the academy — which includes more than 13,000 music professionals — said in May he would step aside when his contract expires near year, amid outrage after he said women artists should “step up.”

Then in June, it announced an expansion from five to eight of the 2019 nominee fields for Album of the Year; Record of the Year, for best overall song; Song of the Year, which honours songwriting; and Best New Artist.

The other categories will remain at five nominees for the ceremony to take place on February 10 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The last Grammys marked the first time that hip-hop dominated the nominations — but the academy fell under sharp criticism after pop-funk revivalist Bruno Mars swept the top awards.

Rap mogul Jay-Z, who led with eight nominations, left New York’s Madison Square Garden empty-handed. For the second time, Kendrick Lamar swept the rap awards but was shut out in the general categories.

This year, Jay-Z and his superstar wife Beyonce are expected to get a nod in the coveted Album of the Year category for their joint project Everything is Love, which dropped in June to critical acclaim.

Canadian rapper Drake is another likely nominee for his album Scorpion, while perennial favourite Taylor Swift could snag a spot for Reputation.

Grande’s fourth studio album Sweetener and Cardi B’s debut Invasion of Privacy are other likely frontrunners for the top award, and critical darling Janelle Monae could enter the running with Dirty Computer.

Golden Hour — a smooth fusion of pop and country that showcases singer Kacey Musgraves’ rolling drawl — is also a likely contender in the prestigious category.

– Gaga: Globes and Grammys? –

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper — who each snared two Golden Globe nominations on Thursday for musical romance A Star Is Born — could get some Song of the Year love from the academy for their performance of the film’s hit single “Shallow.”

The film’s soundtrack, however, came out after the Grammy eligibility period so is therefore not in the running for the album prize.

Other Song of the Year contenders include Ed Sheeran and Beyonce for Perfect, Maroon 5’s Girls Like You, or Swift’s Delicate.

Other possible nominees are Childish Gambino’s This Is America — whose graphic music video went viral with its powerful message on gun violence and racism — or one of Drake’s six singles from Scorpion.

Some overlap is likely in the Record of the Year category, which recognises track producers and performers.

Cardi B’s saucy summer hit I Like It — which features Puerto Rican Latin trap artist Bad Bunny and Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin — is among the obvious choices.

But last year’s Grammy snub of bilingual mega-hit “Despacito” in the Record of the Year and Song of the Year categories has critics skeptical that a non-English track, no matter how popular, can score a major award.

The controversial Best New Artist category is likely to again be contentious, after Canadian singer Alessia Cara won the 2018 award for a nearly three-year-old album.

Rapper Post Malone is reportedly out of the running as is former Fifth Harmony singer Camila Cabello, while late rapper XXXTentacion — who was shot dead in an apparent robbery in June — could be ruled out on a technicality over the number of songs he had released.

Despite her year of whirlwind success, relative newbie Cardi B is also ineligible to garner a nomination for Best New Artist, having already been nominated in other categories for the 2018 Grammy Awards.

Pop stars Dua Lipa and Troye Sivan are possible contenders, as is country singer Luke Combs, British singer Jorja Smith or rapper Lil Pump.

And in another voting revision to promote inclusion, this year’s Best World Music Album nominations — persistently dominated by a few favourites — will be chosen by a review committee out of a pool of 15 put forward by Academy members.

The nominations come two days later than originally scheduled — they were pushed back from Wednesday for the state funeral of former US president George H.W. Bush.

The 2019 ceremony takes place on 10 February at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

Igbo People In Northern Nigeria Banned From Travelling Due To 2019 Elections

Igbo people who are based in 19 northern states in Nigeria have been banned from travelling to their states of origin to vote in next year’s general elections.

Nigerian Guardian reports that any person who flouts the directive would be fined an undisclosed amount of money.

It added that the decision was reached following an extraordinary meeting of the Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA), an administrative umbrella organisation of Igbo resident in the northern states and Abuja in Barnawa, Kaduna State.

The organisation said this in a statement jointly signed by President General Chief Chikezie Nwogu and Secretary General Austin Ofokansi Ifedinezi.

In attendance were executives, all Eze Igbos and chapter presidents in the 19 states.

The IDA also urged members to remain law-abiding in their states of residence.

It said: “We want our people to stay in their respective states and cast their votes. The era of running home during elections cannot be tolerated again. There is no need for us to go home at every election because if you do that you will automatically disenfranchise yourself.

“We have done a lot of sensitisation. We have also educated our people on this and we all agreed. That is why we decided to place an embargo. And if you travel, IDA will fine such person(s).”

IDA is responsible for members’ welfare.

193 Stranded Nigerians Return From Libya

193 Stranded Nigerians Return From Libya

The National Emergency Management Agency has received another batch of 193 stranded Nigerians from Libya.

Mr Segun Afolayan, Acting Zonal Coordinator, NEMA, South West Zone, confirmed the development to the newsmen on Friday in Lagos.

Afolayan said the Nigerians arrived at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at 8:32pm on Thursday aboard a chartered Nouvel Air aircraft with registration number UZ 189.

He said the returnees were assisted back home by the International Organisation for Migration under its Assisted Voluntary Return Programme.

Afolayan said the returnees comprised 81 female adults, one female child and 14 female infants.

He said they also included 87 male adults, five male children and five male infants.

Afolayan urged Nigerians to stop stigmatising returnees who went outside the country in search of greener pastures.

“It is a right for everyone to live free and comfortable lives but the process or the means of seeking the fulfilment of the rights are the ones in contention.

“Many of these innocent victims are not aware of the dangers on the routes of the journey. They fall easily to the deceitful and deceptive promises of a better life outside the country.

“Nigerians need to accept that the menace of irregular migration and all hands must be on deck to save our innocent youths from embarking on such perilous journeys henceforth,” he said.

Afolayan advised the returnees to remain positive and undaunted by their unfortunate experiences in the volatile North African country, adding that they should be focused on how to improve their lives in Nigeria.

According to him, the Federal Government, IOM and the European Union have been providing opportunities for the returnees through various skills acquisition programmes.

Afolayan, therefore, appealed to the private sector to assist the government in the reintegration of the returnees to make them more productive.

Kevin Hart Quits As Host Of Oscars 2019 – Barely Days After Acceptance

Kevin Hart has announced that he is stepping down as host of next year’s Oscars ceremony following an outcry over perceived homophobic comments and tweets from the comedian years ago.

The award-winning comedian and comic-actor, who has starred in movies such as “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and “Ride Along,” is rejecting the job barely days after he described the role as one that fulfils his longtime dream.

Kevin Hart Announced As Host Of Oscars 2019

But in a tweet late on Thursday he said he had chosen to step down “because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists”.

“I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”

EBSU: Nigerian University Sacks 63 Lecturers

EBSU: Nigerian University Sacks 63 Lecturers

The management of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) on Thursday, December 6, said it has sacked 63 lecturers for various offences including sexual harassment, alleged certificate forgery and extortion, among others.

Their dismissal was confirmed by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Patrick Itumo.

While some of those sacked were lecturers who had overstayed, Itumo said most of them reportedly obtained the West African School Certificate Examination (WASC) before the First School Leaving Certificate.

They were said to have falsified their birth certificates and other credentials.

“As I speak to you, only 63 staff were disengaged. Some of them have age discrepancies in their records. Some obtained doubtful First School Leaving Certificates; some obtained their WAEC before their First School Leaving Certificates,” he said.

On the alleged sex-for-mark scandal, he admitted that two lecturers had been relieved of their appointments.

He continued: “Recently, the university dismissed some lecturers; one lecturer was from the Department of History and International Relations (HIR); he was dismissed for sexual harassment and extortion.

“Dr (name withheld) was attachéd to the Faculty of Education; he too was dismissed for sexual harassment. I think these two suffice for now. But others are being investigated.

“I wouldn’t give the record because it is committee matters. The members are currently working in line with their mandate; we will not pry into their activities until they come up with their report.”

The spokesman said their sack followed audit report submitted by a committee set up to verify workers’ credentials.

Itumo urged students, who have suffered sexual harassment, to report the incident to the school authority, adding that the management would protect such students from victimisation.

Has NYSC Cancelled Davido’s One-Year Service For Violating Its Bye-Laws?

Has NYSC Cancelled Davido’s One-Year Service For Violating Its Bye-Laws?

It appears like the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has wielded its mighty rod on multi award-winning singer, David Adeleke, better known as Davido; thereby, cancelling the compulsory one-year orientation exercise embarked upon by the singer.

The ‘Fall’ crooner confirmed this on Instagram after popular entertainment promoter, Adesegun Adeosun, better known as King Smade, who just finished his three-week NYSC orientation program, was given a commendation for outstanding performance by the service.

Has NYSC Cancelled Davido’s One-Year Service For Violating Its Bye-Laws?

Has NYSC Cancelled Davido’s One-Year Service For Violating Its Bye-Laws?

Reacting to the post made by Smade, Davido wrote “Naso dem cancel my own”.

To further confirm this, The Punch quoted the NYSC as saying it has communicated with the singer over his activities during his service year.

The NYSC Director of Information, Adenike Adeyemi, however, did not say what punishment had been meted out to Davido who has broken several NYSC bye-laws.

It is believed that the singer has violated many of the scheme’s regulations.

Some bye-laws violated by Davido include bringing vehicles into the orientation camp; disclosing official information; engaging in private practice; taking part in partisan politics; reporting late to duty among others.

It should be noted that the NYSC law not only prohibited participation in partisan politics but said corps members should not leave their place of primary assignments without the permission of their state coordinators.

“Any member who takes part in partisan politics is liable to extension of service for a period not less than three months without pay,” Section 9 under the Miscellaneous Offences and Penalties, read.

On Thursday, August 30, the superstar singer was among the 2,152 Batch “B”, Stream 2 corps members sworn-in at the Lagos State NYSC Orientation Camp, Ipaja and his presence surely caused pandemonium.

Barely 24 hours later, Davido left the mandatory three-week orientation exercise and travelled to Boston, USA for his tour – a deed that naturally wont go down well with the Scheme if it was an average Nigerian.

While his colleagues were struggling to cope with the various yet difficult training sessions in camp, OBO was busy thrilling fans in the United States.

He was also the star attraction during Adeleke’s rally, leaving his trail in every parts of the state, and subsequently pictured donning a PDP regalia.

As of press time, it remains to be seen if the NYSC has sanctioned the singer or not since he later deleted the comment from the post made to Smade.

Bournemouth Midfielder Lewis Cook Out For Up To Nine Months With Knee Ligament Injury

Featured Image

Bournemouth could be without England midfielder Lewis Cook for up to nine months after he suffered a serious knee injury during his side’s 2-1 Premier League win against Huddersfield Town

Bournemouth, who face high-flying Liverpool on Saturday, said scans on Wednesday revealed the 21-year-old had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

“We are all devastated for Lewis,” Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told the club website on Thursday.

” It is a huge blow to a very talented player who has been a very important part of our side over the last 18 months.”

“But Lewis is a strong character who only has to look around our dressing room for inspiration of how an injury like this is merely a setback and to know that he can come back better than ever.”

Cook, an England under-21 captain who joined Bournemouth from Leeds United in July 2016, has made 15 appearances for the club this season.

Bournemouth are seventh in the league, behind Everton and ahead of Manchester United on goal difference.

Liverpool Defender Joe Gomez Out For Up To Six Weeks With Leg Fracture

Featured Image

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will be out until the new year with a fracture of the lower left leg after crashing into the perimeter wall at Turf Moor on Wednesday.

Joe Gomez who has been a key figure in Liverpool’s defence this season, had to leave the field after just 24 minutes after being first upended by Ashley Westwood and then bundled into the advertising hoardings by a robust sliding challenge from Ben Mee.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was left raging and said referee Stuart Attwell should have given his players more protection.

“I said to ref please, tell them you cannot do that,” said Klopp. “The crowd love it, yes, but the players they are not in control. Somebody needs to tell them not to do it from six or seven yards. I think the referee has to make sure that things like this don’t happen constantly. It’s not how it should be. Let’s play football.”

Klopp’s worst fears over the injury were confirmed by a scan on Thursday morning. In a statement, the club said: “Liverpool can confirm Joe Gomez sustained a fracture to the lower left leg during the 3-1 win at Burnley on Wednesday night.
“The defender needed to be substituted after 23 minutes at Turf Moor following a challenge from which he was unable to continue.

“Gomez’s injury was further assessed by the Reds’ medical team at Melwood on Thursday.

“Initial indications suggest the 21-year-old is facing a spell of up to six weeks out of action, though this is dependent on how his treatment and rehabilitation programmes progress.”
