“And, off the pitch, one of the nicest, most humble and genuine people you’ll meet in any walk of life. Happy birthday and thank you for all your efforts during your time at Madejski Stadium, John! We wish you well in the next chapter of your career!

Lyon President Confirms Manchester United Transfer Interest In Tanguy Ndombele

Featured Image

Manchester United’s intention to sign Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has been confirmed by the club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas.

Tanguy Ndombele is expected to leave the Ligue 1 giants this summer after catching the eye in the Champions League – and comes with a price tag of around €80m.

That’s unlikely to prove prohibitive to the giants of world football, and according to Tuttosport, United have made an undisclosed bid for the all-action schemer in a bid to lure him to Old Trafford.

But while Aulas is resigned to losing his star man, he insists he would, however, rather see the player move to Italy.

“It’s true that Juventus are after Ndombele,” he told Tuttosport. “But there’s also PSG, Manchester United and City.

“I’d honestly like to see Ndombele at Juventus with [Miralem] Pjanic, a player we launched at Lyon and who I’m still very attached to.

“We’ll see what happens. I won’t talk about money. Economic parameters are the priority when selling players, but I’d like to sell him to [Juve chief] Andrea Agnelli if all the offers were the same.”

It’s claimed United want Ndombele as a replacement for Paul Pogba – a player he has been likened to – but Aulas insists the Lyon man has been superior this season.

“Paul was the leading light of a great World Cup with France but, as is normal, he paid a bit for the World Cup this season.

“Ndombele has been more decisive this season and is more complete for me.”

Reports in Spanish paper AS, meanwhile, also claim Zinedine Zidane wants Real Madrid to sign Ndombele this summer – but it’s suggested he’s only their back-up option to Pogba.

Chelsea Reluctant To Sell Ola Aina Permanently To Torino

Featured Image

Chelsea are now having second thoughts about selling right-back Ola Aina this summer and are looking to include him in their squad instead.

Aina joined Torino on a season-long loan back in August, but the Serie A club included an option to sign him for £8.7m as part of the deal.

The 22-year-old has made a big impression for Torino this term, making 29 appearances in all competitions as a right and left back, helping them climb to sixth in the table.

Torino have already decided they want to buy the Nigeria international, while Fiorentina are also interested in the Nigeria International

But according to Standard Sport Chelsea, who are still waiting to hear from FIFA on their appeal against a two-window transfer ban, don’t want to part with the talented academy graduate.

With the possibility that Chelsea aren’t able to buy players, the west London club have been closely monitoring their loan players and deciding who is good enough to get a chance.

Due to playing regularly in such a respected division, Aina has emerged as one of the main candidates

In an interview, last month, Chelsea’s loan technical coach Eddie Newton gave a big hint that Aina is part of the club’s plans.

He said: ”We’ve always known Ola has got exceptional talents – physical, technical, uses both feet, quick, powerful boy – but the question mark over his head was his concentration throughout 90 minutes. He has proved he can do that and been consistent this season.

“I’m really proud of him because he’s mentally tuned in now and I think we have to really start taking him seriously.”

Leicester City Midfielder Hamza Choudhury Apologises After Offensive Twitter Posts Resurface

Featured Image

Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury has apologised after a series of offensive historic Twitter posts came to light.

Hamza Choudhury,21, had been in the spotlight for a series of Tweets from 2013 and 2014 – when he was 15 and 16 years old – which were revealed over the weekend.

One tweet included a racial reference, another was critical of women’s football, while Choudhury also tweeted that he ‘didn’t feel sorry’ for people who committed self-harm or took their own life.

In a statement released to Press Association Sport, he said: “I’ve learned a lot as a person in my early years as a professional – certainly enough to know that some of the thoughtless comments I have made in the past are both hurtful and offensive.

“They do not represent my true beliefs. I’m deeply sorry to anyone I have offended – both at the time and since they’ve been recirculated.

“I’ve grown up a lot since then and learned a lot about life, but I accept that I have to take responsibility for the comments I have made in the past and will be a better, wiser person for it.”

A Leicester spokesman said: “Hamza’s approach to addressing the matter and the remorse he has expressed shows the maturity he has developed in the years that have passed since the comments were made.

“He now has a far greater understanding of the impact his words and behaviour can have and is committed to using that influence in the positive, respectful and accepting manner his more recent growth has demonstrated.”

The England Under-21 international will not be subject to any further disciplinary action.

Manchester United Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘Slams Anthony Martial Attitude’

Featured Image

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly turned on Anthony Martial in the dressing room following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Anthony Martial was an unused sub at the weekend after recently struggling with a minor back injury.

According to the Daily Mail, Martial caused anger among United’s backroom staff for his attitude before the match kicked off.

He was leisurely strolling around Old Trafford before kick-off with his hands behind his back and barely breaking a sweat. No wonder Solskjaer opted for Alexis Sanchez in the second-half.

Solskjaer is said to have vented his anger at the 23-year-old in front of the other players in the dressing room, accusing him of lacking effort.

The report indicates that there have been concerns over the ex-Monaco ace’s attitude ever since he signed a long-term deal in January.

The FWA confirmed in a post on their official website that Sterling had received 62% of the votes, picking up 100 votes more than Van Dijk, who came in second. City teammate Sergio Aguero finished third.

Harry Kane, Eden Hazard, Bernardo Silva, David Silva and (surprisingly) Alexandre Lacazette all received votes for the award, but Sterling was the runaway winner by far.

It has been an astonishing campaign for the 24-year-old, who has been inspirational to City’s attempt to retain their Premier League title.

He has racked up 17 goals and 12 assists in his 32 league appearances, firing City to the top of the league table ahead of Van Dijk and Liverpool. No player has contributed to more goals in the league this year than Sterling, whose total of 29 is level with Chelsea star Hazard.

Nikita Parris Wins FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year Award Beating Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema By Just One Vote

Manchester City striker Nikita Parris has been named Football Writers Association Women’s Footballer of the Year, beating Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema by just a vote

Vivianne Miedema had already won the PFA Player’s Player of the Year award, as voted for by her peers, but Parris scooped the FWA prize by a single vote after an 11-10 split in the ‘expert panel’.

The voting was a two-stage process and Beth Mead, Danielle van der Donk, Leah Williamson (all Arsenal), Magdalena Eriksson, Erin Cuthbert, Karen Carney, Fran Kirby (all Chelsea), Georgia Stanway (Man City), Lucy Bronze (Lyon) and Toni Duggan (Barcelona) all received votes at the first stage.

Parris had enjoyed a fine individual season, scoring 19 Women’s Super League goals as her club battled Arsenal – who finally secured the trophy on Sunday – in a thrilling title race.

Her tally broke the previous record for goals in a single WSL season, with only Miedema (22), managing more goals this season and setting an even higher standard.

Nikita Parris, who could yet finish the campaign with an FA Cup winner’s medal, has also become a crucial player for England ahead of this summer’s World Cup in France and has already tasted some international glory in 2019 after the recent SheBelieves Cup triumph.

The 25-year-old is only the second player to win the FWA Women’s award after Chelsea star Fran Kirby landed the inaugural prize this time last year.
