“Believe It Or Not, EFCC Just Made Naira Marley And Zlatan Future Legends” – Ayo Shonaiya

Featured Image

Nigerian filmmaker, lawyer and entertainment consultant, Ayo Shonaiya has waded in on the ongoing Yahoo boy saga which has landed two rappers, Naira Marley and Zlatan in EFCC’s net in connection with an alleged case of internet fraud and money laundering.

According to Shonaiya,

‘when I saw the picture posted today by EFCC about the “arrest” of Naira Marley, Zlatan Ibile and other persons, I had mixed emotions. On one hand, I liked it because this is “that picture”. Just like world famous celebrities who have at some point in their lives (often during their youth) run afoul of the Law, and their mugshots become famous, even to the point of people printing it on T-shirts’.

See the rest of his post below,

Lil’ Wayne, James Brown, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Frank Sinatra, the Kray Twins, Hugh Grant, and of course notorious drug lord & the ultimate baddest outlaw, Pablo Escobar! Remember Pablo Escobar used drug money to “help” the Colombian economy? And loads of Colombians prayed for him. You know in the Nigerian music industry we have Bad, Baddo, Baddest, & Young Pablo. I myself even appeared in a short film recently called “Narcos Lagos”!

It’s all creativity and Art. Believe it or not, they have just made Naira Marley & Zlatan future legends!!! And I promise you I love all these guys. The ones that know me personally know this. Bad ass creative minds!

But, on the other hand, the infamous mugshots of the other “legends” were for what I call “personal” crimes. Even though every crime is bad, they were not crimes that labelled their countrymen & women with a negative identity, & also didn’t adversely affect the reputations of millions of their fellow citizens (maybe Colombia with the drugs, but you get my point).

The crime in question in the EFCC pic is FRAUD! Let’s stop saying “Yahoo Yahoo” because it has obviously become cool to a lot of youths now. We desperately need to re-strategise the war against crime in our country, from the “top” to the bottom.

So, while the other mugshots are for personal crimes that only themselves got punished for, our own future legends pic is about glamourising a crime that 180 MILLION Nigerians pay for everyday, in all ramifications & all over the world, as we are ALL seen as fraudsters and thieves.

This is the painful difference between the other infamous pictures & our own. And this is why, on the real, I am also sad about this picture.

We Have To Be More Precise, Be Better – Pep Guardiola

Featured Image

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola wants his side to embrace the “privilege” of being in pole position to retain the Premier League title when they travel to Brighton on Sunday.

City go into the final day of the season one point ahead of Liverpool after a title race that has raised the bar from anything the Premier League has seen before.

Liverpool’s long wait to win the title could unbelievably stretch into its 30th year despite posting the third highest points tally in Premier League history.

With victory on England’s south coast on Sunday, City will hit 98 points, two less than their record-breaking campaign last season, but arguably even more impressive having come from seven points behind in January and refusing to budge in a 13-game winning run as the finishing line approaches.

“It’s a privilege,” said Guardiola on Friday. “Is a dream to be here, honestly I didn’t expect months ago when we were seven points (behind) against this Liverpool to be in the position that we are now.

“We have the chance to become champion if we win our game and that is what we have to do.”

The scale of the achievement in holding off Jurgen Klopp’s charging Reds was amplified when Guardiola saw his old side Barcelona thrashed 4-0 at Anfield on Tuesday as Liverpool reached a second consecutive Champions League final.

City could make history by becoming the first side to ever win the English domestic treble as long as they match Liverpool’s result at home to Wolves this weekend and defeat Watford in the FA Cup final next Saturday.

But despite all they have achieved this season to this point, Guardiola believes City must finish the job if they are to avoid being “destroyed” by their critics.

“We saw in the Champions League. (Barcelona and Ajax) lost once but everybody destroyed the teams, destroyed the managers, destroyed the clubs,” added Guardiola.

– ‘You have to win’ –

“Doing incredible, doing well, we know in which world we live and you have to win.”

City have racked up 157 goals in all competitions this season, but have had to grind it out in recent weeks, winning three of their last four games 1-0.

A wonder strike from captain Vincent Kompany, his first goal from outside the box in 12 years, was needed to see off Leicester 1-0 on Monday, while Sergio Aguero’s winner at Burnley the week before crossed the line by 30 millimetres.

Brighton’s survival in the Premier League was guaranteed by Cardiff’s relegation last weekend and the Seagulls showed they have not switched off for their summer holidays by holding Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates a day later.

“In one game anything can happen. One mistake from our side, one incredible performance from the other side, one mistake from the referees can decide the title,” warned Guardiola.

“That’s why we have to be more precise, be better and try to win the game.”

City could be boosted by the return of Kevin de Bruyne from injury, but fellow midfielder Fernandinho misses out.

Egypt’s Mo Salah Wins Two Liverpool Awards

Featured Image

Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah has been named Liverpool’s Standard Chartered Player of the Month for April 2019.

The forward was in outstanding form across the English giants’ six games in the period, scoring five times – including the club’s Goal of the Month winner with a thunderous drive against Chelsea.

Salah had previously helped Jürgen Klopp’s side beat Southampton away from home with a clinical counter-attack strike and, later in the month, notched once at FC Porto and twice in the home rout of Huddersfield Town.

The Egypt international saw off competition from fellow forward Sadio Mane and the captain, Jordan Henderson, to take the prize – voted by fans – for the third time this season.

“It was a great month for us; there were important games and we won them [all]. I’m very happy about that,” Salah said.

“Now it’s the last game of the season and we’re in the final of the Champions League, which is something great. That’s the most important thing.”

Salah revealed the long-range screamer past Chelsea, in a vital Premier League win at Anfield, ranks among the finest efforts of any month in his career so far.

“That was one of my favourite goals ever,” he added. “It was a great goal for me and helped the team to win the game, which is something great.”

Facebook Co-Founder Says Zuckerberg’s ‘Power Is Unprecedented and Un-American,’ Wants Company Broken Up

Featured Image

Shortly after Chris Hughes called for Facebook to be broken up, the social networking giant rejected his argument with the following statement:

“Facebook accepts that with success comes accountability,” Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice president of global affairs and communication, wrote to the New York Times. “But you don’t enforce accountability by calling for the breakup of a successful American company.”

Facebook, an objectively terrible place to spend one’s time or gather one’s daily intel, is now being openly criticized for unchecked power by one of the goobs responsible for its very existence.

Chris Hughes, noted Harvard roommate and Facebook co-founder, penned a lengthy piece for The New York Times Thursday in which he looked back on the site’s beginnings and urged governmental intervention. “It’s been 15 years since I co-founded Facebook at Harvard, and I haven’t worked at the company in a decade,” Hughes said. “But I feel a sense of anger and responsibility.”

While Hughes goes out of his way to characterize Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg as a “good, kind person,” he’s critical of the goat-eater’s decision to pursue clicks-based expansion at the cost of “security and civility.” An impending FTC fine, Hughes argued, isn’t enough to curb the monopoly-like growth. “Mark’s power is unprecedented and un-American,” he said Thursday. “It is time to break up Facebook.”

From there, Hughes centers his criticism in the simultaneous American traditions of checks and balances and well-crafted cynicism toward the abilities of government. “The F.T.C.’s biggest mistake was to allow Facebook to acquire Instagram and WhatsApp,” Hughes said, proposing that the government step in by breaking up the company and slapping them with more regulations.

Sadly, Hughes does not go on to offer an alternative online gathering place for everyone’s grandparents and that one guy at work who keeps begging you to like his noise band’s Facebook page. Read Hughes’ full plea for intervention here.

Anyway, the following video definitely does not include any footage whatsoever of a robot mimicking human humor with minimal success.

Nipsey Hussle’s Brother Wants To Be In Charge Of Rapper’s $2 Million Estate

Featured Image

Samiel Asghedom, also known as Blacc Sam, filed paperwork in support of his sister getting guardianship of Nipsey Hussle’s 10-year-old daughter, Emani. New reports from The Blast now detail that Samiel has filed more paperwork, this time looking to be in charge of his late brother’s estate.

According to the publication, Nipsey passed without a will and his reported $2 million estate needs to be properly handled as soon as possible. Samiel’s documents read that Nipsey’s “passing has created significant media attention, which, in turn has presented potential time-sensitive business opportunities based on [Nipsey Hussle]’s likeness, right of publicity, and other intellectual property based on the media attention surrounding [Nipsey Hussle]’s exceptional life story and musical career.”

A judge has not yet ruled on whether Samiel will be the new administrator for Nipsey’s estate but considering the close ties he had with his brother’s business deals, it would make all the sense.

“He was a brother, a musician, an entrepreneur, a people’s champ,” Samiel previously stated of his brother. “He was somebody that believed in the process of hard work, determination and just the positivity of somebody staying in the area that he grew up in and making something out of nothing…he was a role model to the community, to the kids, and to the mothers and the grandmothers and the community that watched him grow up and seen him as a youngster, (and now) a family man, a father, raising his kids.”

Lille Seal Champions League Qualification, Brest Join Metz In Ligue 1

Featured Image

Lille’s place in the Champions League qualifying rounds has been confirmed following Saint-Etienne’s defeat to Montpellier, while Brest have joined Metz in being promoted to Ligue 1.

Christophe Galtier’s Lille sit second in the top flight on 69 points with three games remaining but, thanks to Montpellier’s 1-0 win at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Friday, their place in the top three is now secured.

With only Lyon capable of catching them, Lille – Ligue 1 champions in 2010-11 – are guaranteed a spot at least in the Champions League qualifiers, a remarkable turnaround in fortunes following their 17th-place finish in Ligue 1 last term.

Key to Lille’s successful season has been the form of Nicolas Pepe, who has scored 20 goals in 35 Ligue 1 appearances.

Heading into Ligue 1 for next season are Brest, who beat Niort 3-0 on Friday to move four points clear of third-place Troyes in Ligue 2 with just one game left. They join Ligue 2 champions Metz in securing promotion.

It is not yet decided which two teams will be automatically relegated from Ligue 1, with Guingamp and Dijon occupying the drop zone, though both remain in with a chance of survival.

Long-Serving Jason Puncheon To Leave Crystal Palace

Featured Image

Jason Puncheon will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season, the Premier League club have confirmed.

Puncheon initially joined Palace on loan from Southampton in 2013 and made the move permanent in January 2014.

Having made just five league appearances for Palace this season, the 32-year-old joined Huddersfield Town on loan in January but played only six times as the Terriers’ stay in the top flight came to an end.

And Palace have now announced that Puncheon will not be offered a new contract to remain at Selhurst Park.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to have represented my hometown club and I leave with memories that will stay with me forever,” Puncheon told the club’s official website.

“To have had the honour of captaining the club, my club, the club I supported as a boy, will always remain with me as one of my proudest achievements. I’ve loved every minute of my time at Palace and would like to wish everyone at the club, and our amazing fans, all of the very best for the future.”

Puncheon scored 16 goals for Palace in total, making 171 appearances across all competitions.

UEFA Defends Ticket Allocation For Europa League Final

Featured Image

UEFA has defended its decision to allocate only 6,000 tickets respectively to Chelsea and Arsenal for the Europa League final in Baku.

Arsenal’s 7-3 aggregate win over Valencia and Chelsea’s penalty shoot-out victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday set up an all-English encounter in Azerbaijan on May 29.

It is the first time the Premier League has had four representatives in both finals of Europe’s top club tournaments, with Liverpool and Tottenham facing off for Champions League glory in Madrid on June 1.

However, fans of both Arsenal and Chelsea were left disappointed by an allocation of 6,000 tickets for each club, despite the Olympic Stadium in the Azeri capital having a capacity of close to 70,000.

UEFA, though, insists its ticketing policy is “responsible”.

“Based on UEFA’s recent experience with UEFA Europa League finals and the UEFA Super Cup in comparable venues the number of finalists’ supporters requesting tickets for a UEFA Europa League final can vary greatly from club to club,” a UEFA statement read.

“Of course, it is impossible to predict in advance which clubs will reach the final while the venue has to be chosen around two years in advance.

“Taking into consideration the above and most importantly the geographical location and logistical capacity of airports in and around the host city, it was deemed that around 15,000 spectators would be able to travel from abroad, with Baku as the main hub.

“Offering more tickets to fans of the participating teams, without any guarantee that they would be able to arrange suitable travel to reach Baku, was therefore not a responsible option.

“Based on these circumstances, for this year’s UEFA Europa League final in Baku, 6,000 tickets have been made available to each of the finalists.”

Arsenal stated on Thursday that they remained in discussions with UEFA over adding to their allocation, although an increase would appear unlikely.

David Luiz Signs Chelsea Extension

Featured Image

David Luiz ended speculation surrounding his Chelsea future by signing a new deal with the club.

The club announced on Friday that the defender had extended his contract with Chelsea and will be under contract through the 2020-21 campaign.

Luis has made 48 appearances across all competitions this campaign while scoring three goals as he’s become one of Maurizio Sarri’s go-to players after falling down the depth chart under previous manager Antonio Conte.

The Brazilian has also guided Chelsea to the Europa League final, where the club will face Arsenal after dispatching Eintracht Frankfurt in penalties in the semi-final round.

“I am so happy to be here and to have this opportunity to stay. I love this club and I still have the ambition of a young player,” Luiz said in a statement.

“It means a lot to reach another European final, and we still have the opportunity to finish in the top three of the Premier League this season and I will continue to try to do my best to help the team.”

Luiz has made 35 league appearances this campaign, his most since originally joining the club in 2011 and since rejoining in 2016 following a two-year stint with Paris Saint-Germain.

Across his Chelsea career, Luiz has made a total 246 appearances, scoring 18 goals while winning a Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League trophy.

“We are delighted David Luiz will be staying with the club,” said Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia in a statement.
“He has set the perfect example to those around him throughout the campaign and been a huge influence on and off the pitch.

“With the Europa League final still to come, we hope to finish off the season with silverware and David will be central to that success in Baku and beyond.”

Chelsea are set to face Leicester on Sunday in the final match of the Premier League season.

Following a friendly against the New England Revolution on Wednesday, Chelsea will turn focus towards Arsenal and the May 29 Europa League final in Baku.

Kelechi Iheanacho Still Part Of My Plans – Brendan Rodgers

Featured Image

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers remains satisfied with Kelechi Iheanacho’s input and would consequently retain him in his squad for the coming season.

Iheanacho has not been spared by fans this season for his performance which came again to the fore last Monday when he missed a golden opportunity to level scores for the foxes against Manchester City in a premier league match.

He was even publicly criticised by Rodgers in his post-match interview.

“He’s just had his first season adapting to a new club. Then when you’re playing or challenging one of the best strikers in the league, it’s difficult.

“Kel will come back into pre-season, have a really good pre-season, gain more confidence, work hard and hopefully come out of that with a renewed motivation to show his qualities,” he told Leicester Mercury.

Iheanacho has struggled to make an impact this season scoring twice in 35 matches in all competitions.

Under Rodgers who took over from Claude Puel, midway to the season, Iheanacho has only made six substitute appearances.

“I’ve been impressed with him,” he continued.

“His appetite, his work, and then in games, where he has come on, whether it’s for five minutes or for 15 minutes, he’s impacted the game and done very well, and he nearly did again, it’s just unfortunate.

“He knows he should score, in big games you don’t get many chances and he has the quality, but it just didn’t happen for him.

“He’s a fantastic young player and hopefully he can show that over his time at Leicester,” he concluded.
