“Buffon Deserves Ballon d’Or More Than Ronaldo”

Featured Image

Fabrizio Ravanelli says Gianluigi Buffon deserves to win the Ballon d’Or more than Ronaldo and believes Dybala is a future winner.

The dybate on who would win the prestigious individual award has begun, with regular contenders, Messi and Ronaldo in the mix.

Buffon has been tipped by a couple of players and pundits to win the award, for his exploits with Juventus. He helped them win a sixth straight Scudetto, the Coppa Italia and Juve are on the brink of completing a treble, if they beat Real Madrid in the UCL final.

The former Juve striker told AS: “Dybala has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or in the future.

“He’s extraordinary but Buffon is the one who deserves the award the most this season. Much more than Ronaldo.

“Gigi has had an amazing season despite his age. Cristiano is a great player but he has already won so many Ballon d’Ors.”

Conte Says Moses Was Tired And Did Not Intend To Dive

Featured Image

Chelsea gaffer Antonio Conte believes the only reason Victor Moses went to the ground, was because he was tired not because he wanted to dive.

The winger was sent off after receiving his second yellow for the simulation, with his first coming from a tackle on Welbeck.

Even so, Conte would not judge Moses and believes he only crashed to the floor because he was fatigued.

“Honestly, I did not see the situation. I do not know for sure, but there is a lot of attention on this moment. Sometimes I think it could be tiredness,” Conte said.

“We are at the end of the season and a lot of players are tired and then there is a lot of pressure. For sure, it is not a good situation to dive, it is true.

“But Moses is an honest player and, if there was this situation, he was tired and he did not want to cheat the referee.”

Chelsea eventually ended up losing the final 2-1, with Aaron Ramsey netting the winner with 11 minutes left on the clock.

Chiellini: Juventus Has Gotten Better Since The 2015 UCL Loss

Featured Image

Giorgio Chiellini is of the mind that Juventus has improved since their UCL final loss two years ago, but is wary of how good Madrid is.

Juventus lost 3-1 to Barcelona back in 2015 at Berlin, with Chiellini missing the match due to injury.

And the veteran defender fancies their chances of winning the European showpiece, despite the class Madrid has.

“Our start to the match will be crucial,” Chiellini told a news conference. “We have to be organised – that’s essential in a one-off game and it gives you the best chance of reading the play.

“We meet a team that have won this trophy twice in the last three years. They’re even more dangerous, because just when you think you’ve got the game by the scruff of the neck, they strike.

“We feel we’ve improved in the last two years and the squad has got better, but the key to everything will be our willingness to go the extra yard.

“In a Champions League final you have to do your basics well but also be able to go above and beyond.”

Chiellini thinks Juve have learnt from the 2015 defeat, where he attributed their disappointing display to a nervy first half.

“We’ll use our experience from Berlin two years ago in the build-up to this final,” he said. “This is our second final in three years and that definitely means something.

“We’ll stay calm this week. We were too tense at the start of the 2015 final and we conceded in the first half. Even when we got back into the match they responded because we were too exposed defensively.

“We don’t want to make the same mistakes twice, though I tend to take the positives from past experiences, even unhappy ones.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain: I Never Feared Penalty After Moses Went Down

Featured Image

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed he never feared he had committed a foul and given away a penalty when Victor Moses went down in the box during the FA Cup final.

Moses was shown a second yellow card and given his marching orders, after diving in the box as he attempted to break away from the English player.

Despite calls for a penalty, Oxlade-Chamberlain was certain he had pulled out of the challenge early enough to avoid a foul.

“I didn’t fear the worst, not at all,” he told Arsenal’s website.

“I think obviously when he went inside there was a moment when I sort of went to go for the ball, and then I thought he might just be a little bit ahead of me so I decided to pull out and not go for it.

“So as soon as Moses went down I was fully confident that I was nowhere near him and that the referee should have seen that so my heart didn’t really go in my mouth.

“I didn’t realise he was on a yellow so when [the sending off] happened that was more of a surprise for me.

“But I knew I didn’t go anywhere near him and obviously it helped us to victory in the end.”

Bartra Feared He Would Not Play Again After Bus Attack

Featured Image

Marc Bartra has revealed he feared for his career after the bomb attack on the team bus, that delayed their UCL match against Monaco.

The defender was the only player injured in the explosion that wrecked the bus and had to had surgery on his right wrist.

However, Bartra returned to action against Werder Bremen and he stated he thought the incident would force him into early retirement.

“When the attack happened, I thought I would never be able to play again,” Bartra told Kicker after Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal final win against Eintracht Frankfurt.

“I could not move in the first five or 10 minutes and I could not hear anything.

“When the doctor told me after the surgery that everything was going well and I was going to be able to play again in a month, that was indescribable and the most beautiful news.

“I feel stronger today than ever before. I was very sad that such a thing could happen – it was a few damn difficult weeks – but now we can all enjoy this victory.”

NYSC To Start Posting Corps Members To Farms For Primary Assignment

Featured Image

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that it would soon commence the posting of corps members to farms as Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).

The Director General, NYSC, Suleiman Kazaure, said this on Monday in an interview with journalists during his official visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Sagamu, Ogun State.

How To Get A Medical Report For NYSC Orientation Camp | Compulsory For All PCMs

He said that the move to deploy corps members in farms was in line with the agricultural development programme of the NYSC.

According to him, the NYSC has concluded preparations to begin the posting at the conclusion of the three-week orientation exercise.

Dear PCMs, Here Is How To Obtain NYSC Certificate Of Exemption

He said that Bauchi, Oyo, Kebbi and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, had been earmarked for the pilot phase.

“It should interest you to know that the NYSC will soon begin its agricultural development scheme where corps members will be posted to farms for their primary assignments.

“Already the NYSC has acquired active farmlands across the nation’s geopolitical zones with four already fully operational in Kwali, Bauchi, Oyo and Kebbi.

“After this orientation programme for the Batch ‘A’ corps members, we will begin posting some of them to these farms as a pilot phase.

“Though we are starting with four states for now, we will integrate the other states as time goes, the project is ongoing,” Mr. Kazaure said.

The NYSC boss had tasked the corps members not to seek white-collar jobs which were non-existent but rather develop their potentials for entrepreneurship excellence.

#DemocracyDay: Akpabio Mocks APC | ‘’If It Is Not Panadol, It Can’t Be The Same As Panadol”

Featured Image

The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has mocked the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government, saying that it has failed to deliver on the basic needs of Nigerians in the last two years.

While blaming the ruling party’s alleged failure on the “lack of experience and technical-know-how to administer the country,” the two-term governor of Akwa Ibom State said, ‘’If it is not Panadol, it can’t be the same as Panadol.”

“I believed that if it were PDP–between 2015 and 2017, we would have made more significant progress,” he added, while speaking in an exclusive interview today with THISDAY in Abuja.

He said rather than focus on how to fulfil its campaign promises to the Nigerian people, the ruling party spent two years blaming PDP for its failure to perform.

He said: “A lot of plans have been outlined but, not much has actually been seen in terms of progress and delivering of campaign promises; most of the campaign promises have actually not been met.”

“But from a politician’s point of views, I am just imagining that probably, we could have handled the recession better, if it were PDP and that is how I looked at it.”

Speaking on why the ruling party failed to fulfil its campaign promises, the PDP chieftain accused the government of lacking focus and experience; and it kept blaming the so-called mess created and left behind by the PDP for its inability to perform.

‘’But they can’t say that; before you go into government you must do a critical analysis of what you intend to do. You can’t go and promise free education when you are not sure of whether you are ready’’, Senator Akpabio added.

‘’Before you make promises to the people you must have done not just the detailed analysis of the economic situation of the government, but a review of the economic policies of the government. So, if they say they underestimated the mess created or left behind by the PDP that means they, on their own part, were not prepared for governance.’’

Review: Moving Forward EP Vol 1 – Sean Tizzle

Featured Image

The debut disc of Sean Tizzle, The Journey is one of those rare finds, a first timer’s pop record that played like a hits factory but managed to secure serious critical acclaim due to the quality of the recordings. His dynamic union with D’Tunes sizzled with intensity and managed to sidestep some of the usual missteps of the first album (Excess length, indiscipline, too many fillers).

The relationship with D’Tunes did not survive the red hot superstardom that followed, and went the way of Sean Tizzle’s earlier flirtation with Sound Sultan. He has struggled since then to connect to the zeitgeist as easily as he used to.

Replacing D’Tunes is Blaq Jerzee who produced all but one of the seven tracks that make up the EP. The outlier, Roll Up (ft. Iceberg Slim) produced by Mr Kamera has Tizzle adopting that coarse croak that has worked out so well, vocal wise for Davido on a mid-tempo beat that rides and falls with the rhythms of its instrumentation. Speaking of, Davido stops by for an uninspired, if pleasant objectification of the female anatomy titled, Dide.

The opener, Thank You is exactly what you would expect from the title and returns all gratitude to the creator for successes recorded so far. Blaq Jerzee seems to have been influenced by Tizzle’s earlier work and dices a busy recording that incorporates Tizzle’s fine vocal work into a pot that updates old school highlife with pleasant sounding live instrumentation powered by drums, and strings that can interest today’s youth.

Arawa Ni recalls those heady earlier days when Tizzle was prince of the block and instantly heads for the dance floor amidst a throbbing mix of drums, flutes and percussion notes. It is awesome stuff that solidifies Tizzles strong suits and charts a course for his ultimate future as an artiste, when the pop charts have no more use for his style of music.

Sean Tizzle is famous for quitting Twitter after a series of ignorant tweets landed him in hot water. He seems to have learnt his lesson and sticks to the telephone to pass his message of infatuation to his lover on the reggae tinged, Telephone Man.

Latin Lover with its Afro-Caribbean leaning is a dud that is more striking considering the brevity and limited time span of this record. Thankfully Alhaji Abass closes the entire affair and brings to the fore once again, what is becoming the go-to Sean Tizzle sound.

There is still work to be done on the song writing level and Mr Tizzle definitely needs to be inspired beyond trite like, You carry pass Nicki Minaj. Kiss Daniel and DJ Coublon may have taken the acute skill of recording live instrumentation to the next level, but if there is any artiste that proved such a formula was workable, it is Sean Tizzle.

Indeed that is ultimately what saves the EP from instantly forgettable status but Sean Tizzle needs to develop a persona and character that can back up his production efforts. Lest he be stuck in reverse.

Nigeria Threatens To Shut Land Borders If Rice Smuggling Continues

Featured Image

The Federal Government has threatened to shut down some land borders if the smuggling of rice continues from neighbouring countries.

This declaration was made by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, on Monday in Abuja, while speaking to newsmen on some of the Federal Government’s achievements in the agriculture sector in the last two years.

Ogbeh said the decision became necessary to encourage local rice farmers and to enable the country achieve self-sufficiency in rice by 2018.

He said: “We believe they are determined to sabotage the efforts that we are making to guarantee self sufficiency in rice and to save foreign exchange which we don’t have.”

“They insist on bringing in rice through the land borders, avoiding the duties and the levies we put on them and they are definitely bent on sabotaging our efforts and we are getting increasingly unhappy with them.”

“And I must say that very soon, if they persist, we will take very nasty measures against them.”

“We will like to advise our neighbours who believe that the ECOWAS Treaty means that Nigeria is a volunteer nation for economic suicide.”

“We have no such plans — destroying our own economy to make any neighbour happy.”

“The ECOWAS Treaty number two does not suggest that any country can be an avenue of smuggling foreign goods not produced in that country for dumping in his neighbour’s territory.”

“If they insist, I do not think that government is far away from considering permanently closing certain borders very near us and when we do, nothing will make us change our minds on the issue, ECOWAS Treaty or not.’’

Inter Milan Confirm Manchester United Interest In Signing Ivan Perisic

Featured Image

Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has confirmed that Man Utd are interested in Ivan Perisic.

Ivan Perisic, 28, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, with Sky Sports claiming United are in talks with Inter over signing the Croatia international.

“[United] haven’t made us an official offer for Perisic but their interest is there,” he told Premier Sport. “We want to improve Inter and this is why we do not have any sellable or un-sellable players as of now.

“We know that we already have many important players within our roster like Perisic and before we decide to sell him, we have to think about what’s best for Inter.

“For me we have an as good squad or maybe even a better squad than most of the teams who finished ahead of us. We don’t need all that much, we will certainly make some moves but we will first have to see what our new coach will want.”

Roma Manger Luciano Spalletti Relaxed About His Future

Featured Image

Roma Head coach Luciano Spalletti is relaxed about his future at Roma despite facing a fan backlash over his treatment of departing club great Francesco Totti.

The head coach faced a chorus of boos when his name was read out before Totti’s last match in a Roma shirt, Sunday’s 3-2 Serie A victory over Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico.

Spalletti left 40-year-old Totti out of his first team for most of the season as a younger forward line plundered the best part of the 90 goals that secured an impressive second-placed finish for Roma.

Inter Milan are reportedly keen to offer Spalletti a new challenge at the San Siro but the former Zenit St Petersburg boss is still weighing up his options in the Eternal City.

Spalletti told Gazzetta dello Sport: “When you train a team like Roma you have to always be focused on securing victories.

“Sometimes second place is not acceptable, but I think this has been a great achievement.

“I am going to have an end-of-season meeting with the board and after we’ve talked I’ll make my position clear. We will do it as soon as possible, because it’s right that you all know what’s happening.”

Gianluigi Donnarumma Must Decide On His Future, Says AC Milan CEO Marco Fassone

Featured Image

AC Milan CEO Marco Fassone says the club must come up with a “plan B” in case Gianluigi Donnarumma leaves as he continues to be linked with a move elsewhere.

Marco  Fassone does not want the issue to drag on all summer, though, and he has told the 18-year-old goalkeeper, who has been linked with some of Europe’s top clubs, that he must make up his mind quickly.

“Donnarumma is a cornerstone, a pillar, a foundation for next season and we told him this the first time we met for talks,” Fassone told Mediaset. “We’ve been telling him that now for 45 days. I can see in his eyes that light, that willingness to stay and do great things with this Milan, but what we cannot do is wait.

“We need to give [coach Vincenzo] Montella his squad for next season on July 3. Our time is more pressing than [Donnarumma’s agent Mino] Raiola’s. We need to know if we have a goalkeeper, if we don’t have him or if we have him with his contract expiring. There hasn’t been any meeting yet.

“As you can easily imagine, no club would leave a goalkeeper like Donnarumma in the stands, but we cannot have a goalkeeper at Milan whose contract is expiring. But I’m confident. We need to have a plan B in case things don’t go the way we hope, but I am convinced that our offer and our plans for him are good. If the answer were still to be negative, then we would have to accept it and activate plan B.”

Fassone also said that the club intend to build their future around coach Montella.

“Things are working really well with Vincenzo,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “He’s a great technician on the field. He’s our coach and certainly he’ll be our coach next year. I’m convinced he will be the coach who leads us to the top again.”

John Terry Hoping To Become A ‘Top-Level’ Football Manager

Featured Image

Chelsea legend John Terry says he has not yet decided whether he will retire from playing this summer, but says his long-term aim is to become a top-level manager.

“Hopefully one day I’ll be back here [at Wembley] as a manager, that’s kind of the ambition. It has been difficult for me actually as a player because I’ve been looking to do coaching for the last year,” he said after Saturday’s FA Cup final loss to Arsenal.

“But, if I do stop or if I do carry on playing, I will press on in that [coaching] regardless. I do want to be a manager.

“I think I’ve got too much to give and I’ve learned too much not to pass that on, whether that’s initially to a younger generation or eventually at this level. Listen, this is the target – being here, managing a top side.”

John Terry was an unused substitute in Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal at Wembley.

He has made 717 appearances for Chelsea and is a five-time Premier League title winner with the London club.

He has also won the Champions League and Europa League, as well as five FA Cups and three League Cups.

Arsene Wenger Believes He Deserves A New Contract After FA Cup Win

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger says Saturday’s FA Cup final win over Chelsea proves that he is worthy of a new contract at Arsenal.

Asked if he would be preparing a presentation ahead of a board meeting on Tuesday, Wenger said: “The best presentation is to watch the game [against Chelsea].

“I’ve played until the end of my contract, which is today basically. I think I have shown you that I have exactly the same commitment.”

“For me, the contract does not have special meaning but, because of the debate, maybe I should have sorted that out earlier.”

And Arsene Wenger says he drilled into his players that succeeding against Chelsea was more important than what his own future holds.

“I just told them to focus on what is important, our future, the future of the club, whether I stay or not,” he added.

“The players play for their future, for their next season.

“I love my job and I love to win. I love to build, I love to get people going and I love what I do.

“I invite you to live with me one day and one thing you cannot question is my commitment.”

Wenger criticised those fans who had called for his exit during matches in the latter part of the season, but said he does not have to hold it against them in the long run.

“I am a forgiving man,” he said. “You cannot be in this job (if you are not forgiving).

“This job is basically trusting human beings. If you cannot forgive, you cannot trust.

“The only bit of advice I have for young coaches – if you have a tendency to be paranoid, don’t do this job.

“I meet many Arsenal fans who are absolutely fantastic. It was maybe one per cent. Ninety-nine per cent of our fans are absolutely fantastic. We play for the 99.9 per cent.

“That’s why I said it’s not about popularity, it’s about consequence.

“It’s the board who has to decide who will lead the club in the future. It’s for me afterwards to decide, if they want me, whether it’s yes or no.”

Gerard Deulofeu Thanks AC Milan For ‘Amazing’ Loan Period As He Ponders Barcelona Return

Featured Image

Although rumours continue that Gerard Deulofeu will move to AC Milan permanently after a loan spell from Everton, he has taken to Instagram to thank the Serie A club after the season ended over the weekend.

He says: “The season is over. I have only thankful words for AC Milan. I was happy and I got the support and love of both my colleagues and my fans. Thank you for your heart.”

Barcelona have an option to re-sign Gerard Deulofeu for 12 million euros and Robert Fernandez has already said the club are keen on paying the clause to bring him back from Everton.

But as with all transfers, there are three parties involved: Barça, Everton and Deulofeu. The Blaugrana can’t complete a deal until there is an agreement with the player.

In other circumstances, Deulofeu would have no doubts and his desire to success at Camp Nou is huge. He joined the club as a nine-year-old and was tipped as one of the biggest stars in La Masia.

But Gerard, 23, doesn’t want to bore himself on the bench and is aware that to have minutes in a team which features Neymar, Suarez and Messi may be complicated.

Ernesto Valverde Set To Replace Luis Enrique As Barcelona Manager

Featured Image

Barcelona are set to name their new coach on Monday evening, with Ernesto Valverde widely expected to take charge.

President Josep Maria Bartomeu said last week the club would announce Luis Enrique’s successor on May 29, and the Catalan giants have called a press conference for 1900 local time.

The club have not announced what the conference, held by Bartomeu, will include, but it takes place following a board meeting and should see the Catalan giants’ new coach unveiled.

Valverde has been the reported front-runner for the job for some time and he last week stepped down as Athletic Bilbao boss.

The 53-year-old is a former Barca player, helping the club win the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup (1989) and Copa del Rey (1990) during two years at the Nou Camp under Johan Cruyff, while a 15-year coaching career has included spells at Espanyol, Olympiacos, Villarreal and Valencia.

I Thought About Moving On From Bayern Munich- Kingsley Coman

Featured Image

Kingsley Coman has admitted that he considered leaving Bayern Munich after a difficult season under Carlo Ancelotti, although he is expected to join the club permanently after a two year loan spell from Juventus.

“It was a complicated year for me. I thought about leaving Bayern,” he told German publication Kicker.

“It is very difficult to win a place in the team and get regular first-team action once the coach has found his starting eleven, in particular here at Bayern due to the stiff competition for places.

“But Bayern gave me the feeling they count on me on the long term, including next season. They told me to keep working hard and then things will work out.

With Ribery, 34, and Arjen Robben, 33, both approaching the twilight of their careers, Coman is seen as a natural successor to one of the two wingers with Douglas Costa also likely to become a key player in years to come.

Before agreeing to sign permanently until 2020, Coman said he had sought assurances from Bayern’s board about his future at the club.

“They gave me the feeling they have faith in me, both long-term and next season too. They said I should keep working hard and things would sort themselves out,” he said.

#DemocracyDay: Dear President Buhari, You Have Broken Our Hearts, By Chude Jideonwo

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

Two years ago to this day, you brought me to tears.

You were in our nation’s capital, being inaugurated as the first Nigerian in our nation’s history to win the presidency from an opposition party. I was far away, in Lagos; but I had a cherished privilege: to be the one to publish the very first tweet on your account as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This article was written by Chude Jideonwo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

And as my colleague, Oluwatobi Soyombo watched, I threw my head back on the chair, and I began to weep.

I couldn’t help myself. This moment was too big, was too strong; was too much.

They were tears of joy. But they were also tears of relief, personal and collective. Personal relief from the fear of the consequences of my decision – after having readied myself for four years of repercussion for supporting so publicly a man who was hardly likely to win; collective relief that we would not be facing four more years of the triumphal leadership of the corrupt and the reprobate; relief that we had just dodged a bullet.

Barely six months before, I had never met you, never stayed in the same space with you, didn’t even believe in you. The one thing I knew was that, for this young man, it was anybody but Goodluck Jonathan. But then you filled me with such hope, because you appeared to finally carry on your shoulders the burdens of an exhausted, furious generation.

I was as furious as anyone. Actually, I was more furious than most. Furious enough to burn bridges, risk backlash, annoy friends and family; to cross the divide to vote and work passionately for a man I had voted for reluctantly, even bitterly, only four years before.

It was like a miracle. I never believed this was going to happen. I never believed an opposition leader could win an election in our country; I never believed that citizens could make this change happen in my lifetime.

It was so hard to believe that I continued to argue with my team, right up to time that the incumbent president conceded. Our data already projected your win, but I refused to be seduced, memories of Karl Rove making a fool of himself on Fox News over a quixotic Mitt Romney win in 2012 haunting me. “Push all the votes from the South-East and the South-South to Jonathan’s column,” I said to my colleague Joachim MacEbong. “Assume Buhari gets zero votes there. What we have now is too deceptive. An opposition candidate can’t win with such a margin.”

I couldn’t believe it, until it happened. Some days, even now, I wake up and I almost still can’t believe it.

From 2010, when I became active in civic spaces, this had been the dream: to have a citizen-led movement that could put the fear of God into the political establishment.

I had spent days on the streets, in protest, at risk to life and business. I had sat in countless meetings and strategy sessions. I had spent millions of my own money invested in this vision. I had spent time in private and group prayer, shouting in pain, sobbing in frustration, crying out for all of this to not be for nothing, to be for some intervention, for some sign from God that our country would be better, even in our lifetimes. I didn’t believe it could be that dramatic, I didn’t believe it could come to pass.

But it did. And when it did, it was enough to overturn my theology of God’s agenda for politics. Because it certainly felt like an answer to our prayers. It certainly felt like divine intervention. It absolutely felt like the heavens had heard Nigeria’s heart cry. It had to be. This was a miracle. You were a miracle. You were a change, desperately sought. A change, desperately won.

But it wasn’t really about you, Mr. President. This was never about you.

You were a symbol of our aspiration, you were an expression of a democratic ideal: that the citizen is the most powerful force in any democracy. You were a symbol that we mattered, that our voices mattered. That if we organised, we could defeat powerful forces. That if we came together, nothing was truly beyond our grasp, no possibility beyond the reach of a determined population. That we, truly, are the ones that we have been waiting for.

For me, after 10 years of nation building aspirations and five years of activist engagement, you presented the unique opportunity for all to come together. For the networks, and the platforms and the reputation and the skills and the creativity that I had to come to a head, to join the effort to make change happen. And there were many Nigerians who took that risk also, because we saw a ray of sunlight.

We thought this was worth the risk. This had to be worth the risk.

The many people who worked incredibly hard to get you into office, but then stayed aside and asked for no benefit in return, thought it was worth that risk. It was the reason I said no to an offer to join this administration in its first two years; same as many people that I know. We couldn’t dare corrupt this one sacrifice – this gift – with the appearance of self-interest.

But it’s not just about those who can afford to keep their distance. It’s more about the many whom your inchoate policies hurt the most – the people you told us you were running for.

Remember that woman who wrapped up her entire savings and donated to your campaign? Do you remember her, sir?

What would you say to her, if you saw her today?

I write this today because I don’t know what happens next.

I don’t know if you are well, or how well you are. You haven’t treated us, your citizens, your voters, with the respect of telling us what ails you, how it ails you and how it affects your ability to do your job. Instead you treat us with the scorn and contempt that Aso Rock seems to breed – the contempt of silence.

Look at the nation you left behind, as you duck for cover in the United Kingdom: Healthcare so shabby even you can’t rely on it for your own well being. Schools still exactly in the state in which you met them 24 months ago. An economy in shambles. An anti-corruption fight running around in circles. A nation fragmented, with the one time since the 1960s in which Biafra has become a dominant narrative – courtesy of tone-deaf ethnic-coloured politics. Businesses attacked by a combination of violent tax authorities and ham-fisted fiscal policies, which seem to punish citizens for the failings of past governments and inadequacies of this one. Indeed, the anecdotal stories of businesses folded up, investments dried up, jobs lost and dreams shattered have become the defining testimony of your leadership.

You have taken the hopes and the dreams and the faith that we invested in you, and you have shattered them into many tiny pieces.

Is this fair? Is this right? Is this why you ran? Is this what those four attempts were about? Is this the plan you had? Is this the vision you shared? Is this what this was all about – just being president?

It is easy for us to hide under the shadow of your acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, who makes it easy to prove citizens right, that we made the proper choice to vote for change and to upset the old system in 2015. It is convenient to turn to him as justification for our wisdom.

But the truth is that, for me, it isn’t. You are the man with the mandate. You are the man with the ultimate responsibility.

To be honest, there is no regret in voting for you. Even if everything failed, even if your acting president had been a failure, there would be no regret in voting for you.

We had a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea. As it turns out, we chose the deep blue sea.

If that time came again, I would make no other choice, even with everything I know now. With everything I have, and everything I believe and everything I hold dear, I am passionate about the fact that, despite the disappointment you have presented to us, voting what you represented for president was a crucial step in re-making Nigeria, in the long term.

I just wish you had made it easier, with your performance, with visionary leadership, with actions and decisions, to justify that choice. I wish we could point to the short term, as well as the long term as the vindication of that choice. I wish you had risen up to the occasion, Mr. President.

Yes, you care for Nigeria. I know that. Or at least I think I do. But that doesn’t matter. It’s neither here nor there. Love is not just something you say, love is something you do. And there is no evidence, today, of your love.

We didn’t vote for you to try your best; we didn’t vote for you to complain to no end, no. We voted for you to make change happen.

And no matter what your remaining rabid supporters, either blinded still by anger at Dr. Jonathan, blinded by the comfort of denial or blinded by proximity to power, say, this is the truth: we are disappointed in you. This is not the change we voted for.

Of course, there is still a year to make it happen before the politicking fully kicks in, but not today.

Instead, disappointment, shame, sadness – that has become your legacy.

And it breaks my heart sir.

It breaks so many hearts, home and abroad. Those who believed passionately in you. Those who didn’t believe but decided to give you a chance. Those who couldn’t bring themselves to vote for you but still celebrated the possibility of change. Those who rolled the dice and hoped for the best.

Your performance, your failings, the ineptitude, it has severely broken their hearts. It has severely broken my heart.

I sincerely hope, in your quiet moments of truth, that it breaks your heart too.
