Burna Boy Says He’ll Go Shirtless If He Sees Someone Wearing Same Shirt With Him

Popular Nigerian Afrofusion singer and songwriter, Damini Ogulu, better known by his stage name Burna Boy, has said he can go shirtless if he sees someone wearing the same shirt he is wearing at an event.

The “Ye” crooner said this during an interview with Africa’s Finest, a fashion magazine.

When asked to describe his style, he said:

“I try to do what makes me feel like I’m swaggy, it could be a named brand or not. It just has to make me feel good. It just has to be different. For me, if it’s not different, then I don’t feel good.”

“I could go somewhere wearing a shirt, and if I see someone wearing the same shirt, I’ll take it off and just be shirtless!

He added:

“I’m working on it as we speak. It’s my ‘merch’ from my tours but the design is really giving out what I would wear. If I were to wear what I’m wearing right now, It would be all Burna Boy, it would be all my design. That’s basically it! It would be my designs on clothes that I like. I’d describe it as ‘Reckless & Sweet’.”

Governors Tell Labour To Expect Sacking If We Must Pay N30,000 Minimum Wage

Governors Tell Labour To Expect Sacking If We Must Pay N30,000 Minimum Wage

Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, has disclosed that governors in the country cannot afford to pay workers a minimum wage of N30,000 unless the organised labour wants its members to be sacked.

Yari, who is also the Governor of Zamfara State, also said that the governors at their emergency meeting in Abuja on Wednesday night, asked the Federal Government to also accede to the review of the national revenue allocation formula.

His words: “Following a meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum where we deliberated on the national minimum wage, governors resolved to re-strategise and put together another committee to meet with the President once again, to work out another formula towards quickly resolving the problem associated with the proposed N30.000 minimum wage which is impracticable unless labour agrees to a downsizing of the workforce all over the country or the Federal Government itself accedes to the review of the national revenue allocation formula.

“Members of the committee who were nominated to see the President include the governors of Lagos, Kebbi, Plateau, Bauchi, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi. Enugu and Kaduna.”

According to him, while the governors would want to pay, they would not be able to do so due to meagre resources available to them.

He said “But we still say we want to pay,  but the issue is the ability to pay.

“If we say no, it is not about the ability to pay, just pay, I don’t know how this formulae will work and I don’t know how we can get a solution to the issue.

“We are paying N18,000 (as minimum wage today), but when the President assumed office, about 27 states were not able to pay, not that they chose not to pay.

“So, now you say N30,000, how many of them can pay? We will be bankrupt (if we pay). So as Nigerians, we should look at the issues seriously.

“While other people are saying that governors are riding jets and living in affluence, that one is not luxury but compulsory.

“Like Lagos that is paying about N7bn as salaries; if you say it should pay N30,000, now it will be N13bn.

“From our calculation, it is only Lagos State that will be able to pay N30,000. As Nigerians, this is our country; there is no other country we have and we should be fair to this country.”

“As for the way forward, we will continue to talk with Labour. Let them see reasons and difficulties some of us have.

“For instance, the money Lagos State is using to pay is not coming from Abuja.

“They have a way of getting their money from the IGR and that is why they can afford to pay. They get money through VAT (as well).

“Apart from Lagos, even Rivers State cannot afford to pay. So we have been crying out about this since 2011 but no one will listen.

“One critical example is that some states ration their salaries while some others put everything they earn on the table and ask labour to come and see  and ask them to suggest how much should go for capital and personnel costs.

“Some say 70 per cent for personnel cost and 30 per cent for capital projects and yet the states cannot pay and they put the remaining as outstanding.”

The academic is being arraigned for allegedly demanding sex from one of his students, Ms Monica Osagie, in order to upgrade her academic result from fail to pass.

An ICPC Spokesperson, Mrs. Rasheedat Okoduwa, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday. The Commission said his actions were contrary to Sections 8 (1) (a) (ii), and 18 (d) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000 and are punishable under the same sections.

One of the counts reads, “That you, professor Akindele, on or about the Sept. 16 2017 at Ile-Ife did corruptly ask for sexual benefits for yourself from Ms. Monica Osagie on account of favour to be afterwards shown to her by you in the discharge of your official duties as a lecturer in the Department of Management and Accounting, Obafemi Awolowo University, to wit.”

“This altered her academic grades in the course with code MBA 632- Research Method from fail to pass; and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 8(1)(a)(ii) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.”

The spokesperson said that the 57-year-old professor had asked for plea-bargain having admitted guilt.

This public announcement of Prof Akindele’s impending arraignment is in fulfillment of the commission’s promise to the public in a rejoinder in the same newspaper dated September 7, 2018, to avail them of the outcome of the investigation in due time.

Manchester United Midfielder Marouane Fellaini Has A New Haircut, And He Looks Strange

Featured Image

It seems Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini forgot his own birthday after unveiling a new haircut to mark the occasion a week too soon.

Marouane Fellaini has lost his distinctive black afro, and shared the fresh trim with his Twitter followers on Wednesday along with the hashtag ‘birthdaytomorrow’.

However, according to Fellaini’s account, the Man Utd website and various online sources, his birthday is next Thursday on November 22nd.

The cause of the confusion remains unclear, but Fellaini tweeted: “New year, new look #birthdaytomorrow.”

Fellaini has rarely changed from the trademark afro he has sported since his emergence at Belgian club Standard Liege, with fans at former club Everton fond of wearing wigs in homage.

Eko Atlantic City Issues Official Response To Davido’s Allegations

The management of the Eko Atlantic has issued an official statement refuting the allegations of bias levied against it by Davido.

The Afro-pop star had earlier in the day poured out his annoyance at the Eko Atlantic; accusing it of refusing to grant him access to hold his December 27, concert at the city.

He wrote: “So my show this December at eko Atlantic Was not approved … I wonder why ? Hmmm ANYWAYS ANNOUNCING A NEW VENUE SOON!! ITS A DIRTY GAME BUT I CANT BE STOPPED!!”

The DMW boss further said that he said he was being denied the venue because of his support for the opposing political party, the People Democratic Party (PDP) during the Osun state election.

The singer added: “Nah the highest dem fit do be that ! I I WILL SUPPORT WHO I WANT TO SUPPORT AND WILL NOT SWITCH SIDES OVER A F-CKING VENUE !! ITS F-CK EM! DEC 27TH CITY OF DAVID CONCERT STILL ON! ANNOUNCING VENUE SOON! LOVE YALL”

Davido Furious As Eko Atlantic Allegedly Bars Him From Using Venue For His December Concert

However, in an attempt to quell the misinformation, the Eko Atlantic has refuted Davido’s allegations in an official release made available to 360nobs.

The statement read:

It has been brought to our attention that we have allegedly denied the musician Davido’s request to use Eko Atlantic City for his upcoming concert.

We received this request on November 8 to which we responded for clarification and details about the event on November 9. We are yet to receive the requested information so, the notion that we declined his request is false and to imply we are politically motivated is false.

Some of the additional information requested was pertaining to security provisions and Eko Atlantic City is not an event center and rather a city with existing residents and businesses. In light of this, we have strict rules and regulations when it comes to events and activities within the city, which require due process.

Eko Atlantic City takes the safety and security of the visitors to the city very seriously. We expect the same safety and security measures from event organizers who hold events in Eko Atlantic City. Any event within the city requires a proper level of planning, safety, and security from event organizers.

As a final note, Davido and some upcoming artists shot a video in Eko Atlantic earlier this year, which we welcomed, as we believe in the development of our entertainment industry in Nigeria as seen on our social media pages.

Report: English FA Planning On Reducing The Number Of Foreign Footballers In The Premier League

Featured Image

In a bid to deal with Brexit and boost the number of homegrown players, the English FA is planning to reduce the number of overseas players in Premier League squads to 12 from 17, according to The Times

The proposal, to be put to the clubs this week, would mean significant changes to a number of sides. Thirteen clubs have more than 12 overseas players in their first-team squads this season.

The FA would in return agree to give a governing body endorsement, usually issued for a non-EU/European Economic Area elite player to help the development of football in England, for a work permit for every foreign player who gets a contract with a Premier League club, the report said.

If the clubs fail to reach agreement with the FA on Brexit, they could face a “no-deal” scenario where all EU players would have to fulfil the same criteria that non-EU players do now to get a work permit, the report added.

“We are continuing to work with the Premier League, EFL [English Football League] and a range of government departments, including: DCMS [Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport]; Home Office; Treasury during this consultation period,” an FA spokesperson told Reuters.

Lionel Messi Is A Football Alien – Malcom

Featured Image

Barcelona winger Malcom has described Lionel Messi as a ” football alien” and said he is learning so much just from playing alongside him

Malcom moved to Barcelona from Bordeaux in the summer for an initial €41 million and scored his first goal in the 1-1 draw against Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Malcom told ESPN Brasil that Messi is an inspiring figure in the dressing room and has a way of getting the best out of his teammates.

“A few minutes before starting the match, in the tunnel, he told me that when he gets the ball he will find me,” Malcom said. “And he does because he’s a football alien.

“He’s someone who always wants the best for the group. This is why he’s the captain and someone who can inspire players to give their best because, coming from someone has five Ballon d’Or awards, you end up doing well and you’re motivated to do it.”

Malcom also said that by simply playing alongside Messi, he is improving as a player.

“For me, he’s the best in the world,” Malcom said. “It’s difficult to talk about.

Magic Carpet Studios Set To Make Africa’s First 2D Feature Animation Film! Check Out The Teaser Trailer Here!

Featured Image

Many of us might have grown up reading Cyprian Ekwensi’s ‘The Passport of Mallam Ilia’. Anyone remember the Sanchi battle between Usman and Ilia? The prize for that fight-to-the-death was the beautiful princess, Zarah.

Magic Carpet Studios, an animation, illustration and game development studio in Lagos, has set out to repackage this timeless tale for old faithfuls and a new generation. The studio acquired the rights to the book earlier this year, and is in the process of making a 2D animation movie based on the book, the first of its kind to come out of Africa.

Magic Carpet, described by industry experts and enthusiasts as the ‘Disney of Africa’, is no new entrant to crossing frontiers. Its short film projects titled, ‘The Day Morning Never Came’, ‘The Reclamation’ and ‘Corruption: The Musical’, done in partnership with the Creative Youth Initiative against Corruption (CYIAC), powered by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, beat over 700 nominations from 125 countries to win the Innovative category at the first UN Sustainable Development Goals Action Awards in Germany.

A lineup of renowned actors in Nollywood have been assembled: leading the pack is Sadiq Dabba, who has been signed up to voice Ilia while Mr. Makinde Adeniran of BBC’s ‘Story Story’, is playing the role of Casting Director.

Faced with funding concerns owing to the magnanimity of this project, the studio has set up a Kickstarter to crowdfund this project. They are also willing to enter partnerships with corporates and individuals. As part of the kick starter campaign to raise the first milestone of USD30,000, Magic Carpet released the movie teaser, watch below.

You can support this project by donating via Kickstarter (international donors/PayPal) or the project’s website (optimized for local currency). The studio provides givebacks for every donation level. To participate in this project, or have the folks at Magic Carpet translate your gaming, illustration and animation needs to life, contact them at hello@magiccarpet.studio

Magic Carpet is a subsidiary of Imaginarium Creative Global Limited, a content factory, which is listed in Business Day’s Top 100 Fastest Growing SMEs in Nigeria. You can learn more about the studio, its Magic Lab Project which aims to train one thousand animators in 5 years, and more, on the studio’s website.
