Former Arsenal Midfielder Mathieu Flamini Tells Footballers To Use Their Influence For Important Causes

Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini has called on footballers to use their influence to help important causes.

10 years after launching his own biochemicals company, Mathieu Flamini and Mesut Ozil have set up their own environmentally-friendly grooming brand.

He has called on fellow professionals to follow and take the lead on current environmental matters.

“We have responsibility to the fans and the younger generation who are following us on social media, so it’s important for us to stand up for causes which are important,” Flamini told ‘BBC Radio 5 live’.

“Football players are more than athletes. They are also people who can influence the next generation and it is a necessity for us to take the lead.”

“I have always been very close to nature and I always wanted to give my contribution,” he said.

“We are not trying to change the world, we have a very humble approach.

“If you believe in something, if you are passionate about a mission, why not stand up for it. I believe it is the right thing to do.”

Fulham Appoint Claudio Ranieri As Manager After Sacking Slavisa Jokanovic

Featured Image

Slavisa Jokanovic has been sacked by Fulham with Claudio Ranieri appointed as the club’s new manager.

Fulham made the announcement on Wednesday morning after the club’s poor start to the Premier League campaign.

Italian Ranieri, 67, has been given a “multi-year” contract by the ‘Cottagers’.

“Making a change without having the right answer or succession plan was not an option,” said Fulham chairman Shahid Khan.

“So having someone of Claudio’s calibre ready to accept our challenge was comforting but, most of all, essential.

“Claudio is risk-free and ready-made for the Premier League, and particularly so for what we need at this moment at Fulham.

“His recent body of work with Leicester City is literally legendary, and then you look at Claudio’s experience with Chelsea and big clubs throughout Europe, and it’s pretty evident we are welcoming an extraordinary football man to Fulham Football Club.”

Ranieri, who guided Leicester to the Premier League title in 2016, has spoke about his excitement to return to the Premier League.

“It is an honour to accept Mr Khan’s invitation and opportunity to lead Fulham, a fantastic club with tradition and history,” said Ranieri, who spent last season in charge of French club Nantes.

“The objective at Fulham should never be to merely survive in the Premier League. We must at all times be a difficult opponent and should expect to succeed.

“This Fulham squad has exceptional talent that is contrary to its position in the table.”

Ranieri’s first game in charge will see Fulham host Southampton at Craven Cottage on Saturday, 24 November.

“I know this team is very capable of better performances, which we will work on straight away as we prepare for Southampton at the Cottage,” he added.

Monaco Reacts To Reports That They Broke Transfer Rules While Trying To Sign Young Players

Featured Image

Monaco have denied reports that they broke rules regarding the recruitment of youth players.

Mediapart alleges that Monaco violated rules with regard to buying two players under the age of 18 – who have not been named – after analysing data released by Football Leaks.

A statement issued earlier on Tuesday by the French Football Federation (FFF) and the country’s professional league (LFP) explained that the matter had been passed to the respective bodies’ Elite Players Status and Juridical committees to explore the circumstances surrounding the acquisitions.

The statement read: “These two commissions will be responsible for investigating in order to determine the possible disciplinary and/or criminal consequences of these files.”

Monaco have since rebuked the allegations via a statement on their website, which reads: “Monaco denies the information published in a Mediapart article on Tuesday.

“The club affirms that it respects not only the applicable laws but also the regulations of the national and international sports authorities in the framework of the recruitment of minor players.

“We are at the disposal of the FFF and the LFP to explain our recruitment methods

Jose Mourinho Better Than Pep Guardiola – Diego Maradona

Featured Image

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is a better manager than Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola, according to Diego Maradona.

Maradona feels former Real Madrid, Chelsea and Inter boss Mourinho is the world’s best coach.

“For me yes, Mou is the best,” he told ‘Marca’.

“I would give Pep the merit of taking advantage of the launch that Johan Cruyff gave him.

“I have said on more than one occasion that tiki-taka was not invented by Guardiola. It was ‘Flaco’ Cruyff.

“At the moment Pep is able to choose any player in the world that he wants. That way tiki-taka is easier.”

Maradona, now in charge of Mexican second-tier side Dorados, said he still had room to improve as a coach.

Asked if he would be interested in coaching in Spain, the 1986 World Cup winner said only a “long-term project” would interest him, but first he wants to go to Manchester to learn from Mourinho.

Lionel Messi Will Still Play For Argentina – Diego Maradona

Featured Image

Argentina legend Diego Maradona believes Lionel Messi will eventually make an international return.

Lionel Messi, 31, last played for Argentina at the World Cup in Russia and will miss their upcoming friendlies against Mexico.

But Maradona, who led Argentina to World Cup glory in 1986, believes the Barcelona superstar will return to the international scene.

Asked by ‘Marca’ if Messi will feature in the future for Argentina, Maradona said: “I think so.

“We will see, because if not then we are in trouble.”

Maradona also denied he had criticised Messi earlier this year, when it was said he questioned the attacker’s leadership

He would never chastise his compatriot in such a way publicly.

“Leo is a friend of mine and I never talk badly about a friend in public. I would say it to the face, and not through an interview,” Maradona said.

“About Leo, all I would say is that he is a phenomenon and nothing more. There are players that go to the bathroom 20 times [before a match] but I never referred to Messi.”

Real Madrid To Go All Out For Fourth Consecutive UEFA Champions League Trophy – Luka Modric

Featured Image

Luka Modric has declared that Real Madrid will ‘give everything’ to continue their dominance and win a fourth straight Champions League title

Luka Modric played a crucial role in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumphs in 2016, 2017 and 2018, the latter combining with an exceptional World Cup to bag him the Best FIFA Men’s Player award ahead of former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in September.

The Croatian earlier also helped Real to Champions League glory in 2014.

“I hope to win some titles that we have ahead of us, and above all to improve our game. And with the new coach, I’m sure we’re going to improve and have a good season,” Modric told Goal.com as he was awarded with this year’s Goal 50 trophy, handed out each year by the online publication since the 2007/08 season.

“Nothing is impossible in football, especially for Real Madrid, as what we have done the last three seasons is something unimaginable, but we have achieved it.

“Why can’t we go for the fourth [consecutive Champions League]? We are going to give everything. We have to be humble, work hard and respect others because there are great teams and every year it is more and more difficult to win this cup.

“We have shown many times that nothing is impossible for this team.”

Real Madrid Confirm Santiago Solari As Head Coach Until 2021

Real Madrid Confirm Santiago Solari As Head Coach Until 2021

Santiago Solari on Tuesday was confirmed as Real Madrid coach until 2021 following his successful spell in charge as caretaker boss of the European champions.

“Real Madrid’s board of directors met today and decided to name Santiago Solari as first team coach until June 30, 2021,” the club announced in a statement.

Solari’s anointment as sacked Julen Lopetegui’s permanent successor comes after wins in his first four matches.

And with 15 goals scored and only two conceded, the 42-year-old Argentinian has established the best ever start for a Real manager.

After thrashing Melilla in the Copa del Rey, they won 5-0 away to Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League, between victories over Real Valladolid and Celta Vigo in La Liga.

The upturn has left Madrid only four points adrift of league leaders Barcelona and on the brink of qualification for the last 16 in Europe.

Solari was handed the reins on a temporary two-week basis on October 29 after Lopetegui had overseen a miserable run that included just one victory in seven games.

The last of those, a 5-1 thumping at the hands of Barcelona, proved the final straw for club president Florentino Perez but the team have rebounded under their new coach.

News that he had been rewarded with a permanent contract surfaced on Monday when the Spanish federation announced: “Everything is in order. Real Madrid have worked out his contract and there are no problems.”

The Spanish press had urged Real to appoint the former Castilla ‘B’ team coach.

Solari’s maiden match as long-term boss is the trip to Eibar in La Liga on November 25, following the international break.

Zinedine Zidane also stepped up mid-season from coaching Castilla in 2016 and led the team to the first of three consecutive Champions League trophies five months later.

This is Solari’s maiden job in charge of a first team.

Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Joachim Low had all been linked to the position.

Gary Neville believes Liverpool have grown enormously since signing Virgil van Dijk in January.

Liverpool splashed out a club record fee of £75m to bring Van Dijk to Anfield after he impressed during his time with Southampton.

Whilst the cost of the deal raised some eyebrows initially, Van Dijk has seemingly justified his hefty price tag with some commanding performances at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast on Sunday, he said: “Liverpool have grown enormously in this last 12 to 18 months. The biggest change has been the defensive difference and the introduction of Van Dijk.

“The front three we’ve known about for 18 months, the introduction of Van Dijk has meant they look a formidable defensive team. With him there, they’ve got someone that can anchor the defence.”

Victor Lindelof has been named Sweden’s Footballer of the year, with 10-time winner Zlatan Ibrahimovic missing out on the award for the second year running.

Lindelof was awarded the Golden Ball trophy during a ceremony in Stockholm on Monday evening after helping Sweden reach the World Cup quarterfinals

It’s the second year in a row that the player-of-the-year award goes to a centre-back, with Andreas Granqvist winning in 2017, ending a run of Ibrahimovic winning 10 times in succession.

“It means a lot to me, I’m incredibly proud,” Lindelof told newspaper Aftonbladet, which awards the prize. “It’s an award that I grew up with and watched on TV when Zlatan stood there year after year. It’s huge, and it’s still hard to comprehend.”

Neymar Joining Real Madrid Would Not Upset Me – Andres Iniesta

Featured Image

Andres Iniesta insists he would not be upset if his former Barcelona team-mate Neymar joined LaLiga rivals Real Madrid.

Neymar left Barcelona in 2017 after four successful seasons, which saw them win two LaLiga titles and the Champions League, to join Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee of €222million.

The Brazilian superstar has consistently been linked with a switch to Madrid since his arrival in France

“It wouldn’t hurt me because there are decisions that if they happen, happen,” he told ‘Cadena SER’.

“Madrid would reinforce themselves with a unique player.”

Iniesta does not envisage Neymar returning to Barca and believes his former club have responded well to losing one of their star attackers.

“Obviously, Neymar continues to be one of the best and in any team he would make a difference, but it’s not easy to return,” he added.

“Barcelona have unique players and I see them as candidates to win all the titles.

“Barca have reinforced themselves well this year. There are people like [Philippe] Coutinho, who has adapted well. I see a powerful team.”

Juventus are interested in signing James Rodriguez, who is currently in his second year on loan at Bayern Munich from Real Madrid. The Colombian has fallen out of favour under Niko Kovac, with the 27-year-old thought to be unhappy with his role under Kovac and should he plot an escape, the Italian champions will most likely head the queue for his signature. (Calciomercato)

Several of Europe’s top clubs will keep a close eye on Sandro Tonali this week, with the 18-year-old Brescia midfielder set to make his Italy debut. Tonali, who has been dubbed ‘the new Pirlo’, was called up to the Azzurri by Roberto Mancini for the Nations League clash with Portugal and friendly against the USA after a string of impressive performances for the Serie B side. Noted admirers include Manchester City, Chelsea, Inter, Juventus and Roma. City boss Pep Guardiola sent a scout to watch Italy train at Coverciano on Monday. (La Gazzetta dello Sport)

Juventus are showing an interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho. The 18-year-old England international has impressed for the Bundesliga leaders this season with five goals and seven assists in all competitions. (Calciomercato)

France

As well as Samir Nasri, West Ham are interested in making a move for ‘another important Premier League player’. Nasri is expected to join the Hammers on a short-term deal having undergone a medical on Monday. Although there are fears over his fitness and wage demands, Manuel Pellegrini is keen to recruit the 31-year-old, whose 18-month doping ban ends on December 31. Pellegrini is determined to bolster his attacking ranks after Andriy Yarmolenko was ruled out for the rest of the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. (France Football, via Sport Witness)

Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez is a Tottenham transfer target. The 22-year-old Uruguayan has scored six goals and notched four assists for Celta this season after finding the net 17 times for the Galician side in the 2017/18 campaign. Nicknamed ‘Toro’, meaning Bull, Gomez is also attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund. (El Pais, via Sport Witness)

Real Madrid are interested in Juan Quintero, who caught the eye for Colombia during the World Cup. Quintero is still contracted to Porto but has been on loan at River Plate since January, helping the Argentinian side reach the Copa Libertadores final. (Le10Sport)

Spain

Santiago Solari is set to be rewarded for steadying the Real Madrid ship by being offered to stay on as manager until the end of the season. The 42-year-old Argentinian, who spent five years at the Bernabeu as a player, has won all of his four matches in charge since taking over from Julen Lopetegui, enough to convince the club’s hierarchy that he deserves the job until next summer. (Marca)

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte, who has been linked to Real Madrid, has responded to Sergio Ramos’ comments about respect. The defender claimed that respect is “not imposed, but earned” when discussing the possibility of Conte’s appointment at Madrid, to which Conte has replied: “When a coach arrives at a team, he must bring education and respect, something that he would expect from the players too”. The Italian also confirmed that he plans to wait until the summer before taking a new job. (Marca, via Rai Sport)

A key figure under Lopetegui, Isco now finds himself without a place under Solari. The Spain international playmaker has managed just 51 minutes during Solari’s four games in charge and was an unused substitute in the 4-2 win over Celta Vigo at the weekend. With that, the 26-year-old will listen to offers come January. The former Malaga star has in the past been a Juventus transfer target. (AS)

Pablo Zabaleta is set to retire at the end of the season. The 33-year-old Argentinian, who won two Premier League titles with Manchester City, is currently with West Ham but plans to hang up his boots next summer for family reasons. (Sport)

France Boss Didier Deschamps Tells Ousmane Dembele To Improve His Attitude

Featured Image

France coach Didier Deschamps says Ousmane Dembele must improve his professionalism to make it at the top level.

Dembele was left out of Barca’s squad to face Real Betis this weekend after missing training with a ‘stomach bug’, failing to inform the club that he was feeling unwell, before training alone on Friday.

Quoted by ESPN, Didier Deschamps said: “Ousmane has been with us for a while. That’s his usual trick to be late, although in his defence I’m sure he’ll say: ‘I’m not the only one.’ Whether he’s at a big club like Barcelona, with the French national team or somewhere else, he has to pay attention to that. It’s part of the life and requirements of a professional footballer.

“He must improve to prevent it from becoming negative. These are situations that [have been] repeated. The sooner he understands that, the better for everyone.”

Andreas Christensen Hints At Chelsea Stay Despite Reduced First-team Football

Featured Image

Andreas Christensen has suggested that he has no plans to leave Chelsea during the January transfer window, despite his lack of first-team football.

Andreas Christensen enjoyed a breakthrough season under Antonio Conte last term with 40 appearances across all competitions, but the switch from three central defenders to just two has meant a decrease in playing time under new boss Maurizio Sarri.

Indeed, the 22-year-old has played just six times so far this term and is yet to feature for a single minute in the Premier League, and he admits that he is not happy with the current situation.

When asked whether his future lies away from Stamford Bridge, Christensen told Sky Sports News: “Difficult question. No, I don’t think so. Things are different from last season. I played a lot of games [last season] but this season it hasn’t been like that.

“It’s always difficult for a player but we’ll see what happens. If you asked every player that’s not playing if they’re happy, they’re going to say no. Everyone wants to play. I can’t do anything else but go back there, train and do my best.

“Every time I get that opportunity, I have to do well and show him that he can count on me. You don’t want to sit around and wait for it. You want to play straight away and that’s why we all play football. Not playing is not fun. It’s a different situation to last season.”

Money In Football Is Truly Indecent – Kylian Mbappe

Featured Image
Mbappe became the second most expensive player in history when he completed a permanent transfer to PSG from Monaco this year for a reported fee of €180million.

His team-mate Neymar joined from Barcelona in 2017 for €222m in a deal that shook the European game and led to four more deals worth more than €100m, including Mbappe’s taking place over the next 12 months.

Reports based on documents from whistleblowing platform Football Leaks this month claimed Mbappe asked for a five-year contract worth close to €55m after tax when he joined PSG, along with various performance-based incentives, which was turned down by the club.

And Mbappe has conceded there are sums involved in the top tiers of the game that he could scarcely have imagined when he was growing up.

“It’s truly indecent for me, who comes from a fairly modest family,” he told RTS.

“It’s true that it’s indecent but the market is like that. The world of football works like that.

“I’m not going to revolutionise football. I’m in a system. You have to know how to respect it and to stay in place.”

Xherdan Shaqiri Warns His Best Is Yet To Come At Liverpool

Featured Image

Xherdan Shaqiri believes we have not seen the best from him yet at Liverpool

Xherdan Shaqiri has two goals and two assists in eight Premier League appearances for the ‘Reds’ this season – five of those as a substitute – the Swiss international is making a good impression.

While crediting his team, however, Shaqiri insists he won’t stop here.

“Of course I’m confident there are more goals to come,” he said. “It’s always better if you’ve got better players around you, if you can be more offensive, if you know that you are for sure going to have more possession than the opponent.

“But you also need to be ready to train hard every day. I’m feeling good, I’m fit, and I’m trying to give my best every time I get a chance.”

Shaqiri is no stranger to European football’s highest levels, winning the Champions League with Bayern Munich before stints with Inter Milan and Stoke City.

“I played at Bayern Munich with Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben so I knew already what that was like,” Shaqiri said.

“It was nothing new. I knew already how good these very talented players were. Because there are different coaches, they play a different type of football but the intensity is the same at Liverpool as it was at Bayern Munich.

“To compare teams is very difficult.”

While the 27-year-old has not been able to cement a starting berth with Liverpool’s dangerous front three, despite starting and scoring on Sunday against Fulham, he believes this current team is of a similar quality.

Kasper Schmeichel Admis Emotions Are Still Raw Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s Death

Featured Image

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel admits “emotions are still very raw” as he returns to Cardiff – where Leicester City won their first match after their owner’s death – with Denmark.

Kasper Schmeichel was in tears as his side won 1-0 in the Welsh capital just a week after the helicopter crash which claimed the lives of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and four others outside the King Power Stadium.

The Leicester City captain witnessed the tragic event, and has been at the forefront of all tributes to the immensely popular chairman.

Wales manager Ryan Giggs has come out to praise Schmeichel’s conduct and class, however the 32-year-old has admitted himself that emotions are still raw.

“The emotion is still raw, we’re still in the memory of it,” he told ‘Sky Sports News’ ahead of that match.

“In the end we had a good experience in Cardiff because we won, I chose to leave here with positive feelings,” he added.

“That’s testament to the family that Vichai built, the way he led the club, the visions and dreams he had, the way he got everyone together and on board,” Schmeichel said.

“In football players chop and change a lot, I think Leicester is a club where players want to stay.

“You can see that by the players we have now extending contracts long term.

“Everyone has bought into his vision and ideas, now it’s up to us to help his son and family carry on his vision, his ambitions and dreams.

“That’s a responsibility we have to take now.”

Joe Cole Retires From Football At 37

Former West Ham, Chelsea and Liverpool star Joe Cole has announced his retirement from professional football with an emotional statement issued on Tuesday morning.

Chelsea Legend Didier Drogba Retires From Football

Cole, who turned 37 last week, now wishes to pursue a career as a coach, after making 716 professional appearances, scoring 104 goals for seven clubs, and completed his career with Tampa Bay Rowdies in the United Soccer League.

He said: “After 20 years as a professional, the time has come for me to hang up my boots. 716 professional games, 104 goals, for seven great clubs – West Ham, Chelsea, Liverpool, Lille, Aston Villa, Coventry City and the Tampa Bay Rowdies – as well the honour of playing for England. It has been a dream come true. All of it.

“Looking to the future, I want to stay involved in the game.

“I feel I can offer a lot as a coach and have really enjoyed the opportunity to undertake some of these duties with the Rowdies.

“To lend my experience to help other young footballers achieve their dreams, just like I did, is a big passion of mine.”

He made 56 England appearances and appeared in three World Cup tournaments after making his debut aged 19 following an impressive start to his career at West Ham.

Cole joined West Ham at the age of eight and made 187 appearances, scoring 18 goals, in two spells, from 1998 to 2003 and 2013-14.

He made his debut as a 17-year-old in January 1999, graduating to become captain, leaving for Chelsea only after the Hammers’ relegation from the Premier League.

Cole won every domestic honour during his time at Chelsea, contributing to the Blues’ first championship in 50 years in 2004-05 under Jose Mourinho.

European success proved elusive as Cole was in the Chelsea side beaten by Manchester United on penalties in the 2008 Champions League final in Moscow.
