Craig Shakespeare Insists Leicester City Aren’t Safe From Relegation Yet

Featured Image

Craig Shakespeare has warned his Leicester city side that they are not safe from the threat of relegation ahead of Wednesday’s match against Arsenal.

Leicester city slipped into the relegation zone when Shakespeare took over, but wins in their first five league outings saw them climb away from danger.

However, having seen his side fail to win any of their last four games in all competitions, Shakespeare is wary of allowing complacency to creep into their game.

“Yesterday [in their game] I saw the Arsenal players were fighting to win and they thoroughly deserved their victory,” he told reporters.

“I’m not sure what they’ll do on Wednesday as they have good depth, but we have to focus on ourselves. I’m not sure how many points survival will take. All teams are capable of wins. We don’t know what’s around the corner.

“We aren’t safe. Even if we get there we’ve to keep trying to win. Competitiveness is vital in football. We need it to the end.”

Antonio Conte Plays Down ‘Psychological’ Advantage Over Tottenham

Featured Image

Antonio Conte has played down suggestions that his side’s FA Cup semi-final victory over Tottenham Hotspur will give them the psychological edge in the Premier League title race.

Chelsea booked their place in the final with a 4-2 triumph over their London rivals at Wembley, ending Tottenham’s eight-match winning streak in the process.

Both clubs will now turn their attentions back to the Premier League title race, where Chelsea currently lead Spurs by four points, and Conte insists that his side will continue to focus solely on their own fortunes.

“Honestly, I don’t know [whether the FA Cup win will have an impact]. I think for us it was important this win. You reach the final in the FA Cup, a great competition. And for us it’s great,” he told reporters.

“It’s great to know when after a week we finish the championship we have to play a final in the FA Cup. These are two different competitions and we have six games to go.

“It’s important to start this rush (of fixtures) very well, to  try to keep these four points (the lead). First of all it’s important to win for us and to look at ourselves.”

Inter Milan Back Manager Stefano Pioli After ‘Unacceptable’ Defeat

Featured Image

Inter Milan have given head coach Stefano Pioli their full backing following Saturday’s “unacceptable” defeat at Fiorentina.

The 51-year-old, who succeeded Frank de Boer in November, reportedly offered to resign after Fiorentina dished out a 5-4 punishment to the under-performing Nerazzurri, for whom a Mauro Icardi hat-trick proved insufficient as Matias Vecino, Khouma Babacar and Davide Astori ran riot.

It was a third defeat in four Serie A games for Inter, who are struggling to reach the Europa League qualifying places despite receiving heavy investment from the club’s new Chinese owners.

Pioli is expected to remain in charge at San Siro until the summer and the club confirmed he will not make way sooner, also announcing the squad would retreat to a training camp until Sunday.

A statement on their official website said: “The manner of the defeat at Fiorentina was unacceptable for our supporters, both in Italy and abroad, and we are determined to put this right.

“Everyone at the club, from the players to all staff, is now focused on working as hard as possible to achieve the maximum result and finish the season strongly.

“In order to achieve this, the club confirms its full backing and that of the ownership for Stefano Pioli and his entire technical team.

“Pioli joined Inter at a difficult time, and the work he has carried out together with his staff over the six months since he joined has been exceptional and deserves our full respect.”

Inter said their target “remains to finish as high as possible in Serie A and qualify for European competition by giving the maximum in every match.”

Newcastle To Make Bid For £10million-rated Fulham star Tom Cairney Once They Seal EPL Promotion

Featured Image

Newcastle will move for £10m-rated Fulham star Tom Cairney once they seal promotion, according to the Daily Mirror.

Rafael Benitez’s side can confirm promotion back to the Premier League if they beat Preston tonight.

Rafa Benitez is a big fan of the playmaker and sent scouts once again to watch Tom Cairney star against Huddersfield on Saturday.

And Benitez knows that play-off chasing Fulham will struggle to hold onto the Scot if they miss out on a top-flight return themselves.

Cairney, 26, is keen to prove himself at the highest level after failing to get a look in with old club Hull.

Bournemouth and Burnley, regular visitors to Craven Cottage this season to make checks, are also keen on offering Cairney a Prem chance.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic To Come Back ‘Even Stronger’ From Injury

Featured Image

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s one-year deal at Manchester United expires this summer and manager Jose Mourinho fears the Swede’s recovery from a knee injury will be “really, really hard” given his age.

But the former Barcelona and AC Milan striker says injuries will not decide his future in the game and he has vowed to return.

“First of all, thank you for all the support and love,” he said in a post on his Instagram page. “It’s no news I got injured so I will be out of football for a while. I will go through this like everything else and come back even stronger. So far I played with one leg so it shouldn’t be any problem. One thing is for sure, I decide when it’s time to stop and nothing else. Giving up is not an option. See you soon.”

Speaking before Sunday’s 2-0 win at Burnley, United manager Jose Mourinho said on Sky Sports: “I know (how long he will be out for), but it is for the medical department to be more specific and they prefer to wait a couple more days because the players want to see other specialists and to have an extra opinion and we have to respect that. But they are important injuries.”

Asked whether Ibrahimovic would play again, the Portuguese replied: “I don’t care about it in this moment, I just want the player to recover the best he can.”

Ibrahimovic joined the club on a free transfer from Paris St-Germain last summer but is yet to agree an extension to his one-year United deal.

Antoine Griezmann Wanted By Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City – Eric Olhats

Featured Image

Manchester United appear to be leading the chase to sign Antoine Griezmann, according to the Atletico Madrid’s striker’s advisor. Eric Olhats, the scout who helped to discover the Frenchman, claims Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested in the player.

Griezmann, who has a release clause in his contract of £84m, has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford in recent months but has insisted he wants to stay at the Spanish club.

“We’re at the stage of gathering information from clubs who have a concrete interest,” he told French TV show Telefoot.

“There is an unavoidable 100m clause so that restricts the number of candidates. You have United, City, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“United were the first to come and see us and the most concrete in their wishes.”

Kane: Tottenham Don’t Know How To Win Big Games

Featured Image

Harry Kane has come out to state that Tottenham don’t know how to win big games, after losing 4-2 to Chelsea in the FA Cup semifinal.

Tottenham restored parity twice in the match, before goals from Hazard and Matic sealed the win for Chelsea.

Kane feels Tottenham dominated the game in large spells, but lacked the ruthlessness their rivals have.

“They beat us twice and we beat them once so that’s what’s disappointing,” Kane said. “We want to find a way to win these sorts of games. We dominated large spells but Chelsea found a way to win.

“It was similar a couple of years ago, in the (2015 League) cup final, we dominated that as well. It is disappointing and hard to take. I can’t really put a finger on why, it was kind of a bit of luck and then momentum swung their way. It was hard to come back from.

“They have a great team and a great squad. Whoever comes into their squad is a great player and we were just focused on us. We set out in an attacking way and we wanted to be on the front foot.

“Even though we went behind quite early, I thought we dominated the game and had the better chances. That’s why we are so disappointed that we didn’t go on to win the game.”

Mourinho: Road To Recovery, A Hard One For Zlatan

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho admits the knee ligament injury sustained by both Ibrahimovic and Rojo is a big blow to his side and feels the Swede’s recovery will be a hard one.

Manchester United confirmed both players sustained the injury in the second leg of their Europa League match against Anderlecht.

Mourinho feels Ibrahimovic’s age will be a problem and feels for Marcos Rojo, who is starting to get into the form of his life.

“It is a big blow but we are really sad for them, not for us as a team, because they are much more important than us,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

“The injuries are really big. No player deserves to be injured. These two cases are even sadder because for Zlatan, in this phase of his career, it is really, really hard.

“Marcos was probably in the best moment of his career. He was playing very, very well for us and also getting, finally, a position as a central defender in the [Argentina] national team so I am really sad for them.”

When asked if he knows the full extent of the pair’s injuries, Mourinho replied: “Yeah, I know but I think it is for the medical department to be more specific and they prefer to wait a couple of more days because the players they want to see other specialists and have an extra opinion.

“We have to respect that but they are important injuries.”

Mourinho: Martial Is Like A New Player

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho was quite pleased with Anthony Martial’s performance in the 2-0 win over Burnley, saying it is like having a new player.

The Frenchman has come in for criticism by Mourinho, with the Portuguese questioning his work rate before the match against Anderlecht.

However, with Ibrahimovic out injured and Rashford rested, Martial started the game and impressed, he opened the scoring in the win.

Mourinho said he was impressed with his performance.

“He has to understand what we need from him but it’s not just for us but it’s also for him,” Mourinho said.

“If he wants to become a very special player – he can do that – then he has to go in a certain direction and today he showed this attitude and appetite. We are happy because we have a new player until the end of the season.”

Kane: We Want To Win EPL For Ehiogu

Featured Image

Harry Kane has stated Tottenham will try to win the EPL title after losing to Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Tribute was paid to the Tottenham U23 manager who passed away on Friday, with applause from both ends of the pitch.

Tottenham lost 4-2 to Chelsea, with Hazard and Matic scoring the goals that won it for the blues.

Kane admitted Tottenham’s players had hoped to win in Ehiogu’s honour and said their ambitions would now switch to the Premier League.

“Of course the last couple of days have been tough,” Kane said.

“Ugo was a great character around the training ground, it was just shocking news to be honest.

“Of course we’ll do everything we can to win the league for him – we wanted to win today for him and for ourselves as well.

“There are still six tough games left in the Premier League. We can’t control what Chelsea do now.

“We just have to win as many as we can and it starts Wednesday with a tough game away at Crystal Palace.”

Sane: Guardiola Asks Me To Imitate Messi And Neymar

Manchester City attacker, Leroy Sane says he is being encouraged by Pep Guardiola to play like Messi and Neymar.

The Germany international has developed into a key player for Manchester City, scoring nine goals so far.

Sane is grateful to the help and encouragement from Pep Guardiola who tells him to mirror the Argentine.

“He is able to help me with things because he knows how Messi plays, how he trains because he saw him every day,” Sane said, via The Telegraph.

“And that’s why he tries to help me – to give me the confidence to say, ‘Yes, try this – try maybe to do it like this, like Messi does or Neymar does’.”

“I was young and maybe when I played against bigger clubs at the beginning here I was thinking, ‘OK, they are better than me,’” Sane said.

“Maybe I was a bit scared also, because I was with a new team in a new country and you don’t know anything about the league.

“But then at the end Pep told me, ‘Play how you played at Schalke because you were free there.’

“The other players are all normal human beings so just play your best and play free.”

Crystal Palace play Tottenham on Sunday, before playing Liverpool and Burnley within four days.

Allardyce has turned around Crystal Palace’s bid to avoid relegation since his appointment and believes taking their points tally from 35 to 38 will help matters.

“Thirty-eight points has been enough for (survival for) 10 years or more and we have got an opportunity to get there and get beyond it,” said the 62-year-old.

“It is a big week for us to see how many points we can get. We want to take pressure off ourselves and get as many points as we can this week.

“At the end of this week there will only be three games left and, instead of one win out of six you might need one win out of three, which heaps the pressure back on again, so let’s get as many points as we can.

“We are capable of getting points out of these games this week, as we have proved in the last six or seven games.

“I hope the players believe, as I believe, that they are capable of getting points out of them.

“Taking five wins out of six – and six wins out of nine – and we are still not safe, so it shows just how difficult a task it was to get us out of the bottom three.”
