Guardiola: City Cannot Go Unbeaten

Featured Image

Pep Guardiola insists that Manchester City’s stunning start to the Premier League cannot be sustained.

Manchester City set a new record of 15 consecutive victories in the Premier League, opening a 11 points lead at the summit.

The Etihad Stadium outfit will face Tottenham on Saturday, and will hope to continue their umbeaten run.

But the City boss is adamant they will not be able to match Arsenal’s famous ‘Invincibles’ of 2003-04.

“That is not going to happen,” Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference.

“That belongs to Arsene Wenger and his amazing Arsenal in 2004. We are going to lose games.

“Today is completely different with the intensity and a lot of games. Now, [our run] is an exception. It is not normal what we have done.

“We are so happy and we are going to fight to maintain it as long as possible. But people, teams lose games and that is going to happen.”

Klopp: We Are All Fighting For Second

Featured Image

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has given up entirely on the title, as he believes they are all fighting for second place.

Manchester City have stormed to the top of the league, winning 16 out of their 17 games and drawing just one, scoring 52 goals so far.

Klopp believes they cannot chase the Etihad club, who are 11 points clear at the top of the table.

“This season nobody is really fighting any more for the title. I don’t think United are,” the German told UK newspapers ahead of his team’s trip to Bournemouth on Sunday.

“We will all try to come as close as possible but if City doesn’t have any drop then they will probably win it so does that mean all the others have to stop?

“To be the best of the rest could be a fantastic target. So it is to try to have the best position in the table which for us for the last – I don’t know how many years – is probably third or second.”

Conte: Luiz Has Serious Knee Injury

Featured Image

Antonio Conte has revealed that the knee injury keeping Chelsea defender, David Luiz sidelined is a serious one, but hopes for a speedy recovery.

The Brazil international centre back has been in and out of the squad this season, due to a fluctuating form.

However, knee injury has ensured Luiz stays on the sidelines and Conte is hoping to have him back soon.

“David has an inflammation in the knee and we are trying to solve this situation with the doctor,” Conte told reporters at a news conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Southampton.

“It’s important to assess the situation day by day and to try to solve this problem. I don’t know when he’s able to come back, but for sure we are trying to sort his situation.

“The player is working apart [from the rest of the team] and the last days he was outside and in the pool.

“Today he was swimming and out on the pitch to run a bit, but very slowly. This is a serious problem, but we hope to solve it as soon as possible.

“I think every player is frustrated when they don’t play, especially when injured. For sure, there’s a lot of frustration for the injury and because every player wants to try to put difficulty into the coach’s choices.

“I understand, I was a player and when I was injured I was very sad because you want to feel well and be ready for the competition and training. But injuries are part of the job.”

Leicester boss Claude Puel has offered no guarantees record signing Islam Slimani will stay with the Foxes.

The striker has played just 10 minutes since Puel was appointed manager in October. He has failed to impress since a £30m move from Sporting Lisbon in August 2016, netting 12 times in 41 games.

“Time will tell to speak about the January transfer window but he is in the squad,” Puel told a press conference ahead of Saturday’s visit of Crystal Palace.

“He was on the bench for the first game. He provides the same option as Ulloa because Ulloa works very well in the training session, harder.

“I think now Islam Slimani is working very well also. It is always difficult for me to make assurances with competition between the players.”

Diego Maradona Wants Kylian Mbappe To Replace Gareth Bale At Real Madrid

Featured Image

Diego Maradona has revealed that he told Real Madrid to offload Gareth Bale and replace him with Kylian Mbappe.

Maradona, who starred for Argentina when they won the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, believes Real should cut their losses with Bale.

The Wales star cost Madrid a then world-record fee of £80m in 2013 but has missed the majority of this season through injury, while Mbappe is part of Paris St Germain’s prolific strike force that includes Neymar and Edinson Cavani.

Maradona made his feelings clear in an interview with Spanish newspaper AS when he said: “Bale? Let them sell Bale or give him away, although (Real president) Florentino (Perez) is less likely to give him away… but I think they had to sign Mbappe.”

Bale has a chance to win over the Argentina legend when his Real Madrid side take on Gremio in the FIFA Club World Cup final in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Renato Sanches Not Returning To Bayern Munich In January

Featured Image

Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes is surprised by reports that Renato Sanches could be returning from his loan spell at Swansea in January.

Renato Sanches has struggled since his move to the Premier League on deadline day, so far failing to score in 10 appearances and being unable to secure a regular role in Paul Clement’s side.

He has not played since coming off the bench for five minutes against Stoke City on December 2, not even making their bench for matches against West Brom and Manchester City.

There had been reports that Swansea and Bayern were in talks to terminate their loan agreement but Heynckes played that down and stated he is still full of belief in the 20-year-old’s ability.

‘I assume that Hasan Salihamidzic [Sporting Director] talked to him on the phone,’ he is quoted as saying to Bild. ‘I’m surprised. I’m not worried about getting him back to Bayern.

‘You also have to see if that makes sense. In midfield, we have no need.’

Crystal Palace Manager Roy Hodgson Hoping To Keep Yohan Cabaye At The Club

Featured Image

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is keen to keep midfielder Yohan Cabaye at Selhurst Park.

Yohan Cabaye is in the final months of his contract, having arrived in south London from Paris Saint-Germain for £10m in July 2015.

Palace risk losing him on a free transfer over the summer but Hodgson feels he has improved after a period of inconsistency, leaving the former England boss keen to utilise his talents as they bid to avoid relegation.

“If you say to me would I like Yohan Cabaye to keep working here with me, then of course the answer is ‘yes’,” he said.

“I’m a big admirer of his and he’s doing a fantastic job.

“But his situation with the club will be discussed with [director of football] Dougie [Freedman] and the chairman [Steve Parish] and then they’ll bring me in on the discussion at the appropriate time.

“There’s no doubt he’s one of the players we have who are bonafide, quality, Premier League players who can keep us in the league, and that group needs assisting by being boosted, not pruning down in any way.

“I’d be surprised if the people who watched us play weren’t impressed by his performances in the middle with Luka Milivojevic; they’ve been very, very good together.

“I’m pretty certain he won’t go anywhere this season and at the moment that’s the only thing in the forefront of my mind: the 2017/18 season, keeping us in the league.

I can’t allow my energy or my enthusiasm for the job to be dented in any way by thoughts of 2018/19.”

Cabaye has only missed three league games for Crystal Palace this season and has established a formidable partnership with Milivojevic at the heart of their midfield.

The Eagles are unbeaten in six games and only find themselves still in the relegation zone on goal difference.

Antoine Griezmann Allowed To Leave Atletico Madrid – Diego Simeone

Featured Image

Diego Simeone has confirmed that Antoine Griezmann will be allowed to leave Atletico Madrid.

The 26-year-old is reported to be a target for a number of Europe’s largest clubs, with Manchester United linked with a move for the France international last summer.

Antoine Griezmann is expected to remain at Atletico for the remainder of the season, but it appears he has been given the all clear by Simeone to leave the club in the future.

‘Of course Griezmann will be able to leave at some point, the same way (Diego) Costa and Arda Turan were allowed to leave,’ he told L’Equipe.

‘I love my players a lot and I love to see them grow. I am not ungrateful.

‘If a player comes to me and says, ‘Coach, I have a once in a lifetime chance to play for a certain team, I want to leave’. If he did all he could for me as Griezmann does, I’ll say it’s no problem. I know that he needs to grow.

‘Of course Griezmann will be able to leave at some point, the same way Costa and Arda Turan were allowed to leave.’

Griezmann wrote in his autobiography that he would be open to a move to United.

‘It all depends on various factors. Manchester United is a possibility. I have nothing against England – except for the weather’.

Super-agent Mino Raiola wants Gianluigi Donnarumma to sign for Paris Saint-Germain or Juventus. Juventus would be prepared to offer €50m for the 18-year-old shot-stopper as well as sending Wojciech Szczesny to the San Siro. (Calciomercato)

Johannes Geis, currently on loan at Sevilla, has suggested he might not return to Schalke in the summer: “If Sevilla is satisfied and wants me, why not? Klitschko: Joshua Can Unify Heavyweight

Featured Image

Former heavyweight champion of the world, Wladimir Klitschko believes Anthony Joshua can unify the heavyweight division.

The Nigerian born British boxer is undefeated in his professional fights and holds the IBF and WBA ‘super’ titles.

Joshua is poised to face WBC holder Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker, who holds the WBO belt in coming months and Klitschko believes he can hold all belts.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: “I have passed the torch to the younger lion.

“I wish, from the bottom of my heart, he continues to carry this torch for a long time and is very successful just like I was.

“Joshua is capable of unifying the division, absolutely.”

Klitschko said: “I’d say the more Joshua shines, the better I shine. If I lost, I want to make sure I lost to the better man.

“It was an incredible fight. We both had fun, the fans had fun. It was win-win for all of us.

“It doesn’t feel like a loss. I won a lot of respect that I never had, even when I won my world titles.

“My ego wanted to win. But to experience what I did, I wouldn’t change the end result. It opened doors and made my sporting life more colourful.”

Winks: Spurs Want To Outplay City

Featured Image

Tottenham midfielder, Harry Winks has revealed that they intend to take the game to Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola and his men are currently on a record 15 consecutive wins and lead the EPL with 11 points, after 17 games in the league.

Tottenham just got back into the top four after a win over Brighton Hove and Albion and are 18 points behind the leaders, however, Winks has confidence in his squad’s ability.

“We’re confident in our ability. We think we can go there and match them,” he is quoted as saying by ESPN.

“Obviously it’s down to the manager the way we play, but we’ll go into the game the way we go into every game: positive and on the front foot. We’ll try to out-possess them and outplay them.

“We know what we’re like as a team, we know how good we can be, how good we are. It’s a good place to set a standard and make a marker and a point.

“There’s no point in going into a game and not thinking you’re going to win. We’re a positive team, we like to think we’re one of the top teams in the division. We have to go there and prove that. We’re confident at the moment, obviously on the back of two wins and we’ll go there with full confidence and try to win.

“It’d be nice to go there and get the win, first and foremost to get the three points. But to end their run would be nice as well, it’ll be a good incentive to try to get that as well.

“I know it’s going to be tough, I know they’re a good side and you have to respect them. There’s going to be times in the game when you have to adapt and play a bit differently and that’s down to the way the manage
r wants us to play.

“They’re a good side, they’re showing how good they are but so are we. We went there last year, performed well and got a good [2-2] draw. We’re going to go into the game confident on the back of two Premier League wins. Who knows?”

Scott McTominay Now A First Team Player For Manchester United – Jose Mourinho

Featured Image

Scott McTominay is now a fully-fledged first-team player at Manchester United, according to his manager Jose Mourinho

Scott McTominay, 21, who came through the ranks at Old Trafford, made his first Premier League start of the season in the 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Wednesday.

Mourinho heaped praise on McTominay following his performance against the Cherries and insisted that the academy product is no longer an up-and-coming player.

“I didn’t realise that he was young Scott,” the Portuguese told the Manchester Evening News. “For me he is not young Scott anymore – he is just Scott, a player from the first team squad.

“Scott played this season 90 minutes in three different competitions, played against Swansea in the cup, tonight and Benfica and for the three times he played 90 minutes, not 87, 89 or 85. Why? Because in every match he was playing really, really well.”

Everton’s Young Trio Of Jonjoe Kenny, Dominic Calvert-Lewin And Mason Holgate Sign New Contracts

Featured Image

Everton have announced that new long-term deals have been signed by Jonjoe Kenny, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Mason Holgate.

Jonjoe Kenny and Holgate have committed to the Toffees until the summer of 2022, while forward Calvert-Lewin is now under contract until June 2023.

Manager Sam Allardyce is delighted to have tied down all three academy products, describing them as the future of Everton and backing each player to continue developing in the years to come.

“We’re delighted that these young men have committed long-term to the club and there’s no doubt in my mind that they will play big roles at Everton for a long time to come,” he told the club’s official website. “The depth of young talent in our squad is very encouraging, a clear sign that we do things right as a club in our development of young players and Mason, Jonjoe and Dominic epitomise what we are trying to accomplish with young players here at Everton.

“I’ve made the point before that Jonjoe’s decision-making for such a young man is very impressive and part of the reason he makes the game look simple. He is also an excellent defender, very grounded as an individual and he has an innate desire to succeed. He’s hungry and his choice of ball possession is first-class for a young man.

“He is an outstanding young man at full-back. For me, Mason Holgate’s potential is becoming a reality. He has set his standards in these past number of games he’s been involved in and it’s a matter of him maintaining those standards, continuing to work hard on his game and then he can become a really top player in the Premier League.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin, too, is a really exciting talent, he’s improving all the time and he has the athleticism and attributes to become a top player in his position. Working so closely with a player like Wayne Rooney can’t fail to help him in the role he plays in the team and, collectively, these three players will all have big parts to play here in the years ahead.”
