The Champions League Final Preview

Here’s A Final Preview Of the UEFA Champions League

After being denied of winning the Spanish League, both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid direct their attentions on the most prestigious of club football competitions in the world: The UEFA Champions League. The best betting sites to bet online have deemed Real Madrid as the favorites, but the last encounters have favored the Colchoneros. And with Cholo Simeone at the helm, Atletico Madrid has become a pretty attractive option for bettors worldwide.

atleticoThe average line for the final in Milan according to betting sites to bet online have Real Madrid as a +150 favorite, while Atletico Madrid is at +230. This comes to much surprise to many of the players that for a moment expected the colchoneros to open up as favorites. Recent history is in their favor as they have dominated the merengues in their past encounters statistically. Atletico has edged the majority of matches and their underdog story has captured the attention of a lot of fans across the globe. Their recent Champions League run has made a lot of sports insiders consider them to have a real good chance of pulling an upset, and some of them have gone as far as saying that they should have been the favorites for this game.

Real Madrid, reaches the final on an upswing. After having a brief stint of uneven play, they managed to turn things around and get a league victory out of Nou Camp in Barcelona. After that, they have been on great run that made them almost beat Barcelona for the Spanish title and, reach another Champions League final. While they are not the on the field as they are on paper the merengues have a talented squad that has kept a lot of the original squad that won their 10th Champions League trophy from Atletico Madrid two years ago. Zinedine Zidane’s side is favored by sportsbooks due to their history and experience in winning these types of matches.

Atletico Madrid is a team that doesn’t play offensive football. In fact, many detractors claim that they play a form of catenaccio, the unappealing rigorous defensive style of the Italians. Simeone has manufactured a style of play that on one side keeps a limited team with a strong defensive end, and with effective offense that normally plays on counterattacks. While it is not pretty, it is effective.

champions league

Real Madrid, by design and by tradition, is demanded to play offensive and high quality football. It is their style of play, and this high standard is at times their downfall as they constantly operate with zero room for error. But, every season, they manage to put together an amazing bunch of the world’s best football talent. They are constant favorites to win every single competition they play in.

Betting sites to bet online, might see their line change with the coming days. Real Madrid’s favoritism, might drop, but do not count them out. They have the offensive power to overcome the odds and earn them their 11th Champions League trophy.

Featured Image

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that it would distribute about 450,000 condoms during the games at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics, three times more than what it shared at the London Games four years ago.

Part of the reason was because 100,000 female condoms will be available for the first time, along with 350,000 condoms for men, with about 175,000 packets of lubricant also being supplied.

According to the IOC, the condoms would encourage 10,500 athletes and staff to practice safe sex.

The Committee also stated that the condoms will be distributed free from a clinic in the Athletes’ Village, or from vending machines in the area.

The village opens on July 24 with the Olympics opening on August 5.

It is however not clear if the increase of the condoms is related to Brazil’s outbreak of the Zika virus.

The virus is linked to microcephaly, a condition in which babies are born with undersized brains and skulls.

Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo said between 100,000 to 150,000 condoms had been supplied at Olympics since 2000 in Sydney.

Dybala: Juventus Won’t Let Me Play In Olympics

Featured Image

Dybala has stated that Juventus will not allow him play in the Olympics for Argentina.

Gerardo Martino left the Juventus forward out of the 23-man-squad set to feature in next month’s Copa America.

Despite the Juventus striker’s absence, Argentina still possess a squad boasting the attacking talents of Ezequiel Lavezzi, Angel Di Maria, Nicolas Gaitan, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain.

Dybala confessed he had been banking on a place in the Copa America squad, with Juve having told him they would not make him available for Rio due to a clash with the start of their Serie A campaign.

“I wanted to be in the United States, but you have to respect the coach’s decision.

“It is difficult to form an attack with all these phenomena.”

Dybala scored 23 goals in 46 appearances for Juve this season as the Turin giants became the first Italian side to complete a Serie A and Coppa Italia double for the second successive season.

Hiddink Takes Up Advisory Role At Chelsea, Wants To Bring Back Cech And Drogba

Featured Image

Guus Hiddink has stated he’ll be staying on in an advisory role at Chelsea, and he’s looking to bring Drogba and Cech back to the club.

The Dutch manager replaced Mourinho when he was sacked at the club, but will be replaced by Conte.

And Hiddink has revealed he’ll be staying on at the club in a different capacity.

“Technical advisor is a big word, but I will indeed hold an advisory role,” he told Fox Sports.

“I want to involve former Chelsea players. I spoke with Drogba last week, I have spoken with Cech. These guys are true Chelsea legends and have had such an impact at the club.

“Chelsea are an old club, but they have only been there at the highest level for about 15 years or so. These older guys want the best for Chelsea and can do a lot for the club once they have ended their active careers.

“One might go for a commercial career, another might pursue a job as assistant manager and another might be interested in a scouting position. You can make such good use of guys like them. I have the freedom to approach former players for things like that.”

Trying to get former players involved will not be Hiddink’s only job, however, as he also aims to help more youngsters make the step up from the club’s youth academy into the first team.

“You often see that young players struggle to make the step up to the first team. You have to slowly ease them into it, or they will do too much,” Hiddink added.

“I did that with Bertrand Traore and Ruben Loftus-Cheek [this season], but more players should be making the step up.”

Van Basten Calls For Offside Rule To Be Abolished

Featured Image

One time Netherlands striker, Marco Van Basten wants some changes to be implemented in the sport, due to some teams defensive approach.

Van Basten wants the offside rule to be abolished, while also arguing in favour of the introduction of video referees and stronger action against timewasting to try to keep football interesting.

“There is so much timewasting in football. We need new rules to do something against it. Give players a red card if they are wasting time following a substitution. The pace of the game should remain high,” Van Basten told Algemeen Dagblad.

“Football should be tense, fair and attractive. I think it’s a major challenge to bear that in mind when it comes to deciding what rules we need.

“Just look at how football has developed. Modern football is like handball. You see 11 players defending on the edge of their own area.

“We might as well get rid of the offside rule. The rule is quite complicated and always leads to a lot of discussion. The players will get used to it quite quickly.

“Football has changed just like life in general has changed. Football was just a bit of fun 50 years ago, but it is big business now. A lot of money is involved.

“I also hope the video referee will be introduced before the 2018 World Cup. The video ref should focus on the key things, situations ahead of goals, penalties and red cards. There will always be small mistakes, but there is a lot of room for improvement.”

Cahill Brands Chelsea’s Season ‘Unacceptable’

Featured Image

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has stated that Chelsea’s title defence in the 2015/16 season was unacceptable.

A poor run of form saw Mourinho sacked and replaced by interim manager, Hiddink, six months after winning the EPL.

Hiddink helped Chelsea to 10th on the table, as they crashed out of the UCL round of 16 and the 6th round of the FA.

Cahill acknowledged Chelsea’s below-par season was unacceptable but insists the side are determined to turn things around under the incoming Antonio Conte.

“The season was not good at all, it was obviously disappointing and it didn’t go to plan for us,” Cahill told the official Chelsea website. “But all we can do now is go again next season.

“We know it is unacceptable for a club like Chelsea to have a season like we have had this year. We take this bad taste in the mouth into next year because we don’t want to have it again.

“We don’t want to have a period of playing football matches for nothing. It is the worst feeling ever so we need to remember this time. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and we need to be stronger for this.”

Brendan Rodgers Is Celtic’s New Manager

Featured Image

Former Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers has been given the position of manager at Celtic.

The 43-year-old was sacked in October and has now signed a 12-month contract with the Scotland club.

Rodgers said: “I am absolutely delighted to be named Celtic manager. This is genuinely a huge honour for me. I have followed Celtic all my life and to be given this fantastic opportunity and to be part of such a truly great football club is a dream come true.

“I will give my new role everything I have and do all I can to bring our supporters exciting, entertaining and winning football.

“The club has been in magnificent shape in recent years and has collected silverware regularly during this time. My objective now, of course, is to continue this work, to keep us at the top and again make our mark in Europe.

“I know what a magnificent support Celtic enjoys and I can promise our fans one thing – that I will be doing everything I can to give you a team that you can be proud of and a team that delivers.

“I can’t wait to be in Paradise with our team and our fans as we all get to work.”

It was announced back in April that Deila would leave his role at the end of the season, despite guiding the club to a fifth successive Scottish Premiership crown.

Celtic chairman Ian Bankier added: “We are delighted to welcome Brendan to Celtic as the club’s new manager.

“As expected, there was huge interest in the position of Celtic manager but we believe we have chosen the outstanding candidate to take the club forward.

“Brendan is a man with a tremendous pedigree in football management, he is someone who knows all about Celtic and someone who has a real passion for Celtic. He is also a manager who we believe has the talent, the drive and the determination to bring continued success to the club.

“We are sure Brendan will receive a fantastic welcome from our supporters and we now look forward with real excitement towards next season as we tackle the many challenges ahead domestically and in Europe.”

The Glasgow club’s chief executive Peter Lawwell continued: “Brendan is a highly-sought after manager and we are pleased that we have been able to bring such a high calibre individual to Celtic.

“He has a huge and genuine affection for the Club. I know Brendan feels privileged to be named Celtic manager and I know he will give us everything he has to be successful at Celtic. Above all, he will bring huge experience, knowledge and ability to the role.

“We wanted to bring one of the biggest and best names to the Club to match our own aspirations and those of our supporters – we believe, in appointing Brendan, that we have done this.

“We have appointed a special manager and we are sure he can bring some special times to Celtic.”

After posts with Watford, Reading and Swansea City, Rodgers was appointed as manager at Liverpool in June 2012, and he almost delivered the club’s first league title since 1990 in 2013-14, only to just fall short of Manchester City.

However, Rodgers paid the price for Liverpool’s indifferent form at the start of 2015-16, and was replaced by Jurgen Klopp.

Pogba Yearns To Be The Complete Player

Featured Image

Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba is looking to be a complete player, that invokes both Messi and Ronaldo.

The Frenchman has been exceptional for Juventus and has become a coveted player, since joining in 2012, winning four league titles in a row.

And after scoring eight goals this season and assisting a further 12, the midfielder is eager to be better.

“I want to become the complete player,” Pogba told ESPN. “I want to do everything: defend, attack, score, give assists, tackle, win back the ball. Be a leader on the field.

“I want to become a new midfielder. From defensive midfielder to attacking midfielder to attacker. I want to take the qualities from everyone.

“Cristiano, Ronaldinho, Messi, everyone. Andres Iniesta. I’m serious. All players rolled into one. I’d like to get to the level where I have everything: Patrick Vieira, Didier Deschamps, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry, Ronaldo. It wouldn’t be bad, that.

“I’ve already scored goals, given decisive passes, won back balls. It’s really just about raising the level.”

Despite racking up a host of honours as Juve have dominated Italian football, a humble Pogba says he is a way off reaching his best.

“I don’t think I am a great; I think I’ve done nothing. I’ve done nothing in soccer,” the 23-year-old added.

“I’ve won leagues, but I haven’t won the Champions League, the World Cup, the Euros. Winning Euro 2016 in France, that wouldn’t be bad.

“I want to work, to be a great, to win everything.”

Suarez Never Thought He Would Replace Messi As

Featured Image

Luis Suarez has stated he didn’t believe he’ll have replaced Messi at the head of Barcelona’s attack.

Suarez has enjoyed a beautiful season with the Catalan club since joining from Liverpool.

The former Liverpool man scored 40 goals in 35 matches to win the pichichi award. Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi has moved back out to a role on the left side of attack to get the best out of Suarez, much to the Uruguayan’s shock.

“I never imagined playing in this position because Leo was playing as the No.9, and I thought, ‘where are they going to play me?’,” he told BeIN Sport.

“We get along very well, both on and off the park.

“Sometimes it is hard to understand, because a striker is always angry when they’re not the main star, but here it does not happen like that.

“There is nothing false or acted. It is a true friendship, where there is zero jealousy and where we get along well.

“We advise each other and we are glad when things go well for each other.

“For me, I tell my children I played with the best player in history and that is a privilege.”

Guardiola Has Words Of Praise For Tuchel, Ahead Of DFB Pokal Final

Bayern Munich manager, Pep Guardiola is full of praise for opposition coach, Thomas Tuchel, ahead of the DFB Pokal final.

Tuchel has been magnificent in his debut season with the bumblebees, leading them to the Pokal final.

And Guardiola has lauded Tuchel as an “excellent coach” in the build up to the mouth-watering showdown between Germany’s two strongest clubs.

“Thomas lives football,” Guardiola told the DFB’s official website “He has this passion, this desire to want to know everything, to get better.

“He’s 24 hours a day thinking about his team, the opponents, football generally. I like that about him.

“Yes and no [it surprised me how well he did this season]. No, because I knew what an excellent coach Thomas was. Yes, because he has incredible speed in how he affects the game of Borussia Dortmund. BVB has played a fantastic season.

“Thomas and I understand each other. We have the same passion for the game.

“Any team that has reached the final, has earned it. A final between Bayern and Dortmund has an emotional reach all over Germany. The duel is very, very intense and observed worldwide.”

Guardiola, who guided Bayern to Pokal glory at the expense of Dortmund in 2014, says the tournament has won a special place in his affections.

“In Spain we have a different system, a round of the [Copa del Rey] with home and away legs,” he added.

“That is actually better for the strong teams and a second division or an amateur team have little chance. I like the way the Pokal is played in Germany, there is more excitement and also often surprises.

“It was incredible [in 2014]. Hermann Gerland, my assistant coach, had raved to me all year of this great atmosphere at the final in Berlin.

“When we were there, I realised what he meant. It is a great experience for me, for both teams and the football fans in Germany.

“It could have been a slightly easier farewell for us but I look forward to this game; we all look forward. It will be a fantastic final between two great clubs.”

Van Gaal: FA Cup Triumph Is Important For United

Featured Image

Louis van Gaal understands it is important for Manchester United to win the FA cup.

United have not won a trophy since Alex Ferguson left the club in 2012/13, except a community shield.

And a season that has seen United miss out on UCL, with Van Gaal’s job under pressure.

But the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss says beating Crystal Palace in Saturday’s final at Wembley means much more to the players and fans than it does to his chances of keeping his job.

“I think the interest of the club is much more important, and the interest of the fans,” he said on Thursday. “You put your own aims, of course, and that’s one of the aims I’ve always had.

“I think the fans are more concerned about the title than I am because a title for the fans is fantastic and we want to give it. I said that in my speech on the pitch. They were always there, unconditional. They’ve never let us down. They deserve it more than anyone else.

“A club like United needs silverware. We need it and the players need it also. That’s why it’s so convenient when we win.

“It’s always exciting when you are so close but close is not enough – you have to win it.

“I’ve read that the last FA Cup was 2004 so it’s a long time ago. So for Manchester United, it’s a big title, especially now.

“For me, that’s not the most interesting point. The most interesting point is that we’re able to win something and now we can. But still, you have nothing when you don’t win.

“It’s always important to win silverware. Qualification is not a title – a title is the FA Cup, the championship. For players, it’s very important, because they can hold the cup, and that’s an exciting moment. Especially in England, because the FA Cup is a big title. It’s the most prestigious temple of England.”

Van Gaal believes that away victories against Shrewsbury Town, Derby County and West Ham prior to the 2-1 semi-final win against Everton underline that his side would be worthy winners of the FA Cup.

“We have played four of the six matches away, so we deserve to win, I think, because when you win away at West Ham United, for instance, it’s fantastic,” he said. “Although Crystal Palace beat Tottenham, so it’s deserved for them to be in the final.”
